So, honestly, HOW bad is the screen? - G Tablet General

I ordered mine last night, and keep reading all these horror stories about the screen. I sold my NookColor last month im afraid im going to be disappointed now

It could be better, but it's not a deal breaker, IMO.
It takes some getting used to (i.e. holding it upside down helps a lot as it's much brighter), but I love mine. I've had my G Tablet since January and haven't regretted it.
Obviously it's not an iPad, but it's still an excellent device.
To some, having an inferior screen is a deal breaker. That is a personal preference, as for me it's not that big of a deal.

So bad they sell theese things for less than half the zoom. Gimme yours ill take it

I read that some earlier ones had the screens installed upside down, maybe yours?

Check out this thread for more opinions.

Mine is there too.
Hope that helps

The horror stories are usually from people who bought the gtab at full retail price and was expecting an ipad like display. The gtabs display is equal to the ipad at a straight on view. At other angles that's where the difference lies. I have a nook too. The only advantage the nook has are better viewing angles. If you bought the gtab for under $300, the viewing angles can be forgiven because I don't think you'll find too many android tablets with these specs and a better display. Like I said, all you woot buyers are lucky mofos. Be happy with your purchase cuz you got a great deal especially if this is your first venture in the tablet world.

that's interesting, because a lot of apps for me that won't rotate to landscape, I have the soft buttons up top, which is fine, but the accelerometer is backwards. For example, Doodle Jump was the freebie from Amazon today, and I have to tilt opposite of what I should have to...
Running Vegan 5.1b .. anyone else have this issue?

My question is, How can a company that makes monitors, screw up the screen on a tablet? I get the software sucking out of the box, but if anything should be good it should be the screen.

Not crisp or responsive as an Ipad screen but not bad at all. obviously when I looked at my iphone 4 retina display I just whisper and smile lol

The screen isn't bad at all . Is pretty much the same as my laptop and netbook.

Because they didn't build the actual device. Plus not many companies including viewsonic actually manufacture their own LCDs.

Its bad. I have posting on SD warning people about the screen. It is not a deal breaker but alot of people who brought it has returned it. One thing for sure you cant hold it in potrait mode without tilting it a bit because the color will wash away.

It is poor coding in doodle jump. Try "Abduction" for a very similar game with proper tilt.

it is literally the worst screen i have ever seen. completely unworkable!!!!!

It's not that bad, I can count the number of times the screen has been a problem on one hand.
I use my G-Tab in landscape only mode though, the screen is worse is you try use it portrait mode. Hope that helps.

If you hold it the right way, it's fine. Not the best, but it works just fine.

Really? Have you guys ever seen a tablet screen besides the ipad? I have been working with tablet pc's for almost 10 years so I have watched the progression. Yes ipad is better, but to say the screen on the Gtab is total rubbish is to discount all the other true garbage displays from the last decade. It would be considered top of the line for a tablet a year ago. Yes apple set a bar and I to wish that my tab had a sweet LG screen but I am also glad Im not stuck in iOS or pay 200 more for my tab.
Realistically its a decent screen.
Damn tired of people crapping on stuff just because they feel the need to take a dump.

If you don't like the screen, return the device. Enough said.
Jesus christ, this screen is better than most tablet/laptop screens out there. If you want a better screen and have money coming out of your ears, go right ahead and go for the xoom or ipad. No one will stop you.

Replacement LCD for G Tablet!

Deleted first post. Stock screen is a no go. We need a new LCD all together
I was thinking about doing this, and if it is matte then that would make a difference. Just not sure if it is worth it, if the Adam comes out soon I may pick one up.
If you flip the Gtablet upside down, you will notice the angles look much better. Not sure why they mounted in a manner that has weaker angles, but it seems the most cost efficient way for a better display is if the connector, ribbon and bezel mount accommodated a 180 degree rotation
Adam is still in marketing concept stage for customer messaging. No word on their blog yet on distribution or mass production agreements by a contract manufacturer. Probably March release, if I were a betting person.
Hrmm well I Still wanna try this but I Probably wont get to it Untill atleast 2 more weeks. Broke till next pay check -_- Black Friday Deals Drained me....If all turns out good Ill post results.

