Missing feature i would like to see - Captivate General

during USB Storage mode, i would like to see maybe a little animation to let me know that the device is done receiving whatever file(s) im modifying. i know it wont take you Devs long to incorporate something like that
thanks guys!

there will be a status bar in windows, even microsoft word has a status bar for saving, most of the time with small files it is almost instant, USB can transfer upto 30MegaBytes (260 megabits) per second.
BUT the flash storage speed can very depending on the class. i am unsure of the speed on the captivate but the HIGH class 10 speed is only 80 megabits or 10MegaBytes per second.
so if you are copying small files, yeah they are done copying, if you are doing large files, you will always see a status bar, OR the program you are using will lock up until it is done doing its thing.
status on the cappy just isnt really necessary.

^^^^What he said. Also, when I copy music over using Windows Media Player I get a progress window that shows each song as it is being transferred.

to add to the above two, the screen turns off after 30 seconds of connecting to the computer.

Don't know why he switched but if you read the threads, the Atrix isn't the barn burner YET. Yes it's fast but until the Devs figure it out, modding will be very limited. That and the screen isn't as good as the Cappy.

List of bugs (until they're patched)

What's up guys, for those of us lucky enough to be using the G1 already, put of a list of what bugs that need to be fixed and improvements that need to be made. Since anyone can develop 'droid, the more nags are brought up, the more likely they'll be fixed.
I've noticed the following.

3) No indication of sms received if screen off and phone on silent. The status light will blink green for a notification, but with charger connected there's no telling aside from vibrate
I edited this original post a bit since the RC29 update - if there's one thing I can thank that update most of all its the speedup on the camera time. I have kids and you can't get them to hold still for nothin! After the update I was able to snap pics with them swinging at the park even and they came out fine.
bt and wifi
Hey, im not positive but im pretty sure you can make a shortcut to things like settings on your home screen, so then it would only be maybe two taps away? idk, i gotta wait two more days to be sure =/
shortcut only available to settings not directly to comm manager AFAIK, which only takes it to 3 taps.
When you choose to reply to a message from a notification it does not go in the subject feild but instead to the sent feild. (I want to type right away its a habit and when I do its in the contacts...
Hey,
For accessing the SD Card make sure you go to settings - Storage and SD Storage Settings, and enable USB Mass Storage Mode. If you go to Android Market - there is a program called AnyCut 0.6, you can make a wifi toggle button and bt toggle button on the home screen.

Which Android Market is that? I looked through all the apps today and didn't see anything like that.
The marketplace should be back to normal tomorrow for the release. They've been updating all the apps and the marketplace itself for the release day.
good point, B. I hadn't thought of that.
The only other app I need is for Google Docs to have the ability to edit. I didn't realize until I started trying to input numbers into a spreadsheet (my workout stats, gym geek, I know) that I realized that's read-only.
By the way, what's the point of a read-only spreadsheet? That's like having a fridge that opens up and just has pictures of food in it.
for some reason the music app won't play my mp3s?! any ideas?

2GB SanDisk microSD
Please add this bug to the list. microSD card is unmounted randomly and must be reinstalled to remount.
1. When the phone is off and connected to via USB cable it didn't seem to charge. At least the charging LED didn't come off if the phone was off. But then again it might be charging and just might be a bug in the led.
2. Cannot save images sent via MMS sent from other G1 users. This needs to be fixed.
Battery life is disappointing
I am sure it is because of the newness, had to charge the phone 3 times yesterday. This morning had it off the charger for less than and hour and phone was down to 70% charge. I just disabled autosync and gps, lowerred the brightness. Wil see how that affects things.

Lost in call audio
For some reason lost all audio incoming and out going on a call, it showed i was in call but i could not hear anything and the caller could not hear me. I did not change any settings, was on a call like 10-15 minutes prior to this with no issue.
I was able to clear the issue when i soft reset the phone.

There should be a "Bluetooth Settings" to choose, I have both on my screen now. Maybe in an update we'll be able to edit the icon from Any Cut.

[REQUEST][MOD] Hide 4G notification on 3.70

So, i upgraded to Fresh 3.5 which is based off of the OTA 3.70. and now when i keep 4G on and there is no 4G signal around that notification icon sits on the top left corner of the task bar. it's a 4G icon with an exclamation point on it and when you pull the notification bar down it says "4G antenna is ON, tap to scan for 4G service" can someone please find a way to hide this icon. I like to keep 4G turned on all the time and don't want to keep seeing this every time the 4G connection drops. TIA.
I second this!!
We can't be the only two to find this annoying.

