Hey guys,
I've got a Transformer on the way, and when it arrives, I plan on installing all sorts of crap on it to figure out which apps I like best. Once I've determined that, I'd like to completely wipe my system clean and installing only the apps I liked best.
So my question is: how does one completely reset the system (complete filesystem wipe) and restore it to the way it was when I unboxed it.
you go into the bootloader and do factory reset.

Thanks, seshmaru. I'm glad it's that simple. This does wipe the cache and everything else, right?

I don't think it wipes cache, but I know a hard shutdown (holding power for 10~15 seconds) does wipe it.

Great! So a hard shut down (holding power for 10-15 seconds) followed by going into the bootloader (VOL_DOWN + POWER [continue holding VOL_DOWN when it starts booting until you get a prompt]) and doing a 'Data Wipe' should theoretically get me to a brand new state, right?
Yessir, it should.
Awesome. Thank you very much for the help.
You can also initiate it from the settings in android and it wipes all data you had put on it, leaving all system files, so it's like a fresh start.

Yeah this works. Just did it, wipes (all user) cache and data. settings/privacy/factory data reset. It took about 2mins.
I've try to do this but at the end when press VOL_UP the screen shows android logo with exhalation mark at middle of the logo.
Any idea for this?

once you see the words at the top left corner, if you push Vol up within about 5 sec you'll get the stock recovery which you are seeing. Do the same thing, Vol down plus power button but wait a tad bit till you see the reboot/clear data option.
Anyone can help me?
My sensation is boot in safe mode and i can't exit from this Mode.
How can i do?
I've change a lot of rom, i've tried to reboot a lot of time but it appear always "safe mode"!!
Only one time i've turned off my phone for 2 days withous the battery and it reboot in normal mode, but now i've reboot it and is in SAFE MODE!!!!
reboot the phone and when the htc logo appeared ..(splash screen ) ..just press the volume down button the whole time until OS loads ..then see
if not working then the volume down button might have got stuck ..which is making the phone to enter the phone in safe mode ..remove the back case then reboot and see
You didn't even help him at all
He just needs to reboot into recovery then wipe cache and dalvik cache and he's back to normal
I'm assuming he updated his firmware

if the volume down button not stuck ...then changing roms would have helped him..which he claimed he did (as he will do a full wipe..which includes the wipe of cache and dalvik too)..thats why i skipped that suggestion

Take the case off and check the actual button. The little black square if its stuck down you'll boot into safe mode... Try pressing the down button with the case on dose it click normally?

Hi, First of all i'd like to thank anyone who has spent their time to come and help me today..
Right my problem. So i've flashed my galaxy tab 2 GT-P3110 Wi-Fi (UK). I wish to know how to revert it back to the original settings (fresh out of the box)
i'll be honest, i'm not the best at of all this. The wife's not happy with what she got (i know right)
wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_2_7.0_(Wi-Fi):_Full_Update_Guide
i followed these steps accordingly. I managed to flash it into cyanogenmod first time. I just wish to go back ics
Any help will be greatly appreciated

You can wipe data/ factory reset after installing the stock firmware. Boot into Recovery Mode by holding down Power and Volume Up buttons together until the screen turns on. When the Samsung logo appears, let go of the Power button but keep holding down the Volume Up button until the device boots into recovery. In Recovery Mode, select Wipe data/Factory reset and select Yes on next screen. Select Reboot system now to reboot the tablet
So i flashed the device and it said passed. It rebooted but it's stuck on the samsung logo after it does the sound. I'm able to get into download mode any ideas?

Pull battery, put it back in, press and hold volume up, volume down, and power button at the same time. Once Samsung splash screen pops up the first time, let go of the power button while still holding volume buttons. Should boot right into recovery.

Do a backup in recovery before factory resetting. This way, you'll still have all your stuff that you can extract.
If all else fails, you'll need to do this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21011261

you can also go to Samsung's website: http://content.samsung.com/us/contents/aboutn/kiesIntro.do
Download Samsung kies, install it and reboot your computer.
Put your phone in the download mode:
-pull the battery, but it back don't turn on your phone
-lunch Samsung kies on your computer
-hold volume up and volume down (while holding) connect the USB cable to your computer
-use your phone's volume up/down to continue to download mode
-once your phone is detected by Kies (may take a couple of connecting and reconnecting for your drivers to install and initiate)
Click Tools-> Firmware upgrade and initilazation
go that route, have the back up checked too

Normally, the download mode always works. Try it again. Are you sure you are using the right method?
