So I have the the Sprint HTC Arrive (aka. the HD7 Pro) and I have taken it apart to see where the memory is located at. If there was a slot where the memory card could be ejected from, it would right in between the +/- Volume Buttons. Just remember that opening your phone will void your warranty, but here are the pictures I took. It has a 16GB Class 4 Sandisk micro SD card. The slot is not spring loaded so to remove the memory card you just pull it out. I will be testing out if a 32GB Class 10 or Class 2 will work perfectly on it since its running a 16GB Class 4.....

Great find and post further investigation needed. Pls keep us posted.
Pardon my stupidity (still on my first cup of Joe) but would the current classes of 32GB cards still be slower spec'd than the 16GB? I'm having a brain fart and can't remember, or I would swap mine out right now just for grins. I wouldn't have an issue hard resetting right now anyway...
Where are the additional pics? I have all my screws out but can't seem to get the plastic cover off the back!
EDIT: Got it!
please keep us updated...I have the arrive also and I would love to upgrade to 32gb!
as far as i know, the memory card on the 7 pro is close to the speaker, so they must have changed the layout a little. doesn't really make a difference though
Can you post a step by step.
Can you post a step by step how to do this. When you figure it out. I would like more memory in my Arrive. Thank.
1. remove the 4 small screws under the battery cover (one on the top left is under a black warranty sticker)
2. remove the odd ball big screw on the lower left; just use a flat-head and slowly turn about 45degree at a time, it is pretty easy
3. use your fingernails or tools to take out the plastic cover (it only actually covers the side of the phone), you will find another cover with 6 more screws that actually covers the back of the phone
4. remove those screws, and the lift the back cover (unlike the side cover, this one just sits on top, and not snapped onto anything)
5. the sdcard is on the right side, next to where the volume buttons are
6. to remove the sdcard, you will need to peel the yellow tape up enough so it is no longer sticking to the sdcard, then just wiggle it out (no eject mechanism)
7. no pictures, the phone is my camera

I was about to post the instructions but you got it just right, was really easy to take apart. I have a 32GB Sandisk Class 2 and a 32GB Lexar Class 10 tried both and both are working fine.... stuck with the Lexar and good so far! I did feel that loading apps or music with the Lexar Class 10 was a bit faster.

do you think a 64gb would work like this one:
Transcend 64 GB Class 10 SDXC Ultra Speed 25MB/S Flash Memory Card TS64GSDXC10
what model # sd cards have you used that worked please? I want to order something off of amazon and I want to get one that I know will work.
thanks!!
Q
No, it won´t work, it isn´t microsd
I'm now w/32 GB in my HTC Arrive. I'll post a blog post about it soon enough with better pics. Until then, a few tips:
* Do a hard reset on your device before you begin. Goto Settings -> About and click Reset. Don't take the chance of an existing install corrupting (WP7 requires a hard reset when changing the flash card).
* Use a medium flat-head screw driver at a sharp 45 to 55 degree angle to get a bit on that tri-wing screw on the back and turn it.
* Remember, there are 4 screws you need to remove. One of them is hidden under a small black label. This is how the manufacturer knows that you have tampered with the device. You simply push down with your tiny phillips, and your screw driver will melt through and you can turn it.
* Let your fingernails grow for about a week. Use your thumb and start at the keyboard area to pop things loose. Work your way around to where the display attachs. Easy peasy.
Please note that I had issues at first with this upgrade. I'm now ordering the Sandisk 32 GB Class 4 card now (Class 2 are sold as Class 4).
See attached pics.
I'm thinking of doing this upgrade. Would someone that has done it tell me if there truly is an increase in performance or if the hardware of phone still bottlenecks the read and write speeds? Thanks.

You don't do it for an increase in performance. You do it for the increase in size.
Stick to only the Sandisk microSDHC 32 GB Class 4. Nothing else.
The important part is random access times, not read/write. Makers sacrafice random access times in order to increase read/write (e.g. class).
My Wintect Class 10 is such a card. Random access times is horrible, but it does 20 MB/s as promised. I've ordered a Sandisk 32 GB card now.

