Holy crap! $130 G Tablets? - G Tablet General

I don't know about this seller specifically, but found this looking for Gtab stuff at Aliexpress. I also don't fully understand their "escrow" process, but it looks like they don't release the funds to him until you confirm delivery. His lack of feedback bothers me some.

Less than $300 for a lot of two is an amzingly great deal, I just wish I had an extra $300 laying around. Hell, if I had a few grand I would probably buy him out and undersell everybody on ebay with them!

Yeah, exactly why I hesitate. It does show some purchases though, so I will be monitoring it for feedback from them.

I try to stay away from aliexpress. Heard too many horror stories of people never getting their items, or what they received was not what the ordered, or it just broken.
On top of that the specs advertised are wrong. A good indication to stay away from a seller. Usually it means the seller has no idea what the product they are selling is. You could wind up with a Viewpad.

Customs
Are these things going to get stuck at customs? IT2STEVE, you have some importing experience (docks/cases/adapters)... how easy/painful is the process? And what should we expect to pay in taxes/duty/fees?
There is no feedback, but there is a large order history, so maybe something will pop up there soon. The order screen does say that this store is 7.8% above average for orders completed (tho it doesn't say what the average is!)
As for the specs... the right specs are in the article below the summary. That sort of thing happens on EBay all the time. He probably posted the other tablet first (the Intel Atom/Win7 one in his store) then started from that ad to make the GTab one.

this is very good, that would be true
I do not believe
buy, then we Tell
1. "No feedback received for this supplier over the past 6 months"
2. "AliExpress Supplier Since: 05 Jan 2011"

Imho if it sounds too good to be true.... it is.

I can afford to risk buying these, but is it too much of a risk? I wouldn't mind getting atom based tablets, because it would be easier to then install a real OS, like Ubuntu. I've been waiting for one to turn up at a local Sears Oulet store. My g-tablet runs great with the stock + updates, so I would use a used one to experiment with.

I was thinking the same thing. He doesn't have any feedback yet, maybe because he just joined AliExpress on January 5th. I found these comments about the seller. Not too good:

I want to pull the trigger on this, but I'm not a dumb-ass. I need to drink some beer first, then I will become a dumb-ass, and may purchase them!

LOL, Scotch for me - but I would do it right now if I had the extra simoleons. I've wasted larger amounts of cash on riskier things!

Those reviews were not good! I'll stay away from this one... or at least I won't be first

Well, I do have a bottle of this:
http://www.greatlakesdistillery.com/pumpkin.htm
Don't be fooled by the name. It is a whiskey!

There's no way this is legit. The same seller is also selling a 9.7" atom tablet with a 16Gb SSD and 3G with Windows 7/ Windows XP / Linux (ALL THREE INSTALLED!) on it for $115 for each tablet when you buy two.
Yeah right!!!!! LOL.

Please don't get yourself scammed. Nobody is going to be able to offer a new G Tab for less than $300.
The parts cost for a G Tablet is probably about $170 (Galaxy Tab was about $205 in estimated parts cost according to the breakdowns I've seen, you can back into costs for a G Tablet pretty easily), assembled and packaged, figure $180-$190 for a G Tablet. And companies have shipping, overhead, fixed costs, and returns to cover.
I'm guessing that in 1000 unit lots, Sears et. al. paid something like $250 per unit, and they dumped the returns at slightly over cost (maybe even at their cost?) from Sears outlet when they were selling returned units for $279.

You are forgetting that the manufacturing is in China. Different processes and different laws governing this. I used to be a purchasing agent for IBM and bought many millions of dollars worth of parts for manufacturing so I am pretty confident that the Gtab could be had for well under $200US.
However, after a little more research - I now agree with ALL of the naysayers.
This guy is definitely a scammer and is not to be trusted.

the VERY FIRST dock and first lot I ordered took a while. I have it going with a vendor now that it 'seems' I'm getting things about three days after he ships. For the most part when I'm getting a tracking number it's being delivered on time. I've even seen the 'notice' where customs has opened and inspected it.

I had my ZT-180 tablet seized by the local U.S.Customs office. It was seized because it did not have a sticker saying the wireless was FCC approved, and/or the proper documents regarding this. I had to come up with the forms and documents, AND pay a $100 fee.
The only reason I even considered this offer was because the g-tablet is marked as being FCC approved.

I just placed an order for 1 lot with aliexpress. Only way to tell if it is O.K. is to try, have fingers crossed.

