I may have hspa+ - HTC Inspire 4G

I just ran 10+ speed tests all over my area, which is Athens Georgia, and am consistently getting 5mbps down and 2 up. I did however just flash leedroid so it may be rom related but I have never seen anything over 3 mbps, so my question is, has anyone else seen an increase in speed recently? If so where are you located?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

I was getting about 2.5mbps on stock optomized, flashed MIUI and now im getting about 3.5, so it could be the difference in roms...
But 5mbps is pretty good either way.
Im in Top City Kansas though, where is your location?

So I've figured out that there is HSPA+ in San Francisco after all. I bought one of the AT&T Shockwave (Sierra Wireless USB 308), and rather than installing AT&TConnect, I got the Generic Non Branded Sierra Wireless Air Card Watcher, which diagnoses the signals available. It shows here in San Francisco I'm getting HSPA+... still only actually seeing 4.1mbps down, and 1.4mbps up, but hey, at least the technology is confirmed deployed, so once backhaul is running it'll work

I'm in Norcross right now and can't get anything above 2Mb down. I live north of here in Flowery Branch and I've never gotten over 3Mb on my Inspire. I did hit over 5Mb a few times on my Captivate though. But that was months ago. I don't think there is "4G" service in this area yet.

Ya I am getting between 3 and 5 now its pretty sporadic so I bet it just when the network is not too jammed up I am just getting good 3g. So sad.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

I don't think you have it. AT&T said around 6MBPS is considered HSPA+. Do you have a 3G phone with you that you can compare it to. If they get the same speed its not hspa+ once our inspires start getting speeds faster than 3G phones then we can call it 4G

HSPA+ is a technology, not a speed. You can have 0.00001 mbps on HSPA+ ... lol.
Just because they deploy the technology doesn't mean they increase the backhaul to make use of it.

what is this BS about backhaul?
are you saying current 3G backhaul cant pump data faster than 4mb?
on att map, it shows 4G coverage is available in bayarea CA, but it doesnt matter how late at night or i'm the only one connected to tower, i never get speed over 4mb!

That's the whole issue... both 3G and 4G can handle up to 7mbps just fine, so everyone focusing on getting the 4G indicator should really be focusing on the actual speed ... I'd love to get 4mb on my phone ... I couldn't care less if it says 3 or 4G lol

A fellow Athenian here. I just did a couple of tests getting around 4200 kbps down and only 500 kbps up. I have been getting around 2500 down and 1000 up (I am using rooted stock ROM with LeeDroid's kernel).

Stock ROM is capped in the actual firmware, so no inspire will ever be fixed without a firmware update. It doesn't matter what ATT does to the network, The phone is where the cap is.

4 mbs isn't much of "4G" speeds as my captivate gets 5 down and 3 up almost all the time where I live and it can't do "4G" just 3G. So, while you may have 4G coverage, it's about the same speeds as a good 3G connection.

if you were getting HSPA+ you would be able to hit around 14.4Mbps down with full signal.
well, maybe that is the max speed for HSPA
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/HTC-Inspire-4G_id5120
not sure what the spec sheet there is referring to.

Check out this baby. I'm rooted, TPC ROM v2. I did modify my build.prop. Is this H+? This is progress though.

verizons thunderbolt (3g) vs. Sprints evo 3d (4g)

So me and my friend wanted to see whos network speeds were better. I have the thunderbolt and he just got the new evo 3d (kinda cool phone). Anyways I was only able to get 3g and he was getting 4g. So being the sporting guy that I am I said that I would race, Even though I cant get 4g. My other friend recorded it and we put it up on youtube

or I can just do the test like we did, It a clear test on speed uploading a actual website.
As far as using speed test app to measure true speed, for me I dont think its accurite. Cuz we did a speed test on the evo 3d when he was on 4g right before the youtube video and his score was 4000kbps download and the thunderbolt was on 3g at only 885kbps download. Now the thunderbolt on 3g still won downloading a web page. you can tell me all you want that "your speed" from the app is higher, But if i can surf the net faster and download things faster. then I have to conclude that the speed test app is nonsense.

