Good news. And bad news - Continuum Themes and Apps

Ill start with the good news. I got flash 10.1 installed on my phone. The bad news is I need a JIT complier. It works in the standard browser but only if you like choppy flash content. I've searched around for a JIT complier and the only one I found for 2.1 was buggy. Ill post a link below if you are interested

flash does not fully work on 2.1...flash lite or flash 1.0 whatever does and you can see some content you couldnt previously so people think they have full flash, but dont
try watching fox.com videos or something like that...wont work

I guess we just need to get on Samsung to release 2.2. Damn they are starting to irritate me!

Flash 10.1 only works on Default browser(Not Dolphin)

I had a hard time figuring this one out. But now that I did I want to share. I know, I know, most of you knew this already. Anyways, for the ones who didnt, it only works with default browser. It does not work with Dophin Browser (or probably any other browser.

Does anyone know the reason why all third party browsers are not able to display Flash content? (using either Lite or 10.1)
Is it some licensing issue that the developers of the other apps don't want to get into with Adobe?
Flash works now.
Just installed flash 10.2 and now it is played in Dolphin HD 4.5.

Umm am I missing something or is their a reason this post involving Flash is in the HeroC forum when we will never have any sort of stable Flash available for our phones???

I was wondering the same thing.
Confused?
Can someone please explain what the heck is going on here...are you guys talking about FlashLite? If I missed something than please set me straight but there is no such thing as true Flash 10.x for the Hero-C... If this has been figured out then I will be excited but if not please change your heading before this thread blows up.
It's a year-old thread. Let it die.

[ROM]{port,sort of} Stokes eclair 1.51 for Fender LE/mytouch 1.2 (need video help)

So.....My buddy @Ceasoner (not sure if thats his name here lol) Smacked our precious, pain in the ass kernel for the fender (also for mytouch 1.2) into Stokes newest Eclair rom. NOw, Ive seen other 2.1 roms that have working video, but we seem to have a bit of a problem with this and our kernel.
Youtube is not in there, but you can get TUbedroid or cinema and download. I used the dolphin browser, went to Youtube mobile site, could not play a video but was given the option to download.
Downloaded video And it pops up, or half screen... if you skip around it shows more frames. So im posting this in hopes that someone can help us it get going even though we still dont have the kernel source.
BUt, if you want a 2.1 rom that is about 93% working (minus BT and youtube) This one works great. The new music widget released also works perfectly on this. You also get 5 sceens

I'll look at it later. Too tired now. Nandroid is our friend after all.
Is the Gallery working or does it take awhile for it to load up the SD? I have a feeling it's the latter but I wanted to double check.
Seems to be running slower than I thought... maybe it's all the live wallpaper I'm running

Sorry.. Just tested it lastnight. It takes a very very very very very long time to load.. and I only got pics to show up 1 time out of nowhere. so it still seems to be the same problem as the video.

No that's good. I was worried my class six SD card was doing something strange. I think I'm going to switch back to the older one since the predictive text is funny.
This is nice and snappy, which makes me happy. First decent eclair ROM for this phone. And my paid apps work!!!!!!
... I'm going to get st0kes 1.4.2 stable version up later... this current one is experimental
I'm going to play with some of the sysctl.conf settings, see if I can speed it up a little more. It looks like even the stock kernel still has plenty of stuff to play with in /proc/sys/kernel
(edit) Swype works too!!! (though I had to use the trial release).

[Think Tank]Flash Lite on Froyo

Hey guys,
since we know that full flash 10.1 won't work on our devices (or its an disproportionate act to port it, because its not open source and due to the fact that flash 10.1 is not meant g1's processor).
But what about flash lite (which we know is working on g1 from the sense ROMs)? I read that the froyo browser does accept plugins (well he accepts the flash 10.1 on capable phones).
So did someone tried to port it? I know this is not the major thing on froyo, its hard enough to get the rest working properly (and i really thank those devs for spending so much time on it!!!). Many people would love to see at least flash lite on our devices. And in my humble opinion little flash animations worked fine for me on the sense roms with flash lite.
I tried to install the flash lite apk on the froyo roms availlable ... but it returned only fc's for me in browser. By now i am not running froyo but i will put some rom on and try to get a logcat on it.
Greetings
Crazy Idea: Why not make a port of an open source flashplayer (like lightspark) to ARM hardware?

MUCH MUCH BETTER idea. Certainly not impossible. In fact VERY POSSIBLE.
There are a few issues to work through in it though, certain dependencies on things like PULSEAUDIO, which we don't have on android (but would be nice if we did...)
There are actually THREE open source flash projects to work from.... gnash, swfdec, and lightspark. The first two are based on reverse engineering and tend to work. lightspark is from SPEC, is much NEWER, and really doesn't work yet. Lightspark is the best FOUNDATION, but is behind in FUNCTION.
Note: flash is a bad idea no matter how you look at it. You don't need it, it doesn't do anything USEFUL, I suggest just ignoring it. PURIFY! Let flash DIE!

