Maybe the phone is carrier locked, thats why you get no network?
You don't need a sim card to use wifi, there probably something wrong with your wifi/network setup (i.e. static ip/automatic).
how do you get the carrier unlocked i know the phone itself is unlocked
The information you provide is to little.
Does it ask you for the carrier pin code?
Is flight mode turned on?
no it doesnt ask for a pin it just has an X over the signal bars
Does the sim work with other phones?
Did you change something or is the phone all stock?
I'm out of ideas for now.
yes my wife has an iphone and it works in hers maybe im not running the correct version of android on my phone im not sure what version i need to use i just downloaded on and it loaded up and no i never tried to turn airplane mode off ill try that and see if it works thanks man

Hey guys,
First post here, so not 100% sure if its in the right spot. Gotta bit of a weird problem with my new S710. Got it on Monday with everything working fine. Then one night I was surfing the net testing out the EDGE and WiFi and the phone froze. I rebooted but when it came back on it couldnt pick up my network
I've gone over settings over and over again, called my SP, the place I bought as well as HTC and they cant give me a proper answer that I can pin point the issue and fix it. Also tried flashing ROM's to WM 6.1, back to 6.0 standard but nothing happening. Now the weird thing is, my SIM works in other phones, and other SIM's work in my phone. Its just my SIM that isnt working
The furthest I can get to is trying to turn the phone functionality on, which just stays on off.....
Any suggestions? Help is much appreciated. Thanks guys
I have also faced similar problems from my previous prepaid Connection in AirTel. I roam a lot in a particular place, my AirTel prepaid will display no signal while the post paid one will show signal, not full though. And yes I have seen the same thing after swapping the SIMs. At another place, my prepaid SIM will show SIM ERROR . So try changing your SIM from your service provider.
Well, so are I can tell you that the Vox is a little bit picky about SIM-Cards. Fireburned's SIM doesn't work with my Rose ROM for instance! Maybe you just got a "Monday"-SIM/V ox

Its a damn weird problem....
For interests sake what kinda SIM are you using? 32k or 64? Is it 3G enabled?
I know the S710 doesnt support 3G, but maybe thats whats causing the problem. Im gonna try go to my SP tomorrow or Monday to get my SIM swapped out. Maybe I should try another ROM, see if that makes a difference....
Thanks for the reply

Seems so. I've Googled myself to death and found a few similar problems to what Im having. Its just really strange it worked, and then did
The other day it happened for the first time, 2nd day I had the phone. I freaked, with it being my first smart phone and whatever. LOL
I did some ##022# trick, which apparently re-connects me to my SP, that worked. Hasnt worked this time....
I'll flash another ROM onto my phone, will let you guys know if it changes anything
Its a 32K SIM. In India There is no 3G . And hence most of the SIMs are not 3G ready. Mine was not 3G ready either.
If you want to try another ROM, I would suggest to go for fb's Clean ROM or fh's Lite ROM, you will not find fh's ROM in a thread, but you will find it's hyperlink in his signature .

OK cool stuff. I'll try see if I can get a 32k SIM, just to be safe and I'll ask em to not enable 3G. Dont use it really anyway
Thanks again for the help mate

Call T-Mobile (I assume that's the service you're using now) and they will tell you the APN settings.
Hi thanks,
i have done that but the phone keeps removing the APN, there is now no APN selected an im not sure what has happened as i am now getting mobile data.
Does anyone now how to get rid of the network operator logo on start up aswell?
Cheers
Did you have to unlock the phone to do that?
I called AT&T and they said that they don't have the unlock code since they don't even sell the device, but that it works on sims outside the US. She seemed to imply that it won't work on tmobile but that if I go outside the US, and just put a sim in, it will work without me having to unlock the phone in anyway.
Can anyone verify this?
Thanks

