Hi, I currently have a rooted mytouch 4g running android 2.3 that I bought used off of craigslist. I got an offer to trade my mytouch 4g plus cash for a nexus s brand new. Now I don't necessarily love Samsung but the deal seems like it could be beneficial to me. Some background:
I have a mytouch with a 'bad screen'
I have absolutely none of the original packaging or accessories.
The phone is a bit scuffed up and it is purple.
Now I was hoping you guys could give me your opinion, if you were in my shoes, would you trade or keep the phone?

I wouldn't....
too many bad things about the nexus s, and far too many fones that will be released in the next few months that will outdate "kill" the nexus S while the mt4g even with a bad screen STANDS STRONG, i also have a bad screen and this is far better processor, plus you can contact htc through tmoble to possibly exchange now for the scuffs u can spend 11bucks at ur local mall and get watever color gel case u want and.u now have ur fave color mt4g in ur hands
just my opinion do sum reading thru here there are lots of negatives to the nexus s, our (mt4g) gingerbread runs wayyy better

I honestly do not see why not... If I was in your shoes I would do it, if you don't you will probably be asking yourself what if? Plus you should factor in the following which is are you able to fully utilize hspa+ where you are.... Ultimately it also comes down to whether you have patience for Nexus S development to pick up and moreover if the mytouch better suits what you need... The Nexus S in my honest opinion is currently a better offering hardware wise and potentially (support google/dev scene) software wise with the largest omission being hspa+...
Apparently very debatable

I got the NS for 1 week and I went back to the MT4G. Maybe you like the NS, so try it and if not you can trade it again. I had a thread about my experience with the NS and compared it a bit to the MT4G.

I'm returning my Nexus S tomorrow. Picked up the my touch yesterday. So far I think this version of Sense is terrible. That, however can be fixed. Really there are a number off things I don't like about the my touch yet I will still return the Nexus. GPS, accelerometer, and compass all function much better on the my touch. Huge difference. If I'm going to spend 500 bucks on a phone I expect the features that make it more than just a phone to work well. Updates from Google are important but I would rather have well functioning hardware. If the my touch never receives another ota it's still a pretty good phone. The Nexus will probably never have a stable compass or gps. That's my take at least. There were some other hardware issues such as phantom button presses that put me over the edge with the Nexus, but that may have been cured with an exchange.

I went from the G1, which I loved, to the Vibrant, which I loved to hate. The developers did the best they could but the phone was still sitting with no official froyo six months after release, so I got fed up and sold it.
I got a Nexus S after the hype, went through two replacements before I got one that functioned properly. In the end, I still couldn't come to terms with the fact I was essentially buying another Samsung phone. I did some comparison shopping. Turned my S back for a refund and got a MT4G.
I did have to exchange the MT4G one time to get one with a good display, so I wasn't too happy at first, but now I'm much happier than I was with the Nexus S. It's got a more solid build, the camera is better, the buttons are responsive (big problem with the Nexus), the GPS locks quickly, I trust an HTC device 100x more than a Samsung device, and considering that we are getting Cyan 7 nightlies that are already fairly stable, I know I've made the right choice.

Thats what I would do... Make a post, selling a Nexus S you haven't traded for yet, and see how many hits you get... if you get some legit hits.. I would trade the MT4G for the NS and sell the NS, then buy a MT4G or wait for some of these next-gen phones to come out. I LOVE the MT4G....it is amazing...think the NS fails in comparision...and anyone that would pick a NS over the MT4G is prolly just doing so because they are google fanboys, or they don't want to admit to themselves they paid 500 dollars for a phone that is basically the iphone with bugs....I honestly don't think anyone looking at the matchup objectively would pick the NS over the MT4G. Good Luck with your decision making, hope it works out.
You really want to get some unbiased answers post this same question in the Nexus S forms... Btw, I agree with the poster above if your heart is set on a mytouch 4g turn around and sell the Nexus S you acquire and obtain a mytouch 4g with the better built screen and possibly a better exterior color, like black

