LOL there are quite a few things but this is mainly the biggest thing, it is getting to be annoying with this phone in particular
Is the fact I keep having to sign into my gmail...like every hour.
I have 3 main gmail accounts
One for pleasure/personal use
One for work
One for school
(I am considering switching back to WP7 & hotmail...but that is another story)
It seems every hour, I'm having to resign into Gmail. And it's not a huge deal but it is a bit annoying seeing the little notification sign that is saying that you need to sign into [email protected]
Furthermore, my Gmail is not pushing to my phone whatsoever so I am not getting any emails without having to sync it manually...even though it is said to get it whenever available.
Idk what to do or what exactly the issue is but it is truly annoying. Any suggestions would be nice?
:O wrong place for this sweety. But I have 5 gmail accounts setup and 2 personal and working fine. Which rom are you using stock? do you have them all setup under account and sync? I remember when I got MT4G and checked 2 acc's from stock rom and worked fine.
lol well where should i post this at then?
and ummm, i am actually using the phone the same exact way out of the box
and everything is fine under accounts & sync...just none of them sync or hardly
ever
You are using GMail App and not EMail App right? Ok lets see you have Background Data and Auto Sync checked? Open GMail app and click Menu> More> Setting> Notification Setting> Email Notification checked? Also make sure you have Update Schedule with fixed time on Send & Receive in GMail setting.
Can u even get gmail over wifi?

Oh my mistake. Lol I didn't have my background data enabled after all haha.
But the sign in issue is annoying

I'm glad to know someone is having similar troubles.
It's all good. I'm probably just going to trade this for a windows phone anyway.

I have 4 gmail accounts sync'd on my phone and don't have to sign in on them and get things pushed to them just fine. I'm also on the stock rom...
Just a random thought here, but try deleting one of your email accounts & set it up using the regular mail app & not the gmail app. Just giver it a shot & see.
I have 1 thru the gmail app & 3 thru the regular mail app (live, hotmail & school) & they all work fine

I'm having problems with HTC mail. It doesn't want to load any email from my yahoo account. It was working fine out of the box till yesterday. I did restarts, factory restores, etc... Still not loading. Just wondering if any of you have this problem.

Same issue here. it worked for less than a week. I've had to rest to Yahoo mail android app.
Maybe it's trying to say Yahoo mail sucks?
When you have the mail app open hit menu, settings, send & receive, download past email and make sure you have something other than 1 day selected. I'm using 14 days for my work email and seems to be just the right amount.
Who uses yahoo?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
I read about this a few days ago. Yahoo did what Hotmail did and is requiring a "plus" account to use IMAP features or something like that.
This was the initial reason I switched to gmail years ago. If I can remember, the solution is to use the Yahoo app as mentioned.

Guys I had the same issue, it was working out of the box and then stopped working here is what worked for me.
Delete your yahoo mail account and create a new one, this time use a wrong password(I know it doesnt make any sense) then the phone will tell you AUTHENTICATION FAILED(since you put the wrong password). Now put the correct password and it will work.
Let me know if still an issue.
Okay, I think I discovered Yahoo Mail as a major cause of battery drain on my Charge. First some background. At one point early on with the Charge I had great results of 20+ hours. That was shortly after setting up Humble and ImNuts Kernal, calibrating the battery, and installing basic apps.
As many of us do, I kept on tweaking from there. I tried various combinations of Imoseyon's kernal, EP1Q modem, and V6 supercharger and related scripts. At some point in the process I lost the battery life. I started getting 6-8 hours max! Of course at the same time I kept working on getting the "perfect" app setup. All this tweaking meant I couldn't tell what started the problem.
Anyway, I've since undone V6, gone back to PBJ kernal, and restored EE4's modem. I thought I noticed some improvement, but really it was no more than a couple hours more than before. Maybe 8-10 hours total.
So, I started thinking about how Data usage kills my battery at work. I get a very weak signal and it absolutely kills the battery. But still, I was able to get up to 20 hours before, even leaving data turned on. So, I wondered if anything was causing it to work extra hard to send/receive vs before.
Long story shortened (a little). I considered the Yahoo Mail app with it's "push only" setup. This is something I didn't have setup right away. I'd used the built in email. So, after disabling "Notifications" in my account and re-enabling the built-in mail notifications, I've recovered my battery life! Today I've been going 15 hours and I've still got 31%. And that was with fairly heavy use and leaving data on all day!
I stress that the Yahoo Mail setting is the only thing I've changed since last week. I've been very patient to make one change at a time so I could track this down properly.
So, anyone with primarily weak signals care to test this theory as well? I really feel this did it, but could use some confirmation considering all the previous variables. I'll do some further testing myself this week. Maybe a day with and a day without. It's difficult not to just jump to GummyCharged 2.0, but I really want to confirm this issue first.
Some confirmation can be found by googling the issue: "yahoo mail android battery drain". Hope this may help someone else.
Yes I have notice this too. I live in a non 4g fringe 3 g area and my battery drains fast as well. Yes I have yahoo mail and have since uninstalled it and have the stock email app pull my mail from yahoo. Also any app like yahoo messenger also runs in the back ground and no matter how much u do a force off, it restart a few mins later. Here is a list of app that run in the background.
A. Yahoo mail
B. Yahoo messenger
C. Live holdem poker.
D. Maps
E. Gallery
F. Gmail
G. Stock email app
H. Music
I. Search
And of all the rest of the stock functions. I wish that most of these apps would only run when you launch them and when you close it, they would stay shut off untill needed. Freezing the apps work but you cant use them until u unfreeze them. I know that this is done for a reason, so that there would be no lag. So I guess these are some of the things we have to live with.
One of the big mistakes samsung did with the charge is not install enuff onboard memory. So when you have all these programs running it does cause a lag and massive battery drain on our phone. As far as the data connection, I can not complain about the phone cause this is a problem that BIG RED is causing an additional drain on the battery. The mighty no connection and searching for service LOL..
END RANT..