Ok so I was Reading the Hardware Breakdown thread and saw that the Model for the lcd display used in the g tablet Is used on notebooks. So if I Buy a Replacement Screen of the same model im assuming it would work if put on correctly right? Well the one in the G tablet looks to be Matte Finish type which explains bad viewing angles but I found this website that sells 2 different types of lcd Displays that should be interchangable. the Next time i Get Payed im Gonna buy the Glossy Version wich should provide Better Viewing Angles and Superior Crispness and see if it work as planed. Could this be the Screen Problem Solution we have been waiting for? Heres the Link
http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/B101AW06~V.1/
Hopfully it works with our tablet and Improves the Screen Angles! This might be worse for outdoors though. if you click 'Info' on glossy it explains more!

This sounds great let me know how it works out! My gTab arrived with about 10 dead pixels (most of them are small and i cant see them without being picky) and I am eager to try something else.
I thought viewsonic would be more picky about what kind of screens they put in their stuff.
These laptop screens might be the same, keep in mind. My netbook exhibits the same solarizing effect as my GTab - you just can't see it since you usually look at it head on.

I know all my laptops have better viewing angles or at least richer blacks. So I do have some hope at improvement, since the panel in mine is so messed up.
Does anyone have any experience with these exact panels? any recommendations?
any reviews on this!
the screen from the Dell Inspiron Duo (if it has the same single connector) seems to have a lot better specs. It's supposed to be 1366*768 with much better viewing angles than this piece.
In fact, I'm considering returning my GTab for one.

Battery life isn't issue #1 for me. Usability is, and that's where the gtablet starts falling off for me. I feel that I can do a lot better for the money.
--
I think the issue with the Dell screen is going to be the connector. I get the feeling nobody else is using the tiny non-locking Molex connectors the gtablet uses.
To those looking for reviews, just Google "Pixel Qi Review", I can't post links otherwise I would do so. There's several articles on Engadget, and a few videos on Gizmodo and Slashgear. The idea behind Pixel Qi is that in sunlight you can disable the backlight, and the sunlight is reflected off the back (inside) of the screen; this makes the sunlight act as a backlight, resulting in being more viewable outdoors. Also, the display can be switched between 'normal' LCD and 'e-paper' style as well. Really, the biggest reason I'm interested is the viewing angles. Netbook LCDs have horrible viewing angles (the G Tablet's screen is a Netbook LCD), so I would love to see this tablet with a better display.
Pilxel qi seems to way way more expensive priced at almost 300$, Which is almost the price of another tablet. Also do they even make pixel qi screens that work on this tablet? I couldnt find it on the website

has anyone tried swapping out the screen?
It is my only gripe about the tablet lol.
Honestly i dont care though because all other tablets are priced 100-200 more and have lower hardware specs.
I can live with the screen considering it really isnt too bad... just by comparison it isnt as good as the iPad.
I cant compare 7" tablets though... because ... frankly they are 7 inches... you squeeze more pixels into a smaller screen and it will look nicer... simple as that.
If you think about it... us early g-tab adopters can hack ours up and when we want a new one ... probably sell a hacked up gtab for a pretty penny when we are done with it.
I'm not sure why there are so many complaints. How often are you going to look at a tablet at sharp angles?? The only legitimate angle that someone mentioned was if the tablet was laying flat on a table in front of you and you were reading an eBook or something.
Maybe it's just the way I use it, but I don't have a problem with the screen at all.

Landscape Mode is Fine but I Cant stand it when Im Trying to read a Book in Portrait mode. Kinda have to tilt it and it just looks stupid. This tablet is Best Landscape only. Thats why It Would be Nice to have a Better Screen With Better Angles. Theres 3 Versions of the LCD Screen I Mentioned on the first post. I Wonder if one of those would fit....hmmm....

