I ordered the digitizer from deal extreme that was around 30 bucks, it took about 15 days from the day of purchase to when it showed up at my doorstep in oklahoma. Coming from Hong Kong thats about average I think.
The digitizer itself is indistinguishable from the original HTC one, the replacement was not easy but it only took me about an hour and a half. If this was my first phone repair ever it'd probably have taken me 4 hours or so. If you have all the proper tools and have dissasembled a phone before it should be fairly easy and quick. The worst part is that the digitizer is glued to the frame on the nexus with firm pressure I popped the stock one out and replaced it with the new one using loctite brand superglue to affix the new one.
All in all I highly recommend this digitizer and if you have the tools and the time do it yourself I couldn't bring myself to pay someone over 100 bucks to fix my phone.
Cheers for the info, I bought one from eBay which looked identical in the picture. However when I received it, it lacked the bottom buttons and top curve meaning I had gaps at both the top and bottom. Long story short I need to purchase another in the coming weeks and was looking at this one, thanks again
Forgive my extreme noobness here, but digitizer - is it the thingy that's responsible for registering touches on the screen?

Yes it is. Its top part of the screen that you touch and that part that gets scratched/ broken when people drop it.
Cool!
any change in responsiveness over stock?

It seems to be more responsive than the stock one but I bet when the other one got cracked it lost some response so I don't have anything good to compare it to now.

Just wanted to let you guys know
Tonight I replaced the S-LCD for my N1 with an ebay one, and the speaker with an ebay one too.
It was stressful because there was always the chance you could break it. Thankfully it was a success* and I did spend a couple hours applying new BSE and Clarivue protectors too.
Phone feels like new (its only 2 months old btw...) hehe
N1 is a great developer phone truly. In all aspects of the word. I see it now!
*did scrape my bottom "U-cover" ..the one which has the HTC logo. A little teflon peeled at the edge with the plastic pry tools (they're really not too strong though and wore quickly i might add. Recommend using a guitar pick like i saw one guy use on the online videos).
Anyways, short of buying a replacement of the $11 part, I'm really please with this phone
Is it possible to swap the AMOLED screen with an SLCD screen or are there actual hardware differences between the two models preventing that swap?

Good question. I was going to say "No, because I read it somewhere on the forums that you can't" , but then I found this thread:
http://androidforums.com/nexus-one/...ny-way-backup-wipe-before-sending-repair.html
Turns out the guy sent his AMOLED N1 to HTC to get repaired, and that they changed it with an S-LCD without changing his scratched digitizer.
I'm guessing that they are cost effective and mindful with warranties, so I doubt that they would have changed the whole Mobo for S-LCD functionality.
Again, this is just heresay and postulation.
"Got jacked.. 180 euro and all they did was replace my cracked Amoled with an SLCD... the blacks and gradients on the SLCD are awful. I was told the cover glass came together with the amoled. Mine is a little scratched so that would have been worth the extra $$. I had gone online to look around and found out after I prepaid that the front glass and the amoled are completely separate. My prepaid receipt just stated repair screen... so I could not go after them for not swapping my front glass. Anyways rant over. Very happy to have the phone back but it is not the same without the amoled."

Hey bud,
I thought about this yesterday, but short of a definitive answer coming through from other devs, i thought I'd offer to mail you my S-LCD (pre-replacement one, with some minor humidity damage, only viewable at an above 39 degree angle)...to you for free* (just paypal me the shipping. It'll probably be like $5 by weight). Let me know.
I've had this phone for a few months now. I swear it has a curved screen at the top of the glass. Anyone else notice this?
nope I just see a flat surface, perhaps the curve on the back of the phone is throwing off your eyes to make it looked curved

yeah, you're right I want my phone to look like a phone with inferior hardware. so the SamSux Nexus S has 2.3 big deal so do we, it has no expandable memory, no 4G, if the sun is out that SAMOLED screen gets washed out like crazy (still think it's funny that my in-laws brag on their SGS while inside but ask to use my phone when ever we are outdoors)and it has less RAM. only thing any of the SGS have I wish we had is the Gorilla Glass screen.
So why are you in a myt4g section?? Is somebody having phone envy???
twiztid
Theres no reason for this. Lets keep this on topic guys.
You may have curved glass but we have an external sd card slot htc quality the ability to run sense roms not just stock. Gps works great on our phones.but dont worry you have a curved screen.

