The Malata T8 is here - G Tablet General

http://www.hkepc.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=1576672&extra=page=1
It's a T2 with 9.7" IPS screen.
You can read it all there.
P.S. pershoot and bekit, you should get this soon.....hahaha

How much is the T8?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

Well, the article says 2000 yuan. That's around $300 if I'm not mistaken.

So, is this essentially a G-Pad with an IPS 1024x768 screen?
If so, it would be a bargain at $300, the solution to our screen woes.
Will it be sold in the US?

shall I see what I can get them for from my supplier that I get everything else from?
[EDIT] just looked at alibaba and they look to run $700 and up!... I'll see what I can find out.

Can't hurt to ask. If in G-Tab range, I would seriously consider buying one and selling the G-Tab.
But if $700, I am way happy with my $390 G-Tab.

A user feedback.

我上星期四在廣州天河電腦城買了這台T8,
人仔3900買的,
玩了五天便2000人仔賣掉了,
這機wifi和3G的訊號非常差,
尤其wifi問題非常嚴重,
經常斷線和接收不到!
From google translate. he said that he bought it last thursday for $3900 Yen (US $600), and 5 days later, he sold it for $2000 yen (US $300). The wifi and 3g were poor and had big problem... something like that..
I will get Xoom then.

Currently, listed at a crazy RMB 3999, which is about USD 608.
That's why I said I would not buy it at that price.
I am quite sure it will drop when it start mass production.
After all, iPAD is only RMB 2888, even though this RMB 3999 come with a WCDMA module, it 's still a suicidal act to sell it at that.
The IPS is beautiful. I have the very first batch of T2 which use a 90 degree off cut of the TN panel, so that the negative effect is on the short side and viewing angle is better than the Viewsonic Version. Still, T8 beats it, no doubt.

Hahaha....This guy is funny and not very bright....
Here is the story, he brought it from the offical story at listed price, I think he must be really love it.
anyway, he said that there is WIFI problem and b****ing about it at the forum.
So the people in the forum told him that he said contact the store and get a exchange.
He said that forum is a offical forum and keep b****ing about it there, so the people there got mad and banned him.
He is mad then sold the unit for RMB 2000, which is a bit more than USD 300.
Since there is a exchange policy in the store, the person who brought it off him took it back to the store and exchange a new unit.......hahaha, a real steal at USD 300.
His original unit, was tested in the store and it connect WIFI OK, so they don't really know what he is talking about.
That's why I shown the WIFI Analyzer picture and have it side by side with my T2 and shown that they are about the same performance.
I guess this person just has load of money and does not know better.....

Yep... Official word is my cost is $630 (alibaba is even higher). I was told that Malata is going to have to start dropping prices due to the iPad price dump.
I was also told that it's mainly to be an international seller, so unless US Merchants or someone like that pics it up we probably wont see it too streamlined here. ALSO, means very little DEV love due to lack of availability.
Oh well, I would have played for $300.
Time will tell.

$400 US, and I would consider it - Tegra2 and IPS would be a match made in heaven.

It2steve! you can be our us Source!! that or find out what screen they used so we can use it on our Gtablets!

Malata T8 details
The price of the Malata T8 is 3000 RMB = 461 US$
This is for the WLAN / 3G version and it is from the Malta online shop. You need to have Alipay or other chinese payment methods to buy it there.
You find the description including Pictures for the panel on the Malata .cn Homepage. The description is not available in english so far but it is easy to navigate anyway.
There is no clear indication for the Android version, but it is Android 2.2. Quite good is the USB-Ethernet adaptor. It is not clear for me if the adaptor comes with the tablet but the tablet is ready to use for that interface. Further more Malate makes advertisment for the use of external hard drives without additional power adaptor.

hey at this price I'd rather wait and buy the ASUS Transformer $400 + Keyboard Dock $150 = $550, and it's Honeycomb w/ Tegra2 and 1280x800 IPS as well!