LOL now now lets not be that harsh, NS can still beat down the iPanzy 4 with its eye closed. But NS does not compare against MT4G as we know TMo Project: Emerald was successful IMO they created a monster muahaha and even its brother DHD can't beat MT4G in speed yet they share similar spec. NS could have been good but its crippled by Samsung due to their inferior management and other marketing factors.
If I am not mistaken doesn't the hummingbird processor take advantage of gingerbread in ways any generation of the snapdragon processor cannot? Or was this a myth?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Originally I wanted the nexus s but my parents got me the mytouch.
To me 2.3 was a huge bonus for the nexus s but now the mytouch has 2.3 so its all good. The next advantage was the better screen for the nexus but now that super amoled two displays are coming out the nexus screen will be obsolete soon enough.although if I was you I would just wait for the phones announced at ces to come out.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yeah, you're pretty much going to get biased opinons, but I think the myTouch has a better chance of anything at this point. We got the CM7 nightys coming along nicely, and we even have a cleaned up version of the stock rom which runs like fire (Iced Glacier) and overall it supports TMobile's 4G network.
MyTouch all the way. You really don't need the NFC for another couple of years cause they're just starting to put some use to it.
MyTouch all the way, and plus read some of the stuff about the Nexus, it's having lagging issues, random reboots and such. And plus it's a Samsung device, that doesn't mean it won't get the next version of Android quick, but the fact that it's just a samsung device and that it feels like ****. The Mytouch (at least mine) feels solid.
ATM its just a myth as Hummingbird S5PC110 does not stand a chance with Snapdragon MSM8255 was only factor with 1st gen Snapdragon. But however at the same time credit must be given to SGX 540 as its slightly better than Adreno 205. Then again this is where Samsung can only excel huh in graphic and SAMOLED display. Also don't let the whole NS using ext4 BS get to you as we are still not in dualcore world fully but ext4 does have its benefits. Overall MT4G beats NS with its face down in the gutter where Samsung belongs. This device is not any type of flagship but it does have potentials as lineup device, only thing I see holding it back is Samsung lol and then again they tend to do that.
I've had both but ultimately chose the MyTouch because having 4g speeds made a huge difference in the entire experience. On the NS I was always having to run wifi. Also the NS just never felt complete. Running CM7 makes the MT4g a complete phone.

Dont, Nexus S isnt really a that good of phone plus u have gingerbread etc and Nexus S is samsung made. Cheap quality. MT4g kicks its ass in CPU and Some GPU stuff ( shader performance and more) so i say keep it
If you have 2.3 on your mt4g there is no point. That's the only thing the nexus s has over mt4g out of the box. Plus the mt4g has 4g and HTC is better than Samsung by a long shot...

Hi guys,
My MT3GS suddenly decided to kick the bucket last night, so now I'm just looking around for potential new phones.
I'm considering among mt4gs, sensation, g2, and mt4g. I just want to know how you guys liked the phone, and which phone would be the wiser choice at the end, or if there's other phones I should consider as well.
I thank you all in advance for the advices!
Spec wise, the order is mt4gs/sensation at the top, mt4g, then g2. For they money, I say mt4g is your best bang for the Buck(150 on Cl from what I've seen). Development wise, mt4g and g2 are tied, with the sensation in third and mt4gs in last. I personally would go for the mt4gs if you can afford it. I've grown very fond of the keyboard in the two weeks I've had it, and the development will pick up. Maybe it will never be at the level of the mt4g or g2, but it won't be a handful of devs for much longer either.