Wish you the best of luck Roy. Personally, I was about to order this G-TAB from aliexpress a week ago, but Thanks to God I stumbled upon this website . Have to be cautious from now on.
Secondly, I have seen Simon Hans other products (except the G-tab and Intel atom 10'' Tablet pc .. which are going awfully cheap), to be sold at their normal prices and with a good transaction history. I have also dropped an email to him but no reply yet. That said, Aliexpress is by far the most reliable chinese trade marketplace, better than Dhgate and globalsources.
Perhaps he's selling it off cheap when shackles pulled the G-TAB off their shelves due to early software issue or rejection issues and somehow VS sold their g-tabs to China due to rejection and to cover its break-up cost.
Anyways, I am more concerned that you and hope you get your G-TAB

Since they hold payment in escrow untill I"m in receipt of tablets not to concerned. Just disappointed that it did not work. But thats life, just wait for another good deal around the corner. If this turns out alright and I did not try I would be more disappointed in myself for missing it.

Returning for Galaxy Tab =X

Ok guys, it was a good run... a week run. I don't mind this tablet, I tried TNT 2.2 and ZPAD. I liked them both, TNT a little more.
-This tablet has AMAZING potential, and awesome hardware such as the processor. Software out of the BOX is again like everyone says: HORRIBLE.
Overall build quality is pretty good, not considering the little creeks you get holding the center of the back.
-The official thing that ticked me off to return this tablet was.....wait for it............ LCD Display and viewing angles. Im sorry but it seems like its from the Early 2000's not a display we would see in many electronics Now a days.
-Another deciding factor for me is the touch sensitivity, didn't do it for me. Not as sensitive as I would like.
-Non-illuminated keys, hard to use at night, keys get pressed easily at night.
So after thinking if i should wait for iPAD2, since the rumors are racing; or get Galaxy Tab,
Ive decided to get the Galaxy Tab - I got a brand NEW Galaxy Tab(Sprint) on Ebay for $500 - White backing, Sealed BRAND NEW In BOX. No contract.
I'll be turning the Data OFF and using it as WiFi only, It wont be linked to Sprint, I will NOT activate the 3g.
I got to check the device out, and its extremely portable, its nice. 7 Inch isnt THAT bad at all.
Any comments?
Sorry to see you go. Enjoy your new tablet!
I see these goodbye posts all the time in all the forums I've been a part of. And "sorry" is almost in each post?At the end you just need to be happy with your product. Personally I am not replacing this tablet for anything that's out right now because of the dual core tegra 2 processor. My next tablet is going to be another T2 but definitely a better screen and hopefully a gig of RAM. I don't care if its a 10 or 7 inch tablet because both are practically the same in reference to portability since I can't fit them in my pocket.
Honestly, the only goodbye post that I am looking out for is Roebeets, Rothnic, Bekit, or any other devs. But I figured i'd chime in because I don't think anyone should be sorry for moving on to a different device....unless you were getting a cruz tablet then it would be flame city for you. Jk
I'm sure you'll enjoy ur galaxy tab because its a nice device.
Not gonna disagree with any of your complaints, and if it is not right for you, then get the one you want.
Personally I don't mind the screen, since it is only for me, and I just hold it at the right angle. The non-illuminated buttons are a bit of a silly oversight (and I would much prefer real buttons to those capacitive ones) but I don't mind so much since it has on-screen soft-buttons.
I like it because it is well powered (battery and processor), inexpensive, and has a large display.
Most importantly is that it is easily modifiable. If it wasn't it would have gone right back. It nearly did anyway because I was falsely told by Sears' website that it was a viewpad 10. Since roebeet, rothnic, omiji (? sorry can't remember), and all the others I cannot name have made this device software so good I see awesome potential beyond the great tablet it has already become.
So VS owes XDA and it's senior modders a lot since without them probably all of us would have returned the POS that VS put on the shelves.
In summation Thank You to the XDA team working on the G tab, and if anyone else is thinking about returning this product consider this before you do so, because Samsung, Apple, or any other manufacturer will not give the type of updates and support you can get here from an open device like this, from a place like XDA.
And to the OP, I hope you enjoy your Galaxy better, I have a Captivate and I like it. I am sure if you want a good experience out of the box like what I have in my Captivate, you will be very happy with it.

Shouldn't be too bad, and at the price that Samsung is hawking these for they should support it for a while and better than any other currently shipping Android tablet.
7": yeah, I'm missing that form factor ALOT myself, but I just can't bring myself to give up Tegra2 for something lesser even for a better(IMNHO) form factor(7") nor a better screen(awful gTab viewing angles).
I'm keeping my gTab(actually I'm stuck now anyways past my 14d Staples return) and evaluating 7" complementary(to gTab) tablets, of which(ATM) Nook Color is looking nice w/IPS screen and a8 CPU plus now rooted. Just need to get over to a B&N and try out a demo unit... (want to see how overall system and browser fare speedwise @800MHz on an a8...)
Might just wait out until next year and see if anyone coughs up a 7" Tegra2 or one of the other SoC companies cough up their dual core a9 SoCs and they get in a 7"...
Notion Ink: They sound nice, but since they're a new/small tablet only company I'm waiting to see if they survive to release their 2nd tablet, hopefully Tegra3 based...
OP should avoid the 101 then, since mega gimped device.
Probably best to wait until March. There should be 2.3 or higher Tegra 2 tablets all over the place by then.
Maybe a very stable out of box 2.3 Gtablet by then too..... Maybe at least.

