Hi Folks,
All Cellphone Operators/Network providers related discussion to go into this thread. This includes petitions, future plans, tariff plans, discount offers etc etc.
Any thread posted related to network operators will be merged into this.
This is a process to keep the general section neat and clean, as over the past few months we have seen many repeat threads, especially regarding ATT and T-Mobile.
Hope you co-operate.
If you are looking for something specific for your device you can always search this thread.
Thanks.
25% Discount for sprint service
I'm not sure if this was ever posted before but I have found a way to get a 25% discount off most Sprint plans.
A) sign up for an AIM Mail email account
https://new.aol.com/productsweb/?promocode=825960&ncid=txtlnkuswebr00000040
B) go to the corp discount page on the sprint site and enter your aim mail account as your business email address.
http://sprint.p.delivery.net/m/p/nxt/ais/wdyw.asp?id12=UHPCHP_Link_EmployeeDiscounts
Sprint will then send you an e-mail with a link to a private store that says you are a Time Warner employee and you get a 25% discount.
Plans with this discount cost less than on the current sero plans.
Remember to use coupon code save50 to get a $50 invoice credit on new service!
Thats it
let me know how it works out.
That's pretty sick if it works. I can get a EVP discount through my workplace and was told that they don't do discounts on the simply everything plans.
Hmm, 2yr contract for 25% off bill...hmmm

From what I am aware of to establish a new line of service always requires a 2 year contract..... so why not save 25%
Just signed up. Listed my company as Time Warner Cable. Hopefully I don't end up in jail for fraud. I'll post back here whenever they email me.

Different companies get different discounts. My workplace for example only gets 15%
Im about to switch as my workplace offers a 15% discount. Interesting about the 50 dollar credit. Is that something I just haven't heard about? Is everyone eligible for that? And I assume you have to order online?
Currently on a free and clear 3000 minute concession line for $20 bucks a month (unlim data, text, etc), but considering doing this as I leave Best buy mobile in 2 months and most likely lose my amazing plan.

I'm getting this plan when I move to Sprint. Because of the extra data charge for the EVO 4G, the plan is $30, instead of $20 like normal employee plans.

Amazon Wireless has the MT4G for $50 if you want to upgrade, but is that truly the best price? I was wondering if anyone has gotten retentions to give them a free MT4G for renewing/subscribing.

Lastly, I do not understand your comment about the soup kitchen, so I will ignore your post otherwise.

$50 is the lowest I've seen anywhere. However, keep in mind that Amazon may not allow you to keep your grandfathered plan if you are renewing. I tried to upgrade through Wirefly, since they were less expensive than T-Mobile, but the website was forcing me to select a more expensive data plan and a different minute allowance. No thanks.

I just tried going through the checkout options through Amazon and it allows me to keep my plan the same, but forces the $30/mo service option. On my lunch break I'm going to call retentions and have them try to match the Amazon price, and if I can get them to do that I'll be upgrading my G1 and my fiance's Behold 2 today

Yes they'll enforce a data plan, but I don't want to have to spend $30/mo for the unlimited data plan when I'm on an unlimited data plan right now at $20/mo so that's what I'm trying to keep the same.

Had a buddy order his earlier today through Amazon as well and his says Jan 3rd. But he called amazon wireless customer service and was told their next stock comes in in 8-9 days and all current orders fit within that new inventory so the 1-2 week backorder status should remain accurate.
With this Amazon deal up now, I'm going to go out on a limb and say we're gonna see free phones with upgrade within a week. I'm holding out.
Got mine last week at costco for $99. Walked in today and saw they were offering new lines for $49. Brought in my receipt and got the difference refunded

You mean "4G," right?
I don't know what your data experience was like with the N1, with the MT4G it's been really good. I've tested it from Boston to Manhattan and everywhere in between, the connection has been pretty solid and low latency.
That said, I was upgrading from a G1, so I was totally blown away. I think coming from the N1, this will be a less exciting upgrade for you.
retentions
Went through retentions last week for MT4G.
$99 + $20 unlimited plan
with new 2yr contract extention
I was out of contract and upgrading to new phone.
For those ppl upgrading, $99 seems to be the sweet spot?
(The amazon link says $149.99 if you're already a TMO customer; $49.99 for new and $79.99 for new family.)
Looks like no one has gotten it for free just yet, hm?
Have you guys heard about the 'buy one get one free' plan for Nov 26 - Jan 18?

Hi Guys,
I've been trying to get a phone for development for around 250ish but havn't been successful. Well, it seems my chance might be comming up since T-Mobile is having a Free Smart Phone sale this weekend.
My plan is to go buy the phone, use it for 16 days and cancel my contract. If everything's done fair, it should cost $200 + 16 days of service + any taxes/activation fees.
So I have a few questions.
1) Has anyone done this before? Where there any suprises?
2) Is WP7 functional with Wifi? (i.e. marketplace, games, internet, etc).
3) Think I'll still be able to get updates or what not?
4) Anything else I should be looking for?
Thanks!
A bill from t-mobile for full price of the phone.
I don't get it, you want to develop for 16 days?