Yep, at 399 ya can't beat the Transformer. I have mine on pre-order at B&H as of this morning. I just wonder exactly how many other are on pre-order ahead of me. LOL

Returning for Galaxy Tab =X

Ok guys, it was a good run... a week run. I don't mind this tablet, I tried TNT 2.2 and ZPAD. I liked them both, TNT a little more.
-This tablet has AMAZING potential, and awesome hardware such as the processor. Software out of the BOX is again like everyone says: HORRIBLE.
Overall build quality is pretty good, not considering the little creeks you get holding the center of the back.
-The official thing that ticked me off to return this tablet was.....wait for it............ LCD Display and viewing angles. Im sorry but it seems like its from the Early 2000's not a display we would see in many electronics Now a days.
-Another deciding factor for me is the touch sensitivity, didn't do it for me. Not as sensitive as I would like.
-Non-illuminated keys, hard to use at night, keys get pressed easily at night.
So after thinking if i should wait for iPAD2, since the rumors are racing; or get Galaxy Tab,
Ive decided to get the Galaxy Tab - I got a brand NEW Galaxy Tab(Sprint) on Ebay for $500 - White backing, Sealed BRAND NEW In BOX. No contract.
I'll be turning the Data OFF and using it as WiFi only, It wont be linked to Sprint, I will NOT activate the 3g.
I got to check the device out, and its extremely portable, its nice. 7 Inch isnt THAT bad at all.
Any comments?
Sorry to see you go. Enjoy your new tablet!
I see these goodbye posts all the time in all the forums I've been a part of. And "sorry" is almost in each post?At the end you just need to be happy with your product. Personally I am not replacing this tablet for anything that's out right now because of the dual core tegra 2 processor. My next tablet is going to be another T2 but definitely a better screen and hopefully a gig of RAM. I don't care if its a 10 or 7 inch tablet because both are practically the same in reference to portability since I can't fit them in my pocket.
Honestly, the only goodbye post that I am looking out for is Roebeets, Rothnic, Bekit, or any other devs. But I figured i'd chime in because I don't think anyone should be sorry for moving on to a different device....unless you were getting a cruz tablet then it would be flame city for you. Jk
I'm sure you'll enjoy ur galaxy tab because its a nice device.
Not gonna disagree with any of your complaints, and if it is not right for you, then get the one you want.
Personally I don't mind the screen, since it is only for me, and I just hold it at the right angle. The non-illuminated buttons are a bit of a silly oversight (and I would much prefer real buttons to those capacitive ones) but I don't mind so much since it has on-screen soft-buttons.
I like it because it is well powered (battery and processor), inexpensive, and has a large display.
Most importantly is that it is easily modifiable. If it wasn't it would have gone right back. It nearly did anyway because I was falsely told by Sears' website that it was a viewpad 10. Since roebeet, rothnic, omiji (? sorry can't remember), and all the others I cannot name have made this device software so good I see awesome potential beyond the great tablet it has already become.
So VS owes XDA and it's senior modders a lot since without them probably all of us would have returned the POS that VS put on the shelves.
In summation Thank You to the XDA team working on the G tab, and if anyone else is thinking about returning this product consider this before you do so, because Samsung, Apple, or any other manufacturer will not give the type of updates and support you can get here from an open device like this, from a place like XDA.
And to the OP, I hope you enjoy your Galaxy better, I have a Captivate and I like it. I am sure if you want a good experience out of the box like what I have in my Captivate, you will be very happy with it.

The notionink adam goes on preorder later today also for $400-500. I'd suggest looking into that tablet also.