Glad to see it's not just me. You'd think a "push" service would use less battery, but in the case of yahoo mail it seems the opposite.
I'm not as worried about ram usage as network usage though. With a custom rom it seems fairly responsive. It's the network use that I wish we had more fine control over at the system level. If I could just make some of the offending apps act less aggressively that would be great.
In fact, I wish the OS had a smart signal monitoring feature that could tell apps to throttle back until a strong signal was available.

I noticed this too. It was causing a huge drain! The only reason I got the yahoo mail app was because the stock mail app wouldn't let me sign in to my yahoo account. Does anybody know the reason for this? It worked less than a week ago...

The stock mail app is working fine for me. Never had trouble logging in. Maybe try from a computer to see if it needs to verify your account or something?
So far today I am using 5% per hour with yahoo's app disabled and very heavy usage of phone and screen. During one hour with little use it only used 2%. Very acceptable. I'll try turning yahoo on for the afternoon and see the difference.

What i did is uninstall the yahoo mail app and load the stock email app, you can do all the same stuff with the stock email app as you can with yahoo mail. Also I found that the email app that comes preloaded with the gc 2.0 has issue with yahoo, and other email accounts ( Iam sure other people did not have this problem but i was one of few that did. So please dont flame me and say that iam the only one with this problem). What i did is pull the stock app off my tablet and installed this one on my phone, all problems are gone, i can receive and now repley, create and send my emails. I can now easily setup all of my email accounts, aol-yahoo-comcast, etc. If you can pull the stock email app that was preloaded on the phone before you modded or install any custom rom/themes. Also if you have yahoo messenger installed, get rid of it. I found that between the yahoo mail and messenger app my battery life was almost cut in half.
Ya I'm running gc 2.0 with the same problem. Any way you could post a link of the stock app?

Update
So, I finished my testing:
Yahoo Mail app notifications turned off:
Used 35% battery in first 6 hours of day with heavy use of phone
Yahoo Mail app notifications turned on:
Used 55% battery in next 6 hours of day with very light use of phone
So, simply enabling the Yahoo Mail app notifications increased my battery use more than 50% per hour. This is even though I went from heavy usage before the change to practically no usage after the change.
Needless to say, I'll be leaving Yahoo Mail notifications off and let the built in e-mail app notify me. Which it does a very fine job of by the way. It's still "push" even.
So, I'm wondering how to find other offending apps. I'd have thought Spare Parts would tell me, but apparently Yahoo Mail was hiding its network usage behind some other title. Perhaps it's lumped under Dialer or one of the mysterious user ID's that show up (1043, I think?).
Anyone know of another network usage watchdog type app for our phones that might shed more light?

Go into your system/app folder and delete the stock email app that you have installed. Of course by deleting this you may/may not lose all of your accounts you have setup. Then download the link and install this one ( also make sure you rename the app to Email.apk ) i dont think you have too, but if you have a problem installing it, try it, you never know). Problem is since you allready have the email app installed, it will not let you install another one. I know this to work, for i have tried several different version that have been floating around these site, and they are all the same version, So i pulled the stock email app that i have on my Gtab and used that one on my Charge and it works great. push/pull-reply-create all works now, as well as being able to create all email accounts that i have without any issues. Just make sure once you have installed that you restart your phone for all to take into effect. Look at the app page on the phone and make sure you have the white envolope w/green @ symbol on it. If you do and you launch the app you should have a page loaded that has all the different email accounts that you can use to automatically setup. Just enter you [email protected] account and the password and then click next and if all setup correctly it will prompt you to pick a nickname and name to use for that account. Finished.. LOL

No you dont flash it. Once you delete the email app you have in your system folder. Then you just click on the email app to install it. Of course you will have to redo your settings, and then you should be good to go.

Did you try to add it manually as an IMAP account? Enter your email address and password and then select manual setup or whatever that option is. Google the SSL IMAP yahoo settings for android and you should be able to get it. That is how I got mine working.

