[Q] How to stop a notification sound - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

I have enabled the feature Settings > Motion & Gestures > Mute.
"to mute incoming calls and alarms, place hand on screen or turn the phone over".
This doesn't seem to work for SMS notification sounds.
I use a fairly long, loud notification since I work in a loud machine shop, but when I'm in a quiet area sometimes I need to cut off the notification sound mid-stream.
I've tried the gestures to cover screen with hand touching, flipped the phone over, pressed home button, pressed volume down button.
Nothing stops the notification sound and it plays in it's entirety.
Is there a way to stop the notification sound that is currently playing for an incoming SMS or Gmail message?

Silence Ringer/Vibrate with volume

I just received my 750v today. The problem I'm having is that when a call comes in, I'm used to pressing volume up or down key to have the ringer and/or vibrate silenced. This works fine on my treo 650. When I do this on my 750v, it just lowers or raises the volume but that's it. My ROM is 1.12.0a.00. Any ideas on this??
I don't own one yet but I know there's a switch on top to totally silence the unit, but vibrate will continue to work as long as it is activated. This has been a trademark of Treos.
Every treo I've had, I've been able to silence both the ringer and the vibration simply by pushing either the volume or up down key. Yes the switch silences the entire unit but I like silencing individual calls so the ringer isn't going off more than what is needed to let me know someone is calling.
For Treo 750v, it is very straight forward but it took me a week to realize it. To silence the ringer when calls come in, just press any key on the QWERTY keypad.
On my treo 650, I could silence the ringer by simply pressing the volume key. This was very convenient as I didn't have to take the phone out of the case which saved time as well as having the ringer go off minimally. If I have to take the phone out of my pocket or a case, the ringer basically goes off long enough for EVERYONE in the room to notice. Anyone know of any fixes for this? My treo 650's original firmware did the same thing, then I updated the firmware and voila, it worked the way I wanted it to.
Silence a Treo 750V
In order to be able to silence and stop vibrations of the 750V you will need to do the following
from the main screen select preferences then phone settings, this as long as you have a sim card in the phone will take you to settings screen you then need to select the ring tones link for incoming calls, you then need to work your way through the list of possible events suck as phone:known caller, phone:missed call, phone:unknown caller and then delsect the vibrate when ringer is off option, this will stop the phone vibrating when ringer off and funny enough ...
To silence a call on the 750 (Cingular), all you do is press the spacebar.

[Q] Android Stock Lockscreen Volume Slider

I have a question about the slide to switch between sound on/sound off or vibrate.
I found out when I set vibrate in preferences to "never" or "only when sound is on", the slide lets you switch between sound on and sound off.
When I set vibrate to "only when sound is off", the slide lets you switch between sound on and vibrate.
But what I would love, is a slide which let you switch between all three, sound on, sound off and vibrate.
Is it possible?

[Q] total mute

I've been looking all over xda but can't seem to find the next thing:
Is there allready an app or a homebrew app available that let's WP users mute their phone very easily? As well as sound ass vibration.
It is pretty annoying I always have to change it in the settings.
Regards!
There is a volume-control app (in the dev&hacking sub-forum, I believe) but I admit to finding the request odd; why not just hold down the Volume Down button? If you have vibration enabled and want to turn that off too, you'll also need to turn on the screen for a sec (no need to unlock it, though).
Normally my phone is on vibrate + ring
When I'm in a normal meeting it is on Vibrate only
When I'm asleep/ important meeting/... its muted completely. No vibrating, no ringing.
It is pretty easy to switch between the first two. But to get it completely muted I always have to go via the ringtone settings.
If I hold the volume down to zero it will always keep on vibrating. I don't seem to get your point?
Ah, my bad. It used to toggle between Vibrate and Silent when you tapped the button on the screen. Now it just toggles the ringer; you can't disable the vigrate from there anymore. Dumb...

Is there a way to turn vibrate off completely?

I just got my Idol 3 today and I figured out how to turn off most vibrate options. However, it won't turn off for notifications. I have turned the volume down and tried to put it on silent, but the vibrate stays on. I haven't seen anything in the settings that would help, either. Is vibrate always on? Is there even a way to turn it off? I just don't want my phone to vibrate and disturb me when I'm sleeping or if I'm in a situation where no phones are allowed like a meeting or an exam.
Hangouts has vibrate on/off toggles in three places under its own settings. Your Google account has two toggles for Google Voice and Hangouts messages. Also, sms has a toggle.
silence vibrate
to put it in silent mode, press volume down until it shows vibrate, then choose what to vibrate - All, Priority, or None. Tap None, then chose for how long, or Indefinitely
I just figured this out while trying to silence those annoying ads that vibrate the phone
WOW... THANK YOU!! You have no idea how much this helped my life!
I would also like to know if you can turn off vibration but not have it on silence

[SOLVED] (Incoming call) Phone notification problem

Hello everyone.
When someone calls me, my screen doesn't turn on. I hear the ringing, and led flashes, but I have to press the power button to turn screen on and see who calls, and swipe to answer.
In notification settings, it says that pphone notifications are off. When i tap to open settings, there are no options, nor sliders to change..
Found the solution!
Whilst you are on a call, go to your home screen but do not end the call. Pull down the notifications from the top of the screen.
There should be the notification bar for the ongoing call. Hold down on this bar but do not return to the call. An options box should appear. Check the option that says "do not silence". You can now end the call and the problem should be solved.
(wow) thanks it worked. I had the issue for months.