Yeah, HTML5 FTW!
Now that iCrap officially banned flash many sites will at least alternatively offer html5 support, because otherwise the iPhonies cry.
Most of the flash content is unwanted commercials anyway. I would hate going on some site and swoop away 5MB of my data plan (which gets downgraded to gprs speed if I get above 200MB/month) with some nagging commercial video... (€: OK, this could also happen with html5... would hate it anyway)
well i know that if flash lite could be rid of its dependency on sense it would work. it has the correct settings to work . it has 2 different ways to enable flash while the flash 10.1 has only one of those. you would have to check the 2.1 port of 10.1 to understand what im talking bout. it might also need to be built on 2.1 or 2.2.

youre right ^^ the dependency of sense is the point which prevents flash for working on froyo out of the box in my opinion. I was thinking the problem of the non-sense (not nonsense lol) browser was, that it wasnt capable to use plugins. But it looks like that the whole sense framework has something to do with flash working on sense roms. Maybe some dev could take hand on that flash lite and compare it to how the flash 10.1 plugin interacts with froyo and the browser.
I aggree with all of you that flash might die and that there are better possiblities to create an active web ... but its a fact that its heavily used in the web (so with a dataplan youre not forced to use flash ... its just that i hear many ppl wanting it). I dont wanna start a discussion about usability of flash -this is just about how to port it to froyo on g1 for ppl who like to see it
Well from the port thread over in the ego forum they found that both versions of flash have a similar plugin method for the browser. I will have to find it later.

Sounds interesting! I searched the thread but didn find it. If the method of linking the plugin to the froyo browser was similiar there might be a possibility to use the flash lite without the sense framework i am curious to read that
Has anybody tried to use not just only the flash.apk but also the libs that come in sense 2.1 roms?
because missing libs can well be the cause of force closes...
alternatively we can wait until froyo comes out for sense phones like the hero...
There was another [THINK TANK] for this.... it died. Hopefully this will, too.
I tried modifying an APK to do this. I put the flash lite plugin in the flash APK and flashed on CM6.... Didn't work, their was no force closes, it did not even show up as a plugin.

the other think tank was on full flash/flash 10.1 for eclair ... this is / was impossible and not a very clever idea.
This is about porting flash lite which we know from sense roms works on our devices.

that was what i experienced :/ maybe it has something to do with the libs and its not just enough that the froyo browser does takte plugins

Then how about you go back to just lurking before opening your mouth about something you clearly have no idea about? The fact that FLASH SUCKS and should have been gone a LONG time ago but it's still around is the only pathetic thing here. That's what I originally said, and that's what I'm saying now. Also, I'm sure most people will have no interest in this and it's most likely going to fail. Now, let those balls drop and man the hell up.

Definitely. Flash is very much the standard for now, and I don't see that changing for some time. HTML5 is great for very basic video playing, but it gets hard to do things dynamically with it. Personally, I've been wishing I could watch the Daily Show on my phone.

Like SenseUI?

this is for anyone who likes/wants SenseUI and doesn't want to root and flash a ROM or jus doesn't have a ROM available for their device I have found this after AGES of searching the internet...don't remember where I found it though...REALLY sorry if this was already posted
This is a launcher that I found to be pretty close to actually Sense...I compared to my Hero...also this worked on jus about every 2.0+ device I own and all my friends devices I tried it on...
not sure about anything below 2.0 but I doubt anyone still uses anything that low

I know a lot of people using stock Android that would like this, especially if it can run Sense widgets! (Not me - I <3 Launcher Pro!!)
Can you post any screenshots?
It's the ADW launcher 1.1.5 Sense skin. I'll get pictures of it here soon.
well I jus took a pic but my cam sucks lol the pic is not that great and dark but this is my stock Samsung Intercept and runs jus as smooth as it did on my buddies Captivate Galaxy S

[Q] Is alt rom still needed to make gtab better

Noobie here so please be kind.
I have been reading posts for only a couple of weeks and was wanting to try tnt lite 4.2 but what I can't understand is it really needed after the OTA update. Is there any real advantage? I get the handango market and play "angry birds" just fine. I guess what I am asking is it still worth it?
I have install cwm but just wanted some input before I pulled the trigger.
I have not done it
I am using their stock ROM without any issues for the past month now. Switched to the classic home and it has been working great. Yaa there is no android market, but there are lots of other places to get apps and you can easily side load apps and they have been working great for me! I don't think I will be changing the ROM on mine (maybe if someone gets honeycomb going on it then I might reconsider).
Hope this helps!
I use stock 3588 with the enhancement pack. Stablest I have seen yet. Ran both Vegan and TNT Lite and liked them, but little intricacies caused my to go back. Sounds like there is an OTA in the works that looks pretty sweet.
TnT seems to be cooking up an update that, if released, will add a LOT of the speed enhancements that TNT Lite has had for the last 2 months.
You'd still want a custom ROM for full market, root, adhoc and a few other things - but I agree that TnT is getting better with each update they make. I hope that continues.
I'm also using stock with enhancement pack. Market is still somewhat limited as compared to my Droid 1 but you can side load.
Problem with side loading is the malware. Even GAM has been getting some nasty bugs. TNTlite has been very stable and faster. I ran stock until a week ago.
I just ordered one of these. I didnt do my research until after I bought it. I didnt realize it doesnt have the android market. So, I'm guessing it doesnt have the google apps either??? Like no gmail, youtube, etc?
Can you just get the market apk and side load it and have the full android market?

No need for that if all you want is market. Either install the enhancement pack, whuch gives you market plus more, or get the GoogleServicesFramework.apk and Vending.apk and put them in /system/app.

And it starts! LOL the non researching 10k+ crew are probably flooding the xda as we speak trying to figure out why this thing isn't what they expected
I like to think of it as a Pinto engine in a Ferrari lol, You just need to swap out the rom with tnt lite or another great rom and you will be juuuuuuust fine. Most of all roms come with market prebuilt in. If you want to stick with stock Viewsonic 2.2... well then IDK what your thinking lol
is there a way to get Gmail contacts and Google Calendar without flashing a different rom. I plan on keeping the stock rom most likley BUT really want gmail-contacts-calendar sync with google . ( dont care as much about market as I sideload)