Umm, no, T-Mobile requires you return hardware when you cancel your contract within 15 days. But they don't charge a fee.
If you keep the phone, that whole special goes out the window. Read the contract. They will charge you full price.

No... I'm trying to get a WP7 phone to develop with. But I don't have the 600 bucks to buy if "off contract".
So, if I enter a contract, get the phone discounted for FREE this weekend, then "Terminate" the contract a month later, I have to pay the $200 ETF + the month bill + taxes which would be significantly less than the 600 bucks off contract.
Once I terminate the contract, I have no obligation on returning the device, I was asking to see what the outcome would be. T-Mobile online rep blantly said, I'd be responsible for the ETF + Monthly Fee + Taxes, but god knows if they are right, I wanted to see if anyone else tried this.

I see, let's take a look though.
$200 ETF
$80 monthly fee (cheapest monthly price you can get on WP7 with tmobile)
$35 activation fee
$35 (approx.) taxes and fees
$350 total for the phone.
not sure where you live but here you could get it for something like this:
http://houston.craigslist.org/mob/2205022524.html
or
http://houston.craigslist.org/mob/2202253067.html
of course there are people asking fro $400 but I can guarantee they will not get near that money for this phone.
If you really want to try what you're talking about then go for it, it seems like it would work, but:
1) they may have a stipulation where you cannot cancel your contract for X months due to the "free" phone or you owe the difference, I'd check the fine print on that one.
2) seems like too much work and drama.
retail for an HD7 on tmobile is $500,
This is why Verizon & att (real carriers in the usa) have $350+ ETFs.
watch for mail in rebate that will void if your contract is expired before xx days
orangekid pointed out the actual higher cost though. You might want to check ATT price for a Focus off-contract i've heard can be had for $399 but ymmv. better phone and more coverage if you ever needed to use it as a phone later.
The phone will be fully functional (on wifi) but sim locked to the carrier.

I don't know what you mean by "real carrier" @ att, since in my city they drop more calls than tmobile ever does even though they probably have more subscribers. ATT's monthly rates (as verizon's) are insanely high too, and they have tiered data, whereas tmobile does not.
off contract they usually give you the sim unlock code, but on contract they generally don't from my experience.
Ugh 2 pages and no answer. The answer to your question is this.
1. You don't need an actual phone to develop apps. The development tool package comes with a simulator.
2. You cannot install apps you are developing on the phone without having it being flagged for development. This process costs 99$ a year and requires you send some identification data to the company that verifies your identity.
So buying a phone for 16 days is pointless. Even if you had the phone you couldn't put any apps on it without paying Microsoft 99$. Personally I would use the simulator to learn how to develop an app, develop one and then buy the phone when you're ready to release. The advantage here is obviously newer better phones in the future compared to right now.
hope that helps
very good points, I figured since OP is trying to scratch, claw, gamble, and steal his way to get the phone, he was just going to use Chevron on it instead of dropping $99 on the fee.

With all the trouble people are having with Wirefly in the other thread, this is an alternative. This company is a direct affiliate of T-mobile, check out their site for more company info on them. But they offer the newest handsets at the cheapest I've seen yet for new activations. I believe they even have the Sidekick 4g for below $49.
If this don't help you, pass on to somebody who can take advantage of this offer. I know I did!

G2X + Contract from T-Mobile
I've been off contract from T-Moblile for over ten years and was getting nervous about the AT&T crud. I decided that I didn't want to be caught without a decent plan at the time of the sale and have AT&T force me into one of their crap plans.
Called up TMO, asked them what my options were; told them I DID NOT want a 2gb throttling ceiling; and would prefer to keep my Loyalty plan (5gb throttling ceiling) but to put under a contract.
Much to my surprise and pleasure, the rep told me they would keep all the terms of my existing plan (unlimited everything) and give me the 79.99 price of their new plan. Saved me about $10.00 dollars a month!
.... and I bought the G2X for the $199 price.

To be honest, in my opinion I'd go for the G2X. Just for the simple reason of it being flagship, along with Sidekick 4G and the Gslate.
I really don't see T-mobile cutting into those sales at least for a few months.
We probably ain't gonna see the Sensation until mid summer and then even then I'm pretty sure the G2X will hold value, you could just sell it.

I'm ditching Verizon and going with the $30/mo plan. Actually, I plan on going $45/mo and getting an extra 150 minutes.
Yeah, it looks like I'm going to be ditching Verizon too and going with this plan. I don't use anywhere near the minutes to justify unlimited talk time and I'm tired of the crap they do. I'd rather put up with potentially worse coverage to go with a better deal. And if more people decide on that, then maybe the coverage will get better.

