on wireless at home, everything seems to be working for me, no issues browsing or playing. this is awesome!!!!

Netflix already killed it. They blocked access to the streaming server. It was great while it lasted for all of 4 hours.

Damn! They banned it right before ugly to test it.
Myn 2.2 RLS5

Why do we not have this on android? Why did they ban it?

Ya know...the thing that bothers me the most, is that I'm a paying member of netflix, and my Evo 4G is perfectly adequate to stream movies...has anyone heard why they would kill this?

Heh, I got to post two and downloaded it. Then I read further after i logged in and got denied lol.

smh @ netflix for deading it.....hopefully this means they are working it... who knows, by the time its ready for us, the evo3d will be getting released... lol

So what do you think is gonna happen do you think who ever made this app useable is just gonna work his magic again and get it to work again?

It is because of DRM issues. Android 2.2 does not have the necessary DRM restrictions to keep the evil movie studios happy. They won't let Netflix stream to our devices until they are sure we can't steal their content. It's a google/netflix problem and until they straighten out the DRM to the movie studios satisfaction we won't be getting it.

This is true... movie studios are horrible.. i work in Digital Cinema and you have no idea how many licenses and Keys and security is needed to just play a single movie.
All this protection for their movie from not being stolen, and yet it will not stop the projectionist with a HD camera on the booth
Not to mention the leaks out on the net..
I think as the internet becomes faster studios will realize to just release the content and add their commercials in to get their revenue..
This is the fight i have with co-workers and their Iphones. I make sure i tell them when the new flash comes out...

dude i hear ya. aside from the drm issues, it seems droid is always the last to get the mainstream apps. Netflix would complete this phone from a multimedia platform.

is the app working legally on any android device???

This still pisses me off and the thread has been dead for a while now, I Googled it again, but couldn't find any new info...has anyone heard anything at all?

Netflix WORKS - sort off...
I tried the Netflix app on my Rooted Evo running Fresh 4, it nearly played the video, but then it just refreshed and went back to the menu. I tried it on my Wife's unrooted Evo and it works flawlessly. Go figure!

Sweet! Running perfectly on my evo!
Can't wait to go to work on monday. Gonna be even more unproductive.

I'm glad to hear its working for you guys, pardon my ignorance but I am unsure about fresh, is it 2.2 or 2.3? I am going to nandroid back to my 2.2 and see if that makes a difference, can't really see root making a difference, I'm thinking its something to do with gingerbread.

[ROM-DEV-for-da-heck-of-it] Froyo SDK system image on Toast kernel

First, this is a "can it be done" thing, so don't expect things to work. The only thing that works is:
3G data - like, you can use the browser app and surf the web
Nothing else works! No audio, so no phone calls or playing audio files, no camera, etc.
This is a play ROM!!! Don't expect fixes for a while, or until official source is released on android.git.kernel.org.
Also, its a little laggy/slow due to using software only OpenGL.
Again, play ROM only!
http://depositfiles.com/files/b1oox6pyt
EDIT: 2010-05-21 05:43 UTC
darch has an updated ROM that runs faster, so play with that one:
http://darchroms.pocketdevelopers.com/darchroms/froyo-22.zip
Doubtful we'll get the mic working in this build, since the built config used forces a audio hardware "stub", and replacing the relevant libs did not do the trick. It was a good try, and the new launcher is neat, and the browser works well, but thats about it until Froyo source is released.
Oh Shats!!! The race has started!!!

If it's even possible, they will. They should have a good 6-12 months before Sprint/HTC give us an update...if they ever do.
Shrug..I'll be picking up an EVO on the 4th, so I guess I'll just wait for it to be ported to that. Still, having 2.2 running on my Hero would surely make it easier to sell.