My $.02 on viewing angles

yes, viewsonic (formerly one of the best monitor manufactures) should have put in a better display. yes, the viewing angle sucks, sorta ..
I mainly work in landscape mode.. When i have the tablet sitting on my lap at lets say probably +30 deg from perpendicular the screen looks, well gritty.. The pixels get a little funny to say the least.. However, this is when the volume buttons are at the top, if i spin the tablet around so the volume buttons are on the bottom, the grit goes away.. it still looks a little washed out, but not too bad .. Added bonus, i'm a lefty and now the menu buttons are near my left thumb.. double win..
All in all, this is what i consider a personal device, do i care that the person 6 feet away can't read my screen due to bad viewing angles, nope not at all..
justsayin
I agree. I think that if I want to show someone something on it, I would hand it to them to see, or point the darn thing at them.

I understand the beancounters have to keep profitability up... but come on. I don't think I've ever had a bad Viewsonic monitor.
i remember back in the day, when 100lb CRTs made everyone drool, viewsonic owned the market.. They just can't compete now with sooo many other manufactures ..

Viewing Angle?

The only thing that is stopping me from pulling the trigger on the gtablet is the viewing angle issue that everyone is complaining about. Honestly I dont care how the screen looks if you are looking at it in an angle because one will always look straight into it anyways.. Other than this, what else is the issue with the screen?
Sears will be running a 10% off on this tomorrow AM bringing the price down to $342 and I need to make up my mind to grab it for that price.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'seen the comments about th screen, and while I'm not an expert on LCDs, I've never understood the complaints.
The screen on mine is bright, at 80%, and I don't notice much problem even at angles. I keep wondering if some Gtabs have different LCDs!
Jim
Probably the biggest issue I have is the solarizing effect that occurs when the screen is tipped back, while in landscape. This is something that is noticeable if you have the tablet flat on a desk and you are trying to view the screen that way. You can work around it by flipping the screen, but that doesn't work with all applications.
I don't think portrait mode is so bad, as I usually look at that straight on (it might be slightly high in contrast but you can turn it slightly to fix that).
IMO, viewing angle is not an issue but .... a privacy feature!
Definitely not a deal breaker for me. There are times where I wish I could get a wider angle, such as flat on a desk. However, it works fine for the majority of uses.

Would be nice if they would run it at $349 again and the 10%. Let me know if they will give you the 10% on it as I will go get another.
Go check a Staples and see if they still have a demo unit out(they're apparently pulling it but some store might still have a demo unit out -- Sears just has a cheezy mockup...), or maybe an Office Depot...
The viewing angle really isn't so bad when you're using as I've found all the time that I'm holding or have it propped on my lap I have an almost dead view so the viewing angle limitation is not apparent.
As others have mentioned there have been a few times when I'd've liked a better viewing angle, such as when I have laying on the desktop while transferring files to it or having it do things and want a quick check of the screen status w/o have to crane over it...
My biggest remaining complaint is 10" form factor and weight, but mostly the 10" which makes it unwieldly which is why I'll eventually be adding a 7" to complement it, likely a Nook Color(NC) ATM although I'm resisting(strongly) running out and buying one any second now... (made it through Thursday & Friday w/o buying one... keep telling myself more tablets are on the way and to wait a bit although B&N seem to be the best at support so far, and given that they're still supporting the eInk Nook(Nook B&W? NBW?)...)
OTOH the 10" & weight allowed them to pack in a pretty decent battery, and I can manage a few days between charges which I'm sure no 7" will be able to manage, and especially not the NC... going to have to charge every night, and watch screen brightness & WiFi usage...
[EDIT]
Since I added in the Sears line above, it's funny I went to Sears to buy one of those crappy cases(VS $6 one), and the sales guy was laughing about how they have almost nothing in stock... He mentioned that because I asked if they had any other cases than that one, and he said that's it.. going on to mention of the two netbooks on display only the ASUS was in stock, they had 1 HDMI cable, 2 VGA cables(not sure what he meant by this one), a couple of ipods... pretty sad... I can't help but wonder if all Sears stores are like that or just that one... if they're all like that Sears is in trouble...
The Sylvania tablet display had disappeared too, since I was last there in mid-November... still had the white & black PDNs on display, along with a lone Sony eInk reader...
[/EDIT]
I got mine site unseen and also struggled with all the negativity before opening it. I finally broke down and gave it a go and can say I really love the device. Sure, the screen is probably its weakest link but far from the bleek picture painted in most reviews.
I guess many sites are holding the Gtab up to iPad standards. The screen is just a regular old netbook LCD. Viewing angles are made for landscape and looking down at 45 degrees. Everything outside that is pretty poor but typically that is how I hold the thing and the viewing angle doesn't bother me. Portrait is another story and if you want this thing to be an e-book reader (or anything) in that form factor then you will be sorely disappointed.
Viewing angle sucks big time and anyone who says otherwise is just trying to justify and otherwise good amchine they purchase and spent a lot of time getting to work properly.
It is a pain to type on in any kind of angle as the most comfortable angles make screen look negative polarity.
For straight on viewing I agree it's nice
I just got mine in sears with a 5% discount off of $379. I know the stock rom is junk and I dont even care as i'll flash it with vegan or tnt. I am trying hard to like the screen. In portrait mode, when viewing web pages, the text is alright but the pictures have this solarizing effect which I am not able to get over with.. darn.. why didnt they put a good screen on this otherwise a good power house.. will play around lil bit before deciding if i should keep it or send her back

