No. Only use D2G Roms on a D2G. There is a tool (git-r-done rommer tool) that claims to make D2 Roms work on D2G, but there is an element of risk. The only rom for D2G I know of is fission. Everything else I would consider unstable.
I liked the vanilla UI on fission, but for me the performance was lacking.

On droid forums there are a few more roms for the d2g, notably fenom by fenuxx and angel rom by 13th angel, I personally use fenom because its stock debloated and with a few speed hacks to make it run faster, runs amazingly on my phone, and it can also use fission themes.

questions about rooting - how to, and what will it help with
Hi all:
Have had a D2G for about 6 months. Want to root it. Have tried z4mod multiple times and it doesn't work.
1. Can anyone help me either get it to work or recommend another method?
2. once it is rooted, how can I use the new root access privileges to optimize my phone's performance - my biggest problem is that it has become very slow. I have tried to not clutter it with useless apps and try to run things from the phone itself as opposed to SD storage, but it is still slow.
Thank you!

I don't know what kind of slow did you get, but I assume you're on Stock rom, right ? maybe you can try using a custom rom such as CM, Miui, Liberty or Apex

Guys I'm a newbie in this forum so please guide me which rom is better.........dexter's froyo or that one of khalpowers.
I'm totally confused. And if someone could tell me that if I install one of these roms
will the installed apps and other data like contacts or stuff will remain or be removed.
Please also state the disadvantage of these roms as compared to the stock 2.1
For russian speaking users i recommend RusMod.
For everyone else - use Khalpowers mods with mine kernel from fastboot.
Or Dexter's 1.3 with Mioze7ae patch.

they all good for me ,just have to choose which one suits you ,Dexters is the original Froyo and others is optimization based on the Dexter's rom..if you like the Original one ..choose Dexter..or elase..you can try others
i think you should try the Froyo of Khalpowers ,it's base on Dexters and xavwanted's and it's the latest froyo till now..many user discuss about the khalpowers and you can get more help in the froum.
"if I install one of these roms

yes ..coz after you finished installation of Froyo ..you need to wipe everything ..so eveything on your phone Memory will gone..(everything in SD card ..Photo,vdo,songs..etc..is fine)
"Please also state the disadvantage of these roms as compared to the stock 2.1"
1. you can use flash in your web browser watch youtube in webpages..(performance not good lag.. due to the CPU ti 3440 and ram 256..)
2.you can move your apps to your sd and you can play bigger games with large data
3. you can use many apps that require running on OS 2.2
4. you can use 3.5mm TV out...
i might be wrong in some point....so it's just my experience
Thanks for replying guys!
please could you explain me what does fastboot patch does and is it neccessary.
Also for enabling apps to sd in khalpowers rom do i have to do something else apart from creating a partition?
And how can i use hdmi cable to play games on tv with this rom??
help?
Guys one more thing
if i want to return to stock 2.1 I saw the video made by reveren the stock 2.1 file is of cincinati bell so would this create any network problems as i am not using cicncinati bell.
I know this must be a stupid question but please do answer!
How to use the 3.5 mm to mirror my phone on the tv....which wire is required?