To explain the negative feedback you've gotten thus far, porting to the Thunderbolt is far more complicated than to the Droid 1. The part of the OS that interacts with the radio is (as of yet) unique to the Thunderbolt and essentially has to be reverse-engineered. Slayher and toastcfh are working on a port of CM7 but it is an extremely difficult project for this reason. It's a whole different ballgame on this phone. Nothing to do with the amount of love for it. If there were no love for it, Slayher would not be working so hard to develop a port of CM7.
Who are you referring to? Verizon or the modding community? Verizon continues to hype their 4G network and the Thunderbolt with it. I'm sure HTC has Android 2.3.4 so we'll see what they do with it. The modding community has been pretty good about building off the most recent AOSP builds, but with the Thunderbolt having the 4G radio it has taken a little longer. Give it time. The OG Droid has been around much longer and more people own it than the Thunderbolt. As people upgrade you'll see more and more development for this phone. Personally I'm very happy with how quickly the Thunderbolt was rooted and how quickly devs started tweaking things.

Official updates? Probably not till later this summer and who knows if it will be 2.3.3 or 2.3.4. We'll likely see if in CM 7 long before an official OTA

Considering the fact that this phone has barely been out for a month and a half i think the dev is going pretty good. I think that's why people are giving you crap for this post.
There's a few threads on getting 2.3 working on the thunderbolt so its a wip at this point. Htc is supposed to release 2.3 "soon" anyways.

Hey, don't knock the OG Droid. That was a great little phone. It was my first Android phone.
The only reason I made my comment is because all the OP needed to do was click on TB development to see all the ROMs and support for this device. For only being out a month, there's a crazy amount of support.
OG Droid still rocks, I have one in front of me.
But dude obviously doesn't remember the wait for 2.1 on the OG.
put a nice silicone cover on it (sexual references meant) then show it love!
Only then can it be shown proper love .... lol
Sorry had this coming <<<<<
Anyway The Devs Are Doing The Thunderbolt Much Justice and are working and slaving for this device so there showing the love

Netflix works on the Tab!!!

This post here.
Overcome 2.0 Beta 1. Not tested on anything else yet.
Enjoy
um, no...it does not. then, after edititing the build prop file, trying to fool netflix to think im htc vision (g2) still i get the same device error. this trick must have been patched already.
edit, apologies for the lack of details
cm7 2.3.4 gets detected by netflix and stops me at the device not supported pop up.

It's working on my gTab... I am currently watching Battlestar Galactica.

I believe wifi tabs have different hardware then 3g ones. Build prop could be one fix but I think there might be a hardware check or something that is preventing video for some.

SO i take it, Netflix only works on GSM overcome Roms...Sprint tab rooted with original Rom does not work. The screen just disappears when you log in. SMH at Google. To many software/hardware versions for any company to make a app right.
i ment in like australia..
Works fine with the new Gingerbread ROM on Tmo US.
another +1 on overcome 2.0 (2.3.3) i havnt had much time to test but it loads and plays. ill see in the next couple days how it works without wifi. at home it seems to be all well.
comming from technomancer's cm7 port overcome is MUCH MUCH smoother, cleaner, faster and has none of the issues i used to have with cm...but thats what you get with ports that arent updated regularly. the older overcome worked well, but i chose cm7 because of the settings and such, and back a couple months ago there wasnt THAT big of a diff (and cm is whats on my g2...so i thought id prefer it) now after using the latest 2.0 i cant believe how well this tab functions now.
so, netflix made me switch roms, and it works!!...but i got a bonus surprise with how well overcome really is.
very good day for my tablet!
Works perfectly on my us tmobile tab with overcome beta 1 and 2.3.3! Picture quality is very crisp. Streams with no lag
Works so well that I was on the phone with netflix yesterday and was telling the guy on the phone about it, info on 2.3.3.
and the the netflix app in his email got me 6 free months of service via coupons.
Awsome!

Also I think its funny that one of my other devices is actually supported and it doesnt work on it! Rather watch it on the tab anyways.
does not work on att stock rom.

Looking for the honesty please...