$375 only!
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/09/notion-ink-adam-pre-order-to-begin-today-pricing-starts-at-375/
I have been refreshing the NI site for days ready to buy Adam but when I got up to bat I couldn't pull the trigger.
$375 is with a standard LCD - not PixelQI. PQ is $499 w/ Wifi or $550 w/ 3G
Shipping is $50 - the thing comes straight from factory in India.
However, a few things made me hesitate on the device I have waited a year on.
- you must also pay 'customs' but nothing states what this fee is
- shipping is $50 through DHL which is not insured
- ccavenue is processing orders and they do not take MC
- you are billed in full as soon as you place order while estimated ship date is 6-8
- given no further manufacturing delays and that shipping is quick 6-8 weeks is a long wait
- specs list "8+ GB Flash"...so is that 8GB or what?
- crazy amount of return conditions the least of which is getting RMA 7 no later than 7 days after shipment (probably take longer than that for DHL to get it to you) and a 20% restocking fee for 'open' items (that's $100 + return shipping)
- no mention of 'bad pixel' policy
So while I am in love with this thing and will be so jealous for those brave enough to order site unseen (not even a hands on or real photo on website) I am just not that brave.
Now the question is....do I open my gTablet and play with it until round 2 or do I look at something maybe a little bit pricier but with a better display?

For those that are wanting but not ordered an Adam - the Pixel QI versions are already sold out. All they have left now is the LCD version.
Since I couldn't pull the trigger on the Adam I guess the only thing standing between me unboxing my g tablet is questions of the viewing angles. Since my wife picked this up from the store I have not seen it in person. Is it really a deal breaker? What is Office Depot return policy on open products - I know during the holidays returns are extended until Jan 8 but not sure if that mean sealed in the box or not? I imagine I could just go and return it Dec 26 if it is that bad....stores are usually so crazy that day they ask few questions about returns.
Oh, and about Notion Ink. They updated their blog explaining some of the conditions (such as $50 shipping) and it is a little more comforting. I never doubted they were a good, honest company. I think my issue is that they are biting off more than they can chew.
Building a fantastic product in a lab is one thing - seeing a new product introduction through the entire manufacturing process is something completely different and that is where I am not sure of NI's experience. While the prospect of waiting sux, I think I am more comfortable doing so than jumping in on the first run.
It is not a question of NI taking care of me if there is an issues, it is a question of when. I am still jealous of all those who did place the order and will kick myself the day everyone starts posting their unboxing videos :-(

Office Depot will give you a return gift ticket for Jan 8th (they did for me). Since Flash and the acceleromter have issues out of box, Office Depot should allow return and no restock or forced store credit (they do this for opened electronics). The store manager wrote on my receipt "Full return allowed", since he was aware of the issues.

For personal viewing/usage I don't really find it to be that noticeable except when I rotate the tablet specifically to look at this and was simultaneously checking for backlight bleed(had bad bleed on GT & WPDN).
Sorry, but there's a problem with a company that immediately charges for an order when they KNOW it will not be shipping for a while. They're SUPPOSED to NOT charge UNTIL the item is shipped or about to be shipped. So this tells me that they're tight on money ATM...

Notion Ink Adam - my 2 cents

If you are considering a pre-order, I would read this first: http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/1...e-return-policy-are-arousing-suspicion-anger/
I am a web systems admin, and deal with security from an Operations standpoint. With that in mind, I have been watching this over and I am VERY wary of this company. Imo, I would avoid the pre-order and wait until release.
A few things are red flags to me:
- They mentioned that the FCC request is well hidden. Why would they do that? Why the mystery?
- There are ZERO videos of this thing, other than the original prototype from months ago.
- The pics we've seen seem to be photoshopped. Granted, other companies do this but where are the real pics?
- Why hasn't a newer prototype been given to Engadget yet, for review? Again, what are they hiding?
- I have heard that, with the initial pre-order screen, there was no SSL and your SSN was required. Why in the WORLD would they need my SSN?
- $50 shipping. Huh????
- This is not Apple or MS, this is a start-up company. There's no history here.
- I heard that your credit card is being charged, with the pre-order. That is a major red flag. A legit company would put a hold on your CC, but not actually charge you until it is shipped. A recent example of this is what happened with the Archos 101 pre-orders from J&R and Tigerdirect.
I'm not going to go as far as to say that this is a scam, but it sounds very suspicious to me. Again, my 2 cents on the matter. It's a shame because I was considering this device, myself.
I agree completely! I too was considering this device as a preorder option... but I think I can wait now.... I kinda feel like they are just trying to raise the money necessary to START full production.... which is a big NO NO in my book!