Shouldn't be too bad, and at the price that Samsung is hawking these for they should support it for a while and better than any other currently shipping Android tablet.
7": yeah, I'm missing that form factor ALOT myself, but I just can't bring myself to give up Tegra2 for something lesser even for a better(IMNHO) form factor(7") nor a better screen(awful gTab viewing angles).
I'm keeping my gTab(actually I'm stuck now anyways past my 14d Staples return) and evaluating 7" complementary(to gTab) tablets, of which(ATM) Nook Color is looking nice w/IPS screen and a8 CPU plus now rooted. Just need to get over to a B&N and try out a demo unit... (want to see how overall system and browser fare speedwise @800MHz on an a8...)
Might just wait out until next year and see if anyone coughs up a 7" Tegra2 or one of the other SoC companies cough up their dual core a9 SoCs and they get in a 7"...
Notion Ink: They sound nice, but since they're a new/small tablet only company I'm waiting to see if they survive to release their 2nd tablet, hopefully Tegra3 based...
OP should avoid the 101 then, since mega gimped device.
Probably best to wait until March. There should be 2.3 or higher Tegra 2 tablets all over the place by then.
Maybe a very stable out of box 2.3 Gtablet by then too..... Maybe at least.

$375 only!
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/09/notion-ink-adam-pre-order-to-begin-today-pricing-starts-at-375/
I have been refreshing the NI site for days ready to buy Adam but when I got up to bat I couldn't pull the trigger.
$375 is with a standard LCD - not PixelQI. PQ is $499 w/ Wifi or $550 w/ 3G
Shipping is $50 - the thing comes straight from factory in India.
However, a few things made me hesitate on the device I have waited a year on.
- you must also pay 'customs' but nothing states what this fee is
- shipping is $50 through DHL which is not insured
- ccavenue is processing orders and they do not take MC
- you are billed in full as soon as you place order while estimated ship date is 6-8
- given no further manufacturing delays and that shipping is quick 6-8 weeks is a long wait
- specs list "8+ GB Flash"...so is that 8GB or what?
- crazy amount of return conditions the least of which is getting RMA 7 no later than 7 days after shipment (probably take longer than that for DHL to get it to you) and a 20% restocking fee for 'open' items (that's $100 + return shipping)
- no mention of 'bad pixel' policy
So while I am in love with this thing and will be so jealous for those brave enough to order site unseen (not even a hands on or real photo on website) I am just not that brave.
Now the question is....do I open my gTablet and play with it until round 2 or do I look at something maybe a little bit pricier but with a better display?

For those that are wanting but not ordered an Adam - the Pixel QI versions are already sold out. All they have left now is the LCD version.
Since I couldn't pull the trigger on the Adam I guess the only thing standing between me unboxing my g tablet is questions of the viewing angles. Since my wife picked this up from the store I have not seen it in person. Is it really a deal breaker? What is Office Depot return policy on open products - I know during the holidays returns are extended until Jan 8 but not sure if that mean sealed in the box or not? I imagine I could just go and return it Dec 26 if it is that bad....stores are usually so crazy that day they ask few questions about returns.
Oh, and about Notion Ink. They updated their blog explaining some of the conditions (such as $50 shipping) and it is a little more comforting. I never doubted they were a good, honest company. I think my issue is that they are biting off more than they can chew.
Building a fantastic product in a lab is one thing - seeing a new product introduction through the entire manufacturing process is something completely different and that is where I am not sure of NI's experience. While the prospect of waiting sux, I think I am more comfortable doing so than jumping in on the first run.
It is not a question of NI taking care of me if there is an issues, it is a question of when. I am still jealous of all those who did place the order and will kick myself the day everyone starts posting their unboxing videos :-(

Office Depot will give you a return gift ticket for Jan 8th (they did for me). Since Flash and the acceleromter have issues out of box, Office Depot should allow return and no restock or forced store credit (they do this for opened electronics). The store manager wrote on my receipt "Full return allowed", since he was aware of the issues.

For personal viewing/usage I don't really find it to be that noticeable except when I rotate the tablet specifically to look at this and was simultaneously checking for backlight bleed(had bad bleed on GT & WPDN).
Sorry, but there's a problem with a company that immediately charges for an order when they KNOW it will not be shipping for a while. They're SUPPOSED to NOT charge UNTIL the item is shipped or about to be shipped. So this tells me that they're tight on money ATM...

