[Q] Downgrade Clockwork Recovery - G Tablet General

I installed ROM manager on my G-Tab and it upgraded my clockwork mod. Now, I can't update my ROMs because VegAn-TAB Ginger Edition only works with Clockwork v.08
So, how do I downgrade?
Sorry to make a new thread, but I did a lot of searching and this topic seems like it should have its own thread.

At the bottom of rom manager it says flash alternate recoveries and .08 is in there

Many thanks, but I had to tinker and ended up bricking it.
If any of you would like to follow the drama.

these are the latest drivers. no need to install development kit. the links people are posting are to an old msi..
If you have any sort of linux device at all (with a usb port).. you could try it there, to confirm its a drivers issue. I'm betting that lsusb on a dd-wrt flashed router would even show it.. Just to confirm it works.. of course.

[Q] Clockworkmod recovery

This is partly a question, partly a guide.
I got a nexus S the other day and was trying to decide weather to root/unlock it. The problem I ended up having (had the same issue with my desire) is that I couldn't find a source for the clockworkmod recovery image (most of the root guides point to outdated links, point to downloads with no version info, or point to versions that are pretty old).
I eventually went down the same path with this phone that i did with the desire, download rom manager and get it to download the version it thought was appropriate for my phone. It didnt have root, so downloading was the only thing it can do (btw, if your looking to do the same thing i did, rom manager downloads it to the /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/<some hostname>/cm/recoveries/ directory). It got 3.0.2.4, which i copied off the storage and flashed with fastboot.
However, it makes me wonder where do people actually get clockworkmod recovery from? Is there a single place? alot of the links point to places like mediafire. Lastly, is 3.0.2.4 the version i should be using? (currently on 2.3.4 stock with root/unlock on a i9023).

I had the same problem back when I got my NS. I ended up finding a link somewhere here on xda, i think.
Downloading it with Rom-Manager is a good idea too, unfortunately i didnt know about Rom-Manager by that time.

Updating ROM with CWM just reverts to menu?

Hey,
I'm trying to install the [ROM] Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.2.2 - Moray [9/10/11].
I've got CWM installed (version recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img but also tried latest version from ROM Manager).
Each time i try to install the .zip it get's to opening package and then just exits to the CWM menu?
It's probably a common thing, but couldn't find anything from a search? Anyone got any ideas?
This has been covered many times so take the time to do a search.

I had to thank you Muffycheeks for your excellent answer. I am not sure why you did not at least give an indication about where to find the answer or what the issue is? Lucky this was posted in Q&A and not in the dev thread!
I am new to Xoom (only got it since yesterday) and have managed to get the bootloader unlocked and custom recovery installed. For some reason when I reboot the device the recovery is flash back to 3e (I suppose this has been also debated millions of times but I cannot find it yet...)
I had been able to flash one of the custom roms but it gets stuck in bootscreen. I wiped everything I could think of and followed a couple of advices and still not working.
I am downloading the other rom (as far as I can tell there are only 2 customs with one of them based on the other one) and will see if that works.
Sorry Addicteddddd for highjacking your thread but I have been searching for a while until I found your thread and I thought my issues were over to find the standard helpful XDA answer. Some people might have had their device for years but some other are quite new to this.
K.
EDIT: It seems that one of the recoveries do not advise if a ZIP file is bad and therfore comes back with no message. I suppose this is why this is happening.
I downloaded 3 ZIP files and they are all corrput. Not sure what is happening here but anyway.

I don't know if you used this guide but there is a bit of discussion of some issues regarding cwm recovery versions and some pitfalls while trying to flash.Check it out if you haven't
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
Also, how are you downloading the file? Are you getting the right version? If you are using the R4c v3.2.0.0 it should be called solarnz, not tiamat. The guide has the correct link.