I love this phone, but i've never had any other so can't compare. I'll have it for a few years.
I like being able to plug into a tv at a friends house and watch a movie, play some games, or just play music on basically anything with audio input.
Haven't found an app it can't handle, and I think it'll be a long time before that happens.
Just some middle of the night thoughts.
I have both the G2 and the MT4GS. T-Mobile isn't selling the G2 new anymore (I think they still sell refurbished units), but that device has a year head-start on the MT4GS. The MT4GS has the stability of dual-core, which means it's safer to play games on it. I'd go with the MT4GS if I were you.
I am sure you will be happy with this phone . My biggest gripe was lack of support. Since source has been released things. have picked up.
I haven't met a person or read a post here about people ever disliking. Our phone.
Also if you want to read up on certain things check out my sig.

mt4gs kicks ass. its future proof, once ics gets ported you will be happy u had a dual core phone. gpu rendering, multicore os for once....
the only thing i dislike is not having an OLED screen.
the potential to save battery from using a black wallpaper would be pretty nice. OLED screens actually turn off pixels for blacks on the screen.

I know this isn't your ordinary question but. Does anyone know where to get european phones in Colorado. I always love them because they stand out. I know that with T-Mobile I'd only get edge on most. But anyone got any ideas on where I can maybe find one in Colorado other then eBay?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
I can't help you with locating them mate, but I can tell you that select European models do actually offer the 1700MHz frequency you'd need for T-Mobile 3G.
European phones use either 900 or 2100MHz for 3G. T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 together, meaning you need both bands in action at the same time (download/upload).
A couple that spring to mind are the X515M HTC Evo 3D and the S710E HTC Incredible S. If you find yourself looking at a couple on eBay or just unsure in general, feel free to PM me a link or a model number and I will happily help you out
Good luck with your search!
Thanks. And I was very interested in the evo 3D and the sensation XL. But both were rather pricey. I have a few devices now. And there alright. I'm probably gonna sell to get the evo or XL. What do you like?

Both are pricey, the Sensation XL is ridiculous! I've seen the Evo 3D as low as 300 (new) on eBay Australia.
Personally I really liked the Evo 3D. It has a great feel in the hand and was much speedier than the original Sensation. The 3D implementation is poorer than say, LG or Sharp (Sharp's is undeniably the best) but the overall performance is great. Excellent LCD and promising camera.
I've never tried (or even seen in person) the XL, but I am a bit of a pixel fiend so it's one I would give a miss anyway. WVGA on a screen that big is not for me. Plus with the Beats headsets adding to the price I'd be paying top-dollar for something I wouldn't even use.
I know for a fact both those models I listed do 1700MHz 3G. One bloke in the Marketplace wanted US$500 for his X515M for that very reason
That price on the XL is rough. I did like the size. And I found ONE on a local Craigslist. Yeah they wanted 550. But I think I just need to sell all my phones and move on to the 3D. I have a Nexus S (hate it) nexus one. (Eh. Nice yet little slow) LG Shine Plus(great cheap 10 dollar android I picked up in Canada) my HTC Desire(would be using if it wasn't U.S Cellular CDMA) but what about the battery on the evo? Is it good. My nexus s is a battery alcoholic. I need it to last a day if not more.

Nah that price was for a 3vo. XLs are still around the 600 mark over here. I'm not sure the XL does 1700, it does do 850 though.
That's a nice little collection you have there Pictures of the Shine Plus really intrigue me, it looks to be a tidy little backup phone. Even the QWERTY looks good and LGs QWERTYs generally suck.
Battery life is very subjective. What's good to me, may be sh*thouse to you. I don't expect much more than 12 hours out of any phone battery (pretty heavy user now) but the 3vo was almost able to see me out two days. If you get a brand new one, don't make a judgement call about the battery life within the first couple of weeks. Your battery will need that long charging/discharging to really hit its full potential
Although the 3D is just a gimmick, the handset itself is very capable. Provided you don't mind a big phone, of course
Well it looked as the XL there was one that did 1700 2100. And the evo I found. was 429 plus overnighted shipping Free.

