I have had the inspire the day it came out and i would loose data and the reception was very bad so i went and got the atrix and had that for 2 weeks now.But now that the bootloader can not be cracked i was thinking of returning to the inspire, but the loosing data and the bad reception is holding me back.Has anyone else had any problems with data and reception,or do you think that the phone i had was defective? Not sure what to do
Signal is hit or miss for me I blame att but it's not bad enough for me to complain, been with them for 3 years. I'd say come back it's such a great phone minus the battery.

Yeah, if the signal is bad no phone is going to fix that.
That being said my Inspire has given me the best reception to date under AT&TS network.
Sent from my most memorable Inspire 4G
you should make a decision.
Its possible that you had a defective phone, bad signal, or both. As a new Inspire owner, I would say do what alot former atrix owners already did...go back to the inspire. Atrix is one of those phones that looks good on paper. Sure it beats the inspire as far as specs go, but in the end, its the overall experience that tends to sway final decisions.
No issues with the signal here. Battery is not bad for me, lasting 15-16 hrs with medium usage. I just ordered a 1300mAH battery hopefully it will last bit longer
Signal seems to be pretty good to me so far.
Here is a little rundown of cellphone data and celluar signals ive noticed so far on AT&T
iphone 3gs: excellent signal
Captivate: crap for signal
Atrix: had very good signal (owned very briefly before returning for Inspire)
Inspire: very good - excellent

I'm sitting at 85% life and it has been 11 hours since I unplugged. Granted I didn't do a whole heck of alot through the day, but that is damn good for being OCed at 1.229Ghz and on wifi all day.
Ok thanks guys i just got back from returning the atrix.this time my new inspire has better reception.now time to flash a rom.
battery use depends on use obviously, this became very clear to me as I purchased the Inspire off contract, used it for a couple of weeks, btw does anyone know if this phone supports auto answer, as in ring so many times then answer without tapping answer while on headset? If it does I cant find it. went back to my captivate with cog4.1 because auto handsfree answer is essential for me at work. anyway,I would get about a days use, which is good. But my wife is on day 3 and at 50%
completely stock
Inspire reception is good.
AT&T's poor cell tower placement stratagy favors major freeeways and streets, not home areas.
I got one of their MicroCell units and it fixed the problem, and works perfectly with the Inspire.

as a former captivate owner I totally agree! Inspire off charger since 830 last night.hour and a half drive to work my shift at 11 as night supervisor. phone calls, sms, a few emails, some web browsing, epocrates, and streaming some pandora while I audited a chart. 30 minutes from home and my battery now just now yellow. my captivate would be on the charger long before now lol.

My experience...
Reception has been crappy at my house with every phone I've had.
I first thought it was the phone, hoping the next new one would magically make it better.
While each phone has improved the situation, I came to realize it ain't the phone... It's my house/ATT.
I can go down to the store/mall, and get a solid five bars, whereas at my house, multi-stories/ built in 70's, literally two blocks away, drops to 1 or 2 bars, even with this Inspire, yet I rarely miss/drop calls.
Oh yeah, as to your question... yes, you should come back to the inspire. ;-)

Keeping that in mind, has anyone tested the GPS on the Inspire yet?

I returned my captivate, I will be getting the inspire. HTC has never had problems with their GPS like Samsung has. I don't think you have any worries honestly. I will know in a few days..
Gpd should be fine. My only concern is the radio and camera. Htc cameras are usually some of the worse.
I can tell u the camera is super sharp with touch focus, looks great on huge slcd screen too..I heard people saying vids look yellowish whilest using led lights..but I tested it store today so no chance to use led

I just tested my GPS and lock was very fast.
Nice this is something that I use everyday and my captivate has never ever worked correctly, actually I think it navigated all the way home the day I bought it and never worked again lol. F&CK SAMSUNG!! I will never buy another samsung product ever.

