is there a way to install the honeycomb music player on stock nexus s - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i tried searching the forum, but search is unavailable right now. anyway, i saw that people were able to install the honeycomb music player on the nexus s with CM7 and were able to do the cloud sync. I would like to do this on my stock nexus s as well. Is it possible? can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks
damn, my bad. i thought i was posting this in question forum. mod please move

I have been trying to do this with no luck. Keep getting application not installed error..
I don't think it is possible without rooting..

same problem. install unsuccessful. if i root the phone, install the honeycomb player, will i still get the stock OTA updates when they come out

I had it working on my stock Nexus S before I installed CM7. I was rooted though
Copy the Honeycomb apk to your phone.
*Backup the original music.apk before attempting this*
Use a file explorer with root access and mount it with R/W access and delete the original music.apk from system/app
reboot device.
Find the honeycomb music apk via file manager and install.
Note : Rooting does not affect OTA updates, nor will installing any software (.apk) OTA updates are lost when you install custom rom's

No, you will not. All of your upgrades will come from the devs supporting the ROM you are on. Or you will have to flash each update separately when they are available.

No rooting will not make him loose OTA updates.
As long as you are on the STOCK ROM you will continue to receive OTA updates no matter what .apk's you install, so installing the honeycomb music apk will not affect anything.
You loose your ability to receive OTA updates when you switch to a custom rom (CM7, etc.) This is because your installing non- original google software onto your phone.

if I'm not mistaken, the cloud sync function is only available in CM7, it does not work in the stock ROM (at least I tried once and it did not work).
I have CM7 RC2 installed and was able to install the Honeycomb music player as well. Strangely it does not install itself on top of the Gingerbread Music app, they exist in parallel.

Put honeycomb player in system/app change permissions to match other apps. Reboot install honeycomb player.apk overwrite normal music player and your done. You can always uninstall and go back to normal.

the only reason i want this music player is for the cloud sync feature. can anyone confirm if it works with stock rom?

Updating CM7 for first time.

I've had it awhile and noticing random issues that I want to update to hopefully fix.
I've avoided it for too long. How do I go about flashing new rom (I know how I should say). Do I have to reinstall all apps? Or if they are saved to SD card am I fine? That's the biggest question. Hah.
Thanks in advance.

Depends.
If there is an "update" available, then all you do is download the update.zip, and flash using ROM Manager or Recovery. This will update your system files, and you don't need to re-install apps, etc etc.
If there is a significant change between your version and the latest version, usually an update will not be available and you'll need to do a full flash.
In that case, just do the same as above, except format data/cache/system, and you'll need to re-install the apps (Google Market should do that for you, though... you just need to re-setup everything).
What if I closed the message to update cm7? Anyway to redownload just the update through the phone without downloading a brand new cm?

[Q] veetle app?

I downloaded the veetle app for my inspire but all I seem to get is audio, no video at all... any suggestion how I may fix this?
I just dl it and it's working fine with mine. It sounds to me like your flash player maybe. I use flash 10.1 or 10.2. When I update to 11 i have the same prob with videos, all sound no pic. I'd try checking your flash version and change it if needed.
I had this problem many times for all flash websites. This should be stickied lol
You can download latest flash player.
Force close all browsers.
If you have root then use Root explorer or Fileexpert
1) Navigate to /data/data.
Depending on your browser navigate to
1) Dolphin -
mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flashplayer
2) Miren - cn.miren.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flashplayer
Remove all permissions for config.data file.
Flash videos should work on all websites and apps
Tried and tested
Hope this helps.
I navigate to /data but there is nothing there, no other data folder. It is completely empty. I am using fileexpert
I even tried searching for flashplayer but no file was found...

Not sure. I used CM based for a week and couldnt deal with a few issues I had that are known issues with CM based roms. Go to the CM thread and search for flash player and it will lead you in the right direction.
Zelendel, may I ask what ROM you are using currently? and any particular reason why?
Metaldood, I tried your fix with the latest flash player but unfortunately did not work for me. I got it working with the earlier version of flash player. Thanks for the effort tho.

I use my own custom senseless rom by the name of Gotham. I wanted a rom that had all the best from the OEM like the drivers for BT and WIFI (proven to get better signal strength for both WiFi and BT) but didnt want the normal sense bloat. Only thing I had from sense was the dialer and contacts. (Best dialer contact combo I have ever seen) Did have the sense 3 lock with a custom settings smali code edit to allow editing the lockscreen without having sense installed at all but removed that now that widget locker has a sense 3 lock screen. So after tonight or maybe tommaro I will remove the lockscreen, gallery and the last few sense parts that I held on to for the lockscreen.

I am not sure why it did not work. Were you able to find the config.data file?
Yes I just had to check the root explorer setting on file explorer.
I use dolphin and tried doing what you told me but it did not work for me for some reason.