Sprint could get all information from user.. note phone is rooted and flag account
No they can't, I'll called them today, no flagging or anything. And remember rooting is not illegal, and they cannot flag your account for doing it. Their saying this is a feature to save battery life. I disagree. My thought is they couldn't figure out how to get the 3G to 4G handoff to happen properly so this is their solution. BTW, I've had nothing but problems with 4G stalling since I've owned the phone so this is still an issue.
For those of you wanting to lose the constant notification. It's in the framework-res.apk You can use Gimp to make it transparent and then push the framework back to your phone. Or you can pull your framework and make your own flashable zip. Then you can keep modifying anytime you want to change something with 7-zip.
It's actually not in framework-res, and making the image transparent keeps the spacing allocated and continues to display the notification text in the "notifications" section of the drop down window.
So, having said that, consider the attached (flash via recovery) EXTREMELY experimental. It "should" remove all the corresponding 4G notifications. What I don't know, is if in doing so, it breaks the ability to automatically reconnect when leaving and re-entering a 4G area. This isn't as easy to remove as icons to the right of the status bar, or even some on the left. This uses android's built-in notifications framework, which requires ongoing services, etc, to report activity on the top left side, and in trying to break its display, it is certainly possible more than just its display has been "broken".
Again, give it a shot and see if it works without any unintended side affects. But, be warned, as mentioned, it may. Just not sure, as I haven't been able to test it enough to verify it works as intended.
Nandroid before flashing so you can restore more easily if it doesn't work as intended.
It flashed just fine, I haven't left my 4G area yet so well see if it effects reconnection. I let everyone know. Now I just need to change the scanning frequency interval back to what it was before because it seems that the interval is longer now, thus they put a button on the notification bar to instantly activate it. Thank you Sir for your help, and a Happy Christmas and Merry New Year to everyone.
After looking at the wimax setting the values that changed are-
Previous- wimax entry delay(s)600
Current- wimax entry delay(s) 300
and
Handoff Threshold
Previous - 0
Current - 6
I changed my handoff back to 0 and well see what happens, and I'll try 3 and report back.
I'm also going to lower entry delay and see what it does to battery life.
The (Previous) settings are taken from a post from July, so who know what there were a few weeks ago.
I can confirm that the .zip file works perfectly. Gets rid of the notification and reconnection works fine. Still playing with the scan settings in regards to battery life.
Finally, back on the forum. Thanks for making this mod. Downloading now and will give it a try.

Cool, thank for the additional confirmation.
Sorry to be so noobish. I just got my first android phone and just (stupidly) applied this update today and I hate how it doesn't reconnect the 4g automatically and makes me rescan. I really wish I could make the 4g how it was before.
My phone is not rooted or anything its just an HTC evo with a white backing right out of the box and updated. What should I do?
I'd be more than happy to donate to the developer of this method just need a little help here please.

You beat me to the same question. While it is trivial to undo, how did you apply in the first place?
I guess it is feasible to extract the apk from the zip, and manually click to install from your sd card, but somehow I doubt this is what was done...
Either way, for future edification, since you would have to know what apk it is, if you installed it this way, why not just download a stock ROM and pull out the same apk and re-apply?
This is what I have done and attached.

S3 pet peeves

I've had my S3 for a couple of weeks now, and while I've decided to abstain from the ROM merry go round for the time being, I have a list of things I'd like to see:
1. Changeable mouse pointer. It's too small and I can't really see it very well.
2. I don't see a way to select the back/menu/home buttons with my Bluetooth mouse.
3. I have the MHL adapter and need to be able to change the overscan in landscape mode. Also audio won't come out of the HDMI interface.
Otherwise it's an amazing device. This is a pretty short list, maybe I'll come up with more later. So far so good.
Pet Peeve 1 can be fixed by going on the "ROM merry go round"
1.) group sms in the stock messaging app does not properlywork
2.) Vibration cant be customized for notifications wit the built in program that lets you change vibration patterns