Truth real speed test is downloading a website cause I'm pretty sure that's what we all do and trust me I just came from Sprint and I still got my Sprint phone and they don't compare , Verizon always had good service I left them a few years ago just because I wanted to saved money now I'm fine so I'll stick with Verizon, 3 more cents is all good for me

Agreed. The speedtest.net app is all over the place from the many many times I have used it. I think it's funny you beat a "4G" phone while on 3G. Now you need to do a video again on 3G vs a "4G" phone using the deathstar's service!

The EVO was loading flash content and the Thunderbolt wasn't. You can see the flash element preparing on the right hand side where the Thunderbolt just shows nothing.
Verizon's 3G is not faster than Sprint's 4G. The speedtest app is not that inaccurate.
Your right 100% I forgot to install flash last night after I downloaded a new rom. You are however wrong about verizon 3g not being faster then sprints 4g at least in that area and he has beaten me before in a deferent area. I do have to say he will only beat me once out of ten times sprints service suck all the time. Oh and btw once you posted that I did download 10.3 flash and we raced again and it was the same result.... I won. We just were not able to video it. If you guys don't believe me make sure your on 3g and have flash enabled, and do the race against my video. I promise you will beat sprint as well. We went to ebaumsworld.com

Try some more websites? Verizon 3G has incredible coverage but the speeds are not that great. Even when I had an AT&T iPhone 4 I would get 5000kbps vs my usually 800-1500kbps on Verizon.
I'm not gong to argue because it's not going to convince you nor do I live where you do, but in good signal areas Verizon's 3G will not be faster than WiMax (or even drastically faster than Sprint's 3G, if at all). Obviously LTE is the leader in 4G comparisons though.
It could also be that the EVO 3D doesn't have very optimized software. Find a large app on the Marketplace and have a download race.
PS: how does the 3D effect look?
The 3d for me is really cool looking. Other of my friends don't like it, but one thing. The 3d on the EVO got one of my Apple friends to give up his iPhone 4 and jump to Android lol, the same day the EVO came out. I think its very cool. Anyways your right I don't wanna to argue about things that are of course relative to a lot of different situations. I will however say in our area sprints service is inferior to Verizon,at&t, and even t-mo. When ever we do speed tests they always lose. The 3d EVO is defiantly a cool phone.

Infuse 4G speeds - pleasant surprise

I moved over from Captivate to Atrix to Captivate to Inspire to Infuse.
On all phones the max speeds I could ever get was around 3Mbps down, rarely hitting 4 (more like a lottery). Now, infuse blew me out with its download speeds -- averaging ~9 Mbps. Upload speeds aren't so great, but well, am no so much into uploading stuff all the time.
Posting this to make it easy for people who are thinking whether to switch to Infuse or not.

It all depends on:
1) If your tower supports HSPA+
2) If your tower has the "enhanced backhaul" - your speed to the tower means nothing if its connection to the Internet is bottlenecked
3) How many other people are using the tower at the time

I ran tests the next day inside UNI buildings and other places and still seemed to get awesome speeds.
Has anyone seen these speeds anywhere else in the country on AT&T 4G LTE?
I didn't get speeds that fast but in San Jose I was getting these numbers
ping: 60
UP: 27610
DWN: 14919
Where are you getting speeds like that at?
Jeez, where in Dallas are you getting speeds like that? The tower I'm on won't go past 30 down, that is unless I go past the Tom Thumb near me, then it jumps for like 50-60.
Uploads are ALWAYS at 13-17 though.
I have found (at least in Dallas) that when within a few hundred feat of the to were the speeds are insane