If I could find an oled screen with the same dimensions and resolution as our phone, is there some way to swap it for the lcd we use? Just wondering
Sent from my RubiX ICS Infused using Tapatalk
Probably not. There's no driver for it. Plus it would have to have the same connector as the LCD
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
If you could find one with the same exact size, resolution, and connector (and also uses each pin on the connector for the same purpose), then I would say yes. The probability of finding one that would work slim to none.

The MT4GS has a super LCD and the G2 only has a TFT LCD screen so we have a better LCD screen. Although the G2 has Gorilla glass and we don't.

Oh really? I thought both devices had a S-LCD...
Either way, I'm not planning on dropping my device so Gorilla Glass doesn't matter to me. I take very good care of my devices. Haven't dropped any of my previous 4 phones
Just the usual pocket wear. That's the only culprit. Otherwise I would be able to buy and sell my phones back in New condition lol.

You could still drop it and the screen wouldn't break since its plastic, it's just less scratch resistant than gorilla glass is all. But as far as the LCD screens go that was from GSM arena so it may be right or may not. Usually it's pretty accurate though.
I got a guy tomorrow whose willing to do a straight swap, his great condition One S for my great condition Galaxy Nexus.
Since purchasing the Nexus a week ago, I've been annoyed severely by the yellow tint of the screen, 720p or not. I saw a demo model of the One S at a local retailer and the white's were much better then that of the G-Nex.
So what do you guys think, even trade, should I pull the trigger?
(Apologies for posting this both here and in general, Mods, please delete this thread as it is a duplicate)
Thanks.
do it !! if you dont like the nexus and you do like the one s, its a no brainer lol
and if its a straight swop with no money involved, you got nothing to lose really
Exactly, I would do it as well! There's no reason not to do it. But check the phone in detail and pay attention to
- coating (if it's the black one)
- display color from different pov, there are displays out there providing a whole rainbow
- sim cover (sometime there not fixed well)
Overall the One S is the superior phone.
I would..I love this phone. Gotta sari probably the best phone I have ever owned

i went back to my galaxy nexus, mainly due to the lack of AOSP options on the one-s right now. once there are some more ROMS available i will probably start using the One more often.
I made the trade, and I'm so happy I did, the One S is gorgeous! Man the device is so thin, such a pleasure to hold in the hand, and feels solid. As odd as it sounds, it made the Nexus feel thick and heavy! I'm also very happy with Sense over ICS, it's really a treat to use and finally, yes, finally, I've bought a phone that I can actually keep for the next year! I've gone through so many devices in the past 6 months it's made my head spin. This is the "One", as fitting as that sounds. Now, time to Zagg up the entire phone!

Glad you made the right choice just about zagg... I am not sure invisible shield is a good choice on this phone. What colour is yours BTW? I have seen a picture in the accessory threads that it looks awful with zagg. Just a simple tpu is the best I believe.

Thank you, I'm glad too. I never was quite able to warm up to the Nexus. Going from the Amaze, to the SGS2, to the Nexus, to the One S has been anything but fun, but ultimately, I've made the right decision in terms of the S having everything I desire and then some.
It's the grey version with the blue camera lining. Not sure what color this is. But it's really amazing feeling quality, I mean, I've never held a phone that felt this good in my life. It's also in mint condition, which is why I wanted to Zagg it up to ensure it stays that way. So you're suggesting not to use Zagg. Do you know of any other full body protectors that would be compatible? It's definitely something I want to do as soon as possible.
Thanks again for your help.

I don't know other full body protector other than Zagg. Was wanting to get zagg for my grey one s as well cos had it on my wife's iPhone and it was not bad. But since there are two pieces on the back of one s it looks bad IMO with invisible shield being split into two.
I would suggest a case or the clear hard shell but the latter does not cover top and bottom so don't drop the phone.

