[Q] Easier way to toggle b/w Ring, Vibrate, and Silent?

i'm coming from a nexus one and g2, so i'm used to having these three mode easily accessible.
at home, i leave it on the "ring mode" (no vibrate). at work, i put it in "silent mode" (no sound, no vibrate) and leave it on my desk. whenever i get up or whenever i leave, i toggle it to "vibrate mode" (no sound).
for the nexus s, it seems like silent and vibrate modes were basically merged. i would have to go to Settings > Sound > Vibrate, every time i want to switch from "silent mode" and "vibrate mode". i used to just press the volume rocker down to do that.
any suggestions?
the lock screen is the fastest
or just use volume up and down
volume up down can help me toggle between ring / vibrate OR ring / silent, depending on my vibrate settings.
with my nexus one and g2, i was able to toggle between ring > silent > vibrate, in that order.
Beautiful widgets has “vibrate” and “silent” toggle.
on cyanogen, the enhanced power widget, you have one click which toggles from ring, vibrate, silent. so one tap to switch between each of those. and it sits on your homescreen.
thanks for the suggestions. downloaded the silent toggle widget and it does what i need.
This needs 2 taps, but you get the wanted mode immediately:
Simply open the app and select a mode; the selected mode takes effect immediately.

[Q] How to stop a notification sound

I have enabled the feature Settings > Motion & Gestures > Mute.
"to mute incoming calls and alarms, place hand on screen or turn the phone over".
This doesn't seem to work for SMS notification sounds.
I use a fairly long, loud notification since I work in a loud machine shop, but when I'm in a quiet area sometimes I need to cut off the notification sound mid-stream.
I've tried the gestures to cover screen with hand touching, flipped the phone over, pressed home button, pressed volume down button.
Nothing stops the notification sound and it plays in it's entirety.
Is there a way to stop the notification sound that is currently playing for an incoming SMS or Gmail message?

Is there a way to turn vibrate off completely?

I just got my Idol 3 today and I figured out how to turn off most vibrate options. However, it won't turn off for notifications. I have turned the volume down and tried to put it on silent, but the vibrate stays on. I haven't seen anything in the settings that would help, either. Is vibrate always on? Is there even a way to turn it off? I just don't want my phone to vibrate and disturb me when I'm sleeping or if I'm in a situation where no phones are allowed like a meeting or an exam.
Hangouts has vibrate on/off toggles in three places under its own settings. Your Google account has two toggles for Google Voice and Hangouts messages. Also, sms has a toggle.
silence vibrate
to put it in silent mode, press volume down until it shows vibrate, then choose what to vibrate - All, Priority, or None. Tap None, then chose for how long, or Indefinitely
I just figured this out while trying to silence those annoying ads that vibrate the phone
WOW... THANK YOU!! You have no idea how much this helped my life!
I would also like to know if you can turn off vibration but not have it on silence

Lock the phone (prevent unwanted tap) durirng call??

Probably my proximity sensor got broken after phone back from warranty, btw during call the screen stays on and i continue tap with ears or cheeks the display and press accidentaly buttons (mine is a g3, so i tap the mute button on the flash toggle everytime).
Any app can block the screen only during call preventing my unwanted taps?
thanks
Call blocking is a feature which is provided by phone itself. You can try doing it by
Open the App drawer, and go to Settings. In the Settings screen, scroll down to the Blocking mode option, and tap the slider to turn on this mode. Tap on the text to access the options inside this mode. Inside Blockingmode, you will find options to disable incoming calls, notifications, alarms and timers.

Un-desirable ring tone

Hi,
When you switch on the phone , you have a ringtone I would like to disable, is this possible ?
I didn't manage to find anything in the parameters.
Thanks
There isn't an option like Motorola or other OEM, but if you turn off your phone in "silent mode", when you turn it on again there will be no sound.

OK , I just tried..... and it works.
I wish I had a sound symbol to press on and off like wifi, torch light etc.... may be with an update later on who knows.
Anyway thanks a lot for the tip, I appreciate very much.
When you press a button of the volume rocker appears on the screen the slider to adjust the volume, right? If you press on the ring bell next to the slider the device goes in "silent mode" without changing the volume and in place of the ring bell appears the vibration symbol. If you press on the vibration symbol, the ring bell appears again and the volume returns to your favorite setting. It is a quick setting that allows you to switch between ringtone and silent mode without changing the volume, but placed in the quick volume menu, rather than in the general quick settings.
As an alternative you have the DND (Do Not Disturb) mode that has its toggle in the quick settings.
Yes this noise annoys me too but I rarely turn my phone off unless there is a reboot due to updates.