GPS works fine. Phone is very. very cool. I went to Costco after seeing posts here today. Took them 10 min to activate with data. Phone also has a cool blue tooth transfer feature to move your contacts over.
How are all of you Captivate owners trading in your phones? If there is a specific complaint that will get the job done, let me know.
I just picked the Inspire for my wife and I am jealous. The phone is stupid fast. Has the HTC build quality that I love and the screen is sweet.

I can only speak for myself, but I will be going to the att store and.politely demanding an exception upgrade due to the general known issues with the captivate. If that works, great. If not, I will be either paying my minimal etf and going to T-Mobile, or sucking it up and paying the no contract price. I haven't decided between those two yet.
Sent from my Oops it just shutdown again.
I got to use it again today so I tried gps indoors. It connected quickly using Google maps and locked onto several satellites in gps test. Every Samsung unit I've ever had since they started having internal gps has had awful performance. My Captivate has always been terrible and I've had 3 of them. HTC phones tend to connect well and the Inspire is no exception.
This phone is just what I've been waiting for on AT&T along with the Atrix, but I have a feeling the Moto isn't going to be all it's cracked up to be.
I can also confirm that the Inspire's GPS works perfectly. I'm also coming from a Captivate, and it's so relieving to finally have a working GPS. I actually bought a bluetooth GPS receiver because I was so fed up with the GPS on the Captivate. I no longer have any use for the receiver.

Lol... I had one sitting around from my HTC 8525 days. Did the same as you and used with the Craptivate. Good riddance.
I didnt trade in my captivate, but i did sell it and have never looked back. Back in july i totally bought into the hype of the galaxy s specs and had nothing but problems with my captivate. Stock the phone is garbage, was only worth using after custom froyo rom, custom overclock kernel, lagfix and changing the laggy file system. The inspire is an awesome device even stock without any mods its fast & responsive. And also having working gps is a bonus, coming from captivate im not used to it locking on so fast.

how does accuracy up to 3 meters sound inside of my house. With samsung I never got anything better then 15 meters outside the house. Inside no signal ever.
How is the actual driving gps?
Previously had a craptivate and had horrible gps where I would stop and gps signal icon would still be going forward like I was driving into incoming traffic. How is the inspire in driving conditions? does it actually stop when your car stops? lol
Also, the compass works correctly as well.

Just curious how you alls signal quality has been on this phone. The radio in the Inspire has left much to be desired. No matter what radio is flashed, the signal strength is poor. So far nothing has compared to my Dell Streak.
I have only had it for a few days and I came from an Inspire. I would say it is better with signal and much better with sound (both volume and clarity). I live in a crappy reception area, so it is hard to really tell, but the Infuse seems to hold on to a signal better.
The signal quality is almost on par with the streak.

not as good as my captivate :/ but good call quality
I have both the inspire and infuse. I'm trying out the infuse for 30 days.
I am averaging -89db on the infuse while the inspire sits around -98db. With that said, the infuse has much better signal strength.
Call quality wise - I've also flashed multiple radios over to the inspire and i always end up with some complaint. ie. static, echo, humming etc...
Hands down, the better call quality goes to the infuse.
FYI - I work as a sales manager and average 40-60 calls a day, emails, txt etc... I took the phone off the charger at 7am and I am currently sitting at 65% at 5 P.M., brightness set to auto, emails set to push, everything else turned off.
Hope this helps.
I notice if I am in a wifi zone but have a weak signal, the infuse will not switch to the cellular network immediatley... it will continue to try and get a wifi signal without switching to cellular.. webpages time out, etc.
Anyone else seeing this?
I have to take my phone back. The call quality is ****ty. I'm pretty upset and I don't think I have experienced full service once yet.
I had the inspire for two weeks. I gave up on it and got the Infuse. The signal for me is better and the sound is better. I am much happier with the Infuse.
Seems about the same for me. I live in an area with great 3G (well so called 4G now) coverage though. My data speeds are 4 times faster down with the Infuse however, go figure.

