PS3 causes my Inspire 4G to freeze?! - HTC Inspire 4G

So I was about to watch a movie and thought about connecting my phone to the console to see if it would recognize it like my usb stick (besides, I needed to charge it). Well, apparently each time I hook it up, the orange LED lights up, but the phone just freezes! I thought it was my phone, but it still connects to my computer on Windows xp or Ubuntu. Anyone else having this strange issue?

Can't you stream using DLNA to the ps3? I don't know about accessing the phone via usb to the ps3 so can't answer your question directly.

my buddy said the same thing
he's afraid to plug it to the ps3 again

I can connect my Inspire to my samsung Bluray C6500 player either through DLNA or through the USB and can access media files on my phones without any issues.

I don't know what DLNA is... I was trying to see if my PS3 would recognize it; the movie I was planning to watch was already on my PS3's arrive.

Mine does the same thing..the second time I tryed it caused my phone to reboot over and over again from the HTC screen until I unplugged it

same problem
I had the same problem. I even exchanged the phone thinking it was isolated but of course it is not. The only thing I find strange is when I bought the first phone I hooked it up via usb to my ps3 and it worked fine about two or three times and I copied some movies and music to the SD (which I have since deleted while attempting to make it work) I did soft and hard resets nothing will work I get an Orange light on the phone, a freeze, a power down and a continuous reboot WTF. Even more weird people in my family have both the evo and evo shift and both of them work fine every time on multiple ps3's I have also tried on multiple ps3 to no avail. I'm seriously pissed at HTC if the usb is not compatible then why did work the first few times I tried it and why will it work fine for evo and evo shift both through sprint?????
Riddle me that HTC??? **** heads

Try turning on media servers/media sharing (can't remember exactly what the option is, not at home) on the ps3. DLNA is a protocol used by media sharing programs.

I'm afraid I have the same problem, but coming from a DHD user. It started happening after I flashed mike's 3.2 rom, but can't report it because of the post limit

I have the same problem, but mine won't boot at all now. I connected it to my directv dvr after my ps3 to just charge it and not it's just stuck on the htc screen.

yeah im not gna try that lol. i tried using dlna a couple days ago but it just didnt show up. maybe i was doing it wrong, i went into teh connected media app and tried to play a video on the ps3. even when the phone is on the network, i dont see it on the ps3

I run cm7 and imediashare from the market works great for dlna with my ps3.

[Q] PS3 Wireless Tether issue (Wierd...already looked at other threads)

Hey, yes, I know there are already several threads about this but I am a bit confused. My Set up: CDMA Hero CM 6.1 stable. Me being a newb for the most part to all of this...I just found out the other day...after have a rooted phone for about 6 months...that my hero can do wireless tether. So I installed the app and bam...works like a charm, immediately after installing and running for the first time, my ps3 DID detect and connect to my phone wirelessly. I even played a round of free-for-all on Black Ops to test it out and it worked great. Now today I had some down time so I figured I'd play some COD...but now my ps3 is NOT detecting or connecting with my phone. WTF!? I should also mention that after installing wireless tether on my wife's rooted EVO(froyo), I was also able to connect through her EVO on the PS3. Haven't tried using the Evo again as it's currently not in front of me. Just curious why it worked then and not now, or why it even worked at all if the PS3 supposedly doesn't pick up ad-hoc?(From what I've gathered, Wireless Tether uses AdHoc) I do have full EasyTether, which I was using before I discovered WT, so I'm not SOL, but I was hoping to finally be able to eliminate the cords and wires and what not. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
*EDIT*
Wife just got back home, grabbed her evo, and what do you know...ps3 connects with no issues...so now I have to figure out what happened or what I did to my phone to "F" it up. I am running DroidWall...the firewall is disabled, wireless tether is checked on whitelist, but this was the case when my phone was connected to the ps3 before, but I'm thinking that perhaps this or some other app is interfering. Anything I should make sure is allowed or denied data access? I'm at a loss.
^Bump^ Please...any ideas

[Q] Trouble transfering files to the Xoom WiFi

I'm trying to transfer some mkv's over to the Xoom into the Movies folder. I'd like to try to play them in RockPlayer. However when I try to transfer the files, the prompt pops up saying the Xoom might not be able to play this type of file and do I want to continue. I hit continue and the transfer pops up but it never appears to transfer. Anyone have an issues like this?
Edit: I just tried transfering simple photo's over to the Xoom, I can't even transfer those. After waiting for the file to transfer it eventually pops up saying the device is either disconnected or unreadable.
There is a difference with WiFi vs.3G xoom. I had the Verizon version and returned it. purchased the wifi version today and noticed immediately that my app NBA game time doesn't work but it did on the Verizon version. Something is up but I can't say what was changed. GPS works but the app just closes when it is launched. So, stuck with watching the laker game on EVO.