Hi all, long time lurker here.
At the title says, I own a Korean original Motoroi, here in Korea on SKT. The current ROM I'm running is STSKT_N_79.33.50R .
Like some others on this board have noted in the past, this phone, with it's slower CPU, is an under-powered P.o.S. When I first got this last year it had a 2.1(.1?) ROM on it and in December last year Motorola graciously decided to release 2.2 for it. Anyway, I'm sure most of you already know that.
Upgrading this thing to 2.2 was like my friend's iPhone 3G when he upgraded it to iOS4: it was a slow, buggy mess, randomly locking up, rebooting and "losing" images on the SD card after talking some photos ("Can not write to SDcard" errors.) - among other things. To make matters worse, there seemed to be a huge bug in the Korean/English soft-keyboard that meant the input application would often crash during text entry.
Then, a few days after Motorola Korea released the 2.2 upgrade with all the above problems, they then seemed to pull it and reverted back to the old 2.1 version on their website. A few weeks later, they released 2.2 again, perhaps with those bugs fixed.... but with the same version number, thus preventing the updater program from updating MY phone to whatever version they have on the site now. Grrrr!
Anyway, enough of that long story, here are my questions:
1. What can I do with this phone now? I see a lot of custom ROMs here for the XT720 Milestone, but I know that it's a slightly different phone to the Motoroi... also, I've been led to understand that the Motoroi has a locked bootloader... right?
2. If I can re-flash roms on this... what custom rom would be suitable? There's so many versions here on this board that it's a little confusing. Also, what would be the procedure(s) to install it?
3. If there's no suitable custom rom here for this... can/how I re-flash this thing back to the stock, original 2.1 SKT rom? At least that was slightly faster and more stable than the 2.2 rom...
Well, one thing I can't complain about this was the price: I paid only 20,000원 for this on a 1 year contract spending only about 15,000원 a mouth. SKT were practically giving them away: I can see why, now.
TIA.
hello newbie here.......
i have the same problem before when i upgraded my motoroi to 2.2.1 , but i just found out that you can still root, overclock and use custom kernel...
- use superoneclick to root
- to overclock i use milestone overclock 1.4.2 version and setCPU
- if you want to use custom kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990735 and use raser_motoroi_boot.7z
- i also using this to replace bootanimation and fonts http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888379
- my motoroi xt720 is now overclock to 1100g with 74vsel so far so good.....
- you can also use MOTOMIZER [optional]
hope this will help you dude....by the way i im also here in korea ang using KTF SHOW usim on my phone
here you guys go this guy made ROMS for motoroi, im not sure how well these work as i have not tried them. he has posted a bunch of them. the are for motoroi so you must start with motoroi firmware. and i cannot read his homepape as its in korean. so check em out. http://code.google.com/p/xt720/downloads/list
i will try this and according to dev. "No Rooting ROM created by the state, and wrote more attention to the theme, need to maintain a more stable and allows fast was created." but your phone must have 44R nonSKAF original rom, in think that is 2.1 update!
In KyuHyuk ROM for XT720 1.5.1 by removing some of the files have been lighter.

2. Factory reset, as soon KyuHyuk ROM can go to seed.
3. Apply a theme and icons HTC

6. Camera silence
7. If you install from SKAF may be used for Nate and Freezone.
8. Apply OverClock 720MHz

13. Remove Email

Kernel 2.6.35.7, build GRJ90,
SOFTWARE VERSION LGP920-V20c-APR-25-2012
I have tried rooting thru superoneclick 2.3.3 and tried Megatron_Root_Dan_Rosenberg
with superoneclick, stops at step#7 and with megatron, get the message ädb"is not a valid command.
can someone please help me with a step by step guide for rooting the v20c as i have tried umpteen times with the above rooting tools but failed miserably.
I am more of a noob than a seasoned campaigner, please be patient.

Megatron Root
Hi,
Megatron root definitely works.
It took me many goes before it actually worked...It kept saying something about files being "corrupt" (it was a while back so cannot remember exact details).
The phone would reboot a few times, and end up being the same and unrooted.
What worked for me was i did a factory reset, and then ran Megatron root again. It may have had something to do with the number of apps i had on the phone. It then finally worked.
Hope that helps.
Hi Paki0402 and vicdo1000
Successfully rooted, I had to rely heavily on google translate for the german lingo
thanks again.
can you also help me with the best way to install a custom rom for V20C? which rom will be the best in terms of eye candy, fastest, smoothest ( may not be all in one rom)
help greatly appreciated !!! ppl like you make us noobs feel protected !

This is a bit late, but adb is android debugging bridge, and is required to transfer files to root locations without su privilages. Adb is part of the android sdk and in the package of platform tools. To use adb you have to install it and configure it, look on youtube, then from command prompt you can us it.

Hi Schubeir,
CM7 is always a winner in terms of a good stable ROM, but you will lose the goodies that make our phone unique (3D as well as HDMI). Very fast and smooth, and because the ROM includes Theme Chooser, there's a huge selection of themes to choose from that will change your entire Android interface.
I'm currently using Promethius v1.3. Fantastic ROM...fast/smooth and keeps most of the stock LG apps. Feels like stock software, only much much faster and everything works! however, this version i dont think will work with your current baseband. you wont get and service if you flashed it.
Ultimately, there are many good ROMs to find in the Development section, so just have fun trying them out. whats good for me might not be good for you.
by the way, do you have ghost calls on V20C?
Hi,
Did not wait long enough on V20C to know if there were ghost call issues!! the UI was behaving like stop n go n stop n go, lagging every now n then, hence wanted to root and change over to custom rom.
I need to have the 3D and HDMI, purchased this model only for this. I am at present using the DNA_GB 3.3.3 based on the new V21E rom. when i flashed the ThiaiZ O3D V2.7.1 GB.------ NO NETWORK!!!!!
Was it due to the 21D baseband in the ROM? do I then need to flash the 21e Baseband?
which do i flash first, the base band or the ROM?
Cant believe I am trying all this at the young age of 52!!!
Thanks lots for all your help.

