Apologies - I know this has been asked before but my problem is a bit different:
... a couple of days ago I had a crash and had to reinstall ROM. Everything was fine, but upon trying to restore Angry Birds (yes, again...) I can't for the life of it make it work. Supposedly the AB data folder is in /sdcard/data/data. However, after installing AB, playing one level and checking, there's nothing there!!! If I restore the data with QtADB the game exits before it loads...
Any ideas? Where on earth should I place my data before my gf kills me?
Thanks...
The savegame file is "highscores.lua", it should be placed in "/data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds/files".
You can't explore the "/data/data" folder with a common file manager. You need Root manager or something like that (or ADB's shell).
Do not forget to set the file's permission for read/write.
Apologies - forgot to say that I have a fully rooted phone and am using ES explorer. But, for some reason, as I said, /data/data is totally empty, and that's why I'm at a loss... And when I copy my previous AN backup folder into /data/data (including, of course, highscores.lua) the game crashes before it loads.
If I empty the folder again it runs fine, so it must be drawing data from some other folder??
Noone has any idea?
Smells like a full wipe, dammit...
ES File Explorer can't browse directories that require root afaik. You'll need one that can such as Root Explorer.
EDIT: Looks like ES does have root. You need to enable it in settings, under Root options.

I can navigate everywhere on both the mob's internal memory and the SDcard, so I guess it does have root support
On the other hand, /data/data doesn't seem to need root anyhow, but I do have access. The problem persists - AB *must* be pulling data from someplace else

SimonVT said:
Nope, it's /data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds, as has already been mentioned. If /data/data/ is empty for you, your file explorer does not have read access to it, as this is where all apps store data.

If a file explored doesn't have read access to a folder it can't even enter the folder, no?. Also, other folders under /data are populated. Finally, as I've mentioned I *can copy* an older backup (either through QtADB or manually, with ESExplorer) but then the game crashes.
[EDIT]Anyhow, I'm getting some weird crashes. Something is definitely wrong with the phone, so I'm doing a full wipe and will check later and get back to you...
Thanks for trying to help
What about the new amazon app store ad free version? Will I have to start from scratch?
I'll pay 99 cents to have ad free, but don't want to have to start all over.

That's a good question. I would assume it would install slightly differently versus the Android Market version as it would have to associate itself with Amazon meaning you would have to start over.

That would suck. Guess I'll wait and see if anyone can confirm or deny.
I did get rio, which is ad free and runs so much smoother on my underpowered aria.
someone told me ... and i also can confirm it does not erase your progress. it overwites the current version and saves data.
it tells u this when u install
nice!

Hey guys just rooted the phone finally today as I wanted to be able to gain better battery life and performance.
I followed this how to:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
Which worked great and installed the following:
-Clockwork Mod Recovery
-PeanutButta Jelly Time w/ Voodo Lag Fix
On my past phones (nexus 1 and nexus S) once you rooted you could delete any app on the phone but I dont seem to be able to do this. I wanted to clean out some of the stock apps that are installed on the Charge from Verizon such as: Bitbop, City ID, ect.
What am I missing here?
Download Root Explorer, make a folder on your sd card named "charge bloat" and go into system/app and remove what you need too.
Be careful with some of the stuff you remove though

Is there anything I must keep on?
Here is the list of what I was planning on removing:
AllShare
Verizon Apps
Bitbop
Blockbuster
City ID
Guided Tours
Lets Golf 2
Rhapsody
Rock Band
Slacker Radio
V Cast Media Manager
VZ Navigator
WeatherBug Clock
Also I just downloaded root explorer and went in to system/app folder and tried to move the apps to a the new folder I created on my SD card and I get the following error:
"apk cannot be moved because the file system is read only"
NM: I had to hit the mount button at the top
In Root Explorer you need to change where it says 'Mount R/W' to 'Mount R/O'
That will give you access to move files freely.
You should also be able to remove them with Titanium Backup I believe.
Thanks guys!
Can anyone confirm if Im ok removing the ones listed? also is there a list anywhere of stuff that can be removed?
I highly recommend you use titanium backup (its free). Backup the app you want to remove, then delete it. If you delete something you shouldn't have you can then simply restore the app.