Hi guys. After suffering with extremely poor Sensation connection for 3 months, i finally got fed up with it and decided to try swapping wifi and network antennas (just using some very thin wires). To my surprise, signal is a bit stronger. Now at home, i constantly have 1-3 bars of UMTS/H when previously it would never get out of gprs/edge. Now this is a surprise. I have not connected wifi antenna yet, so no reports on that. I'll keep monitoring signal strength and if this really works will connect everything properly and will post a tutorial.
It would help if someone else could try that.
Interesting. Please keep posting.

i'm curious, you soldered them ? it looks like you taped them down.
can you take a close up on where you placed those two wires ?
quite interesting, but i never had problems with a signal before
Try these :
Dial *#*#4636#*#* , choose Phone information
choose WCDMA Preferred or GSM/CDMA Auto(PRL) [Try both and choose the one with the best signal]
i did that and got an Epic signal .
also toggle cyphering it might help a bit with signal.

No good tbh, done some testing for a few days and not really worth it IMO.
I have been having loads of signal issues with my sensation and have tried searching these forums for an answer, tried different radios and matching ril's but never had anywhere near the signal i had on my desire.
I have found this today and wondered if anyone has seen it or tried it before. I think its probabilly just a gimmick thats why im asking before i buy one.
So... has anyone tried it?

HTC Sensation GSM signal lost
Hi all,
I had some signal experience with HTC Sensation 4G which might be helpful to someone. I was having a bad signal reception and when talking to someone on the phone, voice was loosing, and I barely could understand from the other side.
This happened since I put [ROM] Android Revolution HD on my HTC Sensarion 4G. Then I suspect on this but I wanted to try ICS and download the official ROM for HTC Sensation, and the same problem. I was choosing European Roms. Then I downloaded the official ROM for T-Mobile which apply s to HTC Sensation 4G and measuring the signal through
Settings-> About -> Network was kind of the same, but the signal wasn't drooping and when I was talking to someone on the phone it was good, no voice interruption.
Since I put the original stock rom, phone is working quite good, no sudden restart and no signal issues.
Best regards.
Hi any help please im on vodaphone uk not sure why but in the last 4 hours my reception has totally gone anybody think of anything please let me know willing to try your ideas thanks
Try switching gsm mode and wcdma mode, monitor the reception bars.

most likely vodaphone UK cells are down. you might wanna call them up and check
Hiya,
Many might not like this reply.. but I think it's helpful..
I had a sensation on Vodafone and had no end of Signal issues - I changed 4 handsets and still had issues!! I would have signal one minute and then lose it the next..
After, I gave the SGS 2 a try and have found that the signal is much stronger! It has barely lost signal and to top it off, in an area with apparently only GPRS strength, I'm getting H and 3G!!
Also, another note, I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that the GPS signal is weak in the Sensation and was a little disappointed that it kept losing the satellites - SGS 2 seems to find a lock in less than 5 seconds and holds on for dear life!! The only down side is that it drains the battery a lot more than the sensation..
I'm not trolling, I'm just giving my experience - I was in the same boat on Vodafone and found that the sensation just didn't really work as well as the SGS 2 - A shame, because the Sensation is a gorgeous looking piece of kit!!

Exactly the same situation for me as for Charmz2k2.
I also had a Sensation on Vodafone UK and had no end of signal issues. After 2 months of discussion they offered to swap the phone for a SGS2 and now I have no problems, using the same SIM and in the same places where I previously had issues with the Sensation.
Pity, as the Sensation is an awesome piece of hardware otherwise.

No, I don't think it does. I've tried holding it all ways and even not holding it. Ive tried it in a holder, face down but still no difference that I can see
I'm glad a few others agreed with me!!
I travel the country (UK) for my job and cover about 2000 miles a month, so that's a lot of driving!!
I found that the signal would constantly be dropping while on the motorway using the sensation.
the SGS 2 has dropped a few times, but in comparison to the Sensation, it's barely anything.
I do think it's something to do with that back cover / antenna... maybe even a poor connection or something as small as that?

