Rom Manager and it's permissions - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

Why does rom manager need access to your Goole account. What does it do with it.

From the app description:
Why does ROM Manager ask for account permissions?
Web Connect only needs to access your Google account to connect it to your google account. It can't any private data or passwords.

Not to sound mean but I can read. I have already read that. That is why I was asking it on here. I was looking for a reason to why it needs to connect to your google account. What is it using it for?

No worries about sounding sarcastic. I'm perfectly fine dishing out or taking the snark
Basically, it's because the Web Connect feature in ROM Manager allows you to link ROM Manager to your Google account. This way you can click on a link on a forum and have it automatically download to your phone, much in the way the web browser app market does.
From the ROM Manager dev site:
Some people really prefer to browse a forum and learn about a ROM before downloading it. And some developers don't want to go through the trouble of maintaining a ROM Manifest.
What if you could click a link on a forum, in your computer's browser, and it started downloading the ROM... on your phone? Introducing ROM Manager's latest and greatest Premium feature: Web Connect.

Sorry that I sounded that way. Thank you very much for the advice. Its that required to run the manager.

Do you have a PC? You could use IPshield or similar to give the impression you are in another country. Or a paid for VPN service (I use UKiVPN & recommend it. It's fast, cheap & reliable). Once you can access Market on PC you can transfer aps to device. Good luck!

I mean no disrespect, but I wish people on these forums would stop being so cryptic with their "I know something you don't know mentality" & assuming everybody else is as clever as them. That's why forums get bloated with crap & make it hard work to find what you're looking for.
Just get to the point. No more half-answers please!

Vogie,
I'm not sure on the exact method to connect PC to your device but I guess it's similar to mine... I just connect USB cable and select PC data mode on Galaxy Tab. The SD card and internal storage are then visible as external disks on PC. You can copy any downloaded APK files (google is your friend) onto your sd card this way, or just plug your sd card into your PC. Once you have the APK file for the app you need install them. There are many app installer aps available for this but I guess your problem is you are not able to download one from the market in the first place!! Catch 22... Maybe best to do as the other posters have suggested and visit one of the alternative markets (google your friend) on your device.

[Q] Is there no app for up/downloading files to Google Docs?

I have been searching for an app for the last 3 days but couldn't find anything that fits:
Requirement:
*simple app for uploading and downloading (any, not only "office" files) to Google Docs, basically something like the Dropbox client but only for Google
* optional automatic sync over wifi
Am I really looking for something that does not (yet) exist?
Someone told me that an app with such functionality is unwanted by Google?!
Greets,
Georg
PS: Sorry if I post this in the wrong section, couldn't find a better one...
Tried Docs by Google?
Yes, I did. But there is no option to download files directly to my device. You can only upload and edit files as far as I know...
Sent from my MZ601 using Tapatalk
Some time ago I was using this one: https://market.android.com/details?id=art.wild.gdocs . It does what you want, I think. In addition it uses oauth and this is a big advantage for me, because I hate to enter my Google password into some apps.

I've asked the mods to move that to general as it's not phone specific. I've also added a method of doing it from the address bar, so you don't have to either use Chrome or figure out how to do the same in your browser of choice.

Questions about cyanogenmod 9.1

Hi there,
i just rooted my htc sensation and put the cyanogenmod 9.1.
It is really great but i have some questions:
-the Barclays Banking app don't work cause they blocked the access to the root phones, i found on the forum some [how to] for the S3, but didn't work for the sensation, do you have any solution for that?
-the sync of the address book with Facebook and twitter is no working, Ok I know that Google prefer that we use Google+ and don't add this feature in his own system, but there should be a solution, some API to flash in the firmware, or things like that..(i don't want to use apps like, syncnow, friendcaster ecc)
Please answer as soon as possible to my questions, and really thank you so much in advance for your patience.
Ps Sorry for my bad English

Hi there I don't know the solution to your first problem but I do for your second :victory:
I often come across situations on ROMs when there is always those one or two apps I know I wont use so I use a application called Titanium Backup to 'freeze' them. You need the paid version to be able to freeze apps so here's a link to it via the Play Store CLICK ME
BUT if you're a cheapo like me go to a website called APK MANIA and then search for "Titanium Backup Pro 5.6.0 APK". I would give you a link to it but that is against XDA regulations.
sorry maybe i didn't explained really good. i don't want to freeze application, i want to know if there is a method for sync the facebook address with the telephone address...as the photo, the callendar, ecc... as it was on the htc sense..
Sorry, but as i told my english is not really good.
THIS could be your app to sync facebook with your contacts. I do not know if there is any mod/update or anything you could use instead of applications.

well, actually in account&sync everything is marked(whatsapp, facebook, google+ ecc) but the sync for the facebook photo doesn't work, now i'm using friendcaster, but i really would like a better implementation as the one of the htc sense, (maybe there is a method to flash only this thing) or at least an app that allow me to select manually the friends with the photos (as haxsync, syncnow ecc..) but this is the method that i am using riht now with friendcaster...

Actually you are violating the xda rules by giving instructions on how to find warez, even without a link.
There are plenty of free apps that can freeze other apps. Dont come here showing how someone can get one of the paid ones for free...link or no link.

APK Downloader - doesn't require your Google username or password

Shameless plug but I think it would come in handy for quite a few people.

I can see how it can come across as spam as I have 0 post history but it isn't - it actually works. Give it ago, nothing to lose.
This is the best tool of its kind and it really works. Thanks OP for this wonderful thing. Even there is a binary for windows on the website.
This looks rather interesting.
However, as you point out in your own website "you shouldn’t trust random binaries on the Internet and thus the C# source code is available if you wish to build it your self", it would be great to know how this works.
The C# app is just a wrapper for your web app. It doesn't show how it's done, so it doesn't allay any fears other than running the windows app. You still don't know anything about the apk that's downloaded.
Great idea though.
Exactly.
However I've downloaded a few small files and they match with the ones I already had.
I won't share how it's done but the APK is directly downloaded from the Play Store as if you were browsing it your self. Feel free to do MD5/SHA1 checksum comparisons of the apk from the play store and of the apk downloaded via this tool.

If it could then the thread would have been deleted and the OP would be receiving a stern message about distributing warez on a developers' forum. So, no - it doesn't download paid apps for free, as it says in the 1st post.
