I have seen that you can run Android off of a SD card in a Nook Color. I was wondering if the same possibility was true with the G Tablet. Also, is anyone working on getting 3.0 on the G Tablet?
Thanks,

WHile we are happy your here, please bump through the forum before putting out a post. 90% of your questions can be answered in the first 5 hours of reading. Might sound a lot, but if your into tweaking, it flys by.
AFTER saying all that, No. Honeycomb is not forthcoming anytime soon. You would onlyneed to run Android if you cant run it through the ROM (i.e HTC HD2 AND NOOK). No need to do it here.
Please try one(or all) of the ROM's here and put some feedback out. It will help the dev's out tremendously!
Ok will do. My first will be TNT lite, then Cyanogenmod 6

Hi all,
Am a newbie to Android tablets/devices both in terms of hardware and software. So if my post is posted in the wrong thread or reposted pls pardon me. I just want to understand a few basics.
As you all may know, now the market is being flooded by those Chinese made Android tablets. And many of them looks good (at least on paper) and at a very good price. But the problem is most of the time when come to chinese goods, they don't usually do what they claims (if you know what i mean). and the best part most of the salesperson don't know anything about the products they are selling especially when comes to tech gadgets like the Android tablets.
So here i am seeking help from you gurus and hoping i can start my Android journey on the right step. Below are a few questions. Hope I can get answers (links to somewhere where i can read up or anything).
1. What are the conditions (CPU make, firmware, etc) to fulfill if i wan to upgrade/root/hack the original Android OS? Cos most of the chinese made tablets are running on Android 1.5. Hoping to be able to upgrade the OS whenever a newer one comes out. Like the latest 2.1 And be able to download new apps from the apps market.
2. Which CPU chip is better and what are the common CPU chips in the market now? I know there are the Rockchips, VIA, Telechips.
3. Can we tell what are the hardware (CPU make etc) and software (OS/firmware version, etc) that are being used in the device from the system setting or something?
4. I read somewhere that not all CPU chips can be upgraded to the latest OS. i.e. that any upgrade is determined by the CPU chip. Is it true?
5. As for custom ROM, is it also device dependable? Like is there a generic ROM for all devices?
For now these are the questions which are bugging me. Hope the gurus here can enlighten this Android newbie.
Sorry for the long winded post and thanks for any help.
Hmmm. Just check that it is upgradable to froyo and it has more than 500mhz cpu

if you are looking for a tablet just get an ipad. the android tablets i see floating around are just 1.5 or 1.6. even if you get a tablet that can do 2.2 (froyo)... i dont see how that can be any better than an ipad.
i just feel that 2.2 isnt meant to be in tablet form. if you can wait... wait for 3.0 before you decide. the main deterrent here is the maximum resolution for android (854 x 480 or something), and that the apps were made with phones in mind.
im very happy with my nexus one... i just cant imagine having a tablet running android as of the moment unless its very very cheap ($200 or so).
i for one will get an ipad next month. my nexus one with wifi tether + the basic wifi ipad will be gadget heaven. looking to get an ipad primarily for reading magazines (zinio) and comic books. android does not have zinio yet. the android comic viewer (ACV) i use on my nexus is ok... but not great. then theres the games. games on android are still so so with less variety and choices.
as a phone the android is great! better than the iphone (yes im an apple user through and through) even. but as a tablet... not quite yet.
Hp is going to release a tablet so is samsung with 2.2

