I've noticed recently, especially with the release of LTE and their SIM card that some people may have difficulty finding the option to delete their SIM card or groups of people.
So if you need to delete say, all of your phone contacts seperate from your sim contacts, or seperate from your google contacts, and visa versa do this:
Steps (this applies to HTC devices):
1. Open "People" application
2. Tap "Menu" button
3. Select "View"
4. Now check the contact list or lists you want to remove from, for example SIM card
5. Hit "Done" (now make sure those are the contacts you want to remove)
6. Tap "Menu" button
7. Select "delete" and then check the contacts you want to remove, or continue with steps to remove all...
8a. Close the keyboard
8b. Tap "Menu" button again
9. Now select, select all or deselect all
10. Now "Delete"
11. No more duplicates, hopefully!
Just remeber to go back to:
People app > Menu > View > and recheck your contact books that you wish to view in the People app.
Tweet if you like it! Enjoy.
Thanks, this really helped me... couldn't find it to save my life.

Hi there,
After finally getting the Android Stock Contacts app on my Desire, I'm finally able to use the "Sync Group" option to only show one group (let's call it "cormie) in the phone book. This is all fine, I have ticked off all other groups and only "cormie" is ticked on. It displays the "cormie" contacts and the contacts on the SIM (I can delete them off it later I guess) but the main objective is to just use the "cormie" contacts and nothing else.
However, when I go to add a new contact and save it, when I sync it to Gmail, the new entry doesn't show up in "cormie" but only in "all contacts" and once the contact is saved on the phone, it doesn't appear in the phone book because I'm only showing "cormie" contacts and it's not there To see the entry I have to go back in and to show all contacts, then I see it.
This puts a great hindrance on the purpose of the Sync Group option. The guy in post 10 here seems to have got it going, but as you can see in my reply, post 11, it's not saving to the desired group for me!
I'd really appreciate if anyone has a solution for this and could explain how to get it working properly. Or is there an alternative contacts program that will do it? Also, if anyone knows how to not display SIM contacts in the phonebook please share too
Any feedback appreciated at all!
Brilliant! I think I got a workaround
When I first started using the phone after rooting it, I selected "contacts" to be the default for all the options and it actually turns out that the Sense "people" app allows you to save a contact to a group even though it doesn't allow you to "sync groups", choosing which groups you want to sync only, so I needed to get the "people" app to be the default for adding contacts.
What I had to do was go to the main menu > settings > applications > manage applications > scroll down to contacts > and press "clear defaults"
This clears "contacts" as being the default for all the phonebook related actions. If you go back to the home screen and click "phone" you can set "contacts" as the default for this, but then when you go to add a new contact in contacts, it will ask what app you want to add a contact with, click set as default and click the "people" app. Now all "add to contact" actions will be carried out using "people" app, here you can select the group you wish to save it to and then it will show up perfectly in the "contacts" "contacts" menu and will be synched correctly to the chosen group on Gmail!
I think, after 18 days of buying it, I'm finally ready to put my normal sim card in the phone and start using it as a phone! Finally!
I realize this is WAY later than the original post, but have any of you found a solution to not being able to add a new contact to the group you want to add it to? I'm using an HTC Hero (cdma) that I Froyoed with aospmod 2.2.1, so I cannot use the htc "people" app - at least I read that. Sorting by groups is mucho importante to me and I find the default contacts app built into aospmod lacking in this area.
Thanks if you even reply to this!
Got an email with an address in it. Want to copy / paste that address into a new appointment in the calendar. So after banging my head trying to get it to work, I give up. Here's what I tried:
Built in email client (not gmail)
1. long press on address....nothing
2. menu button...nothing
3. forwarded message (to put in edit mode)...long press on address...nothing
4. tap on address finds address in google maps (which by the way it doesn't do while reading the email...)
5. now we try all sorts of convulsive activities in maps...still no go
Moving on to K9
Same sequence of steps slightly different results...but still a BIG FAT FAIL.
One would think after all the flack that apple took for copy / paste that this incredibly simple task I want to accomplish wouldn't be so brain damaging hard.
Please someone save me from the pain and agony.
Peter
When I receive a mail in GMail, a long press on the address in read mode brings up a context menu with the choices (Map, Copy). I choose Copy. I then switch to calender, tap to create and in the Location I long press and it gives me a context menu with choices (Paste, Input method). I choose Paste and voila, the address is in the Location.
Your correct, after setting up an IMAP account using the other mail client, the long press does not work to copy. Only the "Complete action using: AT&T Maps, AT&T Navigator and Maps". Seems like long press is there, but it is not mapped to anything.

