samfirmware has a leak for 2.3.2 for "galaxy s" on its site? Is the Rom flashable through Odin? The one on the site seems to be the sgs4g
If it is, its only for Europe, not US.
http://phandroid.com/2011/03/14/eur...-update-for-samsung-galaxy-s-by-end-of-march/
Interesting info though, with it coming out in Europe USTMO shouldn't have to wait more that 2 years to get the update!
If T-Mobile USA actually releases Gingerbread for this phone, I might crap my pants a little. Not out of excitement, but out of pure shock and bewilderment.
I hope Samsung adopts the stock gingerbread color theme. I hate this blue on black crap, it hurts my eyes.

So I'm wondering... with the recent news of Gingerbread being ported to the Galaxy S from the Nexus S, will the Mesmerize ever be getting it? It seems that the CDMA phones are like the black sheep compared to GSM, and out of the CDMA SGS phones, the Mesmerize is the black sheep in the shadow if the Fascinate.
So do we have any hope of ever seeing Gingerbread on it?
I sure hope so. Just skip froyo and go straight to gingerbread.
Atleast you guys have a section on the forum... The Samsung Galaxy S Showcase has nearly no support in contrast.. Though i'm seeing alot of Mesmerize sys file matches..
So why would anyone spend time working on Froyo for the Mez (or others) when 2.3 is out there?

There are lots of reasons why a company wouldn't throw away time, money, and resources spent on a project that they had already completed and shipped to a provider. First off, their end is done except fixing bugs. If Samsung, or any other company for that matter, stopped working on 1.6 because 2.1 was just around the corner, then that phone would be obsolete before it got it's first update. We've only been waiting a couple of months for froyo. Why would you want to wait another 6 months to a year for gingerbread to be our first update? Let's get froyo in our phones, and then we can all hope like hell that gingerbread hits for us before we've gotten rid of the Mes for something new.
So if anyone hasn't heard yet, those lucky europe guys got the official gingerbread for their I9000. From I read its super quick and is still on rfs.. so hopefully some of the devs can grab that scource soon and port that bad boy over here!

Unless I'm mistaken, this doesn't affect us too much because we don't have the source code. Maybe we'll see it on samfirware.com soon.
whats gongerbread?
engadget states...
Samsung said its Android 2.3 update for the Galaxy S would come in mid-April and, by golly, it meant it literally. Sometime during the night between the 15th and 16th days of this month, the Korean manufacturer's Kies servers started serving up a fresh portion of Gingerbread to Galaxy S owners in parts of Europe, and now reports are coming in of users successfully updating their Hummingbird-equipped handsets. It's a limited rollout, benefiting the Nordic countries, Holland and Germany first, but we doubt Samsung will hold out on the rest of Europe for much longer. If you want to try your luck, boot up your Kies updating utility and pray to your nearest tech deity.

i wonder if this is gonna be tw 4.0? ill be more likely to use cm7 still but i would like to try it
From what I've seen, this is still TW 3.0. I've glanced over at the i9000 forums, and they're not saying anything about 4.0.
It will be tw3. Also we'd like to port it over to the captivate via reorientation. Make a request to http://opensource.samsung.com/ for sourcecode release.
You can also request via twitter so it pressures the PR department.
chill out, guys, this is just dongerbread. gingerbread won't be out for a while
Lol @ Gongerbread

This has been adressed in other threads. Thread closed.
Any info when/if the infuse will get gingerbread and/or touchwiz 4.0? Really looking forward to some 2.3.
My guess is a year from next month..but if enough people pony up some cheese we will be set...look at the thread down the page..i hope this happens fast..i get the feeling the infuse will be the redhead step child when the sgs2 hits att.
Its a phone with good specs, i don't think that Samsung will disregard a one of their 4G phones.
4.5 inch beast
1.2GHz processor
4G
to good to be left in the dark. they are going to try to squeeze the mos sales out of this phone by keeping it up to date. This phone is basically Samsung Galaxy S device with out the label.
now with that being said, can someone clue me in with the specs on the SGS2

It will definitely get Gingerbread within the next 3-6 months, but not TouchWiz 4.
Why don't you think it will get Touch Wiz 4.0?

because the galaxy s didn't get it either. it was only ported by rom builders. now if you want tw4 there is a flashable .zip in the vibrant section that works on 2.2.1 roms. gingerbread, well maybe by christmas if it doesnt skip to icecream sandwich.
Does any one know of any Honey Comb roms in the making for the Captivate?
Pretty sure Homeycomb is a tablet only OS. Ice Cream Sandwich will be the next OS for phones, but the likelihood of the Captivate seeing that is slim to none. Closer to none.

^^ What he says.
This should maybe be in the Q&A... hence the Question.
Untill this ROM is fully up and running, it's pretty much impossbile. Most of the ROMs made for our phone so far have been heavily dependant on Samsung. Tho some like CM7 have been largely free of Samsung, they still ended up using Nexus S firmware in a few areas. So still dependent on Samsung.
The ROMs are still using Samsung code. So we are stuck with whatever Samsung decides on. Once that ASOP ROM is up we will have fully functional and fully available code for all parts of the phone. Making it then possible to change any or all parts exactly as needed for how the OS runs. a lot of the ROMs would have been gingerbread' months ago if we could swing parts of the firmware.
Appreciate the info guys thanks, especially DaNaRkI... @ Coreym noted for the Q n A section.
honeycomb is only on tablets. i dont think any phone has honeycomb.
Ok so i have the Galaxy
S2 skyrocket for att and i realize other people have this phone (outside att) and they say the ics update is already available and in att.com its available for the Samsung Galaxy S2 (first one launched), when i connect my phone to Samsung Kies on my PC it says that the phone does not support updating via kies.. i was wondering when the update would be available for the phone and how in att cause damn its the second best phone of samsung in ATT ><
We don't know exactly when the official date it, it was speculated around the end of this month and some say maybe a different month.
We did get a recent leak from Design Gears on a later build of ICS which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719432 Thats the closest ICS stock you will get to with it being ATT (has ATT bloat :good: ).
Other options if you want to have ICS on the phone is getting a custom ROM based on ICS and there is plenty on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1383 (SKY ICS is a favorite one)
There is also other ones that have no bloat but are still in testing such as CM9 (what I currently use) and AOKP which recently got an official for Skyrocket.
http://get.cm/?device=skyrocket (CM9)
http://aokp.co/index.php/news (AOKP) (Unicorns anyone? :silly: )
But to answer your question. Samsung Galaxy SII has official ICS release while Skyrocket is still on the waiting list.
lock this dumb thread.
