Well..I learned a long time ago never to rush things..and getting a new update is factored in with that. I'll wait and see what changes (good or bad) AT&T has added to this before I flash it..If they can make it so our phones are completely locked I am sure they will try..I might root mine before hand and then back up what I have already..and then just play the wait and see game..
Mac
Meh I already have it....and I will wait for a developer to mod the "official" release. no way will I load A Samsung/ATT release...They could disable a lot things that keep the device flash able.

+1 to that, screw the bloat-ware updates that will just mess more things up than were fixed. Been running dev roms since day 2 on this phone and I won't ever go back to service provider/manufacturer provided crap again. And Froyo does kick *ss on Eclair.

"official" I get. Since "official" has already been cooked a ton of times, why even mention it in a thread about an official release? And why mention "Meh I already have it"? Guess all those writing classes I took were wasted. I need to not be so darned literal when I read something around here...

^This!!!
I think everyone who has read this understands what he was saying. as in i have 2.2 right now so he can wait till someone mods the official release when its released, not that difficult.
true, i just rooted and working on uploadingthe froyo rom let's see how that goes!
Like I said too..I'll wait and see if anything is disabled or locked down..If it isn't..then I'll load it and run it and benchmark it and wait patiently till this is done for 2.2 and our Captivate..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821397..Nothing wrong IMHO with the way mines running right now..and giving it a week or so to see if there are any issues crop up isn't no big deal to me..

I love rumors, to bad they don't have anything to make this rumor more believable then others.
Hopefully there is some truth to it all.

"As you probably know last Month that Samsung pulled-out the froyo Update files of the Samsung Galaxy S from its servers due to Many System Bugs that Made the Android froyo unstable and laggy."
And the picture shows this is still for the I9000.
Just release the source code all ready and let DG do his magic!
ATT releases scary!

I feel the same way. With the differences between the stock and the 2.1 rom's I've used, I can't believe ATT sent this phone out as it was.
Course, the Captivate has been nothing but problems for me since day one. (Lines in the OLED and they refused to take it back, speaker failure, laggy, etc.)
The unofficial roms have helped, (particulaly the 1.2 GHz OC'd one from September, and the EXT4 lagfix.) I'm holding out for the official 2.2's and hoping they will fix things, but I'm very concerned about what all ATT will do with them.
If it fixes my VPN issue (I can't get any 2.x version to work with our Cisco VPN's) I'll probably at least try stock 2.2.
When is the official relese for Captivate? Early 2011?

With the Captivate's problem list a mile long, this Froyo update better be a miracle-worker.
Anyone else notice the picture in that article says "November, 2011"? 2011, not 2010... lol.
Only 375 days to go until Froyo 2.2! Whoooooohooooo!
Yeah I'll stick with Cognition and not hold my breath.
Wait im confused Haha, is it this year and they accidentally put 2011 or what?

I am running 2.2 at this time. I am wondering if updating to newer version would be wise move. Any advice would greatly appreciated.
I just ordered my g tablet an hour ago but have been investigating for the past day or two. Though I have never even held one of these, I'm pretty certain based on stuff in this forum and elsewhere that all tnt updates have significantly improved the device. Using a custom ROM could improve things further but at the very least, updates from viewsonic should be no-brainers.

If you are already running the TNT custom rom from robeet, then yes update to the latest one, it was the best to me.

An update from Viewsonic is way overdue. The last update, almost a month ago, introduced or accentuated a severe performance issue when the tablet comes out of sleep. According to their website the 12/23/2010 update (3389) was a huge success. True that it introduced some new stuff, but it also crippled the tablets.
3452 popped its head up about a week back, but it must have been UAT. I expect a fully supported and non-UAT update by the end of the month.
I am using TnT 4.1. Give it a shot, very smooth.
Do I need to go thru the all the steps posted by Reeboot for the 4.1 TnT Update? Or can I just down load the update.zip to my "sdcard" and use Clockwork to update? The reason I asked is because I tried and got a an update failure. Sorry that I am asking such NOVICE questions. Any help would be great.

