I am having problems with applications on the phone not being able to communicate when wireless tethering is turned on. Examples are Google Talk and Touchdown both quit working when I enable the wireless hotspot. I have a wireless Xoom and use the hotspot for it to connect. Other applications on the nexus seem to work like the browser and the market. Google talk comes up with 'Network currently unavailable. Will connect automatically when available.' As soon as I disable the hotspot it connects. Anybody else having problems with wireless tether?
Yes, I've noticed when I'm connected to 4g and turn on Wireless hotspot or USB tethering my 4g icon turns grey and I am no longer connected to 4g. I've repeatedly checked to in different locations around my city, and at different times of the day. Same behavior. Something tells me its not coincidence.
Is anyone else experiencing issues with this phone not always connecting to remembered wireless networks? When I'm at work I use the AT&T network through PSU and previous phones would always connect to them whenever in range. This phone shows that it sees the network signal but doesnt auto connect, I have to turn off and on wifi. Am I the only one?
I've had this problem a few times already.
Will keep an eye on it.
I have had problems only on 5GHz networks. 2.4GHz networks are fine for me.

I'm also seeing that it's actually connected - showing good signal strength but when I try to access the internet on any app it time out.
I've had the same problems. It will see my network but not auto connect. Then when I tell it to connect it acts as if it doesnt know the password. If I turn wifi on and off, it then connects fine on its own.
I have an Android Honeycomb Tablet (Asus Transformer), which blocks ad-hoc WiFi connections. So, the Wireless Tethering for Root Users app won't help me for a WiFi connection. Barnacle also seems to do ad-hoc WiFi connections, so no help there.
But, I used to be able to do Bluetooth tethering to the tablet using the Wireless Tethering for Root Users app just fine from my MotoDroid. For some reason, I can't with my SamChg. After pairing the tablet with my SamChg and starting a Bluetooth wireless tether on the SamChg, the Tethering profile doesn't appear on the tablet (it did for the MotoDroid)
Is there a way to do Bluetooth Tethering with the SamChg?
Thanks,
¿GotJazz?
Wireless Tether for root users isn't really ad-hoc. It sets your phone up as a wireless hub and supports multiple connections. So, I am not sure why the wifi is not working for you. I use it with my Xoom through wifi all the time and it is also running honeycomb.

Hi, Kornsaq - I just tried using WT4RU to connect to my laptop, and my SamChg showed up as a computer-computer ad-hoc network.
Are you doing anything special to get an infrastructure connection?

Hi guys,
installed wifi tether from google code.
it worked, however, noticed a couple things.
1. After turning off wifi tether, I'm still able to detect the adhoc wireless network. (Concerned about battery drain)
2. When having the wifi tether running, it isn't an access point, but an ad hoc network.
Anyone else having these issues? Known issues?
same here
I'm having the same issue basically. My laptop sees the "Androidtether" but it wont connect. It did the same thing with usb tethering too.
Installed Pdanet and it works off and on. I'm in a 4g city...frustrating that I can't get those sweet speeds over to my computer! haha
I am having same issue..anyone have any ideas? I wish it came up as a reg wireless connection instead of the ad hoc network....the stock wifi hotspot comes up correctly

Technically, the SamChg stock WiFi Hotspot is coming up incorrectly as an Infrastructure connection, and the android-wifi-tether app is coming up correctly as an "Ad-Hoc" connection.
It's just not "convenient" for us that the Google android-wifi-tether app only comes up in ad-hoc mode.
From Wikipedia: A wireless ad hoc network is a decentralized type of wireless network. The network is ad hoc because it does not rely on a preexisting infrastructure, such as routers in wired networks or access points in managed (infrastructure) wireless networks.
Personally, I can't think of anything more "decentralized" than a mobile phone.
As far as I know, the latest version found here (3.0-pre14) works, and it has infrastructure mode. Just use the Samsung Fascinate option when setting (Device-Profile) it up and it should work.
wow thanks..that worked beautifully...appreciate it
I am having an issue with almost every ROM for the transformer. It rarely connects to the Wifi tether app on my thunderbolt. I did manage to get it connected once but it never connected again. It just got stuck at the "obtaining IP" stage. Also, I have issues maintaing a connection with my home wifi. Sometimes it will connect for 15 seconds then disconnect. The only thing I can do is restart the modem. None of my other devices have this issue. Whats going on?
My wifi tether app has an access control list, does yours? See if its on or off. Also for the home connection do you have any mac filtering on? Do your wireless security settings match? Any static ip settings? Are you running 5ghz on your home network? The tf only supports 2.4ghz.
Try making home network with no security on and connect.Any proxy software? Do youhave ATT u-verse? I heard u-verse supplies there own router.Just trying to eliminate anypossibilities.
I used krakd and prime without issue.
Not sure if this helps or if u even have CM7 as an option but I have no problems wifi tethering my TF with my Optimus V running IHO-CM7 and I only use Quick Settings for the wifi hotspot.
I would have to assume it is more ur phone then the TF.

I have access control turned off. I believe there might be something wrong with the ROM on my thunderbolt. I have tried CM7 and tethering didn't work either. I have disabled 5ghz and ill do some more testing to see if it works better.
