If i use jboogie's clockwork recovery on my untouched 2.1 eclair, would it be possible to recover back to 2.1 from 2.2 just using the clockworkmod? I mean, not even thinking about flashing a rom but just recovering one rom to another and vice versa?
As far as i know you can't go back to 2.1 just restoring a nandroid backup with clockwork recovery.
Consider if you want to upgrade to 2.2, you have to FLASH China froyo 0.26 or flash part of other 2.2 SBF (take a look at the jboogie3 and fritolays instructions to install their roms), no way to upgrade simply using CwM and nandroid backups thus no way to downgrade to 2.1 w/o falshing.
yes but the problem is that i can't downgrade to 2.1...last time i needed to send my defy to motorola and i really needed to downgrade to 2.1 but the phone went dead and i couldn't do anything...so how can i downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1?
I need help please...
Well, in my understandig, if you followed the instructions exactly... then you should be able to downgrade by restoring your 2.1 nandroid backup directly followed by flashing the 2.1bootonly. Or you just flash the original 2.1 (not sure).
Unfortunately your bootloader will stay the one from Froyo and that will be detectable.
I always had downgradebility in mind when flashing new ROM's because I feared I couldn't get replacement and with this instruction from Higgsy:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934366
I thought I was on the save side. Now my phone is broken and I found out that all the precausions were useless. :|
But hardware SHOULD work with this process.
oh wait, maybe i misunderstood, are you on jboogie3? did you followed his direction (china-nandroid-bootloader)?
If yes, just falsh back to 2.1. I did it and i had no troubles.

dont flash that sbf. phone didnt die, it goes into a black screen because you have a non downgradeable firmware. You need to flash a different sbf.

what u can do is make a nandroid back up once you get your phone back. so that when you want to go back to 2.1, flash the latest uk 2.1 sbf then nandroid restore the backup.

But i read somewhere that 3.4 is not downgradable, so is there a special version of 2.2 on which i can flash 2.1 rom? because when i flashed 2.1 on 3.4 version of 2.2, the screen went black...also tell me if i need to flash some sort of bootloader too?
if you have nandroid backup of original rom then yes it is possible .
Phone donĀ“t even turn on
Friends, i think did a bull****. See my drama:
1) Install the normal sbf JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_155-002_DEBLUR_SIGN
2) Install the nandroid 3.4.2_155-Nand.CEE_DEBLUR
3) Install the fixed sbf 3.4.2_155-Fixed.CEE_DEBLUR
4) To revert to Eclair, install the original uk sbf 2.21
4) And then, the result: the phone don't turn on.
Already pullout the battery and the sim chip, and nothing happens. I connect to pc, and the led goes white, but nothing happens. I try to go into bootloader, but the phone don't even turn on.
Please, i'm desperate here. Already searched and keep reading, but find nothing that helps me in this case.
I'm waiting for someone who can maybe give me a hint, or trashed everything and must take to service.

As the title says, here's the Rom.zip extracted from RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.31.651.7_signed_release.exe for those that don't use Windows, or prefer to have their RUU in zip format.
This will flash your phone to 2.31.651.7 STOCK.
http://www.mediafire.com/?m6x4sr682ruk027
Simply rename this to HERCIMG.zip and place on the root of your SDCard.
Power your phone completely off.
Press and Hold VOL DOWN and POWER until your phone boots into HBoot mode.
Wait for it to verify the zip, then click <ACTION> (Trackball) to update, or <SEND> (Green Call) to cancel.
Enjoy!
Here's my guide to rooting .7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804296
Personally..I want to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
I have spent the last four hours searching for this. This needs to be stickied. I'm bookmarking it for sure. This got my phone unbricked..I thought all hope was lost and I would have to call in for warranty support (I got mine refurbed through Sprint last October..so I don't even know if I would still have any warranty support), and see if I could try my luck and getting it replaced, since that is what others have said to do as apparently this file from OP, did not exist.
And so for future reference, so that others don't go mindlessly searching through the forums.
If you
a.) Managed to overwrite your Recovery some how or completely delete it. (I did..and from searching this and many other forums over the past couple hours..I can see I wasn't the only one), and also have no boot (or a corrupted boot loop)
b.) Still have S-ON (You can find this out by powering off your phone and then pressing and holding the power button and the lower volume button), I recommend you turn S-Off for future reference if you're going to be dealing with customer ROMs a lot (so you don't have to go through the hell I just did..). See here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759955
c.) Have an updated Hboot (1.47) (you can also find this info. in part b.)
....then you KNOW that you are stuck. Because you
a.) Cannot flash a ROM in Recovery because you cannot access it.
b.) You cannot access ADB because your phone won't go that far and will only go into fastboot..
c.) But even though you have access to fastboot you can't do ANYTHING like flash a recovery image or a ROM..or anything for that matter..because S is still ON. (this is the "not allow" messages you will see pop up.)
d.) You have bootloader 1.47 so if you for example, were like me couldn't use this file here.. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657086), because it would say there was a newer version and wouldn't install it.
So this file right here..was the only thing getting my phone back to a usable state. And considering that my searches have shown to pretty much give up all hope and have it sent it for warranty repair, then I think this thread deserves a bump for all those that have screwed up.
Yeah..I have to start ALL OVER now from a stock ROM (thank god for nandroid), but at least my phone isn't a dead brick.
Just thought this needed a well deserved bump.
I wonder if there is a RUU for the latest .2?