2 months ago I would have said stick with the Sensation, after jumping ship, the only thing I miss is HTC Sense as it is MUCH better than TW, but chuck on Launcher Pro or something and it's manageable - the main point is I now have a phone which will 9.9 times out of 10 have signal when I need it
At the end of the day, they're pretty similar spec-wise, it's your choice as to what you want - and in all fairness, out of ALL the people who bought the sensation, we might be a minority who have the signal issues..
All I would say is that Vodafone DO look after their customers (after a bit of frustration with a few of their employees) as they swapped my phone even 3 and half months after I signed up!!
Is anyone else using their infuse with an ATT Microcell? If so what kind of issues are you having if any. I cannot run any modem besides the two stock Froyo modems.... Any other modems cause several issues. One issue is that sms and mms messages fail at a rate of around 65% . They simply dont send...With or Without WIFI on ..Same result. Another issue is that the sound quality is deminished to an unusable level.
I have seen several other posts about the MIcrocell but none of them have produced a good result. I would love to someday be able to run a custom ROM...But if the trade is the aformentioned issues, it isnt worth it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I use a Microcell and I do not have any problems. I use Google Voice for texting so I have no experience with messaging through the carrier.

So ... I thought I would be an informed man if I went over to the Galaxy Note forum and post my Microcell question. I asked if anyone was having the issues that my fellow Infuse owners are experiencing with their Microcell and the G-Note.
After not getting a response and over 50 people had looked at the thread ... someone finally responded. I will some up what they said.
The ATT version isn't out yet. No one can answer this question. I immediately felt noobish and dumb.
So after my posts here about the Microcell ... I still have no fix. And after my post over at the g-note o feel stupid. No winning for me in either case. Mom and Dad both denied my requests.
On a separate note: I went my the ATT store in Marion IL. I asked the salesman when they would have a G-Note in stock... he replied " oh! You mean the Phablet ?" . I almost threw up. Is anyone actually using that term? I see the logic in the term but just saying it out loud makes that beast of a phone sound like wuss that gets picked last when choosing last for a kick ball game!
Way to wuss it up ATT.

I have had an Infuse since June and relied on a M-Cell until recently. In as short of an answer as possible the M-Cell does not work well with 4G phones especially the Infuse. SMS are sent over data signals and that is where the bottleneck is. Get used to it, my texts would fail 50-80 percent of the time and I lost about half of my calls in under 15 minutes.
FYI: I called AT&T and demanded a refund for the M-Cell as it was causing my reception issues, after the unhook my phone is tolerable though not perfect. I received a $165 credit on my bill and then sold the M-Cell on ebay.

I am very happy that you have signal without your mcell. I however have no choice. We have 3 4g phones and only the infuse has this issue. The other disturbing fact is that I don't have the issue with Froyo. By deduction I am left to assume that the issue is the radio.

But when I use micro cell, my batter drains too fast. so now i stopped using microcell, and now I have better signal in my home.

The other disturbing fact is that I don't have the issue with Froyo. By deduction I am left to assume that the issue is the radio.

I had the same issues with stock Froyo, Infused 2.2.3, and stock GB, this of course does not disprove your theory as there are different modems. I just saw a lack of usability across 3 builds and gave up on the gadget and got my money back.
What I don't get is that my phone always showed 5 bars, so I infer the gremlin is not the radio, but some failure between the devices to handshake properly and this borks up the whole affair. Who knows though your theory is as valid as mine.
Just my $.02
I had this same issue when I had my infuse. It drove me bonkers so I finally sold the infuse and bought the sgs2 international version. It works perfectly with the M-Cell so maybe the note will too. Hope that's at least a little help.
Got microcell free also have horrible battery drain, have to resend sms atleast 10 times for it to go out, same with inbound SMS most of the time won't get them until I walk outside and disconnect from mcell then 5 or 6 will sms will come in at once, while my girls iPhone 4 sends/recieves texts fine over mcell
