Would somebody explain "Flashing a Zip" - Droid X Themes and Apps

I have rooted. I've run the bootstrap apk and now have a "droid bootstrap" icon in my apps.
I guess im supposed to run it,but it doesn't have a "flash zip" menu selection so im short a bit of knowledge.

The flashing zips isnt "within" the app when you open it. Open the app and then hit the top button. This will hijack the boot process. Then press on "success" when it comes up. Then press "reboot recovery". This will reboot your phone into the hijacked recovery and allow you to do a full backup of your phone. Use the volume up/down keys to.navigate and the camera button to select. Go to backup/restore, then backup.
See my guide for more info:

Thx for stoppin by. I've actually read your guide about 20 times So I do what you said and I'm "backed up"...well, thats gotta be good, but I STILL don't see how I flash the 2.3.340deodex.zip that deodex's me.

You simply use the bootstrapper app to boot into recovery and select install zip from SD card then choose zip then navigate to the zip then select it then press yes

Got it.thx

[XT720] Flash Player attempts...

Ok, I'm trying to find some way to install Flash Player on XT720 running Eclair.
I read this thread about flash on EVO 4G (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695965)
And this thread about flash on Spica (http://forum.samdroid.net/f28/howto-flash-spica-browser-too-1688/)
And tried to do the same with my XT720.
It failed.
1) I downloaded flash_for_21.apk and installed it with appInstaller (my initial attempt). It installed, I rebooted. No flash.
2) I downloaded flashupdate.zip and FlashPlugin.apk and put it in sdcard root directory.
3) I put my XT720 in recovery mode, here's how:
Recovery mode
- Turn Off Phone.
- Press and hold "View Gallery Mode" Key and Power Key together to Power On the phone until the recovery screen show up (with the /!\ sign).
- Press Volume Up + "Take Photo" Key to show the recovery menu
- Use Volume Up/Down Keys to navigate and "Take Photo" Key to select stuff on the menu.
Click to collapse
4) I selected "apply sdcard:update.zip", it says "E:signature verification failed. Installation aborted"
5) I went back into Android and renamed flashupdate.zip to update.zip
6) Went back into recovery mode, tried it again. Still same error.
7) I used appInstaller to install FlashPlugin.apk, and then I moved FlashPlugin.apk from /sdcard/ to /system/app
8) Checked with whatismyflash.com, didn't work
As I understand this only works with "HTC-devices", what probably means sense system installed. The already installed flashlite-framework could be used with this changed (full)flash-apk.

This is pretty much what happens. The framework is already there for devices with Sense, so it basically replaces flash lite in this case. Same thing with the Galaxy phones.
Don't bother with that thing. If u wanna see flash videos, just use SkyFire browser

HELP, unrooted my cap, with cognition rom flashed!

I unrooted my phone click "unroot" using original OCLF thinking i didn't need this app anymore being i rooted the phone using usb and one click root when i flashed the cognition rom. Now i actually unrooted the phone and i uninstalled the original oclf and the new version does not let you root. How do i reroot my device? When i follow steps to reroot it has a red screen when im in reboot menu, i believe it is voodoo lag fix gives me many option but i use the power button to select reboot phone since i do not know what to do. Please help thanks!!
hmmm. You can search for root options on 2.2. You xan asks back everything up and reflash the rom.

how do i reflash if i cant even root my phone tho? when i try to use one click root, the phone goes into boot menu but all letters are red, and talks about voodoo lag fix, i will try again and post all the options that the phone gives
Disable lagfix, select install zip from sd in recovery. You do not need root to flash a rom as long as you have clockwork recovery. The red recovery will work

ok obviously i'm still kinda new to this, i somewhat understand what you mean, is there anyway you can give me better directions in steps? I know you are using your phone, thanks for the quick responses. how do you disable lag fix, and the rest of the steps?
Disable lagfix
Boot phone to on
Go to my files app
Look for voodoo folder
Inside voodoo folder create a new folder named disable-lagfix
Reboot, you will hear the voices.
flash rom
Make sure rom is on your sd
Long press power button
Select recovery
Once in recovery select install zip from sd
Then select choose zip or something like that
Find the cognition rom
Select
Select again
It is likely when the rom boots voodoo will still be disabled
To re enable go back to voodoo folder on sd, open, delete disable-lagfix folder, reboot. You will hear the voices

ok i used one click root to force root file that i renamed, it then rebooted phone to a red menu, "clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.3 - voodoo lagfix" options are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sd card
backup and restore
advanced
voodoo lagfix
go back...
Can i select install zip from sdcard from here, is that what you were meaning?
Also on a different note, i have the xda app how do you get notifications from my post?
The rom works fine, so do i need to flash it again, or is this the method i will need to flash all over again to be able to root?