Holy crap! $130 G Tablets?

I don't know about this seller specifically, but found this looking for Gtab stuff at Aliexpress. I also don't fully understand their "escrow" process, but it looks like they don't release the funds to him until you confirm delivery. His lack of feedback bothers me some.

Yeah, exactly why I hesitate. It does show some purchases though, so I will be monitoring it for feedback from them.
I try to stay away from aliexpress. Heard too many horror stories of people never getting their items, or what they received was not what the ordered, or it just broken.
On top of that the specs advertised are wrong. A good indication to stay away from a seller. Usually it means the seller has no idea what the product they are selling is. You could wind up with a Viewpad.
Customs
Are these things going to get stuck at customs? IT2STEVE, you have some importing experience (docks/cases/adapters)... how easy/painful is the process? And what should we expect to pay in taxes/duty/fees?
There is no feedback, but there is a large order history, so maybe something will pop up there soon. The order screen does say that this store is 7.8% above average for orders completed (tho it doesn't say what the average is!)
As for the specs... the right specs are in the article below the summary. That sort of thing happens on EBay all the time. He probably posted the other tablet first (the Intel Atom/Win7 one in his store) then started from that ad to make the GTab one.
this is very good, that would be true
I do not believe
buy, then we Tell

2. "AliExpress Supplier Since: 05 Jan 2011"
Imho if it sounds too good to be true.... it is.
I can afford to risk buying these, but is it too much of a risk? I wouldn't mind getting atom based tablets, because it would be easier to then install a real OS, like Ubuntu. I've been waiting for one to turn up at a local Sears Oulet store. My g-tablet runs great with the stock + updates, so I would use a used one to experiment with.

Please don't get yourself scammed. Nobody is going to be able to offer a new G Tab for less than $300.
The parts cost for a G Tablet is probably about $170 (Galaxy Tab was about $205 in estimated parts cost according to the breakdowns I've seen, you can back into costs for a G Tablet pretty easily), assembled and packaged, figure $180-$190 for a G Tablet. And companies have shipping, overhead, fixed costs, and returns to cover.
I'm guessing that in 1000 unit lots, Sears et. al. paid something like $250 per unit, and they dumped the returns at slightly over cost (maybe even at their cost?) from Sears outlet when they were selling returned units for $279.

You are forgetting that the manufacturing is in China. Different processes and different laws governing this. I used to be a purchasing agent for IBM and bought many millions of dollars worth of parts for manufacturing so I am pretty confident that the Gtab could be had for well under $200US.
However, after a little more research - I now agree with ALL of the naysayers.
This guy is definitely a scammer and is not to be trusted.

the VERY FIRST dock and first lot I ordered took a while. I have it going with a vendor now that it 'seems' I'm getting things about three days after he ships. For the most part when I'm getting a tracking number it's being delivered on time. I've even seen the 'notice' where customs has opened and inspected it.
I had my ZT-180 tablet seized by the local U.S.Customs office. It was seized because it did not have a sticker saying the wireless was FCC approved, and/or the proper documents regarding this. I had to come up with the forms and documents, AND pay a $100 fee.
The only reason I even considered this offer was because the g-tablet is marked as being FCC approved.
I just placed an order for 1 lot with aliexpress. Only way to tell if it is O.K. is to try, have fingers crossed.
Wish you the best of luck Roy. Personally, I was about to order this G-TAB from aliexpress a week ago, but Thanks to God I stumbled upon this website . Have to be cautious from now on.
Secondly, I have seen Simon Hans other products (except the G-tab and Intel atom 10'' Tablet pc .. which are going awfully cheap), to be sold at their normal prices and with a good transaction history. I have also dropped an email to him but no reply yet. That said, Aliexpress is by far the most reliable chinese trade marketplace, better than Dhgate and globalsources.
Perhaps he's selling it off cheap when shackles pulled the G-TAB off their shelves due to early software issue or rejection issues and somehow VS sold their g-tabs to China due to rejection and to cover its break-up cost.
Anyways, I am more concerned that you and hope you get your G-TAB
Since they hold payment in escrow untill I"m in receipt of tablets not to concerned. Just disappointed that it did not work. But thats life, just wait for another good deal around the corner. If this turns out alright and I did not try I would be more disappointed in myself for missing it.
Roy

gtabs not on any sites anymore?