I should ahve stated that in my first message that it works in gmail client. However that's not so good if you have multiple other accounts that dont funnel through gmail.
I'm having the same problem. I think I'll start shopping around for an alternative email client soon.
has there been any headway on this?
I have the same problem with my new infuse. I never realized how much I used copy and paste on my tilt 2 until I couldn't do it anymore. But thanks for saving me the trouble of trying to download K9 to fix it!
Just tested. You can do two things:
1. Click on the address to add to your contacts, or
2. Open the email, then forward, then select existing recipient, then address will be in address field and then you can copy.

So, this is my dilemma.
1. I have a SIM Card. It has contacts on it. Android automatically recognizes them.
2. I have my contacts saved to Google. Android also automatically recognizes them.
If I go to enter in a name to send a text, it brings a pull-down menu, with duplicates of everyone. One is for SIM, and one is for Google Contacts.
The Contact list IS slow with Google instead of it being saved directly to my phone. I want to save them directly to my phone. If I do so, the "send a text to" list triples, so each name appears three times.
The contact list, I can exclude everything but phone contacts. Is this something I can do in Messaging? Should I give up on Messaging and its many issues and move to Handcent and deal with its own issues?
I check before I go to bed and it is bumped off the main page?? Where are the people who can help at XDA anymore? It seems every topic I post gets pushed away
So... anyone?

Why don't you just go to your contacts page from Gmail on your PC, sort them all out how you want them and then let them automatically sync to your phone?

this is the easiest method!
Go into your contacts, for every contact that has a duplicate, do this:
1. Press Menu Button and select "Edit Contact"
2. When in the edit contact area, press the menu button again
3. Select "Join" and pick the associated duplicate contact.
This worked great for me with all my duplicate Facebook and Google contacts.
Hope that helps.
Are you addicted to facebook? are you in a comment war on a status? do you just always want your notifications right as they happen? then this is the thread for you.
This "hack" will allow you to enable more syncing options from within the app itself after a simple modification. what we will essentially be doing is tricking the Facebook app into thinking we are Facebook employees, thus enabling more options.
Items Needed:
1. ROOTED Android Phone with the Facebook App Installed
2. an SQLite Editor off the market (there are some free alternatives, though i suggest the paid version of SQLite Editor)
3. Some knowledge
4. A File Manager such as Root Explorer is also another route to go about this, but we won't use that method in this tutorial unless it is requested in the replies.
Procedure
1. Open SQLite Manager and grant it root
2. let it scan all the folders and databases
3. once it has finished scanning, scroll down to the Facebook App and tap it. this will load the databases the facebook app uses
4. select fb.db
5. you will now see several fields, select "key_value"
6. this is where the mods will take place. first locate the "seen_employee" key, and scroll to the right
7. long-press the value "false" until the menu pops up
8. select edit field
9. delete "false" and type in "true"
10. press save
11. repeat for the "is_employee" field
12. exit SQLite Editor
13. Open the facebook app
14. press back, then menu, and select settings.
15. tap refresh interval and now if you scroll to the bottom you can see the option for "every minute (beta only)"
16. select it, and you are all done!
This also unlocks the options for sandboxing and ssl checks, and i suggest you change neither of those
if this helped, please, press thanks!
Disaster, my contacts, without provocation disappeared. Please help!
