Android restarts when installing certain programs - HTC Inspire 4G

When I try to install Cestos 2 from Market or from backup through Titanium, the phone restarts before it can install. It happens with a couple other games too. What can be the problem? I am using stock optimized ROM v2

I have stock everything never rooted, and i have the same problem. Whenever i try to install or upgrade certain apps mainly the apps that were preinstalled. My phone restarts.

You might want to try un checking fastboot. Titanium backup has caused problems for me. I don't use it anymore. Try re downloading from the market.

Help. Since flashing Serendipity, Titanium backup will not restore to other roms.

I've been using titanium backup for awhile without any problems. Recently I flashed Serendipity. Since then, I have tried flashing perception 9.5 and cog3. When batch install "all missing apps with data" with either of those roms, Only half the apps completely install, some have errors on launch and some don't have any of their data copied over. I tried redoing it with "migrate app data" check too. It still didn't work. I can restore back in a fresh serendipity install without any problems. I dont know what's going on. I have also tried going back to serendipity, restoring apps and then backing up with mybackup root. When I reinstall cog3, I get the exact same problem trying to restore with mybackup root.
Has anyone else come across this? Is there a fix
Have you tried clearing the cache of TiBU? Also do you have allow install of non market apps checked?
I'll have to try that next time. Isn't third party apps enabled by default on dg's roms. And wouldn't titanium backup not restore any of the apps if that was the problem?
I'm back on serendipity now because I need a working phone. I'll give it another shot tomorrow though.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Make sure usb debugging is enabled?
Make sure busy box installed?
Make sure no market apps are enabled?
I tried again and nothing I tried worked. I am not able restore my apps in cog 2b8 either. I have restored to that rom successfully many times in the past.
I am able to restore my apps in perception 10.1 however. It seems that restoring apps in 2.2.1 roms are not a problem, but 2.2 roms it won't work at all. This is a real problem for me since the modem on my phone only works properly on captivate roms.

HELP

So, I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) last weekend. I had it rooted and everything was fine. Then I got rid of some of the bloatware. I wrote a couple of programs for myself to use, so I needed to enable side-loading. I did that-successfully.
First sign of a problem was when I went to the marketplace and it would not download any single app that I tried. So, I went to restore the phone using the backup I made, but some reason it wasn't there.
Then I decided to revert to factory settings. I did a hard reset, but the problem was still not resolved. Then I found a thread on here about Odin 3. I've been trying to use that all night but the best I've gotten is to the File Analysis step. I've tried at least 10 different times.
I'm trying to get everything back up and running and preferably rooted again so that I can use my Titanium backup to restore all my apps and settings.
I'm at my wits end, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Factory reset would not solve any problems that may have been caused by deleting core apps. Is your phone rooted and nand unlocked (baseband) or just rooted? Are you running a custom rom? If so you need to reflash the rom after clearing cache and dalvik cache. If you still have the original rom then you can reflash an official samsung firmware using odin, look for your handsets firmware on www.samfirmwares.com
Other than that you could try finding out which apps are needed and using root explorer you may be able to fix the version you have. If the market is your only issue then try clearing data and cache settings/manage apps/market and download manager (two different apps)
How did you root your phone? Did you install a custom ROM yet? What bloatware did you remove, and how did you go about it?
Ok. In the wee hours this morning I finally got Odin to work and now everything works as it should. I switched computers and the program worked right away. Intersting tidbit though, I accidentally left the sim card in during the reflash and I had no ill effects. I'm actually wondering if that helped me.
Thanks tina333.
nenol, I used the one touch root. I have not installed a custom rom and I don't remember exactly which of the programs I uninstalled. I used Titanium backup to both backup my apps and to delete the bloatware.
There are very few system apps that are not needed by the system, titanium only backs up data by default. Be careful what you delete and always research first

Problem With Messagiing After Root... Please Advise

Hey guys!
Yesterday I rooted my Charge Using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
Used the CWR and Peanut Butter Jelly Time Kernal (non over clocking one)
I then used Titanium Back Up Pro to freeze the following apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082588 - First Post
I also have setcpu installed, root explore, battery calibration and system monitor.
Today ... the phone restarted out of no where and now the messaging app wont launch. It just gives me the following error:
"process com.android.mms has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas of what I should do?
Cheers!
Ok now Gmail stopped as well
Ok guys ...
Tried some stuff...
Removed all programs I installed, also un froze all the bloatware. Restarted and still no luck.
I then re flashed the kernal and no luck and then flashed the over clock one and still no luck. At this point Im ready to do a full restore back to non-rooted
Anyone have any input before I do this?
USING Whatever rom you used to ROOT.
Reboot into recovery after unfreezing all apps. There's a batch for that.
Fix Permissions.
Clear Cache.
Reflash the rom you used to ROOT with.
Will replace the corrupted file assuming there is one since you did not say specifically what you froze.
Just a note: Most of that stuff that you guys are freezing, you don't have to. It does not run unless you call on it to run. Some of the stuff (I.E. My Files which is your file explorer) you don't want to freeze.
Thanks for the reply.
I pretty much did that last night but when I tried to do the Fix Permissions it asked me what size .... it was really weird.
I ended up doing a factory reset / data wipe as well as the rest and its working great now, only dumb thing on my part was I forgot to do a back up with Ti-Pro first so I had to reinstall everything (app wise).