OK Schubeir,
I had the exact same problem so no problems. Yes the baseband is what is causing the lack of network.
I know there is any easier way to flash baseband, but i found it quite easy flashing my phone back to a stock v21e kdz, and then flashing a custom ROM built using the v21e as a base. The reason for this is V21E is proven not to have ghost calls, so thats the biggest benefit. it also has much better battery life. And finally, you can flash Promethius which has all the stock goodies (3D, HDMI).
Follow this link and go to point 3 - LG Flash tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491870
you must follow it step by step word for word or it wont work. Of course you will need to download the V21E kdz file...jut do a search and you should find it.
After flashing back to stock V21E, root again with Megatron, then flash ROM as you normally would. then flash GAPPS (google Apps) right away also.
Bit long winded, but its a one of and its well worth it getting your phone setup right. With Promethius, the phone runs awesome!
Cheers

For better batterylife, temperatures and peformance, better sound and display. A good custom kernel will improve the phone a lot bro imo.

This is also my first nexus device... I have always had HTC before and rooted every phone that I had... This is the first phone that im happy with stock rom, but I would like to change the kernel... My question is how quickly will the stock rom be posted up with every update... I know I'm not going to really want to wait...

I've had Android phones for a few years but never rooted until I got my Nexus 7. I've loaded roms but havent delved into it too hardcore. This is also my first Nexus handset device.
As far as rooting - the replies here have outlined the benefits. If you simply root and unlock bootloader, then you can still receive the OTA updates. however, if you load up a rom, you have to wait until the developer incorporates the updates - unless, the rom already has anticipated and tweaked those issues in a positive way.
If you need to ask why you should root then you probably shouldn't; it's not a question of Chrome vs Dolphin or Nova vs Stock Launcher..
Here's a nice little article: http://google.about.com/od/socialtoolsfromgoogle/a/root-android-decision.htm.
Read around as much as you can and don't use a toolkit. Go the route that is described in the link in my signature. Make it a learning experience!

google usually posts the full stock images within a couple weeks of OTA.
I rooted my first device (Galaxy S2) when I became tired of Touchwiz.
I rooted my Motorola RAZR HD because there was no possibility to silent the camera shutter sound without root (I renamed the system sound files).
Now I rooted my Nexus 5 because I'm using Greenify and AdAway which only works with root access. I'll also try different Recoveries, Kernels etc. to increase the performance/battery life in the future.
Titanium Backup. 'Nuff said.
This is the first phone I haven't rooted within minutes of owning, partly because I've been busy and party because I'm really quite happy with it. Unfortunately I need root for ad blocking so I think I'll be doing it today.

Adblocking through hosts files. Also you can use droidwall to select which apps get cellular data and which apps get wifi only and which apps get no internet access. Secure settings app will allow you to set conditions to set and remove your lock pin based upon conditions set by an app like tasker. I use this to enable lockscreen when not in range of my bluetooth headset or home wifi.

no reason at all!!! but it's fun to flash things.... and kernel upgrades if they are done well can make you feel a bit more elite with some nice things. depends on the device and there is a lot of gimmickry with roms and kernels out there. but this being a nexus there might not be as many issues with modifications since there aren't so many manufacturer proprietary binaries and unusual dependencies. but sometimes on the kernel end they can upgrade sound and video drivers, or adjust parameters that effect battery life and things. my old captivate would go as much as 4 days to a charge becasue the gingerbread and even froyo development comunity on the i9000 was so good. the infuse i replaced that with never got that level of kernel support.
if you don't have an expressed need to root, like maybe for unlocking a feature the carriers took out such as teathering, or removing factory spyware like carrier iq (not that they do that anymore to my knowledge) or certain applications then rooting isn't really needed.
Hello.
I have a Galaxy Note 3 currently running the Vodafone official Lollipop ROM. I find it very sluggish and would like to speed it up.
Would I see any benefit in rooting my phone and going to CM13 or an alternative Marshmallow ROM ?
I have 2 apps that I use constantly - IBM Verse and VPNCilla, both of which I use for work. Would both of these apps work
on a custom ROM, as this would be a deal breaker if they did not.
If all of the answers to the above were yes, where would be the best place to download the necessary ROM etc, as it has been a while since I have done this.
Many thanks,
Simon

Yes marshmallow is more smooth relative to lollipop.
As for your apps it depends on the ROM, if the ROM you are using has a VPN bug it means you won't be able to use vpncilla properly ,just check known issues of the ROM before flashing to make sure
XDA is the good place to find development
