[Q] Need Battery savings tips - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Been looking around for battery saving tips, pref tips that don't require heavy tinkering with services. Been using greenify, I'm not rooted (haven't really had a reason for it) Have limited mail/ sync. but I seem to be loosing on average 0.7 % per hour (mostly on standby). ( and mostly on on the infamous "misc") Checked GSam battery monitor, and it's telling me that it's android OS and android system eat the biggest chunks...
I'm suspecting that the nvidia controller related services are at least partly to blame, but it's a pain in the a** to keep "forgetting the controller" and killing the service. IT seems to be checking for the controller even when it's off/ out of range.
So I'm looking for any and all tips, specially tips for standby time
cheers lads

Actve Sync application

Hi there!!
A question concerning perfomance of active sync on HTC Touch Pro T7272. The problem is how to deactivate this application. It seems that it works automatically and I wonder whether this has any connection with the fact that the battery power is consumed very quickly. The application is on even when there is no computer or other device around. Anyone having any suggestions how to turn it off?
Thanks.
PS: The battery is consumed within 7 hours, is this normal?
Your battery consumption is around that of mine. 7 hours with some talking, texting and surfing and music. New batteries of course hold their charge for longer. Now that the Fuze is about a year old we see about a 25% drop in total talk time, at least I do.
If you are setup to use 'exchange' than activesync will be running a lot. Is this the case, do you have exchange running for google or your work email? In that case just reduce the frequency of email collection to increase battery life and reduce activesync from running.
Let me know...

[Q] [APP] AutomateIt Data/WiFi usage

Hello everyone,
I own a Nexus 4 and I have just gave a try to AutomateIt (FREE) app and everything went ok. I like it, it's really powerful and easy to use. So I decided I need AND/OR logic to link multiple triggers, but that requires the full version (PRO) so I installed the full version. The main problem with it is while in background/foreground, it sucks the whole internet in less the few hours. I don't know what it downloads but the network usage is about 100MB in less than a day, no matter if it is in background or foreground.
Is there anyone who found a reason/solution for a similar issue?
I know, the solution would be to restrict background data. Still, on WiFi will drain my battery and network usage keeps high itself.
Thanks.
I have the exact same problem! For now I disabled background data. Before that it drained battery big time.

Hi,
Are you sur that's a legal pro version ?
Put a firewall and do not allow AutomateIt to access the internet. It does not need internet access to work, unless you really want to download any of the "ready" solutions. I use Android Firewall: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jtschohl.androidfirewall

Substitute for Juice Defender

Hi guys,
I bought Juice Defender a while ago (2 years or so) and I was happy with it. It did everything I needed... However, when I updated to Lollipop, it suddenly stopped working properly.
From what I've read, they've stopped developing it. I've been looking for a replacement, but I couldn't do an in-depth search of the alternatives.
What I need:
- Dynamically activate 3g/wifi when the device's screen is on.
- Turn on 3g/wifi for brief periods for synchronization (update email, etc etc)
- Wifi management with location awareness (turning on at home, but disabling on the street, for example)
- Certain apps, when opened, automatically enable or disable connectivity
So far, I've tried:
- GreenPower
- DU Battery Saver
What've heard/read:
- Tasker
Ok, as for the apps I've tried, I think that GreenPower was suitable for me, however, the app didn't respond well enough (It failed to turn on wifi, prefering 3g and 3g seemed to be on all the time. DU Battery Saver I installed a couple of weeks ago and immediately uninstalled as it didn't seem to do anything I wanted.
Tasker is fine for what I want, however, I was looking for a more straightforward app. The 3€ price tag does not help, but it is reasonable. It can also do a lot more than just management of the device's resources, so it's an idea to consider...
I've searched Google and this forum and found nothing that could match juice defender, free or otherwise... Is there no suitable replacement (except for tasker, apparently)? I've considered writing my own, however, I'm short of time for such a task at the moment.
Thanks!
try LeanDroid
Hi,
Search LeanDroid in google play.
I am not with lollipop so not sure it works or not.

Granting BATTERY_STATS to more apps.

Hi fellow geeks,
I've got some annoying problems with software. Can you guess which phone? Yup, it's a Samsung. The S7 to be exact.
Now I'm not going to get too much in depth with my battery problems because from what I've seen there's not much people can help me with, but here's a summary (I'm on Nougat btw) :
I get no more than 3 hours of SOT and 10 hours total with data, and it's been getting worse. When i go on to see which app uses more it's Android System, with usually around 800 MAh consumed. And keep in mind i use my phone extensively so it's not that high because i don't use it and it uses the battery while it's sleeping. Idling is actually pretty good. The problem is i can't track what exactly uses my battery. Is it Knox? Is it ANT or whatever? That's because if a package is included in Android System it's the same battery usage for all of them. If you go see how much did Knox use versus how much did the camera use it shows the same percentage. So to solve that I've tried GSAM, but it displays the same amount of information. An app that seeme like it could help is System Monitor or whatever it was called. The problem with that is it can't access all the info due to restrictions placed in Nougat. So now comes my main question. GSAM had the same problem but there was a workaround without root, which included an ADB command to grant access to BATTERY_STATS. Today i found out it works for Wakelock Detector too. So i was wondering, can i grant access to needed information to other apps like System Monitor on my own, or does this ADB workaround need to be added on the app by the dev. (I'm quite the noob when it comes to this stuff). As for my terrible battery life i know smth like a factory reset would do the job but i really can't do it right now because of reasons.
Thanks for reading this load of noob words

Question How did you configure for the first time and how is the battery?

Hello good.
Seeing that there are very varied consumption of the battery (Some have very good and others have very bad even with little use) and looking in other forums, a doubt has arisen.
Those who say that the battery lasts, assure that the mobile, the initial configuration without restoring data, neither by google nor by samsung switch.
In my case, the initial configuration was restoring data by google and then by Samsung Switch. My battery is lousy.
In your case, how was it?
I never transfer data or apps using Smart Switch. I do fresh installs. Some apps I use their own in-app backup/restore.
My battery life has been great. But battery life will vary person to person, regardless of how they did setup. There are SO many factors that cause a variance in battery consumption. Display brightness, display mode, wifi strength/usage, bluetooth and connected devices, cell reception, apps running, apps installed, etc etc...
