[Q] Smasung Vibrant SGH-T959 Root problem - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a Rom version 3e, that could be the problem why I can't root the device.
I have Android 2.2 (upgraded via mini Kies)
Some how when I go over the steps to ROOT device I get a message
"E: Signature verification failed installation aborted"
Does any one know why?
How can I overcome this problem to ROOT the device?
Thanks
R

Rough
It's like no one out there has any idea whats going on with this phone. ****ing rough. I just wanna root and remove bloatware. If i could use one click on a map and just replace the update file it deposits with a working one, our problems would be solved. But alas samsung and tmobile seem to have stumped an army of android developers. I would pay someone to learn how to do this.

I'm having the same problem ... trying to install ROM Biffmod Vibrant v1.3
but always I got the same message ..

I am attempting to use the Z4ROOT and have attempted to use the one-click root as as well. Thoughts?

Hi Folks,
I'm unable to root my Galaxy S. (tried different methods)
I had rooted my phone through Ryans Super One click Lag fix & unrooted my phone a month ago.
I tried to root the devise again but not been able to succed with the following methods.
1. Ryans Super One Click 1.91 : the Super One click says waiting for device and dies, no sucess even after trying for nth time.
2. Installed Z4root.apk directly on my phone internal SD card: It force closes after displaying acquiring root shells?
3.Downloaded update.zip folder into internal SD card and then press the 3 button combo and it says.
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
4. Installed Universal abdroot which roots the 2.2.1 firware as well.
However even this failed.
Not sure why all the methods failed, Is it because I rooted and unrooted my phone earlier ???? Please help me...
model: GT-I900
Firmware: 2.2.1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1

[Q] Need Help With Root!

Hey Guys i have a samsung galaxy s i 897 unrooted... Of Course
I looked all over the unterbet to fix it but i would like to do this via phone only. I Downloaded the update.zip required for 2.2 froyo and entered recovery mode. I went to reinstall packages and it gave me an error after opening it saying signature required i realize this is an issue with 3e recovery. I again want to change this through my phone but if.that is not possible without a root already ill use a pc. So please what is the easiest way to fix this issue so my device doesnt read signatures when installing the root? Also again only through phone if that is impossible easiest way for my device!
Thanks guys!

help on Rooting Samsung Repp - gb2.3.5

Greetings,
I'm trying to root a U Prepaid Samsung Repp (SCH-R680). This phone is reportedly a rebadged Samsung GIO sold to US Cellular.
The unit is running Android 2.3.5 and kernel 2.65.37
Z4root, SoC, and gingerbreak all fail.
And If i try using the updater with a Samsung GIO update file it fails at signature verification.
I attempted to update the zip file for the universal Gingerbread root ( by stoneboy tony) by adding SCH-R680 in the assertions:
Code:
getprop("ro.product.device") == "SCH-R680" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "SCH-R680" ||
but am still experiencing signature verification issues. I attempted to self sign using the signing.zip utility found here on XDA but apparently that is not sufficient when using the android update <3e> utility on the phone.
I'm fairly computer literate and have access to both windows and Linux machines so any tips on what to try next are appreciated. This has become an obsession and I "must" root this phone
You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582.
I'll take a look at it. I think that SoC uses the same zerg rush script but it is definitely worth a try.
Do you have any idea why I get the signature verification problems and how to work around that? It seems odd to me that a rooting method would only work on rooted devices

It's your bootloader/recovery (being stock/locked) which may be causing that problem (not the fact that you don't have root). The only way around that would be to use a custom recovery to flash the file (with signature verification turned off).

This idea sounds interesting but help me get my head around this (I'm a newbie to androids). In order to use a custom recovery to bypass the verification I would need to root the phone in order to install the recovery, correct?

No, your device does not need to be rooted to install a custom recovery. All you'd need is an unlocked bootloader.
thanks! It is starting to sink in now. I'll do some more research and look into installing an unlocked bootloader. You've been extremely helpful and I think you have probably pointed me in the direction I needed to go with this
Cheers!

