[Q] Porting latest galaxy s rom - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
Is it possible that someone please could port the latest touchwiz rom to our nexus s? Before the excuse was that the galaxy s was running android 2,2 but now that it has been updated to 2,3 it could maybe be possible and in a devs interest? Thanks a lot. And before someone tells me to port it my self, i will like to say that i have tried.

We might as well just put all our energy's into the TW4.0 rom dropping with the Samsung Galaxy S Two
Now that will be worth it
JD

you didnt have to start another thread about this. there was another thread of this.
and no one said the excuse was TW being on 2.2, the excuse is: "if you want a TouchWiz phone then get Galaxy S2."
other than that. CM7 pretty much has all the features TW has to offer with the exception of video codecs

Well as long nothing is happening, there is nothing wrong with keep on asking for it. And i think that there is a huge difference between tw and cm. Its not just the features i want, its more the UI.

then get a iphone lol.. there's no motivation for people to port TouchWiz framework to NS.
if the UI is what you want look for a themed launcher that looks like iOS

Odds of Cyangen Rom?

Guys what are the odds of stock android rom hacked on to the Sammy Charge???
Wondering what others are thinking?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
The odds are better than the odds that you took time to read the Development board where there are 2 ROMs available
and most likely a 3rd one soon by the dev that did the Liberty ROM the Tesla ROM.....
But if all you care about is this CM ROM; go get something else.
I'm sure there will be one eventually, but if you want it within the next month, I'd look elsewhere, as there are no guarantees as to when it will come or how functional it will be.
Lol @ Shotgunsams great response.

@shotgunsam...... Ummmm roms available. There all spruced up TouchWiz tweaks.
I am meaning a true Rom not built ontop of touchwiz.
Either i was looking for hope of one. Since the fascinate never got one.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Uh, did you read the descriptions of the ROMs? DroidXCon gives you LauncherPro, other launchers soon to come, and imnuts has a streamlined ROM with the default AOSP launcher. Both completely remove TW launcher, according to the descriptions.
I too would love to see CM7 for this device. But the fact is, there are a few great ROM's available already, which is incredible considering the phone has only been out for two weeks! I really appreciate the hard work of the devs, and can't wait to see what's available in the coming weeks.
I got the DI when it first came out. First it was when will it get root. Root was a ***** becasue it was so random it worked with some sd cards and some it did not. There were methods of clicking your sd card in and out which actually worked for me. Not a day latter everyone was *****ing about roms. When will we get this or that rom. Look at almost 1 year later and there are crazy amount of roms. It takes time be patient and look forward to what is coming. Crap I am typing this and I don't even get my charge till tuesday. I hate touchwiz I will root, rom, replace launcher with one of my choosing. If I hate something will just get another phone 6 8 months down the road but really not concerned about it at this point. I think in time it will be like every other phone tons of awesome roms from great developers. Liberty was one of if not the best roms for the droidx which I own. Just knowing they same people that worked on that rom is doing stuff for charge has me stoked.
Guys im not knockin the devs. But everything is built off TOUCHWIZ just cause you get rid of the launcher its still touchwiz under the hood.
The fascinate never had a locked bootloader either and noone ever got a stock android rom working. So i was just asking if it would be possible here. Anyways no biggie....

No way of saying will it get cwm7 or not. I will say the Droid x has a locked boot loader but Liberty rom was amazing. They put a ton of details and tweeks so that you could change things they way you want. As much as you could anyways with a locked boot loader. The developers of that rom did a great job with what they had to work with. Now if they are dev for this phone and it is fully unlocked. Wow no dobut will they put out a awesome rom for it. Now I have every intention to installing the best roms out for this phone when I get it tuesday. Developers deserve not only our thanks but donations as well. Thank you guys that put in all the hard work making our phones run crazy cool.
Unlike other skins tw is small and really is easy to remove. I've deleted alot and it still is functioning. Sense roms=200MB touchwiz=100MB and idk about blur

Do you know why the fascinate still doesn't have a fully functional cm7? Samsung code. And lack of true full source... This too is a samsung device...

Well Samsung released the kernel source pretty much immediately didn't they? Also didn't Samsung say they were going to be better about releasing that kind of stuff, and also keeping bootloaders more open? So this could be a real possibility. Although if you know what your removing, I would assume like HTC Sense, you can pretty much take a TW based rom and completely remove TW and have it work fine.

You do know that the Fascinate is knocking on the door to get full CM7 support don't you? Honestly, if you didn't like the Fascinate, you won't like the Charge, and based on your posts here, I don't think you ever like any android phone as they all seem to have one problem or another.

The reason the download is so big is that Samsung didn't clean out the kernel source tree after building, and tar'd up the source files as well as the built binaries (and all the other generated files). After you download, do "make distclean" and you'll save yourself some space and get rid of the useless files.

Apparently a lot of people are having trouble understanding the question. lol
I been wondering the same thing though. I have a good feeling about CM getting on bored eventually, it's what I'm looking foreward to the most with this phone. I miss having my notification bar on the bottom of my phone like I did with my D'Inc... lol
The only reason I say I "think" that it has a good chance getting CM support is because it seems, besides the Fascinate, they have been doing a great job cracking down on Samsung phones lately in the past few months. Besides the more phone supported by them, the better and the more recongnition they get. Until then ADW Ex is working fine for me.
Shout out to CM for all the awesome hard work.

