I don't know if 2.3.1+ adds any more features because I'm new to gingerbread and mine came with 2.3.1 but if you haven't any issues just leave it for now? It's up to you really if you want the latest... It may cause issues that you don't have at current

After I postedthis thread my wifes phone sends the a pic message to the wrong persons bit she does not use the stock messaging app so we will have to see

[Q] nexus s really unstable!

im running stock rom with no mods yet (im usally a heavy softmodder but its not worth it yet)
and today epistle rom gripper and ninjump wanted to update so me not carrying updated them and for the rest of my day my phone has been rendered useless it wouldnt send text calls or go on the internet via wifi or 3g and it stopped getting a radio signal all together when i usally have full bars
so it turns out the new update to one of these programs nocked my whole phone unstable and i want to know how and why because as soon as i uninstalled them i was able to connect to the net instantly and i got my missed calls emails and text in as soon as they where gone so.
can someone shed some light on this?
have never heard of anything like that ;(
You might have to check with the respective developers of those apps. Maybe the apps you updated are not optimized for Gingerbread yet. I'm usually the first to criticize Gingerbread for its slew of glitches, but in this case, it sounds like the issue lies with the applications themselves; especially considering once you uninstall them, your phone is back to normal.

Yes, more or less. Just reach out to them (there should be an "Email the Developer" option in the Market place of every app to find their email) and tell them briefly but precisely the problems you're having. Mention you're running Gingerbread 2.3 (2.3.1 if you want to be specific) on a Nexus S. If they're good about replies, you should hear from them. Then see what happens from there.

If your phone has reboot issues please help out

For those of you who are experiencing the random reboot issue on the stock rom, would anyone be willing to do a factory reset without installing any apps and testing for a while to see if they still have the reboot?
I want to find out if this issue is a problem related to specific g2x's, or is triggered by some kind of software installed.
The reason why I want to test this out is because I have gone through 6 phones(waiting for 7th), and I can not recreate this problem on any of them running the same restored nandroid backup.
Also, for those of you who have gone through multiple g2x's, have you had phones with reboots and also ones without the issue
Since it seems LG is not recognizing this as a known issue, it most likely won't be fixed in the update they announced. Therefore its up tous to try find the cause of this issue whether it is device specific or due to certain apps installed.

6 phones? Did you ever once suspect the software?

I thougjt I clarified in my original post that none of mine had the reboot issue and I was not able to recreate it either.

If it a software related issue, it couldn't be the ROM since some people have this issue on other roms. It could be the kernel but all g2x's come with the same kernel out of the box IIRC and only some people are having the issue.
EDIT: wow I'm really inaccurate typing in portrait mode

I never had a reboot issue in Arizona and I just got back to Ohio today and i have randomly rebooted 4 times today and I had to do a battery pull this morning... crack that nut for me
I went through 2 G2x's.
First one stock, rooted, and CM7 - all ways would reboot.
Second one, stock, rooted and CM7, all ways would reboot, so I tried it stock and CM7 without any added on apps - same results both stock and CM7.

It seems that people who are getting reboots, are getting reboots across multiple g2x's, while people who aren't getting reboots, don't have the issue across multiple g2x's. So there must be some kind of installed software related thing that is not playing nice and causing the phone to reboot itself. There isn't enough info in order to make a definite diagnosis to the source of the problem yet which is why I made this topic.
I feel that it's definitely software b/c I've been running the leak without any reboot issues. They still need to also fix the kernel too

what is confusing me is if it is software, why is it only affecting some people? the leak is running a different kernel so that could possibly be why you aren't getting reboots, but something must be triggering it that the people who have the issue have down/installed etc.

Orrrrr...perhaps it related to the network somehow? Strength of signal or need for the phone to switch between 4G/2G? Or perhaps trying to go to the ever elusive 3g (since I still haven't seen a report of someone actually seeing 3g in the notification bar). Maybe folks with reboots are in fringe areas and the phone oscillates between 4g and 2g and doesn't like it? Maybe those folks use their phones differently...leave BT on all the time and run apps that access GPS regularly. Or any other number of possibilities.
It's too easy to blame an app.
I know that one of the barcode scanning apps caused my phone to lock up, and sometimes reboot.

Thats why I'm asking people to participate in this experiment. By eliminating variables one by one we can try to single out the cause.
EDIT: also, the 4g signal shows for both 4g and 3g. The only way u can tell which one you are on is by going to "about phone". UTMS is 3g then there hspa(+).

Mine actually rebooted randomly very often. It didn't matter what rom I had (Stock, Eagle, CM7). I tried everything.... factory resets, removed apps, etc. It's just very random when it decides to reboot. Sometimes when I'm using google maps, sometimes when I'm trying to text, or when I'm playing with an app. It got so annoying that I had to return the phone.
I noticed that the times my G2x has rebooted was when it got hot. For example, if I charge it, talk and surf at the same time it will start getting hot and either freeze or reboot. Sometimes just charging it will freeze it.
I'm trying out a new battery and so far the phone seems to run cooler...its 25.2c right now and I've been playing with the phone for a while...with the stock battery I dont remember the temperature below 27c ever...sometimes with heavy use I would see it go as high as 43c...
it's only been one day with the new battery but I'll let you guys know how it behaves the next few days.

Well android leaves apps open. There is no exit button on the apps that kills it. I religiously kill tasks and check to see what's running. Is there any type of reporting app that will tell you what was running at the time of the reboot like maemo/N900 has?
As far as I know, I have not had one reboot. Has not been a full week though. If it was rebooting in the night, I guess I wouldn't know it.
Hell, I haven't had any real probs. My Gps was way off, but I rebooted it outside and it's been dead on since.
I love my G2X.
I just got an exchanged phone due to reboot/shutdown issues. I did not install any 3rd party software, and i had a shutdown that required a battery pull while it was on the factory charger.
Not sure if I should keep exchanging until I get one that works or not...

[Q] Nexus S changes to speaker phone on recieving call

So I just got a Nexus S 4g on Monday and my dad and I already rooted the phone and have been trying different roms. He actually rooted it and swapped out the stock rom before I even knew I was getting it.
So with both of the roms I have tried, whenever i recieve an incoming call the speakerphone automatically activates and I have to manually turn it off.
We already tried reflashing the rom and we have also tried replacing a lib***.so file (forget which one) and neither fixed the problem. I cant find any sort of setting for this.
Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix available that someone can guide me? Very new to Android so I'm still learning the tricks of flashing etc.
Just curious...did you test the phone before it was rooted.

I received the phone on monday evening and my dad had the phone all day and routed it etc.
I never handled the phone with the stock rom. Its not too big a deal since I don't use it for much calling but a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Well it seems like you don't know if this problem has always existed or if it is a result of flashing a custom rom. Best bet would be go back to completely stock and see if you still have the problem.

I'm having the same problem running a stock version of Android.
I started to have the same problem few days ago and my phone is all original stock, ,,
my wife just started experiencing this today. completely stock nexus s. we may try uninstalling the last few apps that had updates and see if we can trace it to one of those.
edit: are any of u using go sms (specifically version 3.66)? other users are complaining that recent update is causing this issue. im sending my wife a backed up version i have of 3.65 to see if its resolved
edit 2: rolling back to 3.65 did not resolve the issue, but rolling back to 3.64 did. good thing i have appmonster pro.....
I just started to have this problem today too. I did try to activate GoogleVoice yesterday but the calling issue did not begin until today. Running MATR1X v.6 and CM7 nightly #83. Didn't have this problem during stock.
Go sms's latest update is the culprit. The August 29 th update is responsible. Just uninstall that and put some other sms app.
Should solve it, It fixed my phone.
it happened to me twice yesterday, I answer the phone the screen went black and the sound routed to the speaker..can't go back to turn it off during the call as the screen has nothing. (stock rooted)...will uninstall GoSMSPro and see how it goes
If anyone needs/wants the 3.64 version of GO SMS, dm me you're email addy. (i'm assuming this would be ok on XDA since the app is FREE in the market?)
They (GoSMS) just released an update 3.66 to fix the problem

Its still exists on 3.66. My wife was using this version and it had the problem. We had to roll back to 3.64 before it went away.
u were right, Go SMS was the issue, they released an update today and solved the problem!
cheers everyone!
Glad I saw this thread... my G2 started doing this after not changing the ROM in months, at least now I know what caused it. I got my Nexus S yesterday and haven't answered any calls without the headset yet, lol, so I thought it was just my G2.