Hopefully start seeing some of these 2.2 tablets in the 3rd Quarter...
Hey Guys, sorry if I should not be posting a new post here. I am new to windows devices... I am trying to help my brother out. He has a Touch Pro2 and has convinced his boss to allow me to hack it for the sake of speed and stability. I am looking at the mirage of ROM's here... just as many here as there are in the Android Dev side of things!!!
So my question is, what is going to be the best rom to start with? I am not looking for fancy features... I AM looking to speed up the device!
So my question is... what is the best ROM for the sake of Speed and Stability???
I need this device to run as fast as it can... without overheating... I am not so worried about battery life as he, and the rest of his guys, have and use car chargers most of the day.
Thanks for your help!
Anyone??? I tried XYC Clean, which seemed good, but it crashed after two days (won't boot up)... trying "Sprint Lovers" next... any opnions would be a great help!
mighty rom !
I want to purchase a phone but I am not sure which one to take-
here are my questions and help me clear these issues..ty..
I want to purchase a new android based touchscreen phone and I have narrowed down to htc desire, acer liquid ferrari and samsung galaxy S
I know all of these phones cater to a different niche altogether but I have a few basic questions regarding them... Are all of these having 3.5mm jacks ?
Can their ROMs be updated to Froyo especially for liquid e ferrari ?
Also which phone has the best sunlight legibility ?
Here are few specific questions -
Question 1 - htc desire is a gr8 all round fone.. So after doing an official FOTA from htc india website..
Can I root the phone and customize it with apps and other things then wat is d probability of messing things up ? And is it gonna run stable with a 16gb class 4 or above micro sdhc card ?? (sandisk or kingston)
Question 2 - acer liquid e ferrari is highly stylish phone and i love it to bits for the great paint job and everything.. But it has lots of useless apps and preloaded junk..
Can it be rooted and then flashed to a custom froyo based ROM ??? Is it possible coz no F0TA updates r there for froyo on this model by acer..
Question 3 - in casee of samsung galaxy s i've heard that its lag is reduced by rooting the phone and applying a lag fix.. Will this work with a custom froyo firmware ?
Thanks for patiently reading this and answering to these queries..
PS - sorry for the weird formatting was typed with nokia n97 in opera mini....
You could answer all of your own questions with a few minutes (maybe an hour or so) of using google and youtube. I just did a quick search around not even really trying and found out more information on some of this stuff than you even asked for.
Hmmm i agree but still i need some more help...

i agree that lot of stuff can be found if i properly research but i've got my university mid term exams going on so you can imagine im busy studying to improve my grades...
Also opening heavy webpages with a 2G network on an average speed of 120 kbps on this lousy n97 is tough...
I would greatly appreciate if you could 'rally a few specialists on the forum to my help'
It would save me a lot of time and tension...
Or you could answer a few of the questions according to all the research that you did, I would be very very indebted to you..
Thanks...
Hi. I own HTC Touch Pro T7272, i DID read the sticky, but I am still confused (may be because of my bad english). I have WM 6.5.3 right now, bit it's more and more laggy. I found out, that Android could be installed ony my device? If yes, would it be faster then WM 6.5? My father has Android and I like it more. If you would be so nice and post here link with guide where download and how to install Android into my phone? Thank you
Right now, I'd stick with winmo. If you find winmo is laggy, then installing Android is not the answer. I like it as a means to play around with but a part from that, nothing else seems to really fascinate me about Android, yet. Yeah, you can brag that you are running an OS other than what comes natively but over-all development is really slow for our device at the moment. If you like Android, my best suggestion is to get an Android native device. I'm sure this isn't the answer you were looking for but just thought I'd share my expereince with running Android on an older device.
for me i think android for touch pro is still have many bugs now. I have try to install froyo fx06 bundle, for the first time look i think it works good then windows but after a day i found that it drain battery, and sometimes wifi error and i need to restart my phone back to get it work, and the real problem is sometimes it's freeze. maybe we just need to wait a little while for someone release the new version.
p/s sorry if my english not good enough
I recently bought a 7" tablet from a great chinese site with bulk...here is the device:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCvef9IYX0o
(actually it's the closest thing to it but I have the actual link here)
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/600394/210366870-551855034/7-Android-4-0-5-point-Capacitive-Tablet-PC-1GHz-512MB-4GB-800x480-WIFI-G-Sensor.html
- only difference is mine is 2 gig and comes with ICS 4.03
Getting to the point...It comes pre-rooted and with some nice features for a 7 inch...but I messed around and installed busybox to "xbin" rather than "bin" as instructed...as those of you have have done this know: factory reset.
Now everything comes back up fine but one annoying little problem occurs...it won't let me install anything due to internal memory storage being full!
This is driving me up the wall as no site seems to cover this properly! Any know how techs wanna help this noob figure this out???
Also, is there a GOOD allwinner a10 link you guys have for people like me who love to tinker with not so well known android tablets from China? LOL! Love this place btw...been loyal for years to your forums, even if my name doesn't show it!
