Post your speeds! - Thunderbolt General

Well I figured since we are on the eve of the Thunderbolt I'd get this thread up and running. As the first LTE phone on Verizon please share with us the speeds you are getting, your location, and if possible a screen shot or picture.
Since I opened the thread I'll go first.
12MBps Down, 30.5Mbps Up

Very pleased with the results, guess Verizon doesn't want the same criticism as AT&T so they over compensated on the upload lmao. Ran the test 10 times, saw the upload as high as 38Mbps, and as low as 29Mbps. Download speeds varied from 7-15Mbps. not too shabby

holy ****!

6.31mbs download and 29.17 mbs upload speed. Near Philadelphia

I see that you have the charger plugged in. Is this because performing a single speed test drains the battery JK! I seriously want to know what real world battery life before I get this device.
Awesome speed BTW!

I can't wait to check it out tomorrow.

Can not wait! Finally after all this time....

No idea on battery life quite yet. It was plugged in because it was just out of the box lol

Here's mine:
Location: Washington DC

Now THAT is 4g - props to Verizon for building a truly "next level" type of network.
I hope verizon ****s on At&t from a marketing perspective.

I have got 5-10 down and 30-55 up

4.4mbps down and 31mbps up Northern VA

http://media.ziptied.com/members/files/12/speedtest.jpg
northern VA

1800 on Quadrant. Not that it means anything but coming from the Incredible it is definately faster.

here is mine, VZW is effin fast...
EDIT, re-posted pic, got even better...

Part of me is weary that once everyone starts to get LTE service on Verizon, it's going to bog down and not be nearly as amazing as it is currently. I definitely can't see how they intend to keep their upload rate at 20+ mbps lol

15-20Mbps down in Troy, Michigan.

I just clocked 15 down and 28 up in North Atlanta. Needless to say I havent gotten much of anything done at work.

Those are some big time #'s. I'm currently getting on average during peak hours 4.8 to 6.2 mb on the DL and a very steady 1.4 mb on UL with my Nexus One on T-Mobile. How much faster can you DL a web page? Does the phone react to those big DL #'s, can you tell the difference in speeds by watching the web pages DL on your phone???? Those are very impressive speeds, Is it worth changing carriers and phones for the increased speeds? Are the increased speeds going to give a better user experience?

A lot of these questions can't be answered right now. Wait until there is actually a decent amount of load on the 4G network. Give it a month or 2, then these speed tests won't be so astronomical anymore, and we can get a sense of how 4g REALLY is. (I hope the network really is that good and we can get something like 10d/4u on heavy traffic)

HSPA / HSDPA question

I did an at&t pushed update on my wifes stock motorola bravo last night.... After doing the update I noticed under mobile network type her phone now has HSPA. I am on a rooted HSUPA rom on my inspire and under network type on my phone it say HSDPA.
Is my wifes stock phone getting a better connection than my rooted rom'd phone.
Thanks
Have you tested each devices throughput yet?
Just using speed test and they were close to the same ... That being said I live in a crappy location for checking speeds using speed test or something .... I can run a test and got 2.0 down 1.5 up and then hit the restest button and get
100k down and 100k up.
So my speed test results are all over the place
If I remeber correctly on her bravo under network connection type before the update last night it use be UMTS
Well the rooting process and flashing a Rom breaks the "4g" connection. I was on the inspired saga Rom yesterday and it showed the h+ icon so I can I speed test. I couldn't even get above 1 megabit so I returned my phone to stock because I'm getting this one replaced. I ran a speed test again and get 2 to 2 and a half down and 1 up

That's incorrect. I'm running CM7 and consistently see low 2's to mid 3's down during off peak times and 1.3-5 up.

You caught my attention when I read that you were getting 5mb/s HSUPA speeds. But then I looked at your screenshot and you're maxing out at 1.3 up just like the rest of us (your higher upload speeds have the wifi icon next to them).