SoundSearch Widget

Hey guys,
I own a Nexus S i9023 in Australia and am running the latest XenonHD JB Rom. I was wondering that ever since the official release of JB, I have not been able to find or run the sound search widget on my device. Before the official release of JB, I was running the "beta" version of JB and the soundsearch widget was present then. Ever since the release, I cannot find or run the sound search widget on my device. When i try to install the apk for it, it asks me whether I want to replace a system app. I click yes and it tries to install but says there is already a package of that name.
Is there a fix for this? I have come across forums which have said to defrost the app using titanium backup or rom toolbox however, these fixes must be applied each time you reboot your phone. Does somebody know a permanent fix for this?
Sorry if this is a noob question but it would be nice if i got some assistance in this matter!
Thanks a lot in advance.
Search for "google ears nexus s". I found this it's a copy of the apk and instructions for ICS. Perhaps removing and re-installing will clear things up.
You are rooted right? Assuming you are, you need to install titanium backup and look for Google sound search(it's highlighted in red) and unfreeze it. Then you can use it.

Apps Not Staying Installed? (CM10)

I'm hugely confused right now. I'm currently running the 8/23 official nightly of CM10 on a clean flash and I recently installed Rom Manager Premium & Poweramp Pro on my phone, but the Rom Manager wouldn't install as I believe Rom Manager comes with CM10? So to get around that, I pushed the apk file to system/app and installed it from there, and did the same for poweramp because it would tell me there was not enough space in my phone to install it, yet I could install any other app. My problem now is that every time I reboot the phone I have to re-install the apps because the data isn't there (in app settings it says 0.0bytes of data), or even while the phone is running the apps crash and somehow delete themselves and I have to re-install them. I don't know what the hell is going on. Anyone care to help?
-Scratch that. I just pushed them to the root of my sdcard and they stuck.
I'm confused as to why that was happening though, when people commonly recommend pushing apps there for easy download?
One thing not to forget is that a lot of apps are not/don't play well with 4.1.

[Q] Stock browser apk

Hi friends
I tried replacing my HTC One S's stock browser but failed, now I can't for the life of me get the original back to work. Anything I install that would fill the gap of the original browser force closes.
Anyone knows how I can get the original HTC One S stock browser back?
I'm rooted and with Titanium Backup.
To be honest, it doesn't even have to be the original HTC One browser, it could be any ICS stock browser that has Flash capabilities, tabs etc.

Try Dolphin from the Market.
Thanks, but it has to be a com.android.browser.apk browser, not just any browser from Google Play (as long as it works on a stock HTC One S of course).
personally, i use google chrome because it's as good if not better than the stock browser. plus, since you already sign in with your google account to access the play store, it will automatically sync your favorites and what not if you use chrome on your regular computer. but it does support flash and has tabs, etc
Did you actually delete the stock browser? Or did you change a setting that is causing the problem?

I wanted to replace it with the stock browser from a different device through Titanium Backup, so yeah, it's gone.
Because I'm always moving through tabs and putting tabs away, the fact that the HTC Sense browser needed an additional click to access tabs each and every time angered me beyond reason. My ICS browser on the Xperia neo was much more practical, so I figured I'd replace it and my problem would be gone. Now I have neither...
I do use Chrome now, which is good except that it doesn't do Flash, but if I can get the regular browser back I expect to be able to get the official OTA updates, which so far are impossible because the updater checks for the original browser.
Edit: from your signature, you have the same device I have, mine is a T-Mobile One S too.
Here you go. Taken from Viper ROM.

Thanks for the help brother. My system is odexed so I think this can't work. I tried placing it in the /system/app folder either way, but it didn't work, as expected.
I posted out in the 2.31 deodexed rom thread.

Somehow my Titanium Backup doesn't recognize that file as a backup, though it does appear in the list of apps available within TB (see attached). Perhaps because a properties file is missing?
Anyway I'm told it's impossible to restore a deodexed browser into an odexed device, so I think this can't work... but thanks for trying.

No, this definitely doesn't work with system apps in HTC One S. I did have this option in other devices though, after rooting (Motorola Milestone, Xperia neo).
If at all possible to get the HTC Sense browser it'll be better because then I can install their official update.
JB 4.2 Browser.apk installable without root
So Chrome.apk has been pissing me off lately. It annoys me how Google keeps releasing updates with major usability regressions, (like the fuzzy text), and how the scrolling performance is still terrible compared to stock WebViews.
Was going to sideload AOSP Browser.apk, but as you guys know this requires a rooted device, and I wasn't willing to root my Nexus 4.
Anyways, I finally decided to do something about it a few weeks ago and hacked a few things in AOSP Browser.apk from JellyBean 4.2.2 so that it can run without root. Basically, I accomplished this by changing the name and making private Browser.apk's bookmarks provider so as to avoid conflict with the system. As a side effect, Browser.apk has a different bookmark database than Chrome.apk.
I've been running this for a few weeks and everything seems to work pretty well. Let me know if this works.
For your pleasure the source is available here on GitHub (h**ps://github.com/profiterole/browser.apk sorry too new to post links). For your convenience, a .APK is also available for download from GitHub (linked from readme)
Please note: this APK requires Android Jelly Bean MR1 (4.2), and has only been tested on a Nexus 4. I would also encourage you NOT to sign with your google account as this hasn't been tested and may overwrite any bookmarks you have synced.

I definitely wouldn't mind grabbing the basic browser.apk, moreso if possible to install without rooting. I don't know the ins and outs of github though. Am I supposed to download the BrowserActivity.apk file at the end of the page you linked?
