FYI, that's the "old" method that does NOT have S-OFF and you CANNOT load a custom recovery.
What is posted in the OP is apparently new and just done late last night. It allows S-OFF and loading of custom recoveries. That's different than what is posted in your link.
Not really sure what is happening at the moment....

Ha ha. No worries, everyone is excited about this. Just trying to keep people from getting confused!
What we know:
1) Originally, on March 18, they had a "dirty" perm-root method that required loading an old version of the software. This gave root, but no S-OFF and no way to load a custom recovery. There are instructions posted for this method.
2) Late last night, they managed to find a "new" root method and gives S-OFF and allows loading a custom recovery. This news is posted in the link in the OP of this thread. At this time, they have not yet posted the method for doing this. I expect we'll see it later today when they wake up. LOL
So patience guys and gals, we'll have FULL root, S-OFF, and custom recovery of our TBs very soon!

Anything that is faster than the ****ing root time on the Incredible is fine by me. That was a painful thing to wait for.

I have been following the developement on the andirc channel. these guys are amazing! As long as HTC's software policies remain what they are today, I will no longer be purchasing moto phones. I had to suffer through the DX's bootloader fiasco after coming from the OG D1. DX devs made it bearable, but custom kernals...no. Thanks for all the work jcase and company!

I'm a relative newb as far as hacking and even I got root + S-OFF + unlocked eMMC + Clockwork, etc working as per the rooting instructions updated today on AndroidPolice. It has been done and these guys and gals are that much more amazing for it.
The only question is: how the hell do you select an option in Clockwork recovery? On my Droid I could use the camera button, but here the Power, Home, and Menu button all just hide the menu. Vol keys only scroll. /confused

I haven't actually rooted mine yet as I'm a wuss and waiting for a one-click, but I read tonight that Kousch (sp?) already made an updated CWM to fix that issue on the TB. Maybe try updating via ROM Manager?

I'm right there with you, I rooted my D1 back before any of the oneclick solutions existed using the Motorola flashing software. I extremely tempted to try installing abd on my Linux machine and give it a shot but I'm a little scared too having never used adb before. And it seems that there's still. A few bugs to work out so I will let them get those straight. I'm hoping too one click root by Tuesday and ROM by months end. Hopefully on CM7.x
Also hi everyone! Been lurking here since I picked up the thunderbolt Thursday morning. Can't wait to crack this thing open. SenseUI is driving me nuts.

Rooted and removed bloat from my TB! I love it!

Hello Board Members. I just signed up today as I picked up my TB yesterday. I'm a former iPhone user (since 2009) and then went to Verizon for a Droid X. This new phone came out, so we dropped the X and went for the TB. Just my short intro to the Android world.
Anywho, for those that rooted the TB, was it a painless process? And the instructions posted on the AndroidPolice post (saw it in Google), do I run all of this from the TB or on the computer?

[Q] Revolutionary vs MoDaCo

I got my MTS4G last week. I rooted my phone before I installed anything. I wanted the ability to use my full version of Titanium. In this I suceeded.
BUT
When I tried to use my copy of ROM Manager, it will not let me do anything with it because I need the Clockwork Mod. My phone is not listed.
Here, I keep seeing references to MoDaCo.
When I had my G2, I rooted with a long process through adb then updated back and forth with ROM Manager. Mostly I had the CM7 nightlies.
Now, there is nothing for my new (replacement) phone. Just saw a new one posted yesterday but it needs MoDaCo to install.
So, where do I go from here?

That's really just the Modaco recovery. There is no "official" koush ClockworkMod Recovery for the MT4GS. And there is still not yet support for the MT4GS in ROM Manager so you're not going to see your device there yet. Just keep your eyes peeled, sooner or later we'll get full official support once they realize how kick ass this device truly is!
Agreed. New devices don't always have full dev support right off the bat. It usually takes a couple of months before CWM supports a device and another month or two before it sees CM.
so there is still hope we will be supported officially? I am s-off and rooted, I have been waiting to do the same to my boyfriend's phone, because he has no experience dealing with any small problems that may come up, like the charging issue. I am hoping by getting supported with an "official" recovery he will let me root his phone, and CM7 would be awesome....still waiting on the kernel though....