(the microSD was intentionally moved 1 mm away to show the edges)
seems like there was going to be support for microSD, but in the end they decided not to do it
someone said in a thread in the accessories section that one of the NS cases they bought had what seemed like a slot in the side to remove and insert an SD card, so maybe?
Isn't that where the NFC chip is located, hence the prongs? Or is the chip entirely in the back case?

the prongs connects to the back cover that have some sort of Antennae or flat Speaker
i'll say it's Antennae as the speaker is already in the back
look at the picture (an my totally worn out space bar on the keyboard ), the 2 gold/copper contacts and the rectangle shape that it's attached to

Yeah, according to the teardown on iFixit(http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus-S-Teardown/4365/1), that rectangle on the back is the NFC module so those contacts run into the chip on the motherboard.
So, then I suppose, the question becomes did Google have to choose between microSD support or NFC?
but look at the back cover, it does also have the hole where the microSD was supposed to go
but you are right on that question, it might have came down to the choice of this or that...
i wonder if there's any hardware hack, to install the microSD support for ourself
in the end the fact is it doesnt have an SD card so we gotta deal with what we got, I for one dont really care, I hate to do this but the iphone doesnt have an SD card, that isnt a big deal is it?

Ultimately, I agree. However, if I had been given a choice between NFC and a microSD card if that is indeed what it came down to, I probably would have chosen the latter. 16gbs is far more than enough space for me. I recently wiped my SD partition which was barely a gig simply because it was becoming too cluttered (left over folders from apps I no longer used, old NAND backups that weren't my ohshitstock fallback, just generally outdated stuff, et al.
I highly doubt I will ever fill up the space entirely as I'm not one who insists on walking around with my entire mp3 collection, both Star Wars trilogies, and/or my family photographic/videographic history just because I think I should be able to. Lol
here is another close up, of the back cover with the perfect fit with extra room on both side of the microSD

according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_field_communication
NFC has a way shorter distance than Bluetooth and less data rate.
so... what's the future to provide NFC support?
and the radio frecuency used is very low, as in easy to face interference issues.
heck even a R/C car can break havoc to a NFC

Sort of like the folks on the Vibrant forums installed a FFC? Or the physical Galaxy S GPS fix?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I thought the Nexus S is using a new Ext4 partition or something. If I were you, I'd return the NS for a GS and throw 2.3 on it. Hell of a lot easier than what you're talking about doing.
There are numerous reasons to get rid of the removable storage.
1) Move to the cloud and don't worry about local storage
2) More reliable hardware if you can standardize on the assembly line
3) More security, Less attack vectors (rootin n1 with sd card hack)
4) Easier to test the recent switch to ext 4 by removing variables
5) Less moving parts
6) Faster data access

That would be like what the Vibrant did.
But Nexus S has better OS, NFC, and everything else seems slightly better out of the box.
The rest of the SGS series seems to have poor QA, and software wise is always playing a catch up game

yes, in a similar fashion, but instead of installing a FFC, we install a microSD slot
the challenge on this side project is to find a microSD mount that fits into that hole in the compartment, and match the soldering pins in the motherboard.
No one is gonna be "adding" a micro sd slot like a FFC was added. It's an entirely different situation. With the ffc was just pulled. In this case the pcb is new:
oh well, there goes the idea.
i can see it has no space nor any point of contacts to mount the microSD
seems like they really had to choose either or scenario as mentioned above
NFC vs. microSD
this is what i was talking about in a previous post about how the case had a space for an SD card
Look guys, it doesn't have internal Micro SD, this is all pure NAND, no SD trickery like WP7... Google made this a dev device, and they wanted to give devs a feature of Gingerbread, virtual SD card compartments. They wanted you to use the virtual SD card for transfer, it's a feature for Gingerbread, so devices with no SD card can work better with Froyo's apps to sd. It's very basic, and they did want to cut costs, wouldn't they have used just an internal SDHC 16gig micro SD card? They just didn't put one, end of discussion.
I ordered a 32GB SanDisk MicroSD card for my Desire HD from a cheap ebay seller. He seemed to have ok feedback and the picture showed the Micro SD card in the standard red SanDisk retail packaging. I paid around 20-22 bucks. I later got a message from ebay saying they had removed the listing due to the owners copyright infringement / fraud and sayed if I had paid they highly recommended I seek a refund. I am still waiting on my case with paypal dispute. Hopefully all will come good there. Just the other day I received the card from China or Hong Kong. It's obviously got different print to "real" SanDisk MicroSD cards I've bought and it came without the retail red packaging. The card didn't work at all in the SD card adapter when put into my laptop running Windows 7. My Cannon SD870 IS Digital Elph camera did recognise the card. I low level formatted the card on the camera and still the SD card adapter on the laptop didn't want to use the card. A USB adaptor worked enough to format the card. I did a full lengthy format. Copying 30GB or so of .mp3s to the card resulted in only most mp3s not playing.