Thanks for the help guys!
2.3.4 already has like ~250MB free... then with the zergRush root I could kill off (or optimize) bloatware... and the setInstallLocation 2 ADB trick pretty much overkilled all that goodness by making sure I can absolutely optimize everything.
I was so damn happy to get Adobe Flash and all it's updates (12+MB!) off my damn phone storage... it's now consuming an extremely modest 72KB with the major bulk being consumed off my 32GB SD card.
Google Books is gone (why force that on a phone anyway?!), Facebook's gone (mobile site's better), Youtube/Maps/Street View/Navigator/GTalk and all Google's other essential services are on SD, I was able to move all the pre-installed games to SD (I didn't wanna kill them... I actually like Bruce Lee: DW, Star Battallion, Fifa and Madden).
I feel like I can virtually install EVERY GODDAMN THING and never have to worry about low storage. Up to 157 apps presently, and I've still got 182MB free!
Then there's the already awesome battery life getting MORE awesome (screwed up and left my WiFi on overnight... battery life only dropped 3%!), 720p recording, continuous auto-focus, xLoud, built-in screenshot function, more reliable GPS/WiFi connection, stronger HSPA+... I think I fell in love with my Xperia PLAY all over again
I have 479 apps installed and 120mb of free storage. I have so many apps installed now though, manage applications just force closes when i try to do anything.

Your thread titles tend to be epic. Just saying.
Gah, I want 2.3.4 so bad! I thought they were supposed to implement the xLoud into 2.3.3? I didn't notice a difference at all.
How are you able to move Maps, Flash, Navi and the such onto your SD card? I'm rooted as well.
Does it have something to do with Titanium Backup? Making it a non-system app maybe?

If you're already rooted, all you need to do is get your hands on Root Explorer.
From there, just:
• Uninstall All Updates for whatever you plan to uninstall (Very important step so you don't end up with corrupt leftover data)
• Open Root Explorer and hit the button at the top-right hand corner that says "Mount R/W"
• Go into the system/app folder of your phone storage and you'll see all the things installed to your phone's storage in APK format
• Scroll through the list until you see the icons for Adobe Flash and Google Maps
• Long Press-> Delete them.
• Restart your phone
• Re-install Adobe/Google Maps from the Market.
...for pre-installed apps you won't find on the market (like Bruce Lee), I'd recommend backing up the APK from the system/app folder, uninstalling, then re-installing from the backup.

Eh... I may be wrong on this call, but I'm pretty sure all forms of apps2sd were made completely obsolete when Froyo brought the natural ability to move to SD without all that extra SD partitioning nonsense you had to do for the same effect in Eclair.
a setInstallLocation 2 in ADB/terminal combined with the natural ability to move applications to SD has done everything efficiently enough such that I definitely wouldn't care to use an app to do the job.
Please excuse my ignorance but,
How is it possible to update to 2.3.4 (mine isn't available OTA) (orange UK) and also root it? Do you have to unlock bootloader, as this is something I don't want to do...

Use flashtool to downgrade to a generic uk 2.3.3 rom, then you can update to 2.3.4 using SEUS. You can root easly now with doomlords 1click root tool.

Bingo. Worked. Took all of 5 minutes to get my internal memory back over 100MB. Rocking.
How does this affect updates?
I hope someone can also benefit from what I do,
for those like me who doesnt know the ADB and coding stuff for moving or doing links related to internal storage..
Link2sd app (free at market)
the app can move and link any user app data, dalvik cache and library file to your sd-ext partition. Can reinstall apps and freeze also, you have the ability to choose which apps you want moved or linked if you are unsure of some apps.
With the help of titanium backup you can convert some(not all, be warned) system apps to user apps and then use Link2sd to basically move the installation to your ext partition, thus saving more internal storage.
works best with DooMLord's kernel's sd-ext mounting at boot.

I believe downgrading isn't even a necessary step (I could be wrong though, depending on how O2 does things.. just trying to save you a step). With FlashTool, you can skip straight to 2.3.4, zergRush root and you're good to go (again, I'd recommend doing a setInstallLocation 2 in ADB/terminal after all that's done).

It functions just like a regular app now. All updates will overwrite the original, and you don't have to worry about the original app+updates stacking on top of each other in your phone storage.

Hey,
For the longest time I was running 1.9A and today I decided to update my way to 2.8B. All was going fine until 2.7B. I flashed up to 2.6.1B and then when I flashed 2.7B, it didn't take as long as the other ones to flash. When I checked the settings and the about phone, it was still 2.6.1B. I tried to flash 2.7B twice already, both times still ending up with 2.6.1B. Any suggestions on how to finish up the updates without doing a wipe?
thanks

What base are you on (Safe Base-R2, Safe Base-R3, Dragon-R2, or Dragon-R3)? If on Safe Base-R2, right around 2.6.1B is when you will run out of room on your system partition. Using TiBu, "Overview" tab, see what your System ROM "free" space is. If on SafeBase-R2, you will need to free up space on system partition (/system/app) by deleting/uninstalling apps (start with S-Voice... it's 30mb) to allow updates to write to your system partition. I would recommend starting over with 2.8 and flash the new Dragon-R3.. then 2.8A... then your addons (follow the OP instructions). Gives you plenty of headroom on system partition, all the functionality you need, and very smooth/fast. I started with safebaseR2 1.7... and progressed to 2.6.1 when I ran out of room... started over with the DragonR3 flash, and couldn't be happier.