ATTABOY!
I will probably give the Tmo $30 plan a try and do a comparison with the straight talk $45 AT&T LTE plan just to see who has the best signal/speed in the area I work/travel.
Currently using a VM wildfire S as a backup phone, so man am I ready for the N5 lol.

Although that Simple Choice plan became very very tempting.

I started using this plan while on the Nexus 1. I'm using the Galaxy Nexus now and plan on moving to the N5 when it comes out. I love it, saves me TONS of money. No tax, no service fees, just a straight $30 a month.
Here is what I do with my Nexus 4 (soon to be Nexus 5).
Tmobile $30 plan (5GB 4g, unlimited texts and 100min/month) - I get refills on eBay/Craigslist for $27-$28, no tax.
I have VOIPO home phone service ($185 for 2 years), which allows SIP connections. I use CSipSimple on N4 to allow SIP calling over Wifi/data.
I save the 100 minutes for emergency
I was paying AT&T $110/month for 2 smartphones, now I pay $56/month to Tmobile, love it.
If anyone is interested in VOIPO let me know (free month of service to referral and referee)
Cheers

It's hard to find on their website. Sometimes I find it, sometimes I can't. You either have to call or go to WalMart to get the $30 pre-paid plan.

As an alternative you can.... not get it.
buy 40$ refills since minutes after 100 are 10c per min. Then whatever you dont use is carried over. I usually use 34$ a month.

I assume this is a non-contract plan? Do they have more that are non-contract? T-Mobile, in my opinion, has royally screwed its customers. By not allowing customers to upgrade their phones the old way (getting a phone for next to nothing when the customers signs a new 2 year agreement). And their customer service, in my opinion (again) used to be amazing. It has gone to complete crap.
I left them, in contract, so I was happy to pay the 200$ early termination fee to get rid of them.
Doesn't TMobile now have non-contract plans for every new customer? I am not too familiar with them now, since I switched, but I thought this was the case?

There are other choices - might I kindly suggest that you "skim" thru this thread with extensive info & how-to's, etc. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476995&page=82 (yes, I know & understand that, like most, "we" all hate to read to try to understand how things work .. )
You did NOT indicate what your data needs or usage pattern are - but if you plan to use the Nexus 5 for lots of mobile air minutes to talk, there are unlimited plans for that. Priced accordingly & competitively, they do vary & might / might not have good coverage for your location.
There is Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, and the Walmart plan ... Lately, Target has its own exclusive "Brightspot" plans. Like here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511152&page=3
Or, do as I say & listen to what I do - leave a reserve fund (like a credit line) for excess minute charges to be deducted once you go over & yes, T-Mo will SMS alert you and you can do short codes to check your account status.
The "Search" button here on XDA - it does miracle finds, usually & often - use it. Have a nice day !

all (new) plans from tmobile are non-contract
Tmobile basically separated the phone subsidy with the phone line.
(I don't know the exact numbers, but someone can chime in)
Before, you would be paying $130{?} for 2 lines on t-mobile. now, you'll be paying $80 for 2 lines. You can CHOOSE to finance two Samsung Galaxy S4 phones @ $25/month for 24 months with $0 down, which gives you a monthly fee of $130, similar to before... but the extra $25 a month stops exactly after 24 months. you just can also choose not to take the "free" phone...
As you said, you aren't happy with what T-mobile is doing, then go back to the other 3 carriers (which do the same contract thing. though at&t finally follow t-mobile and added a off-contract $15 discount)... I'm happy with what T-mobile is doing...

Yeah, I am on another carrier now.
Who would finance a phone? That's asinine. I mean if you have to do it, you have to do it, but that doesn't make sense to me.
For me, I was with T-Mobile for 7+ years. I felt as though I got screwed. It may be good for new customers, but not previous customers. It was a big slap in the face for long time customers.

and you are just playing into the trap that AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/{T-mobile} have been playing for the past 10x years.... let the customers get "free" phones every 2 years, but hide the cost within the phone line
now, it's separate... it's the same price as before, just that customers can choose to finance a phone, or not finance a phone(and save $25/month). if you can't see that you have better choices, then sorry, AT&T/Verizon/Sprint would love you. you are the customer that they want
if you had a grandfathered plan, t-mobile would actually give you a better deal(than new customers), to entice you to switch

You could be right, but I am happy with that way of doing business... No worries.
yeah im on verizon now and its just ridiculous .
I'm not going to read the T-Mobile$30 plan thread since I have a working solution.
But for my daughter I set her up with a Callcentric number, Google Voice and Google Voice Callback (available in the Amazon app store) and now she receives and makes all calls over IP.
I find the quality ok when I talk to her though occasionally there are voice delays when I'm using internet calling also.