-Headphones
-Bluetooth Headsets
-Mobile phone batteries
In general all of the above will be fake. I have ordered at least one of all of those things on ebay and not a single one has been genuine.
Yeah i got a 32gb sd card from ebay, fake
Got my money back via paypal protection, didnt have to bother returning the item either since they kicked the guy from ebay.
i think the cards around 4gb was copying at like 800 kbs not really worth me finding out how to sort it out so that it shows up as a 4gb.
Any recommendations on cards/cheap place to get them. 16gb class 4 is £15.99 at mymemory but their out of stock at the moment also you can get 10% cashback via quidco.

Try to copy stuff to them and monitor the transfer rate, then compare with:
Class 2, 2 MB/s.
Class 4, 4 MB/s.
Class 6, 6 MB/s.
Class 10, 10 MB/s.
These are minimum sustained write speeds.

I ordered my Sandisk 32gb c2 from a normal webshop since I don't trust those ebay super-fantastic-discount deals. Write speeds are always above 5MB/s so I am pretty chuffed with it.

Bought this exact card from your recomendation, thanks for that.
Thing is the write speed is around 2.5 Mb/s and towards the end of a file it drops down to 700Kbs half the time.
It's not the biggest deal in the world, but their are times when i need to drop a quick tv show or film on my dhd and it just takes its sweet time :S
Could it be a faulty card? should i speak to Dane-Elec. Didnt format the card when i got it, should i do that now? its fat 32 if that helps.
Hello,
I want to buy sandisk 32gb from ebay. And there's no sd card images with code and "made in china" on it, on ebay. Then i checked sandisk website, sd card images are without codes and "made in china". So Im a little bit confused now.
What do you think about this one ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/San-Disk-...AsAccessories_MemoryCards&hash=item4ab3348993
most hardware is made in china these days
my complete pc says "made in china" and i bought it all from local stores...not even off the internet
Thanks for answer, but i was talking about image that has beed posted in first page .:
In ebay all sd cards images are without those codes and there's not written "made in chine" as it should be in genuine card. But in sandisk website those card photos are without codes and without "made in china"
Is this one reliable and genuine ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/San-Disk-...AsAccessories_MemoryCards&hash=item4ab3348993
What do you think about this one? I think i should buy this one.

128gb is huge. Can't justify how I would need that size. Sticking with my 64gb for now. But good to know new technology is coming out.
I'm getting close to filling my current 64GB microSDXC card, so I'm really glad to see that the 128GB card is now available. Given my current rate of music collection expansion, I'll be buying one of these in about six months or so. It's hard not to just jump on the Amazon deal now, but I figure it doesn't hurt to wait and will allow Samsung to fix any possible roll-out bugs in the cards.

I don't like needing to delete stuff constantly to make room for other stuff. It doesn't usually matter in the short term, but over long periods of time, I'm always wishing I hadn't deleted something I didn't think I'd need. That's why I save every single text message I send, back them up, and upload that backup to my drop box, which I've got 75 gigs of space free... And unlimited data plan, so it's basically an online sd card....
I love more space. I just don't like how long they are taking to release. They can probably fit a terabyte on a micro sd card now. If not a micro, then a regular sdcard for sure. But they'll release them one by one, in 64gb increments till infinity.