Hey thanks for the quick reply, I think I am using the Safebase, but not sure if it's R2 or R3. I also see that I am indeed out of space. I don't really want to do a clean flash again, because it's kind of a pain in a butt haha. But what apps could I delete/remove to free up space? Is it just any apps that's installed on my phone?
Thanks
Just go to system/app folder and see what apps you really don't need. You could back them up just in case. you could also do it from tibu, I think everything red is a system app. And believe me you got enough to delete, even on the dragon base I had some hefty number of apps I could get rid of.

SafebaseR3 took out 2 apks: voicetalk.apk and GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk. (Sean added GoogleNow in 2.6.1 which maxed out the system partition). Voicetalk.apk (S-Voice) is 30mb. Use your favorite file explorer (i.e., RootExplorer, etc), navigate to /system/app, and sort by descending file size. If voicetalk.apk is there, you are on Safebase R2. If you don't plan on using S-Voice, then use TiBu to uninstall it (that will remove voicetalk.apk from your /system/app folder... and immediately free-up 30mb of space on the system partition). If you want to trim more, review the next few largest apks in /system/app folder and determine if you want/need them.. if not, uninstall with TiBu (google the apk to get the app name.. for example: SevenEngine.apk is the SocialHub app).

ohh, so that's what I was missing. How much space do I need to clear up to have enough for 2.7B and 2.8B files? just as big as the zip themselves?
You can try deleting a few stuff and then trying to flash, the build.prop is the last files to flash so if you had enough room it should change if not delete some more and try to flash again.
New update 5.0 lollipop And shield tablet wont write or let you delete or move in external SD Card? Theres a workaround option. The problem is the permissions change now app are allowed to write and delete in their own folder in sd1/android/data/appfolder . So the problem is that apps are not aware or not updated . But theres one app that have this workaround called sandbox where it let you put files in their sandbox folder write delete or move all your files in external sd card. Its called B1 File Mananger free in android market. Hope this help user that dont have rooted device. No root required.
Install B1 File Manager open, click B1 File Manager Icon , click local, click sandbox, here you can put new folders or files even delete them .
Path STORAGE/sdcard1/Android/Data/orb.b1.android.filemananger/files/here
Note don't delete the app it will delete all files in that path .
Have a nice day
Too much work, rather root if applicable or just deal
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using Tapatalk
You only need to install the app and click sandbox that all. Too easy?
I rather use this than wiping all my data or voiding my warranty at last until a easy root is released.
Ditto. I've had to set up my Shield Tab 3 times in the last week and just re-encrypted and set it up this morning. DOn't want to have to do it again to unlock. :S
I've just upgraded to Lollipop so hopefully the Storage Access Framework gives way and lets me access the storage that Settings and every file manager can see except for SAF.
Your workaround is similar to apple methodology-- each app has segregated storage. The downside is that other apps can't even peek inside this special folder to load or scan content.
The bigger problem is that if your app is uninstalled for any reason, the data goes too. This could be a huge deal for people with apps like Sketchbook -- an accidental or automated uninstall could lose them months worth of work.
Not that you're to blame here, it's just that there are so many bad things that can happen.
OK so I am a complete Android Noob to start, but I am not a noob in general.
I bought a Fire Tablet hoping to accomplish 1 thing but I am now unsure I will be able to and am looking for guidance.
There is an app that I have downloaded via google play that works in offline mode. That tells me that the data is indeed somewhere on the device. My guess is that they do not want me to have access to the data, but I want access! I have gone through the device folder by folder, file by file with ES, Total Commander, Android Studios Device File Explorer and cannot find the data. My guess is that it is in one of the permission denied folders...
Since it is a recent purchase, I am pretty sure from all my reading that rooting it is not an option?? Am I SOL? Is there another way to access this data, and would I even be able to access it after rooting if that was possible? I am not against jumping on ebay and buying an older model if that is what is needed to accomplish this.
Thanks for reading -
All apps (root or not) have a default data directory, which is /data/data/<PKG-NAME>.
By default, the apps databases, settings, and all other data go here.
This directory is "private" to the app – which means no other app and not even the user can access data in it (without root permissions).

I do understand that - and thank you for the reply. I guess my question would be - does rooting it guarantee I would have access to it?