I see how what I wrote could easily be mistaken. What I meant was 1.2 to 1.5 up. I'm sorry, I worded that poorly.

I think AT&T is on to us...

I don't know if this is just a local issue but it looks like the upload data speeds are getting throttled.
So here are some speed samples using CM7 (latest stable)

Speeds are still fine here. Probably just an issue in your area. The Tulsa market is always varying widely between 1Mb/s and 6 Mb/s. Fastest speeds are usually after midnight when traffic volumes are lower.
i just ran a test in the bronx and i got 2.84 down and .19 up. i had a similar issue yesterday but i thought it was teh network.
why would they do this now though, wehn they just releaesd an update to enable hsupa on stock roms...?
Yeah the download is fine... it's the upload that seems to be throttled (or very inconstant).
Nothing has changed. And I know for a fact that they are installing a **** ton of circuits daily to help the backhaul issue. There are too many variables to even guess why your speedtests app is giving you low numbers. I will say that they are doing lots of work so maybe its related ?

This is most likely.
I'm on CM7 7.0.3 and hit 2.8Mbps down and 1.2Mbps up.
I find the speedtest results to vary widely from test to test. Not sure if that's the network, the application, the weather, solar flares or cows jumping over the moon, but I wouldn't draw any conclusions without a long-term test. Just over a week ago I made a post asking about losy signal - turns out AT&T was upgrading the cell sites. Now I'm getting over 5MB down and 1.5 up. So be careful you don't go on a wild goose chase.

Last couple of days, though, its stabilized.
Now watch, as soon as I post this, it'll start bouncing around again.

I wonder about the phone itself. I notice that My bars are constantly going up and down and I am not even moving. I also notice WIFI signal strength jumps around the same way. /Shrug...
I know chasing speed test can be a wild goose chase... I have satellite internet at home and dealing with speed issues is normal part of the day.
With that said I've noticed lately the my generally good upload speeds have seem to be restricted. Is it coincidence the slowdown is at a time when AT&T is rolling out updates to users... maybe who knows.
1. Tests vary. Fact of life.
2. It's AT&T... don't expect much and you won't be surprised.

Speeds wildly vary from place to place. Just moving a feet feet even makes a huge difference. This is why AT&T is trying to buy T-Mobile...to have the needed bandwidth to stabilize their data network.

Got 5.4mb/s after update.

Just wanted to show off. How do I take a screen shot if im not rooted. All the apps in the market say you need root.
Use a digital camera...
There's a way with the SDK, but I don't remember how to do it.
Using the sdk is easy. Once you download it, you can have it setup and working in under ten minutes. It's a pain to have to do it this way, but if you don't want to root, it is a viable option.

I'm using one of Adams roms. Says name in sig not sure if that helps.. never have changed my radio since whatever it put during rooting process.

The sad thing is I ran a speed test on my old iPhone 4 (used by my wife now). First test right off the bat I got 5.2 MB/s down LOL. The "4G" Inspires aren't much faster than the "3G" iPhone 4's due to AT&T's bull****. If I recall correctly the iPhone 4 is HSPA but not HSPA+. The Inspire is theoretically capable of 14.4 MB/s but we're only getting half that if we're lucky. Only when AT&T gets true 4G (LTE) will we start to see the 4G LTE phones start to pull away speed wise. Anyway, 2-4 MB/s is more than enough for most typical smart phone tasks, these days anyway.

I think everybody streatches the truth(carriers), but it is "mobile" technology but ya 2-3 is just about right, but in this same area my bros iphone4 only gets 1-2 so i was just impressed a lil at first, my G2 in this same area got 8 at best but 7 constantly in my house. 5 when im out and about. And just wondering what type of network is this phone really using? What is umts?
Was wondering what sideloader update? I get roughly 6.5mbps here by the Texas motor speedway.
I have a HTC inspire 4g
Using coredroid 6.6
Also wondering what does overclocking do to your phone?
I have no-frills
And also what does the governer do?
On there is has choices for smartass. What is that????
And many others would someone please let me know what they are and how to properly use them please.
One more thing.... Do they upload ROMS on here for the mobile application?