[Q] Booting into recovery after uninstalling Qik

Hi. This is a minor issue that may or may not warrant a new thread, but I wasn't able to find a similar post anywhere.
I'm rooted and S-off'ed with Revolutionary method. I am in the process of cleaning up all the bloatware on my phone. I am using TiBu, backing up every app before uninstalling, then performing NAND backup after verifying stability. At first after uninstalling several apps deemed 'safe', I encountered a problem where my phone would show two mt4gs splash screens then boot into clockworkmod recovery. I since narrowed it down to the Qik video chat app.
Has anyone else had a problem with uninstalling this specific app? Is it tied into the ROM that much where removing it would prevent me from booting up normally?
I don't recall removing qik ever cause any issue for me. If you are worried that removing certain apps might cause trouble, you can first try freeze them using apps like AntTek app manager before you remove them completely.
Or you can try the custom MT4GS ROMs on the developer forum. Those ROMs already removed most of the bloatware.
Would the fact that I reinstalled the stock rom from the repack on this forum?
*Would that cause a problem in booting?
Removing qik would not cause that issue. Lmfao.

Good method on the backups after each change, you now have an interactive log of your progress ~ everyone should experiment so carefully.
qik has never given me an issue that I can recall. I usually remove it with the other T-Mobile apps I don't want, like ecid.apk ( name ID ) for instance.
I freshly reboot the phone, uninstall all the T-Mo apps and all known supporting files/directories, reboot to recovery and clear dalvik cache and phone cache, then reboot the phone and let it rebuild cache.
After it boots and runs for about 5 mins, I reboot it again and let it run for about 2 minutes before doing anything else with it.
I don't think qik itself has anything to do with your issue at hand, it sounds more like it could be a bad install - maybe a corrupt download of the ROM. I don't think anyone else has reported this specific problem with the stock ROM for download here, but have you read through the threads for it?
I haven't used that ROM yet, so I can't speak for it from personal experience.
It could also be a bad Clockworkmod install. Again, maybe a corrupted download or...?
What version of CWM are you using? If you aren't using CWM 4.0.0.9, then i'd recommend upgrading to that and seeing if it solves your issue.
If you're up to it, though, re-download the ROM your using and install it fresh, before you upgrade CWM. If it was a bad download or install the first time, then that will fix your issue.
I still recommend upgrading to CWM 4.0.0.9 anyway if you haven't, even if a fresh ROM install solves your problem.
Thanks for the advice, Blue. I since then have just frozen the app and finished de-bloating the device. Right now I'm trying Undead's Senseless Rom, but if I go back to stock, I'll keep this in mind.

[Q] Superwipe and titanium backup and new ROM question

I'm about to install Android Revolution HD™ 3.x XE but my question is I'd like to back up my phone and apps with titanium backup and restore my phone after installing the ROM
Now I know I need to use superwipe but buy restoring everything after am I defeating the purpose of using superwipe?
I dont want to be restoring old files I may not need or could cause problems
Thanks In advance
Although I don't have a firm answer to your question, I would advise you against doing a full restore (system data and everything). I've had numerous problems such as my lock screen PIN code changing after a reboot (preventing me from logging into the phone).
Fred
I backed up using Titanium then used superwipe, after I had flashed the rom and restarted the phone all my apps automatically reinstalled. I am a noob so I am not sure how or why this would have happened. I would add that everything went very smoothly for me and the phone is running very well, absolutely no problems and I am very new to this rooting game. This website and the developers that are on it are both fantastic, a big well done to all concerned.
I just flashed arhd and restored "all apps with data" with titanium backup. everything seems to be running smoothly
Thanks for the replys, I'll probably Flash the new ROM at the weekend

Mine did the same thing. They reinstalled (most of them anyway) because google kept a record of what I had loaded from the market. The only thing is because they were reinstalled automatically the market doesn't give me the option of removing them. Is yours the same?
On a side note a while ago when I first used LeeDroids rom I used titanium backup to reinstall my apps and data. When picked my phone up the next morning (it was plugged in all night) it was red hot where something was loading the cpu up. I reinstalled the whole thing a couple more times before I realised it was either an app or the process or reinstalling them on a different rom with Titanium that was causing the load. Now I use mybackup pro and just keep my data and install the apps separately.

Just dont restore your system data as it may cause problem, only back up and restore user Apps...
Contact and SMS can be easily backed up via People and Message options.