So I just noticed that the G Tablet is no longer listed at Sears, Staples, and Kmart online hope this doesnt mean anything bad for the future of the gtab.
still there
I'm still seeing it on amazon.com and Kmart's site.
I noticed that myself. If you follow the "purchase online" link from Viewsonic, all links show not available. I did talk to a rep @ my local Office Depot who said he just received 6 more on his last order that stated "final shipment". They are now directed to order the VIEWPAD 10 which is the dual boot W7/ android version.
Makes me wonder if Viewsonic is halting production on the GTab.

Def not listed on kmarts website. unless you are mistaking it for another device, and as said in previous post on viewsonics website they arent showing it listed anywhere either. as for that dual boot tablet that seems cool but last i heard it was running 1.6 which is just not acceptable.
GTAB still available at the Office Depot
This is where I bought mine, and the price dropped by $20.

Good to see that it is still on some shelves but it is a little scary that it looks like they are dropping it since noone is carrying it anymore, even though we have the best devs out there with the gtab in hands doing ground breaking work every day on xda

Not at all, surprised this thread isnt getting more attention esp for the love we all have for our tablets. It was pointless though to have those 2 links if they pointed to nothing lol.
*UPDATE 2*
Just got off the phone w/ Viewsonic. Production has NOT been halted on the GTab's. Rep was only able to find it available at Sears. Nowhere else. What "might" be causing the problem is guys like us buying up all the stock from local retailers.
I was told that K-Mart especially will pull links to products that are out of stock to prevent surplus back orders.
We'll just have to keep an eye open for future developments.
Heading to Office Max right now to buy the last 1 in stock.
Brings my stable to 4. I'm happy.

Wow I ordered mine two days ago. Just under the wire. Hopefully it will be back better then ever at some point.
Tt
Those links still do not produce a Gtab for purchase.
Compare:
Gtab http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/
Vpad10 http://www.viewsonic.com/products/vpad10.htm
The Rep @ VS had no explanation as to why those links were pulled from the Gtab site.
The Gtablet has always been a stepping stone, so if it has vanished, the issue now is will the VP at Viewsonic that told us of the continued support and software updates still hold true?
BTW, the Viewpad is inferior for a few reasons for Android:
1. A lot less battery life due to Atom cpu and required fan.
2. Windows overhead
3. Android boot mode is 1.6 only
4. Atom CPU may never get support higher than 1.6, since Microsoft is pushing for the newer chipset to be used in tablets. Do not let OEM try to BS you that 2.1, yet alone 2.2 or higher is coming- Too late in the chipset curve to bother.
For an Android device and the combination of power and battery life- the Gtablet is FAR better than the Viewpad.
BTW, the current Atom based Viewpad is a stepping stone as well.
While the area Staples stores do not have the gTablets any longer, my local store's tech person told me this afternoon he "expects to have them back in stock soon." No details but then there never are about tech stuff availability when not in the store or computer. We shall see.
Sears has plenty in stock......store today had 3 or 4....

it is the reality I guess, whether stores/sites still selling gtab or not, in the next few months, people won't buy it anyways. There are more better tablets (at least on the paper) coming in next few months with a similar price points such as ASUS, Elocity A10, etc. Unless Viewsonic decides to upgrade the model with a better screen, better software, etc.. I don't see how gtab can compete with others if the price is still around $350 - $400..
On the positive side, the hardware is still good enough to run the next android OS (honeycomb). I will be very satisfied if I can get honeycomb on my gtab and it can last a year..
Just my 2 cents.
That is not the g-tablet.. its the viewpad.. its different. Sears did sell both.