Well said Roe. I think everyone was considering pre-ordering this thing, but I was expecting a couple videos and plenty of pictures. We got none of that. Therefore, no dice. The mickey mouse ordering system w/ tons of problems being reported and so many questions left unanswered made it easy for me to decide not to preorder one. Anyone who preorders one of these is naive and dumb if you ask me.

This is the BIGGEST warning to me, and I pointed it out in another thread as soon as I saw that. To me, this means that they have no money left, and need the pre-order payments right now to fund manufacturing and the company...

I'm reading up on their replies, right now - a lot of it sounds like bull, to me. Yes, it's also possible that this is growing pains for a start-up, but the bottom line is that I just don't trust this enough to give them my money, yet.
- The shipping rates. They could have raised the price $25, and then dropped the shipping to $25. My feeling on this is that shipping is not refundable - that means that if you return the item they keep the shipping and make some money off you. This is same thing that eBay sellers do, and it's not a good way for me to trust them. The device is only a few pounds, it's not a heavy device and $50 is excessive.
- No Mastercard payments. They had more than 6 months to fix this, it's Internet commerce 101, as well as SSL. Not having these scares the carp out of me, as a consumer. I have no faith that my credit card info is safe with them, and that is not a good thing.
- No pics of the device. That takes about 10 minutes to fix. Take pics, upload to blog, done. Same with a video -- why the delay? Again, very suspicious here.
The "mystery" factor works for a company like Apple, as they are an established company who has a history. This company is a start-up - as far as we know, this device doesn't exist and the CEO is about to take all your money and disappear.
Here's NI's reply:
http://notionink.wordpress.com/2010/12/10/introspection/
I'm with you. I was on board to pick one up, in addition to my Gtab. I had my CC out and even stayed up waiting for that first 3am preorder. Then details started leaking out and I came to my senses. You are assuming a company will come through because we're used to dealing with large corporations. These assumptions are wrong in this case since this is an uproven company, with unproven people, in another country (legality), with a product that they refuse to show.
My guess is that this is a company run by young enthusiastic engineers getting railroaded hard by the people financing them. However, I'm not going to put my money out their first. The last straw was their sneaky method of jacking the price of the top version, the one I wanted, by 20%. First they increased the base price $50 and then changed free shipping to $50, ending up with a $500 to $600 price.
I hear you Roebeet. I was one of the so called family and got the link and it was a disaster from the onset. Thank God I couldn't get to the purchase page because the server kept crashing and the 12pm PST thing.
What saved me from ordering the adam is that I had to go to work. I was already running late. When I got off work it said they were sold out. WTF! How can something that is not in production be sold out?? If it does exist, I'll wait until it is in a real store.
I am now confident it is still vaporware. I feel for those that bought it without actually seeing a demo video or real pictures. I just hope they didn't get scammed.
Yeah, liliputing echoed my thoughts. I really don't think NotionInk is being deceitful. For those that follow the blog you know they genuinely care about making a great device and I have little doubt Adam exist.
In my mind there is no question the device will be great. The real problem isn't about developing a great device, its about introducing, manufacturing, distributing and supporting your first ever product. That in itself is a huge undertaking if you just planned to sell to one region let alone the world.
I wish them the best of luck and hope this thing does take off. I kind of just wish for their sake they would have started off a little less ambitious.
[My guess is some models 'sold out' because pre-sales numbers where tied to their initial parts inventory and the number of tablets they can produce in a month. That imo is a good thing.]
Too much money to commit for a product with nothing but vapor to show so far. The company appears to be very naive or this is a sham. Hope for the former, none the less.
I am happy with the G and the way I use the device, the viewing angles are fine and the device has 8gb more space and not sourced from India with a VERY dubious January ship date. Gtablet is $150 more for the good display
Some stuff going on does not add up, so if naive or something else, neither is good.
This launch could make the Gtablet seem iPad-like, in comparison
I was about to order mine last night but I couldn't pull the trigger. Too many red flags. The $50 shipping and asking for SSN was what finally made me come to my senses. If this tablet is really awesome why they didn't send demos to any tech blogs ?
For now I'm very happy with my G-Tablet. Thank you roebeet for your hard work.
You know, I kind of think that they might actually have a product and they might have had enough mfged already for the pre-order guys, but ran out of money doing those and hence need to charge new orders immediately.
I thought that they had pictures of an actual unit, that red one in one of the Nov/maybe early Dec blog posts? Still kind of disconcerting that they have no videos and no more better pix of the thing...
Well, since I decided to skip this one anyways since I kept the gTab, I can afford to wait and see what happens, hope that they ship something close to what they claim, and then see if they survive to do a Tegra 3 tablet, which IF they do better in pricing and get me a 7" form factor, I MIGHT spring for...
Maybe just wishful thinking but I guess we'll see when they start shipping, after all remember open pandora? I think they finally started shipping more than prototype versions earlier this year, when they were SUPPOSED to have started shipping over 2y ago! OP is kind of a joke now at the price it's listed at, and what it is...
Took my WPDN back to BBB today. They didn't even open the box, just printed out a form for me to sign and handed over the cash and a receipt showing my return.
After that I wandered over the B&N almost next store and took a look at the Nook Color... was SORELY tempted to just buy one, but decided to wait and see a bit. Nice 7" form factor, nice screen, light(!), and fairly speedy for only being a8 @ 800MHz and 2.1! Woman at the counter claims that they're planning OS upgrades and flash support when I asked her about it. Browser still had problems with the many more button on /. then again so did the WPDN & GT. On the gTab it loads them almost as quickly as my nb... still thinking about NC...
As much as I'd like to think they are just being naive and made some mistakes in the SSL / Mastercard / SSN area, I don't believe that's the case. And for one reason only - no photos and no videos of the product since earlier this year. That is very suspicious.
This is not rocket science - all they need to do is upload a few real photos and a quick video of the device in someone's hands, to allay fears. It's been 24 hours now and that has not happened (yet). If they stop being so darn mysterious and show us that there's really a product out there, then I won't be so cautious.
But, I still wouldn't pre-order it if they charge me before shipping. This is like meeting a stranger on the street, giving them $450 on the honor system that they will come back in 2 months to your house to give you your product. At least we have Visa protection but you might still have a deductible.
Not disagreeing with anyone here, but the whole SSN thing was the credit card companies verifying your identity. That has nothing to do with notion ink, i order internationally all the time and whenever you do so the banks require verification a lot of the time. Also, it doesn't ask for your entire SSN, just the last 4 digits.
I ordered one, nervously. We'll see what happens.