yes, I made sure to reinstall them directly from motorolas website.
Well I think the problem was that I just used my HTC Micro USB cable since it was already plugged into the computer to transfer files to the Xoom. I started to think about it and since the HTC cable could be used to charge my EVO, perhaps it was the problem. I switched cables and it is now working without a hitch.
There is absolutely something odd and unique about the USB cable that comes with the 3G version. I can NOT use the one that came with my Nexus. Grrr.

Ugh. this is no better than having a proprietary cable...
I used my micro usb cable for my samsung captivate and it worked fine transferring files with the xoom.
I bought a 6ft Micro USB off of Monoprice and it works with my EVO and WiFi Xoom just fine.
I can mount the xoom wifi on my pc at work but can't mount it on my macbook pro. I have tried three different cables but no go. Is there something different for the mac other than plugging in?
You may have to fiddle with your settings in your system control panel... would be my guess for getting it working on a MacBook.
I used the micro usb from my thunderbolt and it works fine on my mac to xoom.. for mac, make sure you have the android file transfer software installed coz it wont recognize the xoom as an external drive.

hi,
I can't download "android file transfer" from android.com in my country (weird google policy!). anyone knows an alternative or mirror link for download? I tried using VPN but somehow it detects I'm connecting from the same region!
thanks
I'm not really sure what that warning relates to. I can say that mkv playback on the zoom is pretty bad even using the handbrake profile that was floating around that creates flawless HD mp4s. With the same source I got audio outs within a few seconds on the mkvs and no problems with the mp4s. Avi files that had warnings played just fine.

Does not sound good. Several people have fried their phone with bad cables. Your phone still works, so you are lucky there.
I have had a problem with CM7 but not 2.3.3. Again, it does not recognize the connection at all does not sound good. Reboot the phone and try again.
You could go to a TMo store and try connecting with one of their cables - theirs would not be bad junk. This way you would know what the problem is.

Unable to mount USB to play MP3's in car radio

this is probably a dumb question, but i need to ask.
i'm not able to play MP3's via USB on my car radio. the phone says USB is mounted, but the radio won't recognize it. i am able to do this same method without any issues with my MyTouch 4G and my car radio will play the MP3's from the phone.
i'm guessing my problem is because both the internal and SD cards are trying to mount and my radio doesn't know what to do...? i know with the MyTouch 4G, it only mounted the SD card since there was no internal drive to even mount.
i'm tried this on MIUI 1.8.12, Trigger, Weapon G2x, and EaglesBlood 2.3.5, but have not had any success.
is there any way around this?
That's weird, I'm having the opposite problem, the car knows that there's something on the USB but the phone just ignores it, never shows the notification for me to mount the USB as storage.
My iPhone worked perfectly.
The problem is drivers.. sorry guys but even with cm7 installed in order to mount the SD card and internal storage to the PC u have to have the LG drivers installed.. HTC doesn't require proprietary drivers for theirs.. it sucks cause I used to do the same thing.. now I use aux input from the headphone Jack.. doesn't sound nearly as good as letting my head unit read the mp3s..

So what you're saying is that I would have to install LG drivers to my car stereo, right? If that would be even possible.
That would be the only solution I know of.. but I don't think its possible..

That's ridiculous. So basically I paid more in my brand new car in order to have wheel-mounted controls and MP3 folder navigation for nothing. Ugh!!!
I just want to update this post because I think I found a solution, and would like to help if anybody out there is experiencing the same problem as I am.
I was initially using 2.3.5, and due to the lack of A2DP I downgraded to 2.3.3 yesterday. It seems that in 2.3.5 the checkbox "use as mass storage only" was taken off from the "Storage" section under "Settings". As soon as it was available on my phone and I checked that, the phone recognized the connection with the car and asked me to mount the USB drive, and voilĂ , my car started playing my MP3s.
I always thought it was weird that everybody talked about this menu option but my phone didn't have it, and nobody mentioned that it was taken away.
Hmm guess I'll have to try that also..