You HAVE to have a different screen than the one I got. I can't get it to go negative no matter what angle I turn it too. The wife and I browsed the web for hours tonight and it worked perfectly, the viewing angle is much better than her hp laptop.

Maybe different batches have different screens. Mine is terrible if I hold it in portrait and look at it straight on. I have to tilt it to one side to make it usable unless it's completely dark.

You mind telling us where you got the GTab, and when? And your model # on the box? I wouldn't discount the possibility that you might have slightly different device than the rest of us.
I know that bekit had gotten a device that had different partitions than the "norm" - maybe the LCD is different, as well. All speculation, of course.
The viewing angle was the only thing I was worried about on this device prior to purchase as this was the main complaint, but after receiving it, its not as bad as some people made it to be, really some people are just really picky. I'm usually really anal about these things too but it is really not that bad.

There's a difference between good and good enough. The screen is good enough. Could be better, but works fine. I think most "positive" responses are of similar mind.
My workaround is to place a gum eraser underneath the top of the unit when I'm using it at the kitchen counter. The extra 1 1/2" of tilt helps viewing and the eraser doesn't slip.
An annoyance but definitely not a show stopper for me....
Can someone post a picture of what this viewing angle issue. I see so many references too it, bit I can't get a good visual of what people are taking about

[Q] Is the screen really that bad?

I want to get the G-Tablet. It's a powerful device and it seems that VEGAn-TAB, TnT Lite, Cyanogenmod, and zPad are gonna support this thing for a LONG time. The only thing I'm concerned about is the screen. Is it really as horrible as everyone says it is?
Some people say it's no big deal, and some people say it makes their eyes hurt. I don't care about viewing angles; I'm sure I won't be laying it on a flat tabletop trying to use it. But the supposed screen issues are making me want to wait to see what MSI, Moto, and Asus reveal at CES. It seems like all those tablets will be awesome, but will they be as hackable as the G-Tablet? The G-Tablet is like a Nexus Tab.
Are there any pics that will give me an idea of how the screen looks? Are there demos set up at Office Depot?
I wouldn't expect anything from Moto to be easily hackable as their current lineup suggests. The viewing angles in portrait are nothing to right home about but they are not that bad in landscape. I got my latest one at Office Depot and they had one display. I'm sure there will be better things coming but due to the great devs here this should be a great device until something very much better comes along. Roebeet posted some pics of the viewing angles but I couldn't find them easily
The viewing angles are bad, but other than that the screen is fine. From straight on (especially in landscape) it's a pretty nice image. If you aren't worried about the viewing angles, then there's nothing to worry about the screen
What about using it flat on the table? Lets say normal viewing/using when its laying flat on the table.. I am not concerned with others being able to see it.. just when I am using it on a table flat I want to to be viewable with at least 80% of the quality..
Also.. what about portrait.. does it give that "3D" effect with one eye having a different contrast than the other?
If any of you have a netbook.. take the netbook and stand it portrait and look directly at the screen.. You will know what I mean..