Ok please make sure the program you used is for 2.2. If so click apply sd card update zip.
I do not receive notifications, when I am bored and watching tv I am pretty much always playing around. If I am helping someone I am mindful to keep an eye out.
Edit. I love swype but sometimes the words it puts in there are crazy

Your said you did the One click root. Did the program specify for 2.2
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
the root method i download was from a thread with video and instructions on how to flash a rom from 2.1 to a custom froyo rom. so if i get this right, your saying i need a file that roots a 2.2 phone? so i need to find in xda one click root for 2.2 right?
Well thanks for being bored and being helpful.
yes swype does put in the weirdest words sometimes
any idea on a 2.2 rooting file? or search?
my biggest bugs with swype are with the words "want" always come up with wasnt. and a few others but "want" bugs me the most
http://www.multiupload.com/02RXSWORVC
Try this. I found it in a search. It should be a download of an update zip to root froyo.save to sd, select apply update.zip in recovery. Make sure file is named update.zip
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
ok, just want to get this right, copy file to internal sd, rename "update.zip" then reboot phone to menu right? holding volume buttons and power right? then select reinstall packages? or will it prompt me to select update.zip from sd card
ok , to your last post, how to get into recovery to select update.zip?

[ROM] (2/28/13) NANDROID Restore Stock FR 2.22 V10f / GB 2.33 V21e and 2.34 V21y

Stock Nandroid Restores for 2.22 Froyo and 2.33/2.34 GingerBreadfor T-Mobile G2x LG P999 only!
(These Nandroid restores are not rooted and are in complete stock condition.)
Instructions:
1. You must have ROM Manager installed and or ClockworkMod Recovery flashed and an external sdcard installed. Then have the directory and file contents of the "LG-P999-V10f.zip" or "LG-P999-V20e.zip" file extracted to your external SDCard in the /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/LG-P999-V10f directory. If the directory does not exist then create it.
There must be a directory called "LG-P999-V10f" or "LG-P999-V21e" or "LG-P999-V21y" in the "/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup" subdirectory and the files must be directly in that directory, not in another nested directory or Nandroid will not find the files. (Note: If you have any spaces in your directory name. You will get a md5 check some error.)

2. Run ROM Manager and choose Reboot into Recovery or boot phone into clockworkmod recovery.
3. In recovery go down to backup and restore, choose restore.
4. Select LG-P999-V10f or LG-P999-V21e or LG-P999-V21y and choose Yes - Restore.
5. When the restore finishes do not reboot yet. Do a "wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu (just to be thorough).
6. When it completes choose Reboot.

Just to clarify a bit. Drop the folder into clockworkmod/backup/ on your SD card. Made no sense when I first looked at the file path.
Tried this as a restore since my connectivity still sucks. I am getting a MD5 miss match. . . . What ever that means, I have no idea.

[GUIDE]Restoring apps+data for noobs with CWM

OK so I see alot of posts asking "how do I get my apps back after a flash?". Well here is a little something to get you all your apps and data back. For those who don't know all you need is cwm and a backup made before you flash. I'm assuming you already know how to get into and navigate through CWM. But if not( here is a link to get cwm, follow the op's instructions to install. All credit for cwm on sgs4g goes to krylon360. And to navigate cwm use the volume keys on the side of the phone to move up and down the list and the power button to select, always take care to select the right options in cwm before you ever confirm anything. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
SO LETS PROCEED.
1. Make a backup before you flash your rom.
2. Flash the rom and let it reboot and sit for about 10 to 15 minutes(so it can load your cache and dalvick cache)
3. Now that you have your new rom lets get those apps back. Reboot into recovery and reinstall packages to enter CWM.
A. Once in CWM navigate to "backup and restore" and then select "Advanced restore"
B. Once in advanced restore it will ask you to choose a backup to restore. So choose the backup you made prior to the flash or the most recent.
C. Now it will ask you what you would like to restore. Choose "data" and confirm let it do its thing and presto all your apps and data should be restored upon rebooting(fix permissions before rebooting)
(Fix permissions) To do this in CWM navigate to "Advanced" and confirm, in the next menu at the bottom select "fix permissions" and confirm. It will take a few seconds to do this.
There you go just reboot and enjoy. Also you can use titanium backup. I just find this to be so much easier.

Installing a newer rom version

Sorry to beat a dead horse but I have to ask. Ive receive some good advice on how to do this but I'm still not total clear on the procedure. I'm currently running infused 1.5 and would like to update to newest version. In lamins terms what are the exact steps. I've referanced the dev section but all I really see is how to install from stock. When I referenced the dev page I noticed and downloaded the full infused 1.5.2 and when I looked into root manager its listed as whitesmoke installer. If that's what I need than I suppose I need instructions from this point on. Thanks.

MUCH easier and faster way is simply go to free ROM Manager, go to gtg and download 1.5.0 to 1.5.2 update only which is under 3MB, then phone will auto reboot and install everything. Takes less than 2 minutes.