Hi,
They (VS) just posted on another thread ("OTA") that they have a new OTA coming out on 1/20.
I've been using 3452 (downloaded from VS, then used standard recovery), almost since it came out, and I haven't noticed the lag or lag on wake problem. I'm not saying that 3452 doesn't have the lag problem, but no one as far as I know has been able to confirm for 100% sure whether or not 3452 incorporated the kernel fixes for that. I'm just saying that I haven't noticed the problem on my Gtab.
Jim
You need to follow Roebeets instructions and extract the zip file to the SD card. Don't put it in a folder. I left the 2.2 version in a subfolder. It should load right up then. You will need to do the Market fix on the new version to get full market.
Well it didn't go so good, like many others. I did a complete backe up with Clockwork and Titanium Pro. Then I repartitioned to 2048 and swap 0. Then tried to apply the update and it said could not find update, but when I tried to reboot it gets stuck after the "anima Boot" just a black screen. This can't be good. Just to clairify do I need newer verison of Tnt (i have 2.2) to make the update work or will it update from 2.2 to 4.1 with the update?
Edit: Thank you for all ur help. 4.1 is killer. Running, will update if bugs pop up.
Samsung and AT&T are pleased to confirm to #Captivate users that the Android 2.2 upgrade will be available tomorrow (2/24)

if samsung follows course with what they did for the epic we should see the source drop today or tomorrow hopefully. (source for the epic was release 2-3 days before the official push started)
I shall remain skeptical until tomorrow comes and I have froyo, we've seen this song and dance before.
This didn't just come from Samsung's Galaxy S support feed. This was posted on AT&T's Facebook page. Other sites are starting to report on it. Rumor has that it might be the leaked KB1 update that came out earlier today.

P.S. - I guess I should look forward to reloading my apps and re-rooting my phone.
FINALLY. We should start a pool now and try and pick the time when they announce it was pulled because it is bricking phones.

It's going to be KB1, since the fingerprint is already registered in the market. It's not going to brick any phones by itself without help from Kies Mini.

Well we still need the kernel source to post on the samsung site. Hopefully that will post sometime tomorrow but we can't make any native roms until that happens.
Figures, the day I finally decide to root, AT&T decides to release FROYO the next day. lol with that said, if I do root today, will I have to re-root tomorrow when I upgrade?
I thought I'd get it early by flashing cognition 4, as I've used cognition 3.04 and firefly and have been impressed by the wonderful features.
If you're wondering-- Don't bother doing this yourself. I've flashed cog4, and have found it lacking almost all the features that made cog3.04 cool, like having choices for unlock screens, tethering and wap come with warnings that these are pay services for AT&T, and touchwiz is the default launcher.
I'm going back to cog3.04, a far superior rom, later this afternoon.
Nice, 7 months late...
As for Cog 4 or KB1 roms, I'm going to wait until they are on par with current roms in terms of features.
Same thing I plan to do. I'm gonna put this stock Froyo on tomorrow, and once the devs have time to play with the official source and get things good and stable with some tweaks that I find useful, I will flash a custom ROM later on.
I can't imagine this could be better than what I've been experiencing since flashing Andromeda 1.2. Thanks, but no thanks.

+1 Same boat.
I saw this on my facebook and was like, "Squee!" But I'm already using 2.2.1 on the andromeda final rom, and it's so awesome. Somehow I doubt anything AT&T is willing to dish out is going to make a better rom than that. :X
Yeah, I really wish Att &/or Sammy gave us 2.2.1, I almost think its a downgrade from what we already have. Phx 4.5 is great source can really make us have a ton of awesome!

With the 2.2 source for the cap and 2.2.1 source for the i9000, can devs merge them and make a Cap 2.2.1 rom from KB1? I dont understand it all well enough to even guess how far fetched that is.
to upgrade or wait for awhile
if we upgrade we will still be able to run roms like ff and phoenix?
All the doom-and-gloom posts had me worried about the future of the G-Tablet but after these past few days things are really starting to look up. We got two new Gingerbread ROMs (Vegan and CM7), new stock firmware update, OTA update servers are back online, a HDMI cable, and the reassurance from Viewsonic and nVidia that they haven't abandoned their respective platforms. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better pershoot releases a new overclocking kernel! The scores of this thing oc'ed to 1600 are amazing! The only bad thing is all this had to happen right after I sent my G-Tablet in for RMA. I might have to stop visiting these forums lol, makes me want my G-Tablet back even more. Bah, oh well, looks like when I get it back in two weeks or so I'll have a ton to play around with. Anyone else amazed with the turnaround as far as software and support the G-Tablet has made over the past few days?