Apparently that cover over the card can be removed with no problems? Haven't tried any of this myself. I'm looking for the pic of the guy who had it under the stock cover but it's buried somewhere in the Note 2's "post pics of your case" thread.

128gb is huge. Can't justify how I would need that size. Sticking with my 64gb for now. But good to know new technology is coming out.

If you are the type who likes to watch HD Movies on their phones, or constantly experiments with their phones and regularly makes Nandroid Backups, even a 64Gb Card will become insufficient.

Just Google "sd to microsd converter : dx.com"
6 bucks. I've found back covers and protective cases that will house this easy. And possibly a bigger battery as well, since that's what those covers are for....IF there's room above the battery and below the camera, for the converter. Idk though. I'll have to get my hands on the converter, then go to world of wireless to check out battery's and back covers. I don't think I'd mind my s4 feeling a bit more thick/heavy.
Def doable. And for a lot less then even a 64gb micro.
It's odd this product isn't more well known. That must be the retailers trying to hide it from the public by not producing it or selling it in their stores. For about 26 bucks, plus the cost of a reg sd card, you can have 4 times the space widely thought as currently available.

Was just asking if @officerdoofy could let us know what his 128gb card is like once he receives it as he's already ordered up.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
That will cost some money. and probably replace my external hard drive and have all the movies with me, and also use foldermount to install thousands of games.
Moving files to the sd will take longer than using all of the data in it...
Modern technology is just awesome. how do they make such a small thing with 128gb.
I could easily fill a 2TB SD card with music and movies if there were such a thing and it was affordable. I much prefer local storage to some remote data store controlled by somebody else, aka the "cloud". Would be awesome to be able to carry my entire media library in my phone without needing any other devices or even a data connection, and be free to watch or listen to anything I wanted at any time, rather than deciding ahead of time what to transfer to the phone. But 128GB is a great step in the right direction.
I got my mine on Saturday. Writing at around 10-15MB/s.
Can anyone who has the pro please confirm if there is SD card support ? It should be within one of the receptacle trays that are used for the dual Sims.
It seems their is conflicting information on the official sites and some reviews of Porsche design variant that share the same chassis indicate there is no SD card slot or support.
There is no SD for the pro variant. A friend of mine got it thinking GSM arena listed it had. Once it arrived it didn't so he is now selling the pro to get the normal mate.

This is what the slot looks like if anyone is wondering, i dont think you can put an sd card in there, as someone mentioned.
EDIT: Picture is from PD version, just checked the Pro and it's the same
Thanks guys, the confirmation is appreciated.
Knew the PD varient didn't have one but had hoped they had just hobbled it with single sim restrictions and that the international pro version would SD storage enabled.
Why can't we ever find that truly ideal phone......
I wonder why the 'Pro' would have a smaller screen, and no SD capability. I was excited to see it coming only to be disappointed.
On top of that, no Verizon capability. I'm thinking of moving over to them. I had thought the international would support it, but no luck.
Sorry, I guess I just felt the need to whine.

I know..
I checked Sony xz today and it has a similar slot but an SD card fits instead of the second SIM, that's a smarter design for sure

Yup, I'm returning my Pro. It's an odd design choice. It doesn't seem that there are any advantages to the Pro in the storage department. The SIM cards function the same from what I can tell and the Pro removes the micro SD card slot for no apparent reason.
I think Huawei wanted the OLED (or perhaps even more specifically the curved screen) but couldn't get a decent 6" display and had to settle for the smaller display.

Is the XZ dual SIM like Huawei's? The XZ has cut so many corners with odd decisions though. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Less RAM, less storage space and much slower storage too. Still suffers from poor camera performance, displays need to be improved, fingerprint scanner disabled in the US due to patent issues and poor placement too. Lots of proprietary tech that gets disabled permanently if bootloader is unlocked. Their release cadence of 6 months is too fast as well. They should move to a yearly release and stop making so many blunders and make a great device for once which would mean we get one great device per year instead of two bad ones. But oh well. Their loss, not mine. I'll end my rant here

It has almost the same design of sim tray except for the fact that the second sim is perpendicular and you can place a micro sd instead.
I didn't like the phone overall either, however it's not a bad device at all. For my the huawei pro/pd is much better than any android right now.