I have yet to use apps that would display what you're showing, but I have a fairly good seat of the pants feel for speeds, and yes, I notice web pages loading like a flash here in Los Angeles. I am using the skyrocket all over the West side. From LAX all the way up the beach past Venice and Santa Monica, and inland to Beverly Hills and Culver City, ever since I got this phone I've been amazed.
I'm also on the stupid 2 gig tiered data plan and I blew the lid off that and get automated text messages from AT&T's system informing me of each gig I go over how it's costing me another ten dollars.
The guy I ride around with in a truck all day has a Iphone 4 (the newest one) and his phone browses faster using my wifi hotspot, than it can on it's own. And that's part of the reason I went "over" as I like showing off.
It's an expensive trade off. His 3G unlimited plan is SLOW compared to my setup. I ditched the unlimited in favor of the tiered plan because I like how fast it is.
And no I didn't put the tether/hotspot plan on my bill, I simply flashed CyanogenMod to get it to work.
I should go to ATT store again for more rejection, and see if I can't get a better plan, (but I don't like beating my head against a wall).
Yes. Fast. And if you use it, it will cost ya. A hundred years ago, Jesse James used a gun when he robbed people. AT&T has morphed into a monster with even less integrity.
these are my speeds in ft worth

Im actually south of Arlington in mansfield. Even up at UTA and TCU, I get good speeds. 4G is INSANE!
My signature
see attached.
San Diego, CA
In Vegas last weekend, I got up to 44.52Mbps down. But, my connection was extremely unreliable. Sat night, couldn't get any data despite showing full bars. Only started to connect after 2am.
Out in LA (primarily the west side), I usually get around 14-15Mbps down, while once reaching a high of 27Mbps in Hollywood.
Atlanta speeds
Here are my speeds in Atlanta from a couple of weeks ago ...
Wow, most of your downloads are better then mine, but my uploads KILL yours. I average 17-22 up all the time. I'll screenshot it when I get home.

I ran this app just now found it on market. I see the download speed from Dallas makes mine look slow, but assure you it's faster than iPhone in exact same location.

I never get more than that in LA either.
And the speedtest app usually crashes when trying to test the upload.

I'm looking forward to LTE being enabled in Knoxville, TN. I know they have the towers up... just waiting for them to flip the big switch.

Post your T-Mobile Sensation 4G internet speed

Just wanted to share. Pretty impressed for T-mobile

Here in DC I might as well have 3G (technically it still is). I get, on average, 4 down, 1 ish up. A few times I've gotten 8 down. In wifi I average 8 or 9 download. Which still sucks.

South of boston I get 5 up as a MAX, most of the time it is only 2-3, and 1 down MAX.
It might be a little more useful if people gave their location AND their current radio/ril/DISH combination. I'm using the official TmoUS package with the included radio/ril/and new version of Dish2.
I get 3 to 5 in Virginia. I still remember the days of EDGE though, so I'm grateful even if I have 1mbit.

Those numbers in Atlanta are ridiculous! I'm so jealous right now. My WiFi is oftentimes lower than my darn data connection. It's such a joke. In Ocean City, Md. this weekend I got 0.06Mbps down, 0.01Mbps up, and 2904 ping (I can provide pictures if you don't believe me). That's literally with the 4G symbol and full bars. My girlfriend's iPhone 4S was hitting 2Mbps down (and that's 3G), and a friend's Bionic managed like 10Mbps down. T-Mobile was killing me; I essentially couldn't use my data all weekend and there was no WiFi.
ok, i'm in southern California and averaging around 3MBPS down. what radio should i flash? TMOUS, ICS, ARHD.
thanks!
and thats all we ever need folks. For me anyway, lol. I don't need 18mbps or more or whatever LTE is. 5mbps is fast enough for a mobile device. even 1.5mbps... that's just me talking though. haha
oh and the highest I've ever got was 9mbps
I used to get 7-9 down, but that's dropped off to 5-6 recently with the latest T-Mobile firmware. I may go back to the international.