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. If I can find enough reasons to make me want to switch.
No "Stay awake while charging"
Unlocked Verizon GS3
For me, No Google Wallet...
Things I have issues with currently:
Wifi is off, would you like to turn it on? or there are wireless networks available notifications. I have them disabled when opening a high data app with mobile data enabled, they still popup and are super annoying. There is a hack I need to try for this.
The MTP mount for media transfer to your SD card. It requires special drivers and makes it difficult to transport many files at once to or from and does not allow it to mount UMS (universal mass storage) which previously was the standard to work with car radios, dvd players, etc. I have a hack in place using a script now that allows me to mount UMS for my external SDCard, but is still an annoyance.
If you use a 32GB or greater sdcard, it has to be formatted by the phone or in windows to extfat32, which is an enhanced version of the FAT32 file system allowing for greater than 4GB files and a less heavy table of contents using more processing. This would be great except its Microsoft proprietary and because Samsung doesn't have the full specs on it, it loses and corrupts files on the card quickly when you start using it. Also, ROMS cannot support it, it was designed by MS to be hazardous to open source and GNU licensing. There are tools you can download to format FAT32, which I have had to do.
S Voice, it kind of blows. I miss my quick button press to open google voice command which is roughly 5x better, now S Voice is opened when I double tap home and I have to unlock my phone and go to the google widget and hit the mic to call on google voice which lowers the convenience of voice commands drastically.
The Samsung internet browser is lacking. It does not resize text to fit the screen on double tap properly and makes it more difficult despite the large screen. It keeps webpages loaded in memory even after reboot unless you close them in the window manager which you have to scroll to the top of the page and click a button instead of being in the menu button menu. It opens a new window often when I click on links....
The modem and radios are weak and unstable at times. I am constantly dropping my data connection in known good areas and with wifi. To top it off, I get the wifi notification AGAIN to connect to a network when that happens.
It has an overactive screen auto brightness which makes pics I view look like crap when they are actually not too bad if the screen wasn't on minimum brightness.
Settings are not in great order. There are three different settings and areas portraying just to haptic feedback. Did you enable it under sounds? What about disabling it being disabled again by default every time power saving mode is enabled? Did you change the vibration power from zero? Um....
Samsung has way too many unnecessary notifications of its own cluttering the notification screen. I get four from just plugging in headphones. Wireless notification is always there by default.
Boot time can be much faster, its actually internally boot looping in order to check authenticity of system files to void warranty claims if custom. The new unlocked boot loader boots in at least half the time, maybe less. Don't like the 4G LTE boot logo or loud unnecessary noise on boot either.
Verizon is dumbing down the search in the next OTA update and all phones from mid-July already are updated because of the apple patent lawsuit that disallows searching of local content on a mobile device on devices not running iOS!? I know I'm not taking that update.
Thank you thank you thank you for the unlocked bootloader leak now.
Things I like:
This list would be long, but I'm just going to say it is an amazing device for media consumption with its screen and features, battery life is impressive, the cameras are great, its fairly smooth and fast in navigation, and it just looks great now that I've got a case on it. Makes iPhones look fat and stubby. I have been having a blast with NFC tags, put one on my chest freezer to automatically open up the drink up page on untappd for checkins when I grab a beer. Soon I'll be making a few pages online that I can edit so that I can program NFC tags with the links and remotely manage the content they bring up.

Although, Chrome doesn't reflow text to fit zoom in/out of a page. Neither does the stock browser, as mentioned previously.

Dead backlight?

So I'm wondering if the backlight might be dead on my TF101. I used my tablet over the weekend fine, but I turned it on this AM and can't see anything. Depending on the angle I just just make out the really white icons or sections of the screen. It looks like I don't have USB debugging enabled because I can't see it in adb devices. I can see it as an MTP device and browse the internal and SD storage.
I'm looking for suggestions to try to max out the brightness or test this device to see if it truly is the backlight or another issue.
ok, I've got adb working so I can communicate with the tablet, any suggestions on hardware diagnostics or how to increase the brightness level?
go here and follow the instructions, its going to allow you to control your android device from your computer thru adb. basically its going to show your tablet screen on the pc, that way you try to see if turning up the brightness works

Question batterylog.txt

My phone is randomly logging battery status. Sometimes every few seconds.
The log is always the same. Battery level greater than zero, with date and time stamp.
Sometimes it's a few seconds apart, sometimes it's a minute or two. Overnight it was exactly every 30 minutes. It's writing the log to a text file. It appears to have been doing this ever since I got the phone. Only yesterday, it just decided to start notifying me of this. An Office notificaation pops up with "Batterylog.txt is ready to download"
Every.
Freakin'.
Time.
Haven't figured out why or how to stop the logging, but turning off notifications for office at least stopped the annoying notifications.
I have an S22 Ultra, all stock and up to date. Any way to stop it?
Where is it logging it to? Can you share the file? I wonder if there is something in the header of the file

Yeah. There just isn't a lot of info there. I was mostly curious as to why whatever it is feels the need to log the battery status every 30 minutes, and why the only info given is "battery level greater than zero". That's pretty obvious by the fact that the phone is on. I'm even more curious as to why, all of a sudden, it started sending me notifications for it. I haven't changed any settings in forever.
I'd like to know what app it is, but there is absolutely nothing to go on. The file size is up to 1.4 kb since 11/03 04:37. I wonder how long it will take to get to 1 GB.
I'm sure there has to be an explanation. One of your apps is doing it, just not sure how to figure out which one it is.
I agree. I'm sure you've thought of this but it might be time to uninstall your apps one at a time until you figure out which one is responsible for it.

That thought occurred to me, but I opted for planB instead. I ordered a Pixel 7 Pro last nigjt.
Not purely for this reason tho. Phone tookansty fall a couple months ago. Nickel size chunk of screen gone, and it hasn't been fully right since screen replacement. Something loose inside, among other things.