Find a store that has one on display. Staples used to and I think office depot still does.
Office depot has them on display. The last time i was there to buy a case i updated their display model to the newest viewsonic rom.
If you can't find one in the store, you can use any standard netbook screen as a good example - turn it back and forth and you'll see the solarization effect.
The screen is the #1 hardware issue I have with the device, which is ironic given that this was released by Viewsonic. As time has progressed, it's become an actual annoyance to me, so much so that it could (in all seriousness) be the main reason why I eventually sell mine. Portrait mode actually hurts my eyes after a short time, and trying to watch movies while the screen is layed back 45 degrees is completely useless.
I keep hoping that we can get a better LCD solution, as i would do that if it were possible.

If it's lying flat on a table 6" to a foot in front of you and you are sitting "properly" (back against backrest) the image is borderline unusable. you have to hunch over it to get the straight on view.
In portrait, you are correct, it very much has the "3D" effect. I can't really use it that way without getting annoyed/headache.
Needless to say the screen is a deal breaker for me. I'm going to play with this tablet for a week or so and return it and wait for the good stuff to come that gets announced at CES. With that said i fully expect to have to pay at a minimum one hundred more than for this tablet. This tablet is really a steal at 400 if you can live with the screen.
Appreciate the honesty... It sounds like it would be a deal breaker for me... Last night I was playing around with all the android phones at the new years party and then the ipads that were laying around and have to say.. that screen is just amazing... but love the openness of the Android platform..
The net net is... the Apple OS is nothing to dismiss and the screen is the cherry on top...
If these vendors dont put in what is needed into the screen, coupled with I would say a very immature platform it will take at least 2 generations before it catches mass acceptance...
Lets see what this week has in store at CES..

Thanks for all the replies. I was going to wait for CES anyway, but now I'm thinking I'll wait for MSI's WindPad 110 regardless. The internal hardware is probably very similar and the device will probably be more polished and more supported. Hopefully in the future we'll see VEGAn-TAB or zPad on it
I am one of those owners who wanted to love the G Tablet. I had stars in my eyes when I snapped it up at my local Office Depot.
The screen absolutely killed it for me though.
I am a long time tablet user (mostly on Nokia Tablets). I love the form factor. Just waiting for someone to do it right. From what I can gather thus far, G Tablet is that device who can live with the screen, Nook Color is the device for those who don't mind a lack of buttons, and Galaxy Tab is for those who don't mind paying through the nose to not give in to Apple.
I still love mine, regardless of the screen. I knew about the viewing angles going in and checked it out at OfficeDepot before buying (they had a live one on display). In landscape you can easily get a good viewing angle while holding it, it's not so bad that you have to constantly hunt for the right angle. In portrait it's not so great, my use case for the tablet is 90% hand held and in landscape so I'm alright with this. On a table you would definitely want to prop it up at an angle, if you can do that it would be fine but laying flat is a no go unless you want to slouch way over the tablet.
I have a Nexus One, so I know what a good screen looks like. Honestly, the gtab doesn't bother me. I hold it pretty much straight on, or flip it upside down sometimes when browsing, and it's just not a big deal to me. Sometimes when it's on my lap I'll put a remote control under the top of the screen to prop it just a touch.
I'd also add that just because new tabs get announced at CES doesn't mean they'll be available next week. I bet most won't come out until March, with Honeycomb. I'm quite happy to have the gtab to play with until then.
I hope you guys won't mind me barging in here to ask a quick question. It is about the screen (okay, sort of).
Lets say I wanted to use my GTablet on a table, is there any good stands to put it on so that I can use it and not have to hunch over as I usually do (it hurts my back sometimes not to mention just plain awkward)?
I just thought there might be a particular kind or model that is the best that the GTablet would stay on securely. If not, I'll just locate some general-type stand and use that.
The screen is why I returned my unit. I don't expect too much from MSI, their netbooks also had horrible screens. Also, do not expect anything in 10.1 to be iPad similar. All the 10.1" screens are TN ****.
Folks,
I have a question -- what is all the big deal about tables?
If I want to work on a table, I use my netbook or my laptop or even go to the computer room and use my desktop.
I use my tablet sitting in a chair holding it or letting it rest in my lap. Or sometimes I set it on a picture holder on the desktop while I access my desktop. Or I lay on the bed with it sitting on my belly or chest (HO! HO! HO!) Or in the car my wife holds it while she plays games. IMHO, tablets are designed to be used portably and that means getting it in front of you in your hands or on an appropriate holder.
Yes, my view angles are not shiny either. But I don't use it in ways that make that a factor. I have adapted to maximize it. As someone said, looking at the screen what I call normally it puts out a great picture.

