I removed the officesuite.apk and I can't rid myself of the infernal officesuite icon, when i open it i get a link to get OfficeSuit Pro, aswell as access to the Phone and Memory card filesystem, cliking on a document gives the following error: java.lang.RuntimeException (not surprising since i removed the apk).
Any ideas on how to vanquish it?
I'm running 2.1, got titanium backup pro installed.
Edit: officelauncher.apk has reapeared even though i deleted it!? maybe from opening the icon, i dont know.
bump,
Anyone?
how did you delete it?
adb?
I rooted with Superoneclick, then I used Titanium Backup to uninstall the OfficeSuite.
Ok, i got OSMonitor, the officesuite icon is asocciated with the process "com.mobisystems.office:browser" im guessing its a different apk, any idea which one?
GREAT SUCCESS! Searched root for 'office' with Yaffs Explorer and deleted the offending apk (it was located in /data/app/).

Hello,
I flashed to leedroid 1.3 and i use Titanium backup to remove it like they wrote on the Forum, but it doesn't remove them.
It gets rebooted and then hangs with black screen and android warning picture.
I need to remove the battery to restart the phone.
Any other ideas to remove twitter/facebook/Peep and other social media apps.
THNX for your knowledge input.
you can also manualy remove the apps by deleting them (or renaming their extention e.g. .apk -> apkx) with a root explorer, for example 'root explorer' or 'ES File Explorer' in the /system/app folder.
I can remove it, but it returns after reboot + on "pm uninstall com.twitter.android" I get "Failed"
You need to root your phone first. Visit the forum section dedicated to your phone, read a bit, read a bit more, root it, then wipe that bloatware off.
@Captkiwi just download z4root it works with 99% of phones-use it and buy rootexplorer, open it, go to system/app, click mount r/w and delete bloatware Good luck
Making phone to be S-OFF is crucial. This thread helped me S-OFFing it properly (made bootable USB with unetbootin), and now this procedure works... Previously it didn't while the phone was still S-ON.
Hope this helps people, been struggling with my phone for a month now... Finally it seems I control my hardware
Make sure USB Debugging is on
Install z4root by downloading the apk and allowing non-market apps. Find it on sd card and install with longpress or something.
After you root, install titanium backup free version.
You can use this to backup and then uninstall all the bloat you want.

Ok - looks like there are 2 main options
1) Install Titanium backup and delete bloatware from there (Rooted Phone)
..........This option doesn't appear to work all the time - is it because the bloatware doesn't show up or because its listed with and unusual name like---- SNS 1.0 -- that twitter hides behind?
2) Use "a" file explorer on a rooted phone and go to---- system/app ---and find the apps and delete them ....nope still cant find the bloatware....
.........try another folder ..... /data/app/ ....still nothing
Anyone got any more ideas?
I'm working on an ideos X5
Hey guys just rooted the phone finally today as I wanted to be able to gain better battery life and performance.
I followed this how to:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
Which worked great and installed the following:
-Clockwork Mod Recovery
-PeanutButta Jelly Time w/ Voodo Lag Fix
On my past phones (nexus 1 and nexus S) once you rooted you could delete any app on the phone but I dont seem to be able to do this. I wanted to clean out some of the stock apps that are installed on the Charge from Verizon such as: Bitbop, City ID, ect.
What am I missing here?
Download Root Explorer, make a folder on your sd card named "charge bloat" and go into system/app and remove what you need too.
Be careful with some of the stuff you remove though

Is there anything I must keep on?
Here is the list of what I was planning on removing:
AllShare
Verizon Apps
Bitbop
Blockbuster
City ID
Guided Tours
Lets Golf 2
Rhapsody
Rock Band
Slacker Radio
V Cast Media Manager
VZ Navigator
WeatherBug Clock
Also I just downloaded root explorer and went in to system/app folder and tried to move the apps to a the new folder I created on my SD card and I get the following error:
"apk cannot be moved because the file system is read only"
NM: I had to hit the mount button at the top
In Root Explorer you need to change where it says 'Mount R/W' to 'Mount R/O'
That will give you access to move files freely.
You should also be able to remove them with Titanium Backup I believe.
Thanks guys!
Can anyone confirm if Im ok removing the ones listed? also is there a list anywhere of stuff that can be removed?
I highly recommend you use titanium backup (its free). Backup the app you want to remove, then delete it. If you delete something you shouldn't have you can then simply restore the app.

or just freeze 'em.
Just installed Pro and now going to follow this list:

Thanks for the help guys!
Hi, this is kind of a difficult question for me to explain, but I will try.
I have Titanium Backup installed and it was working fine for a while.
One day the icon went corrupt and the app would not open.
Naturally I went to uninstall and reinstall the apk.
When I uninstalled, the app icon and links disappeared and the app ceased to function, but the app did not uninstall.
When I try to reinstall, it asks to replace the old with the new one.
The install finishes with "Application Not Installed"
I can not access Titanium Backup at all.
I have tried using ADB to uninstall and I have uninstalled from the manage applications. I also tried deleting the .apk from /data/app/.
Titanium backup will no longer show up in my Manage Application menu.
I made a flashable .zip from another phone and installed it that way, TiBu still did not show up in the app list, but all the files are in the phones filesystem.
Hopefully someone can help me fix this without reinstalling the ROM.
The problem phone: HTC Hero CDMA CM7 Nightlies.
Thank you!
I hate to bump my own post, but my thread seems to have gotten lost among newer ones and I do not know where else to ask for help fixing it.
Hi-
I just upgraded to the rooted UECLK7 for p3113 via: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099779&highlight=ueclk7
Now when I go into /system/app/ and try to delete the bloatware, it says it cannot delete. I tried it with ES File explorer.
I would never have problems with deleting this way (either with my galaxy s2 or all previous versions of my p3113).
I know I'm rooted because I restored all my apps with Titanium.
Am I missing something?
a point in the right direction would be appreciated. thank you.
There is a free version of an app called NoBloat - basically does what you are looking for - also requires root access, so give it a try, if it does not work there may be a problem with your "rooting"
Good luck,

Thank you! that worked.
Still curious as to why I can't delete it from ES File Explorer... but anyway, thank you.

actually I take that back.
The app says it's been uninstalled and deleted, but it's still there.
I went back and ran CF autoroot (chainfire for P3113) to confirm root again, but I still cannot delete system apps. this is annoying.
thank you though.
I rooted my 3113 UECLK7 using CF Auto root method explained here -

I came across a list of preloaded bloat that seems safe to uninstall. Here's a copy of it. It's for the 10 inch I believe, but a lot of the apps are the same. We have a couple they don't and vice versa. But this is a great start.

I froze unwanted programs first. I started removing them tonight using Titanium, as I have a pro license for my phone. I converted to user app first and then uninstalled from the stock apps / menu list. I verified they successfully removed by checking disk space with DiskUsage app and checking the apps file location / path with ES Explorer to verify it was in fact uninstalled and deleted.
So my suggestion is to try the way I did with Titanium. If that fails, it sounds like a read write attributes / permissions problem. Also, verify root with Root checker.

I have came across an app or two I wanted to uninstall. It was a system app, but no option to convert from system app to user app in TiBu. Tried the forced remove method, the tab rebooted with an error and didn't uninstall. Going to try an look into this more this weekend. In the meantime, Should you figure out how, please post how you did it.
Checking back in. I installed NoBloat and have not had any problems deleting system apps. Just deleted about 15 and going to find out what others I can uninstall. Also, verified deletion by checking file path in ES. Packages are gone.
OP, how is your progress? Have you been able to delete the problem app? Is it just 1 app, or multiple? Can you list them please?

I too have this problem. just picked up 2 galaxy tablet 7 from bb. had newest 4.1.1 update already. both are rooted with super and used es file (with root permis) to unistall bloat apk. tells me zineo (for example) cannot be deleted. ok. switched to tibu and it tells me file has been success unist. cool. reboot. dammit. zineo apk is still there even after tibu said it was unist. will play around with some more bload removal tools from play store.
update, installed system app remover...it failed to remove zinio...or music hub...
update. ok, what the ****?! I installed nobloatware free and go to sys app. it displays all apps. scroll down to zinio. delete without back up. it says deleting and the apk is gone...or so it seems. es file shows it's still there. go back to nobloatware and try again. select the apk and it's gone from the list, but i flip it and the app list refreshes and zinio is still there. why is root checker telling me i have root and es and tibu also indicates i have root but i can't delete the bloatware?

google apps safe to remove?
hi. does anyone know if google apps (google books, etc.) are safe to remove? I soft bricked my lg motion removing some. just wondering if I could do it on this tablet. thanks.
I used system app remover to get rid of a few things: chaton, game hub, and next issue, just for starters. Game hub seems to have completely removed, but the icons for chaton and next issue are still in my app tray. Any ideas on how to remove the dead-link icons?
Here's a list of apps I removed without issue:
music hub
media hub
game hub
chat on
amazon kindle
next issue
s suggest
samsung apps
peel smart remote
I had tried restoring instagram from titanium backup, but it wouldn't complete because at the time I had the mount namespace issue.
I fixed that, restored everything, and everything worked.
I recently tried to use instagram on my phone, only to realize it wasn't there. I tried restoring it back again from titanium backup, and it kept hanging forever.
Now I try to install it from google play, and it says "can't install app." The error code is -506.
So I try to manually install the apk through package manager, and it says:
"out of space."
Which is not accurate.
What am I missing here? There's no com.instagram.android in /data/apk. I am wondering if the "bundle id" is registered somewhere and I need to remove it, or something?

There was another thread about this, in which a solution helped 3 or 4 people who couldn't download different apps due to 506 error:
"If you use a root explorer, goto data/data, there are dead files in there under google music, or talk, delete them , then try to reinstall from play store, worked perfectly for me and killed the 506 error, these are from past error installs and Android thinks the app is still installed. I personally use root explorer and within all the actual blue file folders under data/data, the corrupt ones showed as white unknown files, if I helped hit thanks.... These are actually like leftover residual file fragments from a prior intall, that for some reason Android 5.0+ doesn't clean out, tombstones"

Man, there was a com.instagram.android 0k file there.
I deleted it and it worked. I don't know how I missed that in the search. I was already digging around that directory.
Thanks!