If it was the last four digits, that's not the same thing - agreed. I heard it was the whole thing, but I didn't see this myself.
I actually hope that I'm wrong and that these devices are shipped in January and are just as good as we all hope they are. But them charging you before shipment bugs me - I heard that was true, correct?

This is looking fishery than ever, sadly...

This is what made me most nervous, it's true. I was kinda hoping it wouldn't charge immediately. Dec 18th will hopefully alleviate some concern.
Well, maybe when it eventually comes out, if the firmware is as awesome as Notion Ink says it is, it can be ported over to other devices? I'm sure it would make a pretty awesome Android tablet with their supposed custom interface and apps.
I've been waiting on the Adam for the past year because of its Qi-Pixel display, but the lack of videos/photos and important information kept me from pulling the trigger. For some reason they refuse to release specifics such as whether the damn thing will support the Android market. That's B.S. If you want people to give you $550+ for something, you need to tell them what they're getting in return.
The reason they're not showing pictures on their site probably has to do with US law which would hold them accountable if they shipped a device that didn't match the photo. That may be the same reason why they're not discussing some of the specs. Who the hell knows.
I'm going back to Sears tomorrow to see if I can get the price difference between the $379 I paid and the $349 sale. Hell, if Sears is cool to me I'll probably just pick up a 2nd G-Tab and forget about Notion Ink.
http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=LPowc1yM0NQ
I would've preordered it if I hadn't bought the G tab which I didn't return due to the awesome 'trio' we have here, working all day & night to make this tab better and better.
I think those Notion Ink guys are facing some problems due to their inexperience and lack of support.

[sold] Selling my Viewsonic G tablet w/bag, $270

bought new last Christmas from Sears. I installed Vegan-tab immediately and liked it very much. but after the vacation i found it became less useful to me-- my daily life is either sitting at office or at home (or driving, of coz) and i have two desktops and two note books to use. It just sit there for nearly a month now. So I am considering selling it for some cash.
It'll come with original case and accessories, and a AmazonBasics bag I bought for it (AmazonBasics Netbook Bag with Handle, Fits 7- to 10-Inch Netbooks, iPad (Black) ). I'd sell it for $270 and you pay the shipping you choose. I'm in north DFW area and local pickup is also welcome. you can save the shipping cost.
I also sent out the rebate form for its dock and they cashed out my $10.5 check for "shipping and handling", but I do not know when they will ship it... If you buy my gtablet, I promise I will ship the dock to you for free (you still need to pay the shipping though) as soon as I receive it.
silly me. just noticed the subject and didn't notice the forum. had my hopes up for a good deal on a galaxy tablet/something w/ 3g data capabilities.
I see.. let me change the title to indicate it's a Viewsonic G tablet, not a Galaxy tab
Very interested...
Can you post up some pics and do you take Pay-Pal as form of payment?
i am interested, how much to sell to sydney, australia.
and could you post some piccies?