P. S. -- Not trying to start a flame war. I just think some people are expecting too much of a reasonable-priced just-introduced product. Nothing -- not even (especially) the fruity products -- is perfect. IMHO.

If this is cause I came in here asking about that (instead of making a new topic or just keeping that to myself), then I'm sorry.
It almost seems like that post was directed at me (not saying that in a mean way, more of 'aww *sad face* way).
I was the one who came in here in this topic asking about that specifically. Never mind about that, then.

This has been discussed in the accessories portion of the forums, but what i use that works great is a nice little china plate stand thingy that my wife had bought for some china she wanted to put in the china closet, looks like a wire hanger type thing cost her 2 bucks and works amazing for the tablet on the table so i dont need to "hunch over". im sure you can get it at any store like staples or something like that, dont know exactly where she got it from.
hope this helps.
Some people say that the sceen is defective becase of the poor viewing angle. That is wrong. The screen is not defective. It is just a lower priced screen which in the end translates in a lower price for the tablet. A better screen would increase the price.

or them just putting the screen on the right way and not upside down like it seems they did since turning it upside down works perfectly.

I dont mind the bleed. Its gonna happen with this type of screen. Some posters act like their gonna be using their phone in the dark with a blank screen.
Enjoy this superphone!
You can calm the **** down. Unlike you, myself and many others are not going to say "eh oh well ill deal."
Agreed. This is a non-issue in my book. If XDA had a 'firstworldproblems' subsection, this would be at the top:
"My $500 super flagship smartphone with dual-core 1Ghz CPU, 512MB/8GB, HDMI output, 8MP/1.3MP cameras, and future CM support has slight light bleeding around the edges, and I'm just raging in anger at this piece of junk!!!!"
Edit: I found this just too funny, just posted it on /r/firstworldproblems
I am one if the lucky ones I guess, with no bleed issue. I have seen my friends g2x and it does have small bleeding but only with brightness turned all the way up and on a completely black screen. But it wasn't all that bad and he is keeping his as would I. The device is not perfect and not one made so far has been. Or ever will be perfect. Someone will always find what they think is a flaw.

seriously..... WOW.. I'm not freaking out or anything. but I paid $500 for a device that has an issue. and I know LCD'd do, I have TV's and computer monitors with this issue and it is minor.
but I've used the Droid, the Nexus One, the G2, the Droid X, the Vibrant, and the Droid X, and the EVO and NONE.. NONE had anything even close to this.
maybe 10% of it at most, but nothing as bad as my picture... I understand a little bit of bleed, and will be ok with that, but mine is enough for a replacement IMO. oh and many are saying they have the phone with NO leakage. so as much as we shouldn't be too unhappy, if some don't have the issue, why should I have to have it!
Honestly I'd rather have a screen that bleeds a little and looks great rather than an amoled screen that RAPES your battery. Just saying

Maybe yours needs replacement. But in general, all your past phones weren't perfect either, no phone is perfect. The Droid had limited memory, the Nexus One had a wonky touch screen, the G2 had the hanging hinges, the Droid X had motoblur, etc etc. People will always find some flaw to complain about.