Not for nothing...just buy yourself a cheap USB thumb drive (8, 16GB, whatever) and fill that baby up! Attach to car stereo, and you're done.
Way easier than getting your phone out and hooking it up every time you get in the car anyway...

Scratch that. It worked once, never again. The USB notification shows up but the car says "error".
I'm done with this crap.
I came across this thread while trying figure out the same thing - connecting g2x on my car's usb in. I am on ICS (CM9), but everytime I try to connect in UMS mode, my phone stops detecting usb altogether. If I choose MTP, stereo detects usb, but doesn't play anything.
Is this a deadend or do you guys have a way around it which is being discussed elsewhere?

USB Storage can't be turned on

So I got an incident with my phone, if you wanna now about it, its at my sig, but the thing is that I dunno why or how, sometimes my computer does recognizes my phone and display the Turn on USB storage option at the notification bar, but each time I try to turn it on it just wont work. Attached is a logcat whenI try to enable it, maybe someone could tell me why it wont work.
What rom are you running for those off that are on the xda application?

Normally I got two nandroids a GB based one and an ICS based one, right now Im using both Eagle's Blood 2.3.7 v2.8 and ICS 4.0.3 Build 1. But I had this problem since... always. I'm a flashaholic so i have tested actually every rom from stock 2.2.2 to beta 4.0.3... I even have a nandroid of my original ROM (the one that came with it when y bought it and rooted it) and not even there works. The only clue i have right now is that only if I disable USB debugging it will randomly connect.
This may sound dumb but have you tried a different usb cable? I had the same problem and tried my girls and my phone was able to connect each and every time. another thing I noticed with my phone is that it sometimes won't connect using windows 7...xp no problem but 7 it plays hard to get.

Holy Mother of God! I did it! In one of those "random" times my comptuter recognized my phone I just pulled out the batt unplug/plug again the cable, keeping both vol buttons pressed and it reconginzed the APX decive! Then all I had to do was NVFlash again, restore the stock 2.2.2 Nandroid i had somewhere and play a bit with the USB mount/debbug options, flashed both storages (using gparted for the microSD) and it works! Now have to restore everything to my SD and reflash latest cm7...
Nice!

Did you ever figure this out? Sounds like your having the same problem that i am.
I've tried at least 6 different cables, home PC, work PC, laptop and a co-worker's PC that didn't have anything vmware installed (had a hunch that vmware usb drivers were the cause). Oh, all the computers were win7x64.
I've only rooted my phone and upgraded to 2.3.3 so nothing crazy going on there and it's worked for months since i did both of those.
I have a feeling that this may have been a recent windows update, but no clue when or which one because i haven't really cared that it didn't work. If i had to guess i'd say mine stopped working about 3 months ago... again, hard to remember.

Make sure usb debugging is turned off.
Plug in the phone, enable usb storage.
Right click on the phone drives in the explorer and click on eject.
Turn off usb storage.
Unplug and plug in again.
Enable usb storage.
Drives should work now.
This did it for me. Since then if I remember to eject before unplug I haven't seen any issues.

Curious though, when yours was having problems, did windows detect anything? For instance, when I plugged mine into my co-workers pc there are zero pop ups about new hardware detected.

I had the same problem. Dirt in the mini-USB port can cause that problem.
Take a can of compressed air and blow it into the mini-USB port (blowing with your mouth isn't enough). Also, take a close look at the port with a magnifying glass and look for any dirt or discoloration in there.
Do the same with your cable.

Hi, this problem occur to me after I've installed RemICS 1.3.2 ROM (CM9 based), I did follow the installation steps from beginning, when the problem occur, I did re-flash the same ROM several times, but this problem still unsolved.
I did try all recommendations (blow out dirt, disable usb debugging etc) but still not success.
This ROM should able to detect USB when phone connected with PC, but somehow I don't know why. Any experts recommendation?

Hey, just thought I'd register an account because I stumbled upon this thread because I had the same issue verbatim and I managed to get it working.
I ended up using the USB 3.0 ports on my desktop and suddenly it picks up my g2x without fail everytime. With that said, I'm lead to believe that perhaps its an issue of power. Maybe the USB 2.0 ports you're using simply aren't providing enough power. Not sure what its worth or if my issue was something unrelated but maybe that bit of information is something to work with. =)
Found another solution that fixed the problem for me.
If you are using Windows XP, log on as an Administrator and open Device Manager
Select View > Show Hidden Devices
Scroll down to Storage Volumes, and expand
Right-click on each entry and select Update Driver.
This fixed the problem for me!