I'm seeing a few of these - is everyone jumping ship?
I'm keeping mine, no worries. If the GTAB forum eventually dissapears, the device will go to my wife. The old trickle down effect....

I think its more a case of everyone trying to get the most money for the Tab while its still hot. With all the new Tabs coming out soon they fear prices dropping and want max value. Thats my take anyway, I could be wrong.
Mine is going to my wife as well. I take it to work everyday and when I get home she runs to me to pry it out of my hands. I think she'd kill me if I ever sold it. And just to think, before I owned a Gtab she "didnt like touch screen devices". Go figure..........................
Yep, makes sense. It's actually why I sold my dev unit as I figured my original GTAB would eventually become the dev unit (which is exactly what happened).

Robeet,
Not everyone is jumping ship; I still have 2 of these and will keep them as long as possible. Based on the tablets I have seen that is scheduled to release I still think we have the best of the lot. It is not our fault that VS was damn short sighted in their approach to this tablet.
It annoys me greatly that they did not push the channel hard enough on this device and have the leadership needed to make this a true force in the Market. It further annoys me that they did not have accessories available nor did they have 3rd party accessory suppliers in the ready. This was poor market strategy at work; guess they missed that whole business 101 course while in college.
No... all of us are NOT jumping ship; this tablet honestly has the capabilities I was initially looking for in a Tablet. Once we have 3.0 on this thing personally I will be set no matter what other wiz-bang device comes out later!!!!
Just my 2 cents worth
I wouldn't say "I'm jumping ship". The hardware inside G-tablet is mostly in line with the mainstream of tablets this year, and now you know their prices... I think g-tablet still has very high performance/price ratio.
I'm selling it just because I found that a tablet is actually not so useful to me...when I got this tablet I was very excited, flashing custom Roms, trying all kinds of apps, etc. However after the vacation, I could not find much use of it... browsing web, watching video? I'd rather use my desktop with a 24" LCD and dedicated mouse/keyboard. Playing game? The casual games on tablet are not comparable with "real" games on my game PC and consoles IMHO. Reading novels? My kindle 3 is more comfortable with its E-ink display... I guess the real problem is I stay at home or office almost all the time. Tablet is more useful to an outdoor man.
Just my 2 cents
I'd still like to buy this.....
Have you sold it yet?
I'm still very interested. Let me know what you want to do to take care of the transaction...

I'm actually looking to buy 2 more for friends
My boss even introduced my GTab to our clients as " Superfast TnT-Lite OS" tablet!
It is understandable that there are many more tegra 2 tablets coming with better specs + screen. Most of them starting around $400.
Xoom wifi is only $539 at Sam Club (according to engagdet)
I guess that if we can find a screen replacement + honeycream soon, people would stick around for longer..

Thoughts on G tablet Woot deal

Someone posted that over 10,000 were sold yesterday. I always wondered about that site and how they could make any money, but figure this, if they made $10 a piece on each that is one incredible day for even many of the larger retailers.
I thought this was going to be great for the G tablet community with which it would make Viewsonic take notice and develop more for this product.
But what if many who bought were resellers jumping on a bargain (my bet). Still eventually if they sold it would still be good.
I always thought the Apple fanatics were really out there standing in lines to buy the latest until it was explained that many were buying to resell and sell higher than retail. Still dopes to pay but does explain more.
The thing is there's little to be made for any who plan to resell. These retail for $350 to $370 and after ebay, paypal, and shipping fees we're only looking at maybe a $20 to $30 profit. Plus with woot limiting the amount you can buy I really think most of the G-Tablets sold yesterday were to people genuinely interested in the product. Well, at least I was one.

