Can anyone tell me what Android Media Processes are?
The reason I ask is that after re-booting my phone it takes ages to to become usable (5-10mins). I have Watchdog installed and when the phone allows, it shows that Android Media Processes are taking up over 70% of the processors capacity. Once "Killed" the phone responds properly.
Thanks in advance.

Android Media sever is killing my battery also...Settings -> About phone -> Battery Use Media Server is killing me! Stopped it from running but what is it?

Anyone know of an app that monitors individual apps net connect? I use 3g Watchdog but would like to know what apps are using the net and how much?
thanks

I've noticed my Android phone is gobbling data a lot faster than my Blackberry ever did. I'd like to know what's eating it as well.
I know the Blackberry is a lesser experience, but I've burned through half of my data cap in a week.
I've now resorted to just disabling data unless I need to use it, but it would be nice to know if there is one app, or a few apps that are chewing through it that I don't need to be running.
"Phone Usage" is what you should be looking for in android market! Droidwall is another app that will allow you to explicitly enable/disable certain apps from accessing data on your phone!
Try spare parts, there's a battery management option that'll show you data usage, gps usage, partial wake lock and cpu usage. if it shows a UID in place of the app you just need a app identifier to tell you what that uid is.
Biggest thing I found using it was dolphin browser had a huge data leak even after closing it through exit causing massive battery loss on my phone

Droidwall requires root access though. I am trying Phone Usage now next to Network Monitor (which does not monitor seperate apps) cause I am wondering if Network Monitor catches everything (Provider says I am using more...)

Ugh..I meant to "quote" you and accidently "thanked" you. So..thanks?
Anyways, I have PhoneUsage, which is useful for showing how the data is spread across your phone, and shows the top apps. However, I don't think it shows individual apps..only the top hogs.
3g watchdog PRO does monitor individual apps also. This is one of the extra features on the pro version

You can also try ZDBox.

Thanks for all the replies. Now to track down the source of my issues.

this might be useful. Although it's more on applications that are not closed properly or running on its own..
You can identify the problem by looking at your CPU usage.. if you have application showing and the cpu is high. probably, the problem lies on the program.

Hello. I am also looking for an app that monitors individual installed app network usage (3G or WiFi) in a real time sense (graphically or text based).
There are several utilities that monitor apps individually (3g Watchdog, Network Counter, NetworkTraffic Stats, OS Monitor) but nothing I've found offers a real time showing of individual apps the way that some apps show real time network usage of the OS.
Some show hourly tracking and some will refresh and show slight changes, but for real time tracking purposes (what the heck is consistently sending data *right now*), these are not as helpful.
Some background: for the past few days, my Vibrant would only get 3-4 hours of uptime, way down from the 8-12 I'm used to. I then noticed that my 3G connectivity was always on in both directions and I wanted to know exactly which app(s) was constantly transmitting. With the hourly monitoring, I had to wait, and I might have missed it. With the constant refreshing utility, the changes were so miniscule and not sorted by actively transmitting apps that it was counter productive to search that way.
Again, I'm not looking for one of the many utilities than do real time monitoring of the total network traffic, but real time network monitoring of the individual apps.
If anyone knows of any app that can do this, assistance would be really appreciated.
Thank you!
i have had this happen a few different days now. Something uses like a GB of data in a matter of an hour or so. I noticed this and installed both My Data Manager and Onavo to see what was using it (beyond the stock Data Usage). Onavo shows it Android OS + others (Similar to the stock Android OS report) and My data Manager shows it as Streaming Media.
Any thoughts on what this is. Its not things like Facebook or Google+ or Plume or Foursquare as those all report separately. I would love to know some options on the culprit or some other apps that might help figure it out.
I did read somewhere a Factor Reset can fix this but since its random seems like some app or something that i can resolve with out that action.
I checked the amount of data I was using today and it was using crazy amounts. I have auto-sync disabled and restricted background data on for Google Services, although I think that only affects mobile data. This has been going on for over a week unnoticed.
So I saw that and restarted my phone hoping it will fix it but it didn't, So I checked my battery to see what app is using the most battery and it was Mediaserver which was using 43% (although I didn't have a battery problem until yesterday).

(Sorry the forum won't let me post outside links so imgur will have to be copied and pasted)
Anyone else ever seen this before? I'm thinking of just reformatting the phone if there are no solutions but would rather not.

In my case, Its usually playstore that consumes the most insane data over wifi (auto updates). also location (GPS) services. you'll need to check those out.
As for your battery, consider using greenify to put a leash on rogue apps and processes.
consider reading these two articles to further help fix these two isses

My battery life has been draining super fast lately, I've tried a factory reset and everything but nothing seems to help. I recently installed the app 'Battery Doctor' and it shows me that there are, on average, 30+ apps running secretly. I click Optimize now and it will only work for a couple of minutes before they all start running again. I don't know why this is happening and I need help. If you need more information just let me know. Most battery power is being consumed by 'Google Services' and I've turned off location, wifi and mobile and it still drains super fast. I'm guessing the previous owner installed one of those bitcoin miners and it's stuck in the root but I have no idea how to get it off.

With root access you can disable apps / prevent background services (google system update service) from starting / cut off permissions (stay awake, wake up)
do not worry this is what happens in all the mobiles
these apps starts automatically because they are essential for your mobile
all you can do is keep clearing the ram regularly and you can also install Greenify ....
this app stops other apps from running in background
This app GREENIFY comes in two different types
one is for rooted users and one is for non-rooted users...........you can try to install for non rooted users if your mobile is not rooted
Hi
Been looking around for battery saving tips, pref tips that don't require heavy tinkering with services. Been using greenify, I'm not rooted (haven't really had a reason for it) Have limited mail/ sync. but I seem to be loosing on average 0.7 % per hour (mostly on standby). ( and mostly on on the infamous "misc") Checked GSam battery monitor, and it's telling me that it's android OS and android system eat the biggest chunks...
I'm suspecting that the nvidia controller related services are at least partly to blame, but it's a pain in the a** to keep "forgetting the controller" and killing the service. IT seems to be checking for the controller even when it's off/ out of range.
So I'm looking for any and all tips, specially tips for standby time
cheers lads