Dude most people here would not buy the G-Tab for more then $300. They had a $280 woot the other day. Sell it for $300 and you will get bites.
Amazon has it for $340.
Also, Get the $400 Asus eee honeycomb that is coming out for Best buy. $150 more but you get IPS and honeycomb.
This post makes me sad . Ordered my Woot tablet last week for $279.99 and it arrives today! I don't want to see someone selling!
and yeah considering like half the people here now got a tablet on woot, good luck for selling it for a hair over $284.99.
I hate to say it, these folks are right, your price is a little high. You may want to wait and let the fine devs do their thing to provide us with a nice honeycomb rom.

You can't blame him. He probably got it when the gtab was still in the $350-400 range.
Added by edit.
PS - My elderly dad wants one after he saw me using it. He mainly wants to use it to surf the net while sitting on his comfortable chair and have a 10 inch screen gps. I'm waiting for it to go sub 300 again to buy it for him.

Don't always compare pricing from other countries to how US pricing will work out. Companies rarely do that themselves. For example a 160gb ps3 on amazon uk that's been discounted from 255 pounds to 229 pounds. 229 pounds is $369 that same ps3 sells on Amazon's US website for $299.99 $70 less than the Brit's discounted price. The UK usually gets shafted the most when it comes to electronic prices so they're the worse to convert to what the US price will be.
After finding out about the Asus Eee Transformer yesterday, I immediately sold my gTablet for $280 on Craig's List (which included an extra AC adapter and the Mazata dock). That's what I had paid for it myself a few weeks ago, so I'm breaking even. If the retail prices for the Transformer floating around on the Internet are accurate, that could be a killer tablet. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these puppies!
Ron
Well guys, I must admit... I had some fun with the gtablet... for a couple days. Then my mom came over last night and flashed her iPad 2. I know these devices are different, but the screen is SO much better. And it's so much lighter! In any case, the gtablet is not for me. I've put mine on eBay. I started the bidding at 1 cent, and I have 100% seller rating so I know some of you are looking for a second tablet - this might be your chance!

[Q] What on earth is the TF700?

So I've been planning to purchase a transformer prime TF-201 for a while, and I was going to purchase it within the next few weeks. Now I'm finding information on this TF-700, whatever it is, but not enough to understand if it's a replacement or an upgrade or what?
Does anyone know about it?
Any details helpful
Cheers!
here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Transformer+Pad+Infinity&l=1
Basically it is a Transformer Prime that will have a higher resolution screen, 3G/LTE in some models and a slightly higher price tag. It also has a partially plastic back panel which should improve GPS and WiFi performance.
Is it worth waiting for? I'm a student, any information on the price range yet?

It will also have gorilla glass 2 on it. Price range being thrown around is $599 for 32gb and $699 for 64gb.
The processor is supposed to be a little faster and a higher resolution front facinf camera. It may not get as long of life for the battery, but the higher resolution, improved glass and hopefully better GPS and WIFI are a go for me.
I liked everything about my Prime except it seemed like the glass wasn't up to snuff, mine scratched while docked and also started micro cracking along the black bezel. So I sent it back waiting on this now.

not till end of June or july. Price, supposedly starts at $599 for 32gb wifi model. lte model much more expensive. Likely $699+data plan.
Prime is more than worth getting now. its the better deal.
I don't see the need for that high resulotion on a 10,1 tablet. The battery life will probably get worse unless they put in a bigger one. That's what apple had to do with the new lolpad anyway
I do however see the point of the plastic cover making wifi and gps better. I don't have any wifi issues myself on my "c2" prime but gps is not that good. But i don't use it anyway. Got gps built into my car and if i'm on foot looking for something i just use my phone