Forgive me for seeming NOOBish... but I can use this to do the same, then restore Nandroid back and it will keep the PRL/Profile update?
Just wondering... lolz, thanks!
Yup But you will have to reroot. This takes root from you. You will have to reroot with the Hero rooter from Reg or Z4 or one click root. But read read read. And as far as the prl/profile yup it will stick. When your phone boots up after running this just go into settings and updates and choose update profile and update prl don't update firmware. I repeat don't update firmware. After that just reboot and check your prl should be 60675. After that reroot, then flash a recovery and then nand restore. Hope this helps good luck
Remember this returns you to stock you will loose root and recovery..

Why don't you guys just flash NFX's or LS's already rooted and way faster stock sense ROM to update PRL, etc?
Running stock ROM has to be one of the worst things ever after being on custom ROMs for so long.
I tried flashing almost ever sense rom on here pmgrands port, ninfintes stock odex and deodex and his apps 2 sd builds he has like 4 or 6 different builds. Tried flashing liquids builds beta and stable. All gave me a error. So I had to use this. I couldn't flash any sense rom
and it was easier to use this than try to figure out y. If he can flash a sense rom then yea that's the easier way but if not this is a for sure way to get back to stock.

Yup. That's way better and faster. Just go into settings / updates. Then just update prl and profile. Don't update firmware. After you confirm that your updated just nand restore and you should be good.

Thanks for the reply's all... I like Sense and have NFX rom on my Hero, loaded a few ROMS but they won't update, so no worries, when I have some free time I'll sit and do it then. Thread on the second page in the forum
How to unbrick the totally bricked Captivate
Please look around or search before posting. This thread tons of info on how to recover your phone. These things are darn near impossible to break unless you drop it.
There's already a thread opened with the same topic.
On that note, thread closed
So a couple of quick questions.
One (and im asking this because including my og droid i haven't not been rooted in two years) if i return to stock (i.e verizon may replace my tbolt) will it also automatically return my kernel to stock. The only reason i ask is i just did a full data and cache wipe for a new rom and my new adrenaline kernel was still there, which is fine for now but not if i have to take it in.
Second: if it doesnt return to a stock kernel is there a boot.img or even a .zip that will work on clockwork for it.
I did try searching, and i do know how to unroot, I just dont know about the kernel issue once i do unroot.
edit: i did do my own full root, bloatware removed, stock kernel backup before i flashed the kernel, so as long as restoring that backup reverts it to the original kernel that is fine also.

yeah i found the unroot instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423 if anyone else needs them and it has the link to the ruu. I just wanted to make sure it did return it. so all is good.
For what it's worth, my son returned a rooted Droid running CM7 because it had a bad camera, he did a mail exchange and never heard a word about it from Verizon. I'm sure the first thing they do with a returned phone is burn a stock image into it even before they "test" it. Think about it, they can't possibly have someone do a forensic examination of the software on returned phones. I think the main way they have of finding modded phones are due to people admitting that they modded it. Just sayin'.
If you make a backup in CWR (Rom Manager) before flashing a new kernel then you can roll back and restore the old configuration... including kernel.
You can also flash the stock kernel from Rom Manager.
No need to RUU unless it is absolutely needed. But this will cause a lot of extra work (need to re-root, etc)