I mean there's some hope. We had word that koush was working on an official recovery but I haven't heard anything in a long time from anyone so who knows. If he doesn't know how to handle any issues that may come up then you'd be better off not rooting his phone honestly. The kernel will come out eventually but probably another month or so. CM7 will be a while too, as there aren't many devs out there that care about our phone - which is unfortunate cause it's such a beast. But for the meantime there are some great stock(ish) ROMs in the dev section and the support for them is incredible!

Quick question to the OP. Have you modified this to work with the A2? If not we've been down this road already and there will be consequences if you try to perform a recovery from a backup with this

Guys as JRW 28 has said.
This has been tried and done with fatal issues. Until nytroglcerin33 gets the official CWM package updated, there is not much I would try with this, we have done backups and restores, as well as attempted a flash or two with NO SUCCESS.
I am not trying to be a pain here, but there are some of us who have been working on these things for almost two months since this phone came out, try a search in the Atrix2 section next time as there is a thread already about this, and until we get the bootloader unlocked we are going to have very limited abilities on this phone to develop, if you want to help out someplace go jump in there.

No worries, that was not aimed at anyone, it was more in genral, so that anyone who reads this sees that this is a very slippery slope right now, we have had at least 2 people that we know of, who bricked their phones using the / a similar method that was in the OP here.

I wouldn't say I have had no success... I'm able to backup and restore system and data using that atrix 2 recovery. In fact, the bionic one worked as well but I only used it a couple of times.
I've been using it to go back and forth between 55.11.16 and 55.13.16, 8 or 9 flashes so far without a brick.
inb4 next flash bricks my phone
I think we should have our moderator swoop in and sticky the important things. It seems were not getting much love from him around here. It's kind of an annoyance to me that topics fall back a page or two then are reintroduced as a new thread a week later. Just saying.

[Q] Simple question: Where can I download the Hack Kit?

I checked the forums and it seems some people pissed the the guy off and he closed the thread as of 11/16/11. But I don't see any links to the actual kit. Everything I read has been out dated and points back to that thread that has been closed. Can someone please direct me to it?
Also, this phone is already on Gingerbread. So can someone tell me the best tool to use to root if the phone is already on Gingerbread? Will the ACE Hack Kit work on a Gingerbread device? I also found Visionary at Modaco but it's only for Froyo.
Huh, interesting. I didn't realize the Hack Kit was removed. Looks like it was just taken down yesterday. That's a shame. That was really the best tool to use. I haven't seen any other tool for months. And I believe there are some changes in the Inspires manufactured in the past couple of months so the older methods may not work. I could be wrong about that though. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if another dev pick up the torch and releases a new tool.

No. Since yours was a froyo version the old hboot won't cause issues. Even though you upgraded. It's something about the hardware in the new ones that is incompatible with the original hboot.

From what I've seen/read - it should work with new ones too, however the issue that comes up is with that hboot installed it will take 15-20 minutes to boot, and vibrate for like a full minute while booting, leading a lot of users to think they're hosed. From what I've read, patience is the key to using that method (full downgrade vs partial downgrade) with newer shipped devices. I can't speak from experience though

It only has to use that hboot to utilize the exploit to get s-off. A new hboot is flashed after s-off is gained - I believe.

Need Help with Rooting

Hi I have read everything I can possibly think of to root my G2X. I bought it a month ago and it came with 2.3.3 software. I have been jail breaking Iphones for years but this G2X has me lost. I just cant seem to get it and need help. I dont want to run any customs roms or such just want supper user privileges. If anyone has the time to help I would appreciate it. I tried to root via Z4 GingerBreak ETC. I tried supper one click and have got no were. Anyways Thanks for every ones time
Why couldn't you use one-click? There's nothing to it. It's completely automated.

Super oneclick doesn't work on 2.3.3.
Follow the links in my signature for rooting the G2x. Start with the clickworkmod recovery (does NOT require root first) then follow the instructions for rooting. Only took me a couple of minutes...and i'm an idiot, lol.

Not exactly one click but it worked for me. Plus cyanogen is a pretty respected source. Good luck. Also try Tsugi's custom rom for the g2x. Its actually not really custom. It is stock 2.3.4 gingerbread that was released for the European version of this phone. Its incredibly stable and lightning fast. Enjoy!!!

