Yea
real easy just use super one click app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
My question is, silly me, WHY root? I ask because I rooted an HD2 previously and a Nook Color but in those cases I was gaining functinality I did not have. In the case of the HD2 it was a disaster, which is why I'm now on the Galaxy.
Why root GalaxyS 4g? For the Voodoo Control Plus app if nothing else. My phone sounds unbelievable now. Great app for a noobie like me. Just download from the market.

There are many reasons to root this device.
you can remove all the crap apps that T-mobile put on the phone. (all it does is slow it down)
Load custom ROM's
Install apps that require root access.
Change the look of the phone by theme mods
OverClock the device to make it run faster. (requires custom kernel)
undervolt the device to make it more efficient on the battery. (requires custom kernel)
Make back-up of the phone incase anything goes wrong.
there are other reasons I am sure, but these are some of the main reasons for me.
The reason I rooted my phone was to do a fota fix, now I have 400 mbs of space to download apps, I also got an ad blocker

and the reason you bumped a month old thread was because?
I did it because I wanted to remove all those crap apps

Hey all, I just rooted my inspire using Bubby's method and wanted to know if I could safely delete these apps. I did a search but didn't find a list of what you could and couldn't safely delete. I know you can flash a custom rom to remove the bloat but I just wanted root and to remove everything I know I wouldn't use. Feel free to add anything else I can remove that I didn't list. Thanks to everyone that responds.

What would be some good ones if I decided to go that route? The ones I've seen mentioned a lot around here are Leedroid and Cleardroid. Which would be the best for battery life?

It is simple enough to find this out for yourself. Just make a backup of these apps with Titanium and then use Titanium to remove them (since some of these built-in apps might not uninstall the normal way). If you start to see problems then simply restore the needed app.
Yes, but maybe he does not have that kind of time to tinker with his phone...
You can also try Ingersoll, I found it to be the best optimized stock ROM with no bloatware.

you could also try cyanogen 7.3 or gingerbeast. those are very fast and contain little bloat

Alright thanks for that. This is my first android and just rooted it and now just want to get everything setup how I want it. If I flash a custom rom I want it to be near stock with good battery life and stick with that. I personally dont plan to flash diff roms every couple of days.

So my brother just got a program on his itouch, which is called tv tube sleep I think. It changes the effect of his screen off button to a tv off effect which is awesome. Ive found "screen off FX" on the android market, which is kinda cool I guess...but thing is its a widget, rather than actually pressing your sleep/screen off button...anyone find some kind of app im looking for? Thanks a lot guys! Kes

I wonder if it's just me, but when i install other apps liek GoSms, or the GoContacts app, they never run smoothly and constantly lag especially when i need to access what these apps handle quickly! Do any of yall experience such a problem? Thanks!
Are you rooted? I don't have any problems with apps like miui camera or handscent sms. Are you having problems with other apps or just what you mentioned? because I didn't have good experiences with Go sms, maybe experiment with other apps.

I believe my G2X is a later model, it does not come with the mini-HDMI, like i guess the first patch used to come with.
Anyway, upgraded to 2.3.3, ADW launcher, nothing fancy, not rooted. But over the past couple of days I am noticing some drop in performance, music skips when i browse through the menus and check e-mail. Also when i hit the unlock botton, there is about a second delay before the screen turns on.
The internal storage has 2gb remaining, my external SD has about 1.5gb remaining. I can only get up to ~170mb of RAM when i clear everything using Taskiller.
Not sure what is happening, but seems to be bogging down.
Thanks.

Wow really? I'm very familiar with rooting, I've done it to a mytouch 4g and a mytouch 3g but I always get worried it will brick.
What's a good ROM? I like the 2.3.4 from the Mytouch 4g, but not sure if supported on the G2X.

Alright well I just downloading the rooted 2.3.3. OTA and I need to get Superone Click next, right? Along with the Clockwork Mod?
I see that there were differences when rooting 2.3.3. I don't want to miss anything.

-Clockwork Mod
-Superone Click
-LG Driver
-Tegra driver?
Thats it?

All you need to do is use NVFlash. It installs a custom CWM for you. You don't really need root. Once you're done with NVFlash then you're good to go. It's in the dev section, good luck.

I'm going to try the NVflash method of getting Clockwork Mod onto my phone...then from there choose a ROM that is higher than 2.3.4. I just dont like these weird themed roms, I like the clean, stock look.

You won't have to root a custom ROM. Sorry if you know this already, I just hadn't seen anyone mention it. You had superoneclick listed after rom. These roms floating around here already have root access. Once you get cwm working, just pick a rom (i.e. cyanogenmod) and flash it.

It was a mistake. He stated his did not have HDMI and they all have it. He meant it did not have a cable.
I simply have a couple questions I'd like to get advice on. Rom Toolbox and Titanium Backup.
I already got Titanium but I'm inquiring whether an app like Rom Toolbox is useful.
I am rooted but running the stock Rom. I'd like to keep it simple and get used to learning about being rooted before getting into flashing.
Any other root apps from the Play store I should load? I'd prefer to avoid useless apps. Searching the Internet doesn't always yield the results I'm looking for. Everyone has been so helpful here I'm looking for good friendly advice.
Thanks,
Jon

Rom toolbox is not useful for us for the most part... Good root apps are : set CPU or any of.the CPU apps. titanium . CPU spy.. Erm I can't think of the others that I use....there are some fun ones like WiFi kill but.keep away from Rom toolbox
Be careful. Most root apps are harmless but there are a few that can brick your phone. Stay away from stuff like Rom Manager and Rom Toolbox. Apps that let you take shortcuts with flashing are likely to put you in a boot loop if they don't brick you. I'm not aware of any that work with this phone beyond Goo Manager.

AdAway is brilliant, get's rid of ads. I'm all for app developers getting their dues, but I struggle to avoid clicking the ads acidentally with my oafish fingers. I buy the pro versions of the really useful apps.
Droidwall is great, it let's you set which apps can use which network interfaces to get the internet (if at all). You can stop streaming video apps from using all of your data plan by setting them to only use wifi.