I found a store (cart) in my local city Galleria called "Gadget Guard" that has a great full phone body protector. It doesn't covery the camera's, or speaker grills, and fits pretty good. The protector is also very durable and less "bumpy" over Zagg. It's smooth and feels natural. It also has a lifetime warranty which is great, so if it ever bubbles up or tears, they'll replace it for free.
The only problem is, I can't put a case over it because it might adjust and alter the protector. So that's a downfall, but otherwise, the entire phone is completely protected and it looks quite elegant imo.
Zagg has good and bad, I think. I had a screen protector on my sensation that I thought was better than zagg. Smooth and not so bumpy. And the plastic was like half as thin as a zagg shield. Personally, I have the skull candy case for my One S and am going sans screen protector. If i can think of the name of the screen protector that I prefer over Zagg, I'll let you know.
Edit:
I think this was the screen protector for my sensation:

I actually went to my local Mall and got a Gadget Guard installed on the entire phone. The lady who was installing it did a really good job, no bubbles AT ALL, no dust particles, and it goes all around the phone without compromising the camera, speaker grills, and is as tight fitted as can be without the ridges that Zagg sometimes causes. Plus it's great on detracting fingerprints.
Overall happy with it. Overall happy all together that I traded my G-Nexus for this amazing device (no disrespect to the HTC Amaze ). I'm one of the people who enjoy Sense and 4.0 on top of ICS has been a significant upgrade over 3.0 over GB. I'm still on the fence with rooting/installing a rom, but I do so with every phone I've owned so I'm sure the One S won't be any different. I'm just enjoying the stock experience so much as is.
Thanks again for your help.
To be honest, I think I am going to go to the mall today to put the screen protector on it as well. I may have found the store in Minnesota where I live. But ironically, I have been debating on going to the galaxy nexus from the One S, lol. The draw for me is the slightly larger screen and where the headphone jack and micro usb port are located. I like that they are on the bottom.

The guy who traded his One S for my Galaxy Nexus was very happy. He had every intention to trade and figured it was an equal deal, I agreed.
It's all a matter of taste, if you like the bigger screen, higher res, stock ICS with quicker updates, Nexus it is.
If you prefer a somewhat smaller, but just as vibrant screen, better processor, better camera, better speaker, go with the One S.
Both have their advantages and both are great, I just think I had a somewhat defective Galaxy Nexus unit with a really awful blue/yellow tint issue with the screen. My eyes were never able to get used to it no matter how much I tried. And I've had a Galaxy S2, which was perfectly fine and vibrant to the core. But the Nexus' white's were just totally and completely off. It's like someone put a blueish yellowish filter screen on top of the phone prior to shipping.
I flashed Franco.Kernel to change the Gamma and RGB levels, but nothing, and I mean nothing helped. I tried every single possible combination, and it was always off.

Please share your experience with "antiglare" screen protectors if you have or had used one and help me make my mind?
I have a cheap standard/glossy $1 screen protector for now, but since our phones have screens basically unreadable in the sun I think the kind of s.p. matters more than in other phones case
I had one of the first "mirror" screen protectors few years back, and it was horrible. It made the screen appear slightly distorted. Has this been improved by now?
I used the antiglare type of screen protectors on my evo and evo shift and i loved them and refuse to use any other kind, but they have their drawbacks. Number 1 is it washes the screen out just slightly so its not as crisp and colors are a bit more dull. 2 it feels werid and its hard to explain how they feel its like your finger slides really easy because its a really slick surface, but the surface also feels rough. Like i said i loved them and i might see about getting one for my doubleshot.
*edit*
Also just remembered that the anti glare screen protectors aren't as prone to fingerprints on the screen which is a major gain

Too bad I already ordered it on ebay If you still want it I can send it to you once it arrives here (should be next week - and sending from Canada to US outta be way faster than ordering it from China to USA) just PM me

Ditto to just about everything you said. I personally use the antiglare just for the sole purpose of not having to constantly wipe fingerprints with my shirttail.
It for sure a strange texture to the touch at 1st but actually is smoother and more precise than the glossy kind.
Yes, it does dim the display and make it a bit less vibrant, but I turn up the brightness a tad and it is fine.
All in all, I personally prefer the antiglare just for the fingerprint resistance. Enjoy yours when you get 'em!
Well, the antiglare screen protector arrived today already, and I am actually pissed and I love it too
I haven't test it yet in the sun because I just got home, but I love the texture of it, the matte look, and I can tell it really is anti-glare since it has dispersed even my camera's flash light when I took the photo below
I am pissed because before I order it I emailed the seller to make sure they do have MyTouch 4G Slide screen protectors, yet they have sent me some other one (I'm guessing it might be for MT4G and not the "Slide" version, but I'm not sure). It is too short and has different cam/sensors cut-outs at the top.
I foolishy trusted it is the correct one when it arrived and I had already ripped-off my "clear" one, so I had to install it for now. Which makes me double-pissed
To make things worse my order is labeled "SPAG-HTC-MYT4G-SL" - IMO it means "ScreenProtectorAntiGlare-HTC-MYTouch4G-SLide" - yet it is wrong one they've shipped, gee