Depends on when you need a tablet, and if you need a higher resolution screen or 3g/LTE.
If you need/want a tablet right now, the Transformer Prime is excellent. If you don't it might be worth waiting for. The WiFi model is allegedly going to start off at $599 for the 32GB model, which would make the 64GB model priced at around $699.
The 3G/LTE models will probably start off at $699 for the 32GB model and go up from there. There is no solid info on what networks the 3G/LTE models will be compatible with and if they are carrier exclusive that will affect the price.
The TF Infinity is rated at 9 hours of battery life, instead of the 10 that the Prime is rated for. Also it will be pushing more pixels with only a slightly updates processor so performance wise it might be a little bit slower (WiFi model, anyway).
If Price is an issue, Asus is also releasing the Transformer Pad 300 which is nearly identical to the Prime, however it loses the Super IPS screen capability (its less bright at maximum screen brightness) and comes with only 16GB of internal storage. It also comes in brighter colors (red, blue & white) has a plastic back (which will improve WiFi and GPS) and a price tag expected to start at $399.
Nobody mentioned it is also a different proccesor.
It runs a 2 core snapdragon (if I remember right).
That brings up other issues.
I know the difference between 2 cores at "x" speed can be as fast or faster than 4 cores at "x" speed IF the code is written to take advantage of it. Remember that the 5 core Nvidia Tegra platform has a lot of support so I am hesitant to say this new one will be as fast.

Where din you get the info about it being launched only in June-July? I am currently looking around for a tablet and I am oscillating between the TF201, the iPad3 and the TF700T and I would go for the latter but only if I can buy it around May...
You have to guarantee that the TF-700 is really going to be released in June/July. If I remember correctly the TF-201 was supposed to be released in November, but it wasn't really available in the UK until February. If this happens again, you might have to wait until September/October for the new tablet.

The rumors indicated that the TF700T will be launched in the June/July time frame. However there has been no official word from Asus on the matter, and even if they are "released" in June/July they might be in very short supply for several months after that.
The TF Prime was technically released in November, but most retailers are just now starting to get a steady stock of them.

To be honest I'm having trouble finding a prime in the UK anyway. I mean I'm in London and I can't even find a store with a bloody display model so I can play with it before I actually buy it. I definitely second that thought. Prime is the undisputed king of tablets right now and by the time TF700 comes out, the competition will be much tougher (other Tegra3 tablets or windows tablets). There are a lot of uncertainties coming with the TF700 also. No guarantee on the exact launch date, and like everybody mentioned, Asus is quite inacurate when it comes to precise dates. No guarantee that the battery life will be as awesome. No guarantee that the plastic cover will totally erase the issues with GPS and Wifi performance.

Joncy...your best bet is to pop into a currys as they have them on display when theyu have stock and they should be ablt to check on their systems to see which shops have them in stock. PC World (same group) can also do the same, but for some reason the staff do not seem as interested or as helpful as the currys staff!!
I don't know if carphone warehouse shops have any on display in their shops but if there is one locally it might be worth a punt!!
The other option is to get one from ebuyer or Amazon and use the 7 days distance selling regs to try out the TFP...the trouble with this option is that it will cost you 500 sovs for the pleasure and given that amount of testing time you might be more tempted to keep it once you have played with it.
Remember there are far more happy punters out there than unhappy ones.
One little tip is that when booting for the first time you might think that there is light bleed (I did) but once it is fired up and displaying whatever, this is nowhere near so visible.
Good luck
Andy

I would suggest you wait for the 700. The 700 is going to replace the Prime no matter what other people tell you. For $100 more you are getting a higher res screen, option of LTE for another 100, and wifi and gps that actually function. If it weren't for Prime owners complaining, ASUS would've slipped the Prime under the rug like it never happened. There is no reason for ASUS to have so many lines of products with such minor differences.
Also, because of the aluminum backing, the Prime has significantly crippled wifi range. The range is weaker than my 3 year old Sony x10 phone. So if your University is like mine in which the wifi isn't the greatest everywhere on campus then that might become a problem.
