I am using windows 7, I have managed to shrimp the normal partition to free up another 512MB but I have no means of resizing the ext3 partition? Also will I loose all the data?

[Q]s-off and custom mtd

hey there,
right now i am using a bravo phone which has s-off
i am looking forward to buy an nexus s
question: will there be in future the s-off feature to customize mtd partitions for custom roms?
thx
You must have overlooked all the sticky threads.
the nexus is an op phone ..s-off not needed .. No encrypted bootloaders . etc etc
custom roms can run without doing a lot of risky work
i know , i allready got that
i just want to resize my partition table
less space for the system, less cache and most of it for internal storage
is that possible with the nexus s?
so i gues no one resized the internal storage to get more space for apps or is it just not possible?
Don't know if it is possible, but you have app2sd on the phone and for example with cyanogenmod, you can set it to install apps to sd by default.
i know but normally if the dlavik cache and data cache is on the internal storage its faster isnt it?
on my bravo desire its that way...
On your bravo, the sd card is a physical sd card in a physical sd card slot. On the nexus s there is only ONE physical flash chip. The sd partition is just a part of that single chip.
ah ok, thx for that info
so there wont be any storage space problems anymore..

why? i mean you have only 9gb of internal storage.
Because I want a partition that accepts files bigger than 4gb to watch hd movies

We won't be able to change any partition until we achieve S-Off

Your 'sdcard' is just one of 36 partitions of the 16G emmc. Partitioning it would mean repartitioning the entire emmc.
I imagine that even with s-off, this is non-trivial and only be done by demigods who can then give us mortals a choice of a few different layouts, much like alpharev. Nothing as simple as with a separate main device with its own partition table.
Having said that, yes the device supports ext4. As a matter of fact, the data, cache, system partitions are ext4. You can probably format your entire 'sdcard' partition as ext4, and if android doesn't explicitly expect fat, it can even work. You can no longer mount over usb on a windows host of course.
I don't recommend you tinker with this unless you feel confortable you know what youre doing, what the possible side effects are, and how to revert it. Even if, say, your OS doesn't boot and recovery doesn't mount /sdcard.
Good hunting,

[Q] Partitioning MicroSD for Link2SD

What is the best way to create 2 primary partitions for using Link2Sd on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.
I have a 32 GB Micro SD card that needs the treatment.
Many thanks to all in advance.
Regards
Court
PS: I use mini tool home edition as a partitioning tool
which ROM ?
It depends on what ROM you are running. After trial and error ext4 was detected for my stock ICS and now works with CM10.1 too.
So partition it as 5 GB ext4 (more than sufficient ) and rest FAT. I too have 32 GB class 10 in this way via mintool partition.
PS: you cannot increase or decrease the size of ext4 using minitool once the partition is created. So plan properly while creating the partitions.

Google "gParted Live" and you'll find the cd. You can create your partition of EXT3 or EXT4. You can resize the partition as well. There are YouTube videos to help you see how to do it.
I don't know why you'd want Link2SD. It will permit you to store the app, cache and davlik in the ext partition instead of in the /data on the deviice. You likely have adequate storage in that device partition for those items. I think you you would do better with swapping /mnt/sdcard with /mnt/ExtSdCard.
I actually have tried both together and found no advantage to the Link2SD.

Partition 64GB microsd card to 2 x 32GB FAT32

Hi guys,
I want to partition my 64GB (I know, 59GB actually) microsd card into 2 x 32GB FAT32 partitions. I've tried to do it in windows, using MiniTool Partiton Wizard like I did with other microsd cards until now, but without success: the tool creates two partitions but the 2nd one is not usable (it does not have assigned a letter); any attempts to correct this were futile.
Can this issue be fixed somehow? If yes, how?

Start over, get it back to one unallocated partition, then use the Aparted app from play store.
Or you can try this

Thanks for your reply @Droidriven!
I've managed to create those partitions: sdcard1 and sdext2, both FAT32 and having 29.5GB each. First partition (sdcard1) is working flawless: access speed, read, write. The 2nd one...
The 2nd one (sdext2) has an issue - I cannot create files (.txt), in root or in other subfolders. However, I can access it, move data to it from the other partition or from the internal sdcard and I can create folders and subfolders. In android's settings->storage menu, my external sdcard is shown as it has only 29.5GB (out of 59GB) but nothing about partitions.
Is this a permission issue (platform.xml)? Can it be fixed?

I don't know what your issue is, maybe because one partition is the primary partition. Did you choose all the same options when you set the second partition?
What android version are you using? Lollipop and Marshmallow do have permission configurations that are a pain, especially concerning extsd permissions.
I'll see what I can find, can't promise I'll find you an answer though.
The partitions' settings are identical, with the sole exception that one has to be the primary one. The microsd is new and tested with a few software programs to be sure it's not a fake (it's not).
I'm using AOSP 5.1.1 and yes, I believe there is a L permission issue.
Don't worry a bit regarding this issue. If you or someone else will find the solution, it'll be great, if not, life goes on.
Thanks anyway for taking your time!