Tried to get a good look at my wife's MT4G (non-slide) and it is hard to tell with some ugly decal thing she has on it, BUT I will say, if you lined it up at the bottom correctly, it looks way too short. It probably is for the MT4G. I am pretty sure, because when I use her protectors as an emergency, I have to trim them all the way around to fit my MT4GS. Apparently the slide is a bit smaller than the non.
How many came in your order? I have to order like 12 at a time because I always screw up about 4 of them before I get one on with no dust dots under it

I order only set of 2 (just to try - never had anti-glares before), but I think this seller has packs of 10 as well (same price tho).
If you want I can take more pics to show you, but yeah I have aligned it at the bottom perfectly, so that's exactly how it comes out on top.
Mind you: this *is* Slide what I have, and the screen protector is slightly narrower (about 1mm on each side) and too short by about 4mm (not to mention the "cut-outs" are wrong) so if this screen protector is for the "non-Slide" MT4G version then the "non-slide" has to be smaller than "slide", not the other way around.
Quality is very good because same as you I usually get the "bubble" somewhere and waste at least 1 protector before it is perfect, but this one seems thicker than the "glare one" and it attached itself almost perfectly right away, I only had to push it tighter at one corner. The cuts are well made, not sharp edges like it was in some other screen protectors but feels kinda polished. Actually I should say the quality is excellent, reminds me of the first Mitsubishi s.p. for laptop screen I bought years ago in Japan. If only it was the right size...
here is the website if you want wholesale quantity (I don't know does 1 dozen qualifies but you can try):

Yeah, I will look tomorrow. Its late. The house is dark and my eyes and brain may be confusing me. Maybe it is the other way around. Anyway, if you had one that fit right, you would like it, so that's a good thing

Sure thing!
in the future "anti-glare" are the only ones I'll ever buy... you and strapped365 were absolutely correct, thx!

MY CONCLUSION
(after a week+ with this screen protector)
With standard "shiny" s.p. (or without any s.p.) you can NOT see the screen outdoors in the sun.
Here is a picture of my MT4GS' screen with "antiglare" s.p. in very bright sun:
Until I have received this anti-glare s.p. I was skeptical (read the thread if you're curious) but once I have use it I love it so much that in the future I will never buy any other type of s.p.!
The screen is now not only readable in the direct sunlight, but exactly as guys above said so:
due to it's texture it is somewhat smudge-hiding
(edit: NO it is not really "smudgeless", if you look at certain angle and light you will see the finger smudges, but even then they're not as bad as on any other type of s.p.)
The only drawback are the colors: at first (when you apply this s.p.) it feels dull and washed a bit - not much, but you can see the difference. However, after very short time I get used to it and feels normal now.
Anyone looking for s.p. replacement should go with an antiglare type.
The benefits (ability to see screen under any conditions and it's "smudge-concealment") greatly outweight the cons (somewhat less-vibrant colors)

They weren't as of about 3 months ago. Suuuuuuuucked. Might as well be putting car window tinting on it.
Hmm... so does anyone have a suggestion for a nice anti-glare screen protector that will fit the phone nicely?
I just got the cheapest matte 6 pack or whatever on eBay from "Top Sellers" in N America.

Completely agree with the conclusion. Got 3 from Amazon for about $2.49 at the time.

Random brand called "Empire". Despite the one review. IT's a solid screen protector. Technically all Anti-Glare's have a "matte" kind of feel to it. The feeling and the look of the screen would probably be the most attractive part of Anti-Glares. However yes there is the sacrifice of losing slight visual quality.
Thanks, I'll give those Empire anti-glares a shot
Edit: nvm, shipping to Canada is STEEP on those guys. I'll keep a lookout for other anti-glares. Thanks for the suggestion, though

I bought a set of these 3 for 2.49 from the link above, and am VERY PLEASED. Quick shipping by seller, and they fit perfect with appropriate cutouts for sensors etc up near the top. Good deal!! :good:
