My Mac is setup with a Static IP and I can use FTP on a PC or Mac but I'd like to access things with my Tab. What app do you guys like (hopefully free) that works well?

As a client, i use AndFTP. Free but sloooooooow. As a server you can't go wrong with FTPServer, also free and damn fast.
However... The tab has issues being seen on the network. At least mine does, lol. So this is what i do: i turn off wifi, let 3g get connected, restart wifi, and as fast as possible i get connected to the tab (after that the connection seems to be stable). As a client on the Mac i suggest Cyberduck that is free and works well.

Hey for those who use their SNS on open wifi hotspots, do you use a VPN? If so, which free service do you use? I want to encrypt my connection using the built in VPN menu under the Wireless settings.
I'd like to use Hotspot Shield but I think that only works for iPhones. I found these, has anybody used them before?

VPN
None of the free one's I have tried have been very good. If an always on computer back at your house is a possibility and you have some mild technical skills you can roll your own VPN with OpenVPN and get something that works very well for cheap/free.
Hmm, that's a good idea. Never even thought of that. I don't have a computer that runs 24/7 though. I'm thinking of doing it router side as I found this: http://tomatovpn.keithmoyer.com/

Does anyone know how to get Netflix to work in Canada? After the recent update the app keeps saying "your device needs to be updated to instantly stream videos" before the update it said it couldn't stream because of my region... someone please help..

There's plenty of thread that shows how to get NF working in Canada.
Use a US IP. you need to log in the first time using a Vpn from the US.
you can use one of those site that let you try before you buy. After you successfully log in and maybe even watch a little you can use your regular wifi
It's pretty simple, luckily.
1. Install the latest netflix app using market enabler or find the apk.
2. Do NOT sign in yet.
3. Set up a VPN connection under your device wireless settings. (I've used "VPN Reactor" and "Best Free VPN" and they both work). Start the VPN connection.
4. Open the app and sign in. Pick a movie and start to play it for a few seconds.
5. Then you can stop the video, disconnect the vpn, and netflix should work fine now without having to use a vpn.
Hope this helps! For some reason this works fine on my TF but wouldn't work on my Nexus S. Not sure why.
Thank you do much guys got it up and working! Your awesome!

I followed this and signed with VPN reactor but everytime I sign in on my tablet I get an error saying Server hung up and that my username and password is incorrect....even though I have double checked it and it is the correct un and pswd. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks
Forgive my ignorance, but do you set up the VPN on the tablet itself? When you say "set up a VPN on your wireless device" are you meaning on the tablet, another computer (like a laptop or desktop) or the router itself?
I may be completely wrong here, (I've never used a VPN in my life) but as I understand it, I'm supposed to set up a VPN on my computer, then log into that VPN using the VPN app on my transformer, and connect remotely to get netflix to work?
Thanks in advance for clarification!

Just add a vpn connection under "Wireless & Networks" on your transformer.

You can vnc with Wifi Direct if both support it, or connect with wifi hotspot (even if no modem) then use IP address and proper app to vnc.
As far as I know not with bluetooth, I may be wrong though.

"Even if no modem"
Meaning you don't need an internet connection/mobile data to do it, just wifi hotspot off of your nexus and connect with your TF. Wifi-direct should be working with latest ota or any aosp rom too.
Edit: Also try droidmote app. (does cost a bit of money, only if you can't get direct connect working)
Anyone have any insight into theworkings of VPN on the Z3 (or other Sony products)?
I have a Private VPN setup which connects perfectly with my Nexus 5 and Galaxy Pro 8.4, but using exactly the same settings, I just go from "connecting" straight to "disconnected."
Any ideas?
Not really an idea but I have been using (and still do) Vpn on my Xperia M and the Z3C to connect flawless to some AVM 7490 and 7360 routers. Setting are really exactly the same?

I think the settings are not not the same. The VPN comes directly nativ from Android.

use different config
i mean test both PPTP and L2TP
+ check your session in server side that you connect how many device simultaneously
this is my experience
I can connect pptp vpn on galaxy devices easy and stable But on Xperia l2tp works better!
(actually it doesn't make scene for myself but this what i see!)
:good:
Hhhm, these two I honestly didn't test. My connections (to the above mentioned AVM routers) are of type "IPSec Xauth PSK" which work flawless.

Unfortunately, my router (ASUS), which is my VPN server only has PPTP or OpenVPN options, and is buggy with OpenVPN. So PPTP is my only protocol using this solution.
Hello,
I'm not having much luck accessing the internet while my VPN is turned on. It's just a simple mesh network from logmein and I like it because I can ssh in to my raspberry pi to turn my PC on without opening up ports on my home network.
Let me know if any one else has had this problem/ they know a solution. Personally, i've never had any trouble on my Nexus 7, or my Galaxy Nexus with using the internet while staying connected to my VPN but both of those are using stock versions of android also.
Thanks in advanced.