As you can see in my sig, I am on a Cappy with Gingerbread and a rom that is working magnificently. I have my Cappy setup exactly the way I like it and Netflix works like a charm. As a matter of fact, I am going on a business trip next week and look forward to chillin in the airport with my earbuds in watching a movie on the Cappy...
that said, I had really been looking forward to the Infuse. I was going to give it a week and pick it up tomorrow. Then I started browsing the new forum yesterday and noticed that some of you are reporting issues. Netflix also doesn't work. I was really looking forward to the front facing camera among other things... If I was to ask advice (and I would really like your advice), I would imagine some will tell me to just wait until an update comes out or the dev section really gets going. Any thoughts? Thanks for sharing.
I cant speak for the Cappy, but in the last 2 months I went from the iPhone 4, to the Atrix, to the Inspire, to the Infuse.
The Infuse is now my favorite phone that I have ever owned. It has the best of all of them combined.
Yes there are a few bugs, no there is no roms yet, but we all know that will come in the not far future. Get one now, and you'll get to enjoy it a little longer

Camera is very, very good. See engadget's review if u don't believe me.
GPS - flawless. When you're on the trip - ur cappy will make u furious driving around wasting time and getting tickets (been there, done that, sold that piece of ****)
Netflix - no idea, don't care
It's huge. Thing is a shovel, just attach a handle.
Screen - amazing, SAMOLED Plus, need I say more?
Battery life - so far crappy, but it's not broken in yet. Supposed to be better, since it's 1750mah.
Also, more RAM, enough to keep my Opera, couple of HD games and some apps open without need to reopen them when Android clears RAM.
Definite upgrade over craptivate. That phone was sweet, but non-existent GPS on it killed it for me. Stupid thing made me spend $$ driving around like an idiot.
Warning: I'm easily influenced by positive responses and may end up leaving for my business trip Monday with an Infuse in tow.
Just what I was looking for... Thanks for the responses thus far.

No Netflix no problem! Download the PlayOn app on your phone and PC. Free trial is 14 days, after its $4.99 a month. It automatically detects configuration on your pc allowing you to stream on 3g/4g. Best thing about playon is not only does it stream Netflix and and anything you want from your PC (music videos pics) it also has hulu integration! You can watch any hulu video just as you would in Netflix. Not thru a broswer but thru a deticated app. Quality is magnificient most hulu is in HD. There's even plugins so you can watch most network shows, NBC, FOX, CBS ect. Try it out! You won't be disappointed!

2. Massive screen. 4.5. i thought the HD2 was the biggest i would of ever gone. Super Amoled screen.
3. thinest smartphone. 'nough said.
4. it snappy, very snappy. i thought my atrix was fast with its dual core... this phone easily out paces the atrix in everyday use.
5. Touchwiz. the only custom UI that i have seen that does not slow down the phone like sense or motoblur.
6. 8MP camera. this phone carrier a really good lens on its back. i took dissection pictures of my cat at school. they look real nice. i would upload but idk the rules so yeah.
7. Long long battery life. well for me at least. this was under high usage texting music pictures and other stuff. words with friends... angry birds... you know.
thats pretty much it i guess. its a really good choice. and a really great phone. you will like it.

we have a samsung chipset. but it works on samsung with gingerbread. so no worries.
I also have a Cappy....actually use it now for my "work" phone, and have my new baby as my personal phone. I absolutely love the new infuse. Have been running custom roms like cm7, paragon, ff, you name it I've tried it... and loving this stock infuse more, than the Cappy any day. Its everything the Cappy should have been out of the box.