I hope thats not sarcastic, cause honestly it is a pretty good post I have to say.
I've had my gTab since November and I have to say this has been a great week for this device. Now all we need is ~$75 IPS screen replacement and honeycreams

Ya I heard the TB was getting it June 30th so I would assume roughly a month later for the Charge but I also heard that they were going to just skip giving the Charge GB and go straight to ICS, that's one thing I hate about these cell phone companies, they never give us definite release dates on anything, it's always leak this, rumor that...
Where'd you hear that the Charge would be getting ICS straight from Froyo? It'd be great to get it soon, but I doubt this will be the first phone to get it by any means, and I'm sure they'll have Gingerbread ready before ICS comes out.
Anyway, this is awesome. I knew Samsung was working on Gingerbread, and its already out for the other SGS phones, so it can't be that long. But I'm wondering if TBH got it on there themselves, or if they were able to procure a pre-release build leak. I'm thinking the latter because of the apparently stock ROM otherwise, but then again maybe that was the most stable way to do it.
Its from P3Droid and Team Black Hat, so for those saying its fake, its not. This is great though, apparently that thread worked and they're showing some real interest in this device. With Gingerbread right around the corner, it'd be great to have CM7 to look forward to! Can't wait to see this get out in some build we can use...

Nononono I was reading somewhere, I think it was an Android Forum, they were talking about the Charge not getting Gingerbread and just going Froyo > Icecream, I'm not saying it was going to get it first I meant it wouldn't be getting Gingerbread, it's not confirmed information at all but Gingerbread isn't confirmed either so that's why I'm a bit skeptical
I can't wait to get Netflix to work.
Anyone get Netflix to work on 2.2.1 EE4?
I have read several forums where people have been told by Verizon and/or Samsung reps. that they are not working on gb for the Charge and that they plan to just skip to ICS...although this info is probably coming from some tech support guy in India who can hardly speak English so who knows. I'm just happy to see that SOMEONE is working on getting this thing up-to-date, even if it isn't the corporations that should have released it with 2.3 in the first place...
Well we have a gb leak so they must have been working on it.

Wrong it is in fact and actual GB build for the Charge. I did not see that actual device in the video but I have in fact seen the file and watched it be flashed to a Charge. Its coming just a matter of when the release hits. Word I've gotten is hopefully around Aug time frame.

Completely inaccurate. ICS is not even going to be ready for til 4th Qtr to start with. And as for GB it will for sure be coming to the Charge and in the not to distant future like I just stated.
Not sure why anyone would think that the release of Gingerbread on the Charge will somehow fall into some kind of lockstep timing schedule (30 days after) with the Thunderbolt, when the Thunderbolt is an HTC device and the Charge is Samsung. Two different companies, two different set of internal developers, two different business models etc, etc.
We might get GB next week, or next year, or never, I don't know, but I do know that the release of GB on the TB has nothing to do with the release of GB on the Charge.
Sad that GB is over a year old now, and we're still getting Froyo on the "top of the line" devices and still stressing over when, if ever, we'll get it on three month old devices.
I doubt that any vendors besides the one creating the next Nexus phone has ics. It's nearly half a year away from announcement. Anyways, P3Droid is completely legit. He released gingerbread for the fascinate last week. He ran a video much like that one and people said that he was running froyo and being skeptical. I was running that gb build on my fascinate until I broke it and purchased a charge. If he says he has it, he has it. He apparently has a leaker and I thank God that he does.

Glad to see the Fascinate finally got a real GB. Took Sammy many many months to even give us Froyo which we had a working copy of in January.
I am wondering when we will get a leaked version of this?

You mean 6-8 months old, nowhere near "over a year" old yet. It came out around November-December of 2010, or 6-7 months ago. No need to over exagerate.

Explain. IRC?
The Charge had a GB leak. That is how TBH got a hold of it. I'm thinking other Devs could possibly get a hold of this leak if you know where to look....
But anyway, When I had my DX, TBH was the first to publish a ROM with the leaked GB kernel. They know what they are doing for sure.
I recommend following P3Droid on Twitter. He ususally drops info on a daily basis that I find very interesting. He mentioned weeks ago running netflix on the Charge via Twitter.