[Q] Rooted EE4 with CWM how to upgrade

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I just wanted to be sure. I believe I used this thread several months ago (probably June) when I rooted my Charge running EE4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
I haven't touched it since and now I would like to install either another ROM or the stock rooted Gingerbread (most likely another ROM).
My question is can I just download any ROM at this point and drop it on the SD card and then boot into recovery mode and install the ROM? Or could I also use the Clockworkmod ROM Manager app and install the ROM from there? Also do I have to disable the voodoo lagfix when installing these ROMs?
I believe I have the following versions:
ClockworkMod: 3.1.0.1 (according to the ROM Manager app)
CWM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery: 4.0.0.1 (This is what shows when I boot into recovery mode)
Thank you all in advance for your help! And yes I did do some searching before posting this, I just couldn't find something specific to my situation and wanted to be sure.

well..some of the new roms does not have a file that you can install using CWM from your SD card.....some of the roms install a new radio, kernal as well as the rom......and you would need to do this using a program called ODIN......
go into the development forum where you can get a TON of info!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Sorry thought I did post this in Q+A...thanks for the info, I was looking at Humble 5.0 RC2 mentioned in this post:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293429
Seems like a good ROM and I like the theme. Any thoughts on going with that one? Thanks.

I've no issues with Humble. I've run it before with no trouble. That one in particular is based on EP4P (a slightly older leak). Danalo is supposed to be releasing a final build based on the official EP4 Gingerbread soon, so you might consider waiting for it.
Cool thanks for the info, I'll put up with this updater thing popping up until that comes out...hopefully soon!
One more quick question, just so I have a better understanding of the phone flashing process...are there three parts that have to be flashed?
Kernel
ROM
Recovery
Thanks.
Depends on the Rom. Like this one has everything.

[Q] Problems with Clockworkmod

Ok so I'm currently trying to root and such and I was able to root my tab 2, but when i went to flash a ROM, Clockworkmod was gone, and all I had was the stock recovery. I found that I needed to use heimdall but I can't really figure out how to use it so that I can get my CWM back. I'm kinda newbie when it comes to how everything works, If anyone can help me somehow it would be greatly appreciated.
Look at the CWM thread in the 7" development forum.
I don't see a CWM thread in the 7" development forum
If you flash CWM, you need to remove the file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh or /system/recovery-from-boot.p. Otherwise, on every boot, the stock kernel will reflash the recovery partition, leaving you with stock recovery.

Sorry, I was thinking about the CWM thread in, um, another Tab 2 forum.
Go to the pinned rooting topic in the XDA forum here. Then go to the second post. Then follow the Xoomdev link...
All will be revealed. There's another thread there that addresses overwriting recovery, too.
What rooting method are you using? If your following this forum method you should have Odin and drivers installed. Maybe you didn't have root to begin with? All you need to do is to re Odin and follow instructions.
Pp.
Delivered to you via microwave technology .
I followed the root method in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25503906#post25503906
I used odin when I did it but i rebooted into CWM during the process and when I went back to flash it was stock.
Also how would I remove those files so that it doesnt go back to stock? (sorry for the newbieness... this is very frustrating to me and I can usually understand this fairly well)
EDIT: Figured it out, thanks guys for the help
Had the same error as you, still can't get passed it! :/
Frustrating!
Try a different USB slot. Several folks did that and bypassed initial problems.

[Q] Flashing ROM

Ok, so here goes a real noob question!
Although I am not a NOOB, but what I have read just seems a little outrageous.
Ok, So i have successfully rooted. I have seen some posts suggesting the use of ROM manager, and other saying NO.
I have read the NOOB guide, and that seems to be a little excessive to install a ROM onto this device.
Do you have to use the Heimdall method, because I do not have C++ installed, nor do I even know how to use it.
I want to get CWM installed, but I cant seem to find a method for just that.
So if I understand correctly, I have to install a Kernel w/CWM, then I can boot into CWM and flash a ROM onto the device?
I looked on the wiki, but some of the links there are broken, and there are missing files as well.
I really hate ask these kind of question, but I feel that I am really stuck here.
if someone could please help.

If you already rooted, which you stated that you are, then download an app called SGS Kernel Flasher. Then download any kernel you like for whatever firmware you are running (2.2 kernels for 2.2.1 and 2.3 kernels for 2.3.x) and flash with the app, Note- I recommended you flash this one if you are on 2.3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513287
Once your phone reboots it should have the kernel successfully installed and you should be able to boot into recovery by powering down the phone completely and holding the volume buttons and the power button

Yes you can use kernel flasher, from market, just make sure you're flashing a ROM/kernel with same os(froyo or gb) you have currently running... If moving from froyo to gb you can use odin

dude, why are you worried bout the C++ stuff?
Just download it from here and install it like an app, nothing fancy.