-Are you wondering what "sideloader update is"? are are you asking what update did I get?
-Overclocking just raises your CPU to speeds that your phone wasnt originally intended to do. It will make your phone a bit snappier and some things will run faster, but you must be very careful not to raise the CPU level too far, you could damage your phone permanently.
-To overclock you must have a custom "kernel" with the ability to "overclock". If you have flashed a custom rom then chances are you have one. Or you can download one and flash it after the rom, BUT, make sure it is compatible with your rom or could get bootloops and have to restore a backup. ALAWAYS MAKE BACKUPS WITH CLOCKWORK! they will save your life!
-The governer, in my understanding, just tells the CPU what speeds and frequencies to use and when to use them, i always just imagine a highway of cars, the cars would be the information, and the highway the paths to where the information goes, the governer just manages all this information in ways to conserve battery life or just speed things up, Smartass is a Schedular that somebody made that manages it all verry well. and kindof revolutionized linux systems.. or is that BFS?
- Just use smartass as your daily governer. Make a profile for SCREEN OFF in setcpu, use powersave or conservative and put the CPU speeds at 245/345 or somethin low like that. and you should be good.
WHat update? the hsupa update??lol that was like a month ago....

[MODEMS] I897 Captivate Modem Comparisons

This (not very scientific) test was all done on Serenity KJ3 4.2. I ran the test 3 times and in order to get an average. It was done in the same location, with the same server chosen in SpeedTest Mobile app. I did this mainly to pinpoint which captivate modem worked best for me in my area (South East Florida), so keep in mind that you will probably get different results depending on where you are.
I'm just sharing this in case someone finds it useful. I'll try and add new modems as they come out.

Good suggestions.. I'll do a more in depth test when I get a chance. I just got lazy since these modems are RAT Restricted, and doing the little trick to change frequencies takes longer..

Flashed recovery file and now only 3g

Ok first off sorry if this has been asked already I looked around but couldn't find anything.
I wanted to see what progress had been made on the lord's 4.0.3 beta so I downloaded the zip. Made a CWM backup and flashed the beta. Then I was finished looking around I wiped/factory reset and the cache. Then used CWM's recovery to get back to my old and stable rom.
I rebooted many times but cant seem to get back my 4gish connection (I'm on AT&T). I checked the radio and its fine.
Please help an explanation as to y would be great. I'm trying to learn as much about this as I can so I can maybe start a little development in my spake time.
Thank you and dry again it this is a repost.

What speeds are you getting? There may be network issues in your area.
I'm only getting about 0.5 to 1.5 mbps. I had averaged around 3.0 and sometimes even up to 5 sometimes before.
Sent from my HTC Inspire
I have the same problem.
I'm starting to think it might be a problem in the build.prop or framework.apk configuration data of Lord's ICS.
I've noticed that I can re-flash my radio to 26.10.04.03_M and get back to HSDPA for like two hours, then it gets stuck in 3G.
I recovered Android Revolution 6.3.1 and it also was stuck on 3G, this worries me that it might be a radio problem.
Still looking for a solution, if I found one I'll let you know.
Thanks
I just flashed Lords v1.5 and my signal is good so far. My download speeds are extremely good compared to what I had before. Averaging around 4-5 mbps! We will see through out the week how it goes though.

Seeing great speeds on V1.5 also. i'm thinking it may be a service issue. I can get 3-4 mbps averaged, and then depending on location from my main tower only 3 blocks away, will see a drop of nearly 50% in speed. then returning to the area will restore speed to normal.
I cant say for sure, but my opinion is that the kernel in "not" the problem...and the current hack kit radio is running just fine also...
I'll monitor for a few days, and post any negative connection issues. (if any)...g
