My problem is not the lag or connecting. But its staying connected. I use quick gps, then gps test, then I start up my gps program. I use TomTom, Garmin XT, and tested out google maps. When I connect the gps will work then it drops signal and garmin say lost gps signal. I have turned on gps test and all other programs off to see what happens and it drops signal and says looking for gps unit. Then it starts and drops. I tried soft reset and it happened again. I'm still messing with it to see if I can figure it out or if it is the phone. Does anyone know if there is some kind of software conflict or if something is causing the error. I have tried the gps programs with my bluetooth gps unit I use to use on my 8525 and it worked great. I really want to get this GPS working and be a little more reliable because this is one of the main reasons why I bought this phone.
AGPS is disabled?
No agps is enabled
Does anyone have any idea why this is occurring or anything I can try. I have updated to the latest garmin but it still doesn't work properly. I can connect sometimes and use the gps. But when trying to reconnect it gets satellites then drops them. On gps test it shows 3d like 8 satellite bars and saying starting gps then losses everything and says looking for gps then does the samething again over and over.
I still have a lag problem but:
Check that AGPS is off (Adv.Config. 3.3 is your friend)
Set polling through the COM interface to a lower speed (4800/9600/19200 max.)
Use GPS test
GO OUTSIDE
WAIT
I got lock with ANY radio though it may have taken up to 5 mins.
I get a lock but then it will lose signal. Or if I turn the gps off and try and lock on later it keeps cycling between looking for gps and gps starting but doesn't go to gps running just goes back to looking for gps
I have the same exact problem. Gps test will connect, then quickly lose connection. Tomtom and garmin will get a signal for a few seconds and then lose connection. This is all outside with a clear view of the sky. I've tried two different fuze's with multiple roms and radios and the problem is still there. I finally got fed up and went back to my e71. This is ridiculous in a $500 phone..
I was thinking about returning it but I did a search and I noticed this is a common problem. I thought it was mainly lag but I see there are several problems with this gps. That sucks because I was really looking forward to the internal gps coming from the 8525/herms. If I really need to get somewere I sill have to carry my bluetooth gps reciever. I 'm going to try some of the tweaks people have suggested and see if it helps.
I haven't used my GPS a ton, but the little I have, it has worked, as long as I am in the car or outside. When I am in the house, it rarely finds a signal. I think that the GPS radio is pretty weak, though generally you don't need GPS when inside of a building.

and this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888
I tryed only
1. disable A-GPS (didn't help)
2. disable GPS logging (YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS)
Now it works perfect.!!!!!!

You mean NO lag?
Isn't GPSLOG = 0 disabling logging? BTW I also changed the registry using adv.cfg. to go to the SD card, not device

finally a thread about exactly my problem, you are not alone... im going to try disabling AGPS and logging, but i have in the past to no avail.... i have done a hard reset since then.
very annoying for such an expensive device
Today I received the update from AT&T for my Captivate that supposedly "fixes" the various GPS problems. However I cannot get my phone to lock at all. I am outside where I should have no problem seeing the satellites. One thing to note is that I did use the Lbstestmode settings suggested in several different forums a while back. Is it possible that I need to change something to get back to where it was in the beginning?
I downloaded "GPS Test" and the GPS on button in the corner always shows yellow no matter what I do. I made sure my phone is set to "Use GPS satellites".
Is there anything else I shoudl try?
im thinking about getting an unlocked tmobile phone, i have AT&T if i use a sidekick 4g on edge will gps work fine?
GPS works even without an internet connection.
i just tried it my atrix GPS wont work without any internet connection same with mom's iphone 3gs and my brother's S2 (had wifi and internet off)
It's impossible, "you're doing it wrong"
The GPS antenna will work fine without internet. The applications that utilize the GPS function probably wont like maps which requires internet to download the directions. Any app that has all the necessary information installed on the phone to utilize the GPS like apps that record workout data for exercise: speed, altitude, direction, coordinates should work fine. Any other apps as long as your are connected to wifi should work fine too. Edge and GPS on my phone the galaxy s2 work fine and I have used it many times that way for navigation just took forever to load satellite maps.
ohhhh ok thanks webD and Syrusoo i know what i did wrong i turned off the satellite too, thanks again for the help, also thanks your meters lol
since installing cm10 i have had the wrong location for everything. i have recently upgraded all my routers/bridges to dd-wrt, and normally i would assume it is an isp/wifi/google issue. the problem is that my phone has the correct location when connecting to the same network. if i go outside, turn off network location and hook up with gps only then my location goes back to accurate in some apps. others apparently remember the network info.. did tons of searches with no help. really stuck on this one
Wow, so this is pretty interesting. Today I was fiddling around with VPNs (ends up being unrelated), and noticed that my wifi speed as shown by Speedtest was HORRIBLE. like 1mb - 6mb when it should have been close to 70mb. Not only that but while it was testing it would freeze several times during the downloads and uploads. We actually returned my husband's first tablet because of this issue, thinking it was a hardware problem. After an hour or so of fiddling around trying to figure out what happened, I noticed that Location services was on. Usually I keep this turned off on my tablet. I turned it off and ran speedtest again and what do you know. My wifi speed was back to where it should be and there were no freezes.
So what I'm wondering is... has anyone else noticed this problem? Can you reproduce it? Why would this be happening? Can anyone think of a fix for it? Most of the time keeping Location turned off won't be a problem for me, but Aereo for example, needs it turned on in order to stream shows.
One thing of note is that SpeedTest seems to rely on location services since when you fire it up with location services set to high accuracy mode the GPS radio fires up in notification panel. I'm not entirely sure that it'd be a fair assessment to say that the setting affects all wifi connectivity speeds when enabled as opposed to reduced speed during GPS use.
That said, I can't say that i'm seeing the same thing using Ookla's SpeedTest app. At first I thought I did but after toggling location services a couple times things settled in and i get consistent 55-60Mbps download test results whether location services is on or off or in high/low accuracy mode. My test results on the tablet match consistently with those of my rMBP in the same room on the same router (in the next room) using a 5ghz wireless n network.
I've never turned location services off on my tablet, opting instead to always leave it in low power mode (GPS isnt my thing, I use my cell phone for that) and have never had issues with wifi speed.
When I went back to see if I could reproduce it by turning Location back on.. it was fine. So I have no idea what's going on, lol. Maybe after leaving location on for a while it starts to degrade? I might test that out eventually. Just glad it is working better now.