G2x Reboot issues

Ive tried numerous ROMs and kernals and stuff with my phone, yet none of them seem to solve the reboot issue on my g2x except the stock 2.3.3 update a while back... Is there some secret im missing? why would the 2.3.3 update fix it while nothing else works well?
If all else fails i might have to just replace the phone... im tired of stock!

I think that might just affect only certain phones. I've noticed that it affects some and never happens to others. i jsut got my G2x and have yet experienced on reboot. And I've tried Weapon, Cm7 and EG.

i hope this isnt the case. not sure how t mobile is on replacing a phone if i claim its faulty- and i would need to unroot and change back to stock recovery and stuff =\ which i guess isnt THAT hard..
Yes but if you have insurance on your sim, card then just say you having difficulty with they should give you another one if not then use the one root method to unroot back.

Yeah, I have nothing but problems with these ROMs on my G2X. Going back to stock GB today. I was late to work a couple of times because my phone rebooted itself when my alarm was supposed to go off with Weapon, and now Eagles blood I woke up to my phone being completely off, where I couldn't even turn it on without removing the battery first (cuz that makes sense). I couldn't use A2DP on CM 7 either. As far as I'm concerned all custom ROMs are STUPID.

Agreed 100% somephones should need custom ROMs but phones like these shouldn't be cause its already as strong as it can be lin pack status is awesome and quadrant standard so their no point to root them cause its really fast and good already

So the only option is to get a replacement from Tmobile? Tried rooting my wifes phone and got the same thing. Using CM7 or MIUI, random reboots, dropped calls, and SOD galore. If this is the only fix I guess I'll be calling Tmobile again...
Ive never had the reboot issue to the extreme like some have. It has happened for me a few times with stock gb, did 2 wipes in a row and then it stopped. Not a guaranteed fix, but it worked for me.
once rooted, I removed almost all the bloat that I didnt use (from xboarders stock rooted rom) and never had an issue.
I did notice a while back with the nightlys that when I put my put my screen to sleep while in the sms app, id have to pull the battery. Issue resolved for me with the currenty nightlys.

Are you getting these issues right away or after you install apps? It is usually an errant app causing reboots and SOD and not the rom. Add apps one by one and wait a bit before adding the next one. If you add one and you start getting problems you can be pretty sure that is a problem app and uninstall it. There are many bad apps on the Market that can cause loads of problems. Google doesn't do any testing on them so it is definitely buyer beware, even if the app is free.

g2x random reboot fix
I think I have finally found a fix to the SOD and random reboots on the g2x. Obviously the SOD is solved by going to setting>development>stay awake.

We'll most likely get it once the sources are updated to 4.0.4. It looks like a lot of things have changed in this build too. Maybe performance will increase on our phones?

Anyone know when the OTA will be out
Been trying different ROMs but then my phone started random rebooting even when I put it back to completely stock and re-locked it. So, I sent it in for replacement. Now my replacement phone at the top of the screen used to say "T-mobile" but now just reads "LG" on the glass. I guess the later phones were no longer branded T-mobile.
One thing I noticed though is when I put in a ROM that worked flawlessly on my old phone it would cause the replacement to have random reboots, force close, and just plain lock up where I would be required to remove/replace the battery to get it to work again. Any ideas or suggestions??? I have only been able to run the stock GB rom successfully.
Any ideas on what the phones issue may be?? Or maybe when the OTA for a stock ICS will be available?
Thanks,
NotinStock

1. why are you posting in this thread?
2. some roms/kernels are undervolted, if your phone cant handle it youll get random reboots.
3. nobody knows when ICS will get here, NOBODY. if anyone says they know when it will get here, they are lying. there are no exceptions, EVER!
Loving all the improvements that come with this update. I just installed AOKP build 31 and have had zero issues thus far. Just one thing missing...can't hangout in G+ and we know whose fault that is. Nvidia
