How can i record the videos in mp4? / improve the audio quality on the recorded vids? - HTC Inspire 4G

What the hell is htc thinking? the videos are recorded in 3gp!! is there a way to record the videos in mp4?
Also the audio quality of the recorded videos is awful, like the phone is under water, it has been said that htc uses the AMR codec when EVERYBODY else uses aac , is there a way to fix this? a 8 mp camera phone with 720p recording and lastg generatio audio quality, what a bummer! htc should be working on this as we speak!
Check out this video that includes talking and wind noise, the wind noise sounds like a tornado lol

no workaround for this?

I am also bothered by the video camera. It is supposedly HD but most of my videos are choppy and showing up as being in the area of 9, 12, or 14 or so frames per second. Is there any way to adjust some settings that I am missing?

ive heard the choppy framerate is because of the included sd card, and that class 4 cards dont have this problem

I'm pretty sure it can be cooked up in a rom. all that needs to be done is replacing HTC's camera with googles. Also the HTC camera does record in H264, but uses the 3gp file wrapper.
It can be found here:

EDIT: Now that i think about it, it might be a little harder then just doing that due to framework errors. But hey ill take a look for you. *maybe even take the best out of both*

Ours included class 4 cards with the phone. Was this not the norm?

It's the HTC camera app. Using AOSP video recording on CM7 with a Class 2 32GB SD, it doesn't skip a beat. It's container is MP4.

[Q] Possible to port codecs from SGS? HD Video Player with Sub tittle

From what I have gathered the SGS supports a lot more video/audio formats than Nexus S out of the box (correct me if I am wrong). Will it be possible to port these codecs from the SGS over to the NS?
Video Player Nexus S
Helps. Need a video player for Nexus S. I switched from my G2 to this. With the G2, i used ArcMedia and it played pretty much anything without any conversion. Now all i get is FCs on the Nexus S. Sad panda i am right now.

[Q] How to play vidoes/movies on Nexus S?
So i was thinking about watching a movie this afternoon on my brand new Nexus S and started looking for some sort of video player under the appications. Is it true that the phone doesnt come with any kind of Video Player? How do i watch movies? What format to use for the movies? I download all my movies and they're all .avi. All the help, comments and suggestions are highly appreciated.
AVI is just a container. It can hold any kind of codec inside. I heard people reccomend rockplayer is good though. Try that and report back on how it works.
Rockplayer doesn't work. Lots of players crashes on the Nexus S right now. They all need to be updated.

You're right. Nothing works at the moment. Is it true our nexus came with absolutely no video player?

When I try to open a video file from astro, among the choices of program given to me is one called "movies"; this uses the same icon as the "gallery" proram, comes preloaded on the phone, and also fails to open most video formats.
Playing M4P via Meridian and it works great.

Let me look up meridian. I guess I am gonna have to convert from avi to the extension you mentioned.

Gallery is the video player.

So is the issue that the nexus s doesn't come with an xvid codec or that apps with software decoding of the codecs like rockplayer just need to be updated ? Sorry if I'm a little dense about this.
I guess the 3rd party apps need to be updated.

So is there a specific file type that the galley plays? I just created a movie folder with 2 avi files but gallery isn't showing anything other than pictures on the same storage.

M4P is a .h264 container. Most videos on the internet or torrents for phones come in M4P format. Best quality for the size.
Most phones can play M4P right out of the box. YouTube is a big supporter of the container.

quick question regarding the camera, how do you upload videos to picasa.
I went to the gallery and hit menu to get the option to share, but I only see the option there when its photos. I thought you can upload videos also.
I could not find a way to upload on mine. I have just used "Picasa Uploader" from the market. It's free and uploads video and pictures.

BTW did you check the videos you uploaded on picasa from your nexus?
I just uploaded one using the same app you said, and it seems that the quality is not the same than that which was taken on the phone. Its a much lesser one.

yes it's smooth but why would you want to play 1080p videos on a phone?
Can't be smooth at 1080p, only GS2 can, at the moment
Owning a GS2 also I have tried lots of 1080 and 720 and really on such a small screen you really can't tell much difference in quality.
you can't notice difference between 480p to 720p and 1080p on the phone
Of course the screen on our phone is 480p (800x480) so any higher is a bit useless

Did you try it yourself? Cause I did, Big Buck Bunny 1080p and Avatar 1080p trailer both run smooth as silk. There are video's on Youtube showing the O3D playing high profile 4.1 720p mkv and 1080p mkv which is pretty impressive in my opinion. Haven't tried playing 1080p mkv myself yet but will today.
The GS2 is an incredible phone but not the only one that can do incredible things anymore.
yes...we are all referring 1080p IN FLASH CONTENT,SO DURING THE NAVIGATION WITH THE BROWSER...Not with a dedicated player...

Largo79 asked "@ik911 Are you able to play Youtube 1080p vidz smoothly?" to which ik911 replied he could and then you said only GS2 should be able to. Right, you clearly have no idea what I was replying to so I'm not gonna bother having this discussion with you.
I have no trouble playing embedded video, playing more than two at a time like in that review does make the players choppy which could be a Froyo vs. Gingerbread issue or just a raw power issue but who would play multiple embedded video's anyway on such a small screen (or any screen for that matter)?
Someone asked whats the point of playing 1080p on a small screen? Well when u have ur phone connected to an HDTV then it comes in handy being able to play 1080p or 720p videos

good point to mention

not getting 30 fps on my video camera 1080p or 720p

when i use windows media player im getting max 22fps on all modes i just got my phone today! should i exchange it?
It might have something to do with the memory card. It'll probably work better if you have a class 10 card that capable of real time hd recording.
I'm pretty sure that's a wmp thing. Have you tried any other media players?

Yep. Try this: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
It is the only app which don't lag while playing 1080p MKV file. I have tried VLC etc. And yes, it will record 30fps.

MPC is great, you can check real time FPS by pressing CTRL + J shortcut when viewing video.
I'm curious to see actual fps, esspecialy on fast moving scenes or objects so please post results with info about SD card class...

[Q] Hd 1080p movies dont play smoothly

I want a video player or a tweak that can make my optimus 3d play 1080p without small stutters.
Te build-in cannot do this, although its close.
I use hdmi to view the video on tv and the stutters are really noticeable.
I have a genuine class 10 microsd card, so i dont think its the card.

I dont know exactly but this phone cant handle 1080p 3D natively, i mean cant decode video 3D at 1080P, just simulate that 3D...
And wait for Gingerbread or overclock kernel, maybe you get better performance.

30fps vs 60fps 1080p video

So guys,
On 60fps/1080p the video is noticeably much more blurry than on 30fps/1080p video.
I've noticed this since getting the Pixel, no matter what os: ship to latest including DU.
Has anyone else noticed this? I can't find anything here.
Are you recording 60p video on sd card or on internal storage?

Pixel does not have an SD card slot.
The only thing I can think of is it's using a higher ISO which will introduce more noise. The higher the frame rate, the less light reaches the sensor for each frame so the ISO needs to be higher.
