Is the goldcard phone specific or model specific. Can I use the same goldcard on both if our inspires or will each phone need its own goldcard?

Yes you can use the same gold card.
Thanks. Rooting the wife's phone tonight to improve her battery and ringtone volume.

I'm surprised you waited so long
Lol. I let her take it to work stock. She's already *****ing about battery and volume.

I have a related goldcard question...I'm purchasing a 16gb goldcard...on it's way. Is there an easy way to transfer goldcard from the old sd card to the new one or will I have to go through requesting a new image for it?
The image is card specific.
You'll have to remake it if you want to make the 16 Gb card gold card. It isn't necessary though. You only need the goldcard for rooting. After you are rooted you don't need it anymore.

i used it an ARIA. all I want is to root the device.
have you tried using a gold card? its pretty simple.
I too am waiting for unrevoked. The gold card isn't all that simple if you never used adb.
according to att1, unrevoked will not work on the Inspire

The exploit that unrevoked was able to use on previous HTC models has been plugged on the more recent HTC models, including the Desire HD and the Inspire.
It might work but with out downgrading and s-off there isn't much they can do.
As of now the only Rom that can be rooted is 1.32

on SD CARD? because I find that inside my SD CARD is really messy with all these weird folders. I want to wipe all of it and start clean in the SD CARD.
If I do, will it mess up my phone, root, and other phone system settings?
please answer. thanks .
Yes but you have to make it back into a gold card.

Why? My Gold card is in a Jar on my desk. I have an 8 gig with just music and a 32 gig with 16gigs of whatever. I use it mostly. I never made it into a gold card.
Yeah, there is absolutely no reason you have to make it a gold card. I have formatted my non-gold-card SD card a couple of times when I felt like things were getting messy there.
I should mention that some of my apps stopped working (presumably the ones that were installed on the SD card) after the format, though I was not concerned about that since I was just getting prepared to flash a new ROM at the time.
I read somewhere here that a gold card is needed to flash a different ROM

No, you only need the gold card to root. After that its useless lol from the way I read at least . I have flashed at least 100 times with out a gold card , at least 100 lol

The only time the gold card is used is to bypass superCID on the initial downgrade. So no you don't need it to flash custom roms.

Once rooted, u don't need GC anymore. Just make sure the rom u install preserves root.

This isn't necessary unless you are s-on, you can still flash from non rooted to rooted with s-off. The gold card is used to bypass the superCID so you can downgrade the radio so you can s-off. Once you are s-off you can flash any rom through hboot just as you would a radio.
I still have the gold card I made when I originally rooted my inspire about 6 months ago. This should still work with the new hack kit for the GB update, right?
Yes it will
sweet. thanks. better safe than sorry, right?
Once I have the rom's and other upgrades flashed that I want, do I need to keep the goldcard in the phone? Does it have to be in anytime I flash a different rom? Or just for the rooting process?

You can leave the goldcard in or remove it and use any card you want. Gold card is only needed for the initial downgrade to acquire root/s-off.

If a do a CWM of my Desire S, can i restore it on another Desire S?
Thanks
it's generally not recommended but I think if I were in a situation where I didn't have another backup I would probably try and use another but only from another desire s.
However, it may just be easier to transfer a ROM by putting it on the SD card and putting that sd card in the other phone depending on the situation

Why would it not be recommended? Both of the devices are the same right?
It won't lead to corruption will it?

I heard that there were files specific to the phone but after looking it up a bit more it seems to be OK to do so.

Oh right haha, I was thinking about it. Sometime ago I thought I was going to get a replacement handset, and I thought about rooting it, putting my old sd card in, and restoring my backup, then it'll be exactly the same_!!

yeah when my brother had the eMMC problem i tried putting my backup on his phone. Didn't work though But i think it would be good if someone tried it out sometime

Argh right.
Did it get an error in Recovery? Md5 mismatch?
It probably didn't work, cause his emmc chip was fried

Yeah that was why. But I was trying it before I found out (thanks to ben_pyett) hoping it was a bad flash

I tried it today and it worked perfectly.
How can i get the stock rom here?
I did it yesterday and it worked fine (in the end).
Be aware that revolutionary installs clockworkmod 4, which can't restore backups taken by clockworkmod 5. When I flashed clockworkmod 5 onto the new phone the restore worked perfectly.
Hey
I just got a Telus Desire HD yesterday and I managed to put Blackout ICS on it.
And then I tried putting my Fido sim card on it but it didn't work.
Can somebody point me in the right direction for getting the phone unlocked?
Thanks

If you're rooted using aahk, boot into boot loader and select sim unlock. Just fyi use the Desire HD section next time
Also, you're very late to the dhd scene, development is starting to dry up now, the device is nearly 2 years old and HTC aren't giving it any more updates or so they say