You looked into the epic cm7 builds? Lots of issues.
Any cdma phone is having serious issues with the porting.
Not trying to flame anyone by any means. Just informing people of what I feel is overlooked...

Coming from the original Incredible (CDMA) Rooting and ROMing was a breeze and also received CM support pretty quickly. If anything, I would think that the 4G radio would be the hardest work around. You never know though.

Stop comparing MIUI to iOS just because it has all the app on the launcher, MIUI is more than that..
+1 MIUI is NOT an iOS clone.. its way more..
stop judging and try it, see for yourself.. if you dont like use something else, dont ***** at the people that do use it lol
+1 me love MIUI

You guys just sit down and relax, i'm totally sure One S will have official support, because almost every above par HTC has it!
I hope we do. but miui tends to keep a lot of older devices and add the newer one later.
but we have a good head start with the unofficial rom, hope they are aware of that.
I find it hilarious and embarrassing how many phones were added to that list more than once...

I will be updating my ROM every week, just like China. It would be done already today, but there was a delay in China. The other thing to realize is if it does go official, it will be based off sense, so the file size will be at least double of what my port is.

That's the way MIUI has been doing all their official v4 releases. It's called patchrom. By doing it that way, they don't have to really on there being a developed aosp base, which can help the roms be released sooner. Downside is the zips are like double the size, and it's not an aosp ROM anymore

That would be cool. I'm honestly a fan of Sense Roms, but I dislike HTC a lot.
It may be easier than on the Galaxy nexus/NexusS due to the Qualcom CPU...

We have kernels for AOSP and TW, they'd just need to pick on and modify it if they even need to. It comes down to how much they really want to port it.

Camera Port

I know it's not doable at the moment, so before everyone comes down on me tellin me it's been asked before, but I heard that someone was able to port the stock (TouchWiz) camera app from the international version I9300 to CM10. Is there any truth to that, an if so, does anyone have the link to it they can pos here?
Thanks

I haven't heard but it would be great. BUT since they could barely get the normal Google camera app to work I'd be surprised.
It has been done on a previous touch wiz device, don't know the details but it is possible. Read the change logs here, perhaps some insight can be had by extracting the Rom and poking around. There would likely also be some useful things in his git

Hi,
I need help to get Touchwiz working on our Nexus 5.
Please don't say "Why Touchwiz ? Just buy Samsung phone" or any what else that can't help us to have Touchwiz on our Nexus 5.
I don't want to port Sense yet, i want to get Touchwiz to boot before, and then Sense. So don't ask for any rom port
Porting any manufacturer ROM is harder than to port CM based rom. It's not the same thing.
For the moment we need devs/porters and we don't need tester, i don't want to soft break your Nexus 5 so i'll use mine.
I will send Touchwiz port to any dev that can help.
It's really close to boot even if we can't see bootanimation. Because logcat is almost the same as AOSP one.
But if we can't fix the surfaceflinger issue, it will never boot and honestly i do not know how...
surfaceflinger crash with all port: touchwiz/sense and even old 4.4 lg g2 rom.
I'm working on Touchwiz, because Note III LTE has the same hardware as our Nexus 5:
GPU
CPU
RIL
GPS
NFC
Audio card
Power management
And perhaps the same Wifi/Bluetooth chipset
So as you can see, Galaxy Note III (SM-N9005) is almost the same phone as our Nexus 5, and if we can boot it, almost all feature will work.
The only thing that will be hard to fix:
sdcard (perhaps), camera (perhaps) and wifi/bluetooth.
But i think i can fix these things... So the main objective is to fix surfaceflinger, and i can't do it without help, i already did all that i know.
I'm using gralloc/hwcomposer/egl and all blobs from hamerhead.
I changed the kernel bootclasspath to touchwizz bootclasspath.
You can see with files i'm using here:
https://github.com/TheMuppets/proprietary_vendor_lge/tree/cm-11.0/hammerhead/proprietary
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_lge_hammerhead/blob/cm-11.0/device.mk
Here you can see the logcat: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5LJgOGBjYOBNkhselc5WV9uSlE/edit?usp=sharing
The problem is not this line:
D/qdhwcomposer( 949): int qhwc::adRead(): /sys/class/graphics/fb2/ad could not be opened : No such file or directory

Mostly due to the junk TW apps though. You can just add them later if you want. The main problem now is getting it to boot and surfaceflinger working.
This would be very interesting. I never thought it was possible

Thanks for your answers.
It's possible, i already ported lot of manufacturer ROM on my old Nexus S.
However Nexus 5 is Qualcomm based device and by the way porting is very difficult.
Even if Touwhizz ROM of Galaxy S5 is about 8Gb it's not really the problem here. Because if we can't fix surfaceflinger we will be not able to port ROM. But if someone fix this issue then we will be able to port Sense, Xperia etc...

Could the issue be here?
Code:
F/libc ( 739): Fatal signal 11 (SIGSEGV) at 0x00000438 (code=1), thread 739 (surfaceflinger)
surfaceflinger seems happy up until libc craps out.