I know that our customer support group purchased quite a few of these yesterday .
I had been prodding them toward getting these as our mobile platform for a while, was super happy they came up on woot
I agree that most who got woot deals yesterday were buying for home use and not re-sell. People have been seeing the Gtab, and even through all the exxcitment of the xoom, interest in it was picking up. This just goes to show people are smarter with their money than given credit for and it gives a clear message that we are not willing to pay 6 to 8 hundred dollars for hype and a carrier contract.
I bought mine for personal use. I've been on the fence and could not pass up this deal.
I honestly had my heart set on the iPad 2 pre release, but then once I saw it didn't have retina and the price was still relatively expensive (for a 32gb 3G), I figured I might as well save my money. Once the woot deal came on, I did some research and stumbled across this community, and how couldn't I buy the product for just $280? I just signed up to this forum this week and I'm already addicted reading up on how everyone is modding their gTab. Thanks in advance to all the mods who will make my experience a pleasant one..
Bought mine for personal use as well. Been on the fence for a while over a tablet saw the woot, liked the price and after some research here and elsewhere decided with some fairly simple tweaks this would fit all my needs in a tablet.
Bought mine for personal use and work. Part of my job is providing support for my company's mobile apps, and it is much more convenient to have my own than dig up where the company hardware is hiding. I also have a toddler and we are going on a 4 hr plane trip next month, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity for an electronic babysitter for the trip at this price. (There may be toddler/mom deathmatches over who gets to use it as both of us are geeks)
Bought mine for personal use yesterday too.
I can't wait
Hi purchased the nook color when it was 200 bucks for ebay. and i love it.
It is used at my restaurant as digital photo album / menu
the face that you can grab it with one hand and do demonstrations with it is awesome.
But it is lacking in some ways.
Purchased the gtab for personal use, front facing camera etc. I dont know how usable it will be, but I am hoping the dual core processor helps things out more.
honestly loading webpages on the NC with dolphin or skyfire was ok. but not great, and it definitely could not unseat my netbook that i also carry around with me wherever i go.
I think 285 bucks delivered for a dual core tablet with these specs and the best user group community on the planet (XDA) which has always helped me with my droid1, fascinate (for a friend) nook color, and now gtab... is a super steal. to borrow the words of another forum post: Lucky mofos.

So was I! This is going to be my first foray into tablet computing. At such a low price with real hardware, this going to let me get my feet wet, and if I hate it, i'm sure i can sell it at just a slight loss. Hoping I love it though!
Was in for one as well, though I'd just grabbed a Nook Color (just before that eBay deal); was impressed with how much more usable the larger screen was, and how much it felt like I was trying to work with a postage stamp when I swapped back to my G2.
Then this came up, and couldn't resist long enough for them to sell out.
Actually ended up sucking a few friends in as well..
I had no idea the makers of my TV made a tablet. I jumped on this when I read the specs. Hopefully Woot doesn't take more than a month for this thing to ship out.
to good a deal to pass up....needed a new toy to play with
I just picked up the NC a few days ago. I never even heard of the gtab until it popped up on woot. I've returned my NC.. the hardware on the gtab for the price can't be beat.
Just watch ebay. Yesterday there was one gTab listed with 7 days left current price of like $180. I think there will be lost on there and the price will end up falling on ebay and people wont be able to sell them for much (if any) more then they bought them for.
I plan on keeping mine. Bought it for personal use. Wanted a galaxy tab, but didn't want a contract or to spend 400-500.
I can survive a $280 fight with my wife, not a $500 one.
Good deal, bought for personal use also.

One closed yesterday around $315 after paypal and ebay fees you'd lose a bit of money on the deal. Personally I bought one for me, just wnated to see ebay pricing in case I didn't like it.
Given that only about 3% of purchasers purchased 3 at once I doubt that very many were purchased for resale.
same with me, you took the words right out of my mouth

HP Touchpad frenzy doesn't make sense

It seems like everyone is so obsessed with finding these touchpads and I really don't understand why. Yes for $100 or even $150 or $200 they're definitely worth it. But even just looking around this forum and some other sites, it seems like people are becoming so obsessed with getting a touchpad that they're spending a lot of money on them and are failing to realize that its not that good of a product and that its OS is basically abandoned. For a good price I would get one, but would it really be worth more that $250?
Agreed.
I don't think its worth more than the current 99/149 prices.
After using one for about a week, I can say it's definitely not worth more than about $250 in its current state (if not less). It'll be worth the same amount as other lower-priced tablets when Android makes its way onto it. Either that, or when the Android emulator becomes functional.
WebOS is actually a really fantastic OS, there's just no apps for it.