I would agree with you if there were N1s without wonky touch screens, G2s with decent hinges (perhaps there were a few), Droid Xs without motoblur, etc. To me, it's the idea that there are G2xs without the bleeding (and ones not as bad), and I also happened to get a G2x with heavier bleeding than I'd like. Judging by the amount of people who don't have problems, and considering that this is a forum that attracts people who are peculiar about their phones, I'm fairly sure that my replacement won't be anywhere near as bad.
These kinds of threads are common whenever a new phone is released. I think the worst one ever was the G2 and hingegate. However, it's still helpful to get an idea of how widespread certain issues are. Do we need 20 threads about the same thing? No, of course not. But to complain about people saying there's something wrong, in their opinion, with their phone is just stupid.

I suspect the amount of bleeding is roughly the same across all G2xs, but some people are just less sensitive to it. In fact, I had never even known what LCD bleeding is (and I've owned 5 Android phones the last two years) until this G2x drama began. I decided to inspect my devices and sure enough my Nook Color has some bleeding at the bottom. I never noticed it before, but I bet many of the disappointed G2x'ers would have. Some of us just aren't sensitive to it. Kinda reminds me of the 'dust under the screen' paranoia with the N1.

ROFL. It's hard being first... =/
what the hell guys. now you all gave this perfectionist something to look for.
i used adw to hide the staus bar and set my background to solid black. it does show for me in the top right corner moreso than anywhere. on my default home screen, i have the weather clock from beautiful widgets running. i have to really strain to see it. if i slide over to a screen with nothing but black background, it's clearly visible. but only if i put the phone in a dark spot, like under my desk. it's still visible though. but not like it's blinding. even with 2.3 and a black status bar, the icons would hide it,on my phone at least. am i going to return it? no. but if i heard tmo considered this an issue and lg had phones with no bleeding and were willing to replace them? then i might. this phone might get sold in a year if the merger goes through because no way am i going to att. so for me, i can live with it. i did notice it in my camera app before this thread was started. but didn't think it was that big a deal. it's not like it shows while playing videos. and i haven't noticed any problems with pictures taken.
I agree all LCD's have some bleeding, my old G2x had it bad like posted in the other screen thread. I noticed mine immediately after turning it on, on the initial setup screen, on darker background, while playing games, and watching a test movie.
Coming from a N1 with absolutely no bleeding, I chaulked it up as normal for LCD's. After reading some didn't have it, I went to the store and looked at the display model and bought another one.
Comparing the two is night and day. So all I can say is return it if they won't swap it out. The original was purchased online and the second one was tested at a store with a 14 day return policy attached. Getting a refund on the first one.
Yes large lcd monitors and lcd tvs have screen bleed largely due to the tech, but its piss poor for a small 4" lcd display to have screen bleed as well.
You don't see screen bleed on any other lcd phones such as htc desire hd, xperia and the iphone. Do a search on this forum and the only phone that have screen bleed problems is this phone.
This is NOT a common issue on tiny lcd screens.
People saying this is common and should just accept it is just making lame excuses up for lg.
I understand both sides of the story here
Your side: Yes I understand this is super annoying, and it's a KNOWN issue so why didn't someone make 1 Thread about it, and just comment in the thread.
Everyone else side: Okay I would understand the bleeding screen if it were lets say 2008 or so, but it's 2010 and were really having problems with the screen? Seriously? It's not like they didn't know, they merely didn't care I'm guessing.. Another thing that makes me wonder, is why if they are making (they being lg) iPhone retina screens, couldn't they bump up the display a little?
Ps: Idk, not starting anything, just explaining my point of view