bump? also looking to go back to stock kernel, without unrooting...
I took my phone from stock, unrooted, flashed new kernal, and then put on a new ROM, and everything worked fine.
I needed to send my phone back under warranty (bluetooth hardware isn't functioning), so I tried to flash the backup of my kernal in hopes of walking it back to stock. When my phone rebooted I'm in the boot screen and unable to re-boot.
If I download the original stock ROM such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413 will I be able to flash it from this boot screen? It wouldn't let me install the new ROM I had in my root, probably because it wasn't the correct kernal.
After that, could I use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333423 Back-To-Stock Heimdall One-Click to take my phone back to true stuck condition?
Sorry for the new questions. I've searched the forum, just not sure which option to chose and don't want to brick a phone.
Thanks,
-Rob
That one you pointed out for ODIN is not a stock ROM; it was a leaked version. I'm not sure what screen you're stuck on, though. Can you get the phone into download mode? If so, go with the Fully Back-To-Stock UVKJ6. That puts the phone at stock 2.3.6 (KJ6) and you should be fine.

In the sixth post is a one click kd1... download & run. Simple
What if my sgh-t959v, gingerbread 2.3.6 is rooted would the one click thing back to froyo 2.2.1 still work if my phone is rooted? So your saying i just have to download the froyo one-click and it will take my phone from gingerbread 2.3.6 to froyo 2.2.1 all by itself? Im really nooby at this please let me know.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Yes, the one-click will basically install the other version on your phone. It will most likely remove root.
You will almost certainly have to backup all the data you wish to preserve with something like Titanium Backup and restore it to the phone as Android and apps don't "downgrade" very gracefully.
I think @FBis251 made a froyo oneclick.
Woops this one was on accident, look at post #9.
Hey can anyone tell me the process of using the kd1 one-click for my sgh-t959v. I heard that i have to go into dl mode and plug in my phone and open the sgh-t959v-kd1-one-click.jar and run it. And the second time i run it i should have flash bootloaders checked. And after that i should do factory reset, clear cache from the android recovery screen? After i run the jar for the first time what will my phone screen be on after the process is done? After ive ran the kd1.jar twice will it take me setting up phone phone steps. Please anyone tell me steps using the kd1-one-click.jar if i have to run it once or twice and have flash bootloaders checked. Thanks.
You should be following this guide when flashing one clicks:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
The one click @bhundven mentioned is this one:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamacid/files/fb/roms/one_clicks/kd1-stock-sgh-t959v-one-click.jar
To be specific, lumin's guide will tell you how to flash a one click. You should be flashing the one click I linked you to (kd1-stock-sgh-t959v-one-click.jar) while following the instructions in that guide.
Good luck!

Yes you need to flash the bootloaders. The GB bootloaders your phone has at the moment aren't compatible with Froyo, so you should follow the instructions to the letter.

Maybe I missed the answer, but will Superoneclick, (version 2.2) root an unlocked T959V running stock Froyo 2.2.1? I think I would like to root frist and remove some of the bloatware - before upgrading the firmware to GB, ICS, or higher.
Yes, it will root froyo.

Great! Thanks for the instant reply.
I think upgrading to GB from a rooted T959V running FROYO is the way I will proceed. If the root is successful, I'll try to remove some or most of the bloatware, then see how I like the phone - before moving up to GB, ICS, or another firmware upgrade.
Hey, Can someone help me fast. I'm doing the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2 and my command prompt never said Installing drivers and I am in download mode but never said installing drivers and zadig didn't open on my computer. My phone is in download mode right now, what should i do? I followed all the steps correctly.
I have Odin also, but I don't know what files to put in odin, I was using the kd1-one-click to go back to stock froyo 2.2.1 and i was in command prompt but never got the (installing drivers) message and zadig didn't open. I need the the files that i can put into odin that will take my phone to froyo 2.2.1 stock. Please someone help!
I downloaded Zadig from the internet and ran it and did the steps in lumin30 post. After I clicked flash on the kd1 one-click, and on the bottom is says flash SBL after my phone finished it loaded into the android page and installed packages and show the tmobile splash screen then the samsung boot logo.(It shows the froyo 2.2.1 boot logo though because i remember how the gingerbread 2.3.6 boot logo. and then i took out usb like lumin said and put into download mode again and checked flash bootloaders and and still says flashing sbl. My phone is now with a black screen and vibrates every 10-15 seconds and my lights on the 4 buttons on the bottom are on. Please I need the files that i need to put into odin to get my phone to boot up!! All my phone does is black screen and vibrates every couple seconds. Someone please help if i can use odin to fix this.??