Running Stock Rom (2.3.6 Rooted)
I've been using my Yahoo account on the stock EMail app since day one of having this phone. I've had no issues until a few hours ago.
"!" in a yellow triangle on my notification bar pops up saying, "Unable to Login/Login Failed." Sorry, can't remember the exact message.
I tried deleting the account and re-adding it, to no avail. I can login to my account via my computer and the actual Yahoo! Mail app.
But I do like the ability to have access to all my email accounts in one app.
Thanks,
DK
I answered this for someone else a week or two ago. There is no fixing it. I had this happen to me and i worked on it non stop for a day to get it fixed. I got so pissed i called Motorola. I usually never call about anything, i avoid doing that. Motorola don't even know how to fix it. You have to set up your Yahoo account with the default mail app manually. Google the settings for Yahoo pop mail. I don't know them off the top of my head plus mine is a att.net account that runs through Yahoo so it's probably different.

Just a shot in the dark here. Sometimes they change the email settings. Like server settings etc. Find out from Yahoo what your settings should be for your phone. If nothing you've done has changed this could be the issue. This happened to me with ATT about a month ago.
The End.
Need to setup manually both incoming and outgoing servers.
Or you can try K9-mail.
Always good to know...thanks for the replies.
I'll just go with the Yahoo!Mail app. It's really not a bad app anymore (used to be super slow).

Back when the phone first came out I got the app for about an hour or so.
It was extremely slow and laggy. Haven't noticed any of that this time around.
Snappy, updates quickly, and has all the options (unlike the stock app).
These are the settings i use with built in email app.
Go to manual setup > IMAP account and change to these settings....

I had a similar problem on my Incredible because I have multiple Google accounts that have access to each other's calendars, so it would show all my events 2 and 3 times. Check your calendar settings and make sure it only shows one occurrence for each calendar name. Hope that helps.

I've been looking for a setting option like that for the last hour. Are you sure it exists on this phone? If so, I'd be grateful for your direction.
I deleted my corporate email and added it again. I'm no longer syncing contacts that's for sure.
Currently not being productive.
There are 2 places to look...
First, go under settings -> Accounts and sync. Check each account to see if "Sync Calendar" is checked.
Second, at the top of the calendar app main screen, hit the "Calendars" button. This will give you a list of available calendars to display. Mine has:
My Calendar = checked
My Tasks = checked
[email protected] with an arrow to expand showing my calendar (checked) and US holidays (unchecked)
[email protected] with an arrow to expand showing my calendar (checked), [email protected] (UNchecked), and US holidays (unchecked)
Show birthday with an arrow to expand showing "Contacts' birthdays" which is checked.
I left my other gmail accounts off this phone since I check them enough from work.
The problem I ran into on my Inc was from having my badseed767 calendar checked on 3 different accounts. Once I unchecked it on the extra accounts, it only showed up once.
Hope this helps.
No, but I appreciate the attempt. I was hoping there really was a way to ignore "same name" events. I had found the calendars menu and made sure only one of each account was checked and it was still multiplying everything. Then again it might have been too late since the events already multiplied. So this is what I did.
Deleted the email account. Joined all my contacts that could be combined. Setup the corporate email again and only synced the calendar and email. Went into calendar as you suggested above and made sure that only one corporate email was checked, then synced. So far no duplicates.

Sounds positive. I'm curious, do you have the Google sync thing running on a pc that syncs outlook to Google? Also, can you give us so insight on the exchange server? Curious if those having issues are imapi or pop3 configured etc.

Well... I honestly don't know. I'm new to Samsung/TWiz phones for the most part and I'm still trying to find my way around through all the settings.
As for Google being synced to Outlook, no, not intentionally at least. The only syncing I've done with Google has been on my phones. Hell, if I didn't have a phone, I'd never even look at gmail.
If I was on my HTC phone, I'd be able to answer your question on the server. Is there a way for me to see that somewhere in the settings? Haven't found it yet. If not, I'll try setting my phone up on my wife's phone(my old Rezound). However, I love to know where I can find that if it's an option.
EDIT: I can't find your answer. It's a corporate email if that helps.

I am using T Mobiles standard email app on my Sensation with a POP account. The phone is unlocked by T Mobile but never been rooted and is stock with all T Mobile updates.
I can download my emails no problem and as far as I`m aware it leaves them on the server. There are some I like to keep indefinately on the phone, for example, travel insurance details or weekend away vouchers. For some reason after a period of time, say about 3 or 4 days, these emails have vanished and are not in the deleted items folder. Where have they gone. Is there a setting somewhere that will let me keep them. I`ve searched all over the phone and I can`t find one. I`ve also searched the forum and can`t find this specific problem.
Hi there. Why don't you use the straight gmail application from the play store? I can promise nothing gets deleted. My guess is T-Mobile has a time limit or
Something to keep the emails and they delete them after. I also am T-Mobile user but I've always used gmail instead. I never lose an email. In fact some important emails I've kept for over a year now. Just download the app from the play store, set up the account, and you will have a more reliable email. Just don't use the email icon, use the gmail. Somehow it's different. It keeps all the emails until you delete them. Hope this helps. I've always used gmail and never ever had a problem like that. Best wishes to you.