Just for the record, this exploit does not work on Android 2.3.5 on Samsung devices. The script runs and the device reboots without being rooted.
Update:
Still no luck with this one. The new universal gingerbread root by StoneboyTony gives a whole file signature error. I'm at a loss as how to replace the bootloader with a custom recovery that doesn't do signature verification.
1) youd need to build a custom recovery for teh device and flash it using odin.
2) flashing any old recovery could cause bricks
3) best way to build one? getting root and getting the files off the device to build with
4) sorry i should have publicly posted it sooner, samsung repp is rooted :/ when i get the time ill upload the files etc

Looking forward to when you get a chance. I've tried several methods but this sucker is just not rooting for me. When I get a chance I'll try to manually root it over ADB but I think that my biggest issue is going to be that zerg rush may have been patched in this version of gingerbread so manually rooting it may not have any better results than the methods I've tried so far.
@shabbypenguin:
I found your thread dated august 2nd - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812177 But it doesn't have a link for the rooted kernel. I'll subscribe and keep checking the thread to see if a new link shows up.
Awesome job and thank you.

Tmobile Galaxy S 4g root issue...

Hey there, Just want to thank everyone here in advance for any help and direction they give.
Got a few NOOBish question of course... but please understand ive used Google, and The search option on this forum (and others!!)
I got a Samsung Galaxy S. which im trying to root... These are my issues..
1. When phone turns on, it says VIBRANT, it clearly says Galaxy S across the back of the phone, But person who gave me the phone says its Galaxy S 4g..... I cant tell the difference of which/what phone it is.
2. I Got it a few days ago, so i updated to 2.2 froyo (via kies mini) after i connected it with with tmobile
3. Superoneclick was NOT working ,it kept hanging , and getting errors. Until a few minutes ago it told me it was successful with the root....
Then said it would send a superSU request of some sort to my phone. Then i get a "SuperSU binary needs to be updated,", then i recieve a "installation failed"
NOTE - SuperSU was installed PRIOR to root attempt.
4. Rom Manager said successful flash of CWM (i flashed the galaxy vibrant version) ..
Cant reboot into CWM recovery tho, it goes to Android System Recovery (3e)
5. I tried superSU after rebooting, and i get same error. Also when i type SU into terminal command, i still get "permission denied" (so makes me believe the phone never rooted thru superoneclick ? Obviously ? Or im wrong.... i dunno
... .Other notes, i tried z4root, by manually installing the apk via ASTRO manager, i clicked permanent root, it begins, it gives a notice of "shell being aquired" (i may be wrong on the wording.), then it vibrates the phone and shuts down. Any attempt to click z4root icon again causes a vibration of the phone. Thats all, app stays closed until reboot. Tried a few times, unsuccessfull.
I have checked a few of the other options, one was an update.zip file i found on here, but i got an error also. Then i see alot of forums mentioning flash back to 2.1 using obin, BUT most of those posts are from early 2011 ? Id assume 2.2 is capable of being rooted so much later.
So if any direction can be given, id apprecaite it alot guys n girls. For sure. Also, after root, if anyone knows of some good custom roms , or kernels.. (I do notice the lag on 2.2 BAD.)
I havent ever messed with kernels, but i did jus go thru issues rooting a metropcs wildfire S... OMG dont get me started on that thing of trash !!!....
Thanks again... ill await some responses as i search some more.
Ok so its a samsung vibrant galaxy s
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Ok... weird, but i was going thru some apps, and seen CWM needed an update, i updated it , opened it , and was asked superuser permissions.... Then went to terminal, and SU, and got the # sign. So it rooted without having to go back to 2.1 with odin.
So i am rooted now.... If anyone knows of good roms / kernels (im 100 percent unfamiliar with kernels... Roms,, ehhhhhh), for this now ?
Thanks again.

ok.. guess noone can help ?
Did i post wrong ? I mean i did clearly state that i used the search options, and i am doing my own homework on the issue.. but still remain stuck on some of the issues at hand...
anyone ?
You likely would have a lot more responses had this been posted in the section for the device. There are a number of differences in the vibrant and the gs4g. If you still are not certain which you have, you could quickly tell by the battery... the s4g is larger. Look at the amount, google it.
Once you have the correct model, if you are still having issues go post in that section. From reading your posts, it sounded to me like you had it fixed and were now just looking for the best ROM to flash.