Yeah. I like the Evo. So far my winner. But I have a Milestone as well. (Work at a phone store, and also a private reseller, this why I have many phones) and I was looking at the milestone 2. Didn't find very good specs on it. And
The shines keyboard is quiet promising. I love it. I've been using the hell out of it. Super durable. Heavy but mostly metal. Better durability then the us copy also known as the ally. Which I ran across the street. phone flew out my hoodie pocket(noob move) and the shine right into the street. Minimal damage was found.

The Droid 3 is a nice phone, with the second-best QWERTY (HTC Touch Pro 2 is first) I've ever used. I didn't like the rubber mat on the Milestone, but used that phone for ages myself. At the time it was pure awesome, and it still has an LCD to rival the best WVGAs!
The Ally! I was trying to think what the other model was called. I had a GW-620 when that first hit market (first LG Android phone - or maybe slider?) and it had a horrid little keyboard
I hope you end up finding what you're looking for mate. I'd probably jump on that 3vo though
Last christmas i could upgrade from my beloved HTC Desire one of the best phones.I had. I decided to try the galaxy S2 out seeing as this was a top end android device at the time of the upgrade. I regretted it. Could not get on with it. Felt a bit key down by all the hype. So I did the daft thing and sold it for a IPhone.
And then a whole stream of bad luck hit. Broken WiFi broken screen. So I decided to sell to iPhone and I was looking on my local gumtree and found the HTC one S for sale. I had to have it.
It really is a amazing phone. So bright and looks good.
Though I want to know what kind of Ron's and that are out there for this phone. It's has the s4 chip. If that makes any difference.
Any tips or anything would be great.

i know this has been stated many times, but i just wanna say it again, this device is beast!

This is my first non motorola android phone.......not looking back. This thing is GREAT!!!!!!
I got the HTC Incredible 2 as my first phone and since I didn't know anything about Android at the time I got it based on reviews not knowing each manufacturer was different. Then I got the DNA because it was the best Verizon phone at the time. (Not a fan of Samsung's cheap feel and hate Touch wiz) Then I got the M8 for close to same reason.
HTC just keeps finding new ways to reel me back in. Loving this phone so much. In my opinion Sense is the best version of Android aside from fully working Cyanogenmod.

I hope that development picks up I know the m8 is new but I've been spoiled with the RAZR maxx HD (current phone ) having like every ROM and recovery ported to the thing lol ...rant over thanks
Every smartphone I've owned with the exception of the Razr Maxx HD previous to this one had been an HTC (starting with the WinMo XV6800). HTC keeps producing phones like this I will never stray again.

Great thread. Glad to see people showing some love for this phone. I've had this since launch day. I looked at the S5 when it launched a couple of weeks later. While the screen looks amazing and there are some improvements to Touchwiz, it doesn't compare to the M8.
First time HTC owner here too. Coming from the Galaxy Nexus which i liked but was getting long in the tooth. Learning curve with the HTC to pick up how to do a lot of things but wow, i really am enjoying the smoothness and functionality of this phone!
this phone is amazing in my eyes i have 2 of em one to test roms and one as personal and its fin awesome way better then the S5 i mean really S5 is what its all cracked up to be all we need now is a lifeproof case for our m8s and we'd be golden
HTC will now be the smartphone I've owned the most. I have had the iPhone and the Galaxy but they both fail in comparison next to HTC's M8. Not only is the phone built like a tank its onboard software has been the most aesthetically pleasing out of all the android phones i have used topping stock android. They have managed to tone down the user interface and created a software that in my opinion should be what google strives to be more like. My only wish is that google and HTC would partner up to make the best smartphone together.

True, but you never know what other defects a refurb will have.
That said, I've never understood why people go for giant cases. The shock absorption and protection of a slim TPU case is all you really need to prevent shattering your screen. I've yet to break one.

I cannot imagine what sort of drops you'd have to perform to break a screen through a typical lipped TPU case. My GS3 withstood *many* drops on concrete (sidewalk, street, basement) while outfitted with a diztronic TPU case while receiving absolutely no damage. The case got a little dinged up though.
Who knows maybe I'm just lucky!