First you need to dl the rom you want to your phone (look for ones that are pre-rooted i believe they all are it should say if it is). Then you need to do nv flash recovery. After this you enter recovery and perform your back up and then follow the steps to flashing the rom you chose. Go to the forum the look for the guide to flash nv flash shouldn't to difficult just follow every step and your should be good
There is a new exploit that works on 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. Super One Click has been updated to include the new exploit. Search for it and download it to root phone without needing to flash Clockworkmod Recovery.

[Q] No one's playing with the LG LS840 'Viper'?

Ok, so having transferred back to Sprint after an arduous ordeal with Verizon, I now have my new LG LS840 'Viper'[A.os v2.3.3] and have rooted the system. This was definitely not my preferred choice (I wanted the HTC Evo LTE), but it seems like you all got to them first. Now having said this, I find it alarming how few (if I manage to find any @ all) posts there are about the above mentioned LG.
I have run into a few problems. As in things like; I have root and su# capability. System apps. which require root seem to work fine(i.e. mem. optimizers and CPU controls etc.). That is until I try Clockwork Recovery which sends the device into reboot. Also, trying to access the bootloader in the common android fashion (Pwr+Vol.Dn) does nothing more than send me to a 'Factory Data Reset' option.
Now please understand that I am new to LG, as all my experience is with HTC, both at Sprint prev.(HTC EVO 4G wi-max) and at Verizon (HTC Thunderbolt LTE) I think I simply got conned into this fone.
So, If any one reading this post has any experience with the LG Viper, or any other LG device, or both (preferably), Please, give me the run down on how these devices work or any input on the above listed issues.
Also, any links to information (etc.) will be highly appreciated.
Thank You, JLM
p.s.
I should also probably mention that I rooted the device using the SuperOneClick method listed @ Androidcentral.com
I have LG P509 Optimus T to access recovery home, volume up and power. I'm using AmonRa 3.0.6 but same button combination for Clockworkmod recovery.

LG
LG is a good brand was thinknig of getting it
I've had this phone for about 6-8 weeks now and still cannot find any roms to flash.
Jelly Bean release
I get the feeling the Viper is suffering because of LG's decision to release it with GB when ICS had been available for so long. Maybe there's some light at the end of the tunnel. I did find at least one rumor saying it will get a Jelly Bean Update in the Sept/Oct time frame. It might be enough to get some interest back into the device. Without some interest on the part of Devs, this isn't going to move much at all. It might already be past a critical adoption time too.
Since I'm a noob, I can't post a link, but go ahead and Google:

I'm quite disappointed with this phone and the lack of development. It's been a great phone despite the fact that something fried inside my first one, and now my 2nd may be suffering from the same thing. I might keep this phone as a spare and upgrade to something better soon.
I'll have to agree with earlier, this little thing (my main is a SII Epic 4g Touch) is not bad. My girl had got one, said she was having problems so I switched, giving her my Photon 4g, but since I've had it, and rooted it, I haven't had a lick of problem out of it. One thing that has surprised me is also the what has seemed an extreme lack of support on it (I've had a custom rom on every one of my phones since my first cappy 3 years ago). Another is the external speaker....my goodness!! this thing is twice as loud as my SII....of course LG has been slowing falling off the bandwagon, but somehow holding on in the android race. And tho I'm a Galaxy S freak, this phone is alright. For free, a hell of a deal.

from what ive found on the internet the only way to have custom roms on the lg viper is to flash back to GB with the lg flashtool and then flash a rom. I think the bootloader is locked and that's why you cant do anything with it. I haven't tried to unlock with any programs or anything cause I don't think im that advanced but if you want to try go ahead. this is all just info ive gathered from the internet though. I have managed to root ics zvk though. just don't freeze or uninstall google play movies and tv. it gives a security error.
if you want to root zvk follow these steps though;
1) install lg flashtool and flash phone to zvi
2) root with Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15
3) install ota root keeper(voodoo ota rootkeeper)
4)temp unroot in ota rootkeeper
5)install update to zvk
6)restore root in ota rootkeeper
7)enjoy!!!
It's late, but I'm playing with it. I'm using a thread to summarize what I find.