There is a marketing lesson to be learnt here somewhere. Unfortuantley HP don't seem to be taking advantage of the hype they have generated.
I would also buy one for the cheaper price (I went to Harvey norman on the sale day but missed out) but agree the prices people are paying for them now are rediculous. ($350-$400 lol) Unless more magically appear at or around the firesale price I will be saving for the next gen tablets.
Im hooked on watching people freak out over these tablets. Its so funny, I bought one for my sister and she loves it. All she does is Facebook and internet so it was a deal for her.
Impossible to find any around here selling on craigslist for $200 or less.
I'm going tomorrow morning to get one for $99. I can totally understand why people are freaking out. It's 9", 1.2 ghz dual-core processor, and Android is coming very very soon via rootzwiki. I have the Galaxy Tab 7" and it's just a hummingbird single core 1.0 ghz, and I got it a few months ago on sale for $200, so hell yeah I'm going tomorrow early and lining up an hour before doors open.
I was only going to get one to flash it with Honeycomb.. but can not find one anywhere. If you aren't going to be doing that, then I don't see the justification for buying an unsupported product with no apps.
A lot of people got them because they knew Android would be ported to it sooner or later, making it a pretty decent device.
I tried to get one, but failed.
Other "non-nerd" general consumers got them because it is a cheap tablet that is fairly versatile, and for what you get, the price was amazing.
All these idiots think they are going to sell them all for $250-300..... no one wanted this crap before the $99 sale.
I hope all the hoarders get stuck with them all,

I think the market value of one of these is probably around 200 dollars. Actually, while Im not a fan of WebOS I think HPs situation is their own doing. There is a demand from a top manufacturer for a cheap tablet. What they SHOULD have done was contracted with one of these Taiwanese companies that make the 150-200 dollar tablets and made a smaller cheaper version of their tablet. Sell it close to cost for 150 dollars or so,running Web-OS,and sell their flagship tablet for around 400 dollars, pretty much what it takes to make it. I bet the cheaper ones would have flown off the shelves, creating a demand for WebOS apps, which would have driven demand for the bigger tablet. Instead, they tried to go head to head right at the start with the iPad,and priced their product similarly.
Think of it this way. Hyundai wants into the luxury car market. Should they make a car with similar features as a BMW, sell it for the same price and expect people to flock to it in droves? Of course not. That would be really stupid, especially considering that even if they do it right and make it comparable to the BMW,its going to have flaws because they have never done that before. Instead, what they did was make a comparable luxury car,two actually, the Genesis and the Equus. they are priced at 40K and 60K respectively. Thats around 10 grand at the low end and 20 at the high end lower than comparably equipped cars. They have to compete on price because they cant compete on the other aspects of their product. Some years down the road,if they can get and keep quality up to par, they may end up in the same situation as Honda and Toyota who used to be seen as cheap imported junk, but now are seen as high quality desirable vehicles. However,if they tried to simply change overnight and step in and compete with BMW ,or Toyota (Lexus) or Honda (Acura) they would fail as miserably as HP did.(they may still fail of course)
You have to have a plan on how to make inroads into someone elses markets and build a reputation or no one is going to buy your product, whether you are selling tablets that compete with the iPad or cars that compete with BMW. Samsungs strategy is that they are HUGE. Android tablets seem to be taking off slowly, and they can stay in the game and do things like use their other products to build market share. (For instance,if you buy a samsung TV and a samsung tablet, you can get a nice discount.)
I gave up, eventually the crazy will go down and those tablet will sell on ebay for the right price. For 300 dollars I'll look for a honeycomb android tablet at that point (I think I saw the asus transformer at that price or a bit more)

My argument isn't that the touchpad isn't a good device for $100. If I could get one for $100 or even $150 that would be great. But my comment is that some people miss out on the sales, and for some reason continue to pursue getting one, even if it means paying $250+ to get one from someone else who bought them for cheap. People are getting caught up in having to get a touchpad that they end up wasting lots of money on a subpar device.
Are you kidding
Everyone went and got these because they know stock android will be hacked onto it in no time.
When the rush dies, in a couple of months I am sure someone will be able to pick up one on ebay close to firesale price.
WebOS is a nice OS but it's DOA now. IF android Honeycomb or ICS gets ported then it's a good buy. If it's stuck to 2.* version, then no. Phone software on a 10" tablet is plain stupid.
Web os is not dead HP said that it would continue to develop the platform but was giving up on making the hardware. people who pay more than $250 for this out dated device are retarted just buy a nook color and root it you will have the same features and it has great development behind it

HP also said that it would be "double down" on WebOS products when bought Palm. HP also said that it would only release perfect products (TouchPad launched with bugs beyond belief).
I really have a hard time believing what they say...
I will agree the whole HP Touchpad deal is getting kind of ridiculous. I admit, I was checking everywhere for one... But I wasn't about to spend double the price of the markdowns. I am actually on mine now, but I paid $149 for it at best buy two days ago. I didn't buy mine to make money, but to put it to use. Now I'm waiting on the clever devs to port Android over. And, I agree give it a month or two, and we'll see the prices back down to where they should be.

There's that, then there's also that HP didn't even say what NORCALkID claims they did. They said, and I quote:
HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward.

Which is just buzzword bingo BS that says... nothing whatsoever.