The regular Mate 9 has dual SIM and micro SD through their hybrid tray design so that's why it's odd that the Pro does not. Dunno if it's space constraints. Maybe the hybrid tray requires additional components around the tray that can't fit with the 4000 mAh battery and smaller body.
additional storage in Huawei Mate 9 Pro
Really? Just get the 6GB & 128 GB model. You need more space? Buy a USB Type C microSD adapter. I am using a microSD with an additional 128gb to store songs and others.
Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting the Samsung evo + u3 128gb or the sandisk ultra uhs-i 200gb.
Which of these cards would work perfectly for the note 9? I have read from somewhere that the note 9 can't fully utilize the speed of the Samsung evo +.
I would like to store my media on the card and 4k footage recorded should be stored directly into the card.
Thanks for the input.
I'm using the Sandisk 400GB and it's been flawless so far.
Go for a Samsung Evo + class 10 high end card. I have a 65 gig one and transfer speed and durability are excellent. They're only 20 bucks. I've had many problems over the years with other brands.
I have the same Sandisk Ultra 128GB Micro SDXC that I've used since I had my S7 and it works great. Only $27 on Amazon.
Same here, I use the Sandisk Ultra 128GB
I still use the 256gb Samsung that came with the note 7, works like a champ. I am waiting for the Samsung 512gb to come out, so I can have the 1tb total.

Thanks guys for the recommendation. I finally pulled the trigger on the Samsung evo + 128gb. Been using the same sandisk 64gb since my galaxy s3 days ( about 7 years) just need to upgrade the size . 128 + 128 in total seems about right.
However, the Note9 can't achieve the ideal speed of 90mbps write speed for this card.
If you have the extra cash I'd jump on this one right now. I'm using it and it's performing flawlessly.

90mb is about 11MB/s. Read will always be faster. Write takes longer. It is 2018 and I don't understand why people still don't understand this. But there are many people that believe the Earth is flat in 2018.

I guess you all missed the 400GB Sandisk for $99 on Amazon. I was trying to hold out for Samsung or SanDisk to come out with their 512GB micro SD card but realized it will probably be 12-18 months before price comes down to a palatable level so I settle for the 400GB for $100.
Best???? Well the 256GB HyperX Gaming uSD card... But only by a tiny margin (Claimed speeds: 100MB/s read speeds, 80MB/s write speeds):

Yeah that's actually a great deal. I think it's even marked down and it's Black Friday so...
Also have this one and love it
Also, using Samsung Evo 128.
Wish i could have purchased the 512 gb samsung sdcard on their website with my note 9, not fair why we cant get one for that same price for early preorders
Just curious, and to get ideas, guys. What reasons do you have for getting such large SD cards, perhaps lots of photos/videos? Currently still using my old 32Gb SD card from my Note 4 and still works well for backups and photos, plus w/ the Note 9's 128Gb, I've barely reached half. Where do you guys use it for, perhaps I may find some more usefulness for it and get a new, larger one. Thanks.

Exactly that. Videos, photos, music and documents. I rather have it on my device than access through the cloud.

Some people just consume more media and need more space for media than others. Games these days are also quite heavy for storage so they can eat up your internal pretty easily. And just to add to what @DarkManX4lf has said, some users would rather not be at the mercy of data coverage to access cloud storage. Having your media and other files on hand 24/7 regardless of data/WiFi coverage is a valuable option.
If your usage habits currently don't necessitate the use of a large Micro SD card then I don't see the point in replacing the one you have now.

I now use my cell more than my desktop/laptop. I can go an entire week or so without getting on there. So between it being my main computer at home, work, car, etc and also needing extra space for Gear VR games/media, the larger card is well used.