Most customer service representatives are pure idiots .... Nexus S is a Google phone , so it's factory unlocked to any SIM card you use with it(you may or may not get 3G on other networks depending on the other network 3G frequencies , and if the forgein network has 3G on 900/1900MHz it will have 3G on this Nexus S)..
Hope this helps..
Well I went to tmobile and the guy put in a sim into the phone and the phone got no reception nor did it seem to recognize the sim at all.
So it seems that it isn't unlocked.
I tried putting in this code: *#7465625#
Its supposed to tell you if the phone is unlocked or not, but nothing happens, it just says: Connection problem or invalid MMI code.
I don't need it to work on tmobile, but I do need it to work on foreign simcards. And I saw on other forums that for some people it worked on tmobile and others it didn't so there doesn't seem to be any clear answers.

you have another issue here , check your phone
Thanks for the response.
What do you mean by other issue and how should I be checking my phone?
In any case, I put in a simcard that my brother gave me which I believe is from Mozambique on a carrier Vodacom. It asked for the code of the sim when I put the phone is as always, and so I got in putting in 0000.
It then showed no connection to anything whatsoever, also as always.
Keep in mind I did have wifi on.
Then all of a sudden it asked me to update my phone and install something. So I just said yes and it updated and rebooted.
All of a sudden I have bars here and there and it recognizes that tmobile and AT&T are in the area. I also saw I think at the top of the notification bar when I pull down the notifications tab, it said Vodacom. Of course I get no reception whatsoever but that is expected, this sim was a gophone sim in Mozambique.
Does this mean that its unlocked if it is recognizing another sim, even though no confirmation of reception? I plan to try again with tmobile now and perhaps make sure I have wifi connection while doing so and leave it in for longer.
Thanks and please let me know if you have any thoughts.
what ROM you're on now?stock or costum one ? you also might consider a FULL phone wipe.because this might be caused by a difference between at&t apn or other Sim data and the other .check for that
I'm on stock 2.3 that the phone came with. Haven't messed with it at all.
So I assume you saying that if I want to switch to another sim, I should do full phone wipe then? so that the at&t apn doesn't confuse it?
IF it doesn't work with tmobile again, I will try taht, and I will also try to learn what an apn is.
Thanks for the help.
Might work or might not !!! backup all your data and apps first then use the shotgun method lol
But what I am sure of is that Nexus S phones are always unlocked and SIM free..
Hi all,
I just bought a used Skyrocket and unlock the phone using unlock code I bought from other website. But when I put the TMobile Sim card and restart the phone, the phone took about 2 to 3 minutes to acquire the network signal. So I used a friend AT&T Sim Card and restart the phone but the phone still took 2 to 3 minutes. The Android version is 2.3.5 and Kernal Version is 2.6.35.11. Does anyone encountered this problem before? I search around but didn't found any thread mention about this problem. I just don't know if it is because of the phone or because of the unlock code? Thanks all.
nevermind... found a solution. Have to reset the APN so it recognize Tmobile. Now it is able to pickup TMobile right at startup.
Depending on where you are signal wise when useing a unlocked phone it is pretty typical bout taking it's time connecting on a different network other than what it was set up for but over all would say if it pick's up and function's properly it should be fine. I have had a few do the same thing sound's pretty normal. Hope this helped ya.
Hello, I bought a SIM card from straight talk hoping to use it on my merge because I have seen people online that says I can do that as long as i have my SIM card unlocked. But after I got the card activated and put it in my phone it don't work. I try changing to GSM and using their APN but I have no signal, the mobile network just stays unchecked and I cannot check it. After a few minutes my phone suggests switching over to global mode and i do have mobile signal then but still no connection with anything. I called the straight talk woman and she told me it only works with AT&T or T-Mobile phones but it just don't make any sense to me that you have to have one of those previous carious just to get them as a new carrier? Am I missing something here?
Fixed

Thanks to the helpful people over at 2fastroms and their quick response I found out that you have to have the 1.06.00.0910 verizon radio flashed to your system. You have to install the radio in the boot-loader and not the recovery menu, it took me a minute to figure that one out. Just informing anyone that has the same problem as me because I could not find it anywhere else on the web. Anyway credit to jianC for the help.