oh yeah true dat. hmmm idk who told me it had a qualcomm. oh well. same difference right?
it is too easy to get sucked into the rom frenzy with the cappy. and then the power of suggestion that the phone is laggy and such creates this striving for improvement constantly. i know i was there. my oppinion is that the cappy is not as bad as it is made out to be if you leave it basically stock. the infuse however doesnt the shortcomings of the cappy. it has both camera, a flash, unknown sources, bigger screen, better audio vs the cappy stock(slightly). same audio hardware, but better implimented or newer drivers. and the gps hardware is not marginalized. i have come to find out that tracking in google maps can be funky on any phone but with the cappys hardware it was a nightare untill you got the jupiter.xml all corrected and played with the settings.
the infuse is good out of the box but after putting some of my known good settings from the captivate in it was great. but then after trying agps settings full time it was phenomenal! this really is the best gps i have seen. it seems the hardware layout is changed. the gps seems to work during phone calls(didnt on the cappy, god forbid you are driving and someone calls you) as does the camera.
i got laughed at when i complained about photos in phone calls in the captivate section no one would work on it, now id bet it is a hardware limitation. now if im on speaker phone with someone who doesnt have video calling i can just text them pictures

There And Back Again (my trip to the Nexus S from Inspire 4G)

Shame on me.
2 weeks ago I've seen on the Google's homepage "Nexus S a pure Google experience" I clicked and long story short I decided to buy (for $0 of course, the 'only for today' strategy got me..) a Nexus S... at first I was very very very Happy... Frontal camera, video calls with skype, google videos, Gingerbread, NETFLIX (!!!)...
I wasn't really thrilled about the size of the screen... sensibly smaller than the Inspire although the resolution was the same, and the colors... the nexus' screen's colors are kinda yellowish...
I was so happy about the new features though that I've ALMOST sold my Inspire! Then right before selling it my Nexus fully charged during the night dies in my pocket at 4 in the afternoon... A sign from god... I started noticing the abnormal battery consumption and I open my eyes..
Long story short... I m now selling my Nexus S and keeping my Inspire... Using the Inspire after 2 weeks feels like a million dollars.. but now I really miss google videos and netflix!
Does anybody know how to get them on Inspire?? Apparently neither of them are compatible.... BS i say...
Netflix works fine on the latest Gingerbread update for Inspire. I don't know about google videos.
netflix works fine..

So does video calls with Skype, just no FFC, and the GB update was rolled out a couple weeks ago. I know google videos won't work with rooted devices, but I don't know about the stock Inspire ROM
Hold on... why and how Google video is not allowed on rooted phones (i have stock rooted)??
Also the GB update isn't unstable still?
Tnx so much for the netflix app!

Well when I searched for articles I've found that this has already been taken care of (as of 8/7) by devs at sdx-developers.com

cool. i should stay on top of these things better...
here's an article about them originally blocking it. And it is still blocked to rooted phones unless you install the modded .apk

You are the bomb!
It works fine thanks so much... Although if we want to be picky it doesn't change the market layout which remain full of 'holes'...
Google f*ck up this time...

yea - no disagreement here.
And just realized I missed your question about the stability of the GB update - I hadn't heard anything about it being unstable. I'm currently running virtuous unity v 1.33 (GB 2.3.4), which is in Beta, and seems incredibly stable to me. There are other GB ROMs that have been out for a WHILE that are also incredibly stable. If you're already running stock rooted, then you have root and guessing you're s-off, why not flash a custom GB ROM?
Oh no i meant the OFFICIAL one... I tried various roms and the only one I feel confortable with on the Inspire is the stock with sense and stock radio... So when I heard about the official GB update I was very happy... instead it's full of major bugs.. shame.
I will wait till they fix the update and somebody cooks the original rom... I'm not really a Sense fan but it performs very well on their devices...

Yes I noticed... I was reading the 62 pages of your thread and you are a damn rock... they threw anything at you ... I'm at page 18, it's quite gripping, better than hbo series lol... XD
BTW I'm gonna download it and report my opinion... I'm hard to change ROM and get too far from the stock/ish ones and this seems what i was looking for..
Anyho... I will keep reading... If you need some customized graphic I'm a (decent) designer... LMK.
