Guru I am facing issue with Blank screen. Phone works but i cannot see anything in phone display. I can use qtabd to get screen shot by clicking refresh and see everything.
I flashed frx03 had same issue and then Revolution 2.1 both have same issue while paying angry bird screen goes blank and can not see anything on screen.
I have tried multiple re-boot

I think this falls under the "General" category more so than developement....

How do i increse Brightness of screen?
My screen is blank i can see it but when i click on I is working and opening program.
I don't know how Angry Birds caused this issue, but here's how you may be able to fix it.
1) Factory reset
2) Increase screen brightness in settings-display
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I have tried both factory reset and full brighness as well. may be not angry bird issue but that when it happend. i.e I was playing angry bird when screen went off for first time and never back again.

After updating to 3.2, I noticed that the touch screen has a ton of bugs. I used this program to check the inputs (I can't post links now due to forum restrictions):
Multitouch visible test
Basically if I scroll from far left to far right (Asus logo on the top left of my view), there is always a cutoff somewhere on the screen.
I never or hardly ever notice this problem when I'm in 3.1.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Or is it just 3.2 that has this and I should go back to 3.1?
Help is totally appreciated. Thanks!
Update:
Sent in the TF to Asus (to Ontario Canada) on August 9, 2011
Received it back from Asus on August 29, 2011 via UPS
Problem: they only reloaded the OS and did NOT test the touch screen so I have the exact SAME problem... Requesting RMA again
Can you grab a video of the issue?
Plonk it on youtube and then stick the url on here.
Cheers
Video is at youtube:
www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=ukdzYMKYtFE
Basically a portion of the screen does not respond to touch, and the classic turning screen on and off does not fully solve this problem.
had this problem before 3.2.
my screen have only small places..quarter of inch, random places.
noticed this only after rooting. and with some kernels more than others.
have you rooted?
No root. All stock since I am too lazy to do anything other than install apps, view video and manga.

Quality vid there, top notch.
Have you tried a hard reboot?
And a restore to factory default settings?
For some reason that sounds sarcastic there... but the video was taken by a Desire HD so it's not that good quality. It conveys the point (I hope).
Haven't tried hard reboot or factory default settings because that would mean I have to reinstall stuff and re-setup things like gmail.
Lol dude, i wasnt being sarcastic, for some reason i was expecting some half-assed effort.
Hard reset shouldnt wipe your data.
Hard Reset:
Unplug the power cord and shut the unit off and Press and Hold the power button and the "Down" volume button together for 6-10 seconds and let them both go. After a few seconds you should see a couple of shapes in the middle of the screen called "Wipe Data" and "Android". Wait a few more seconds until the term "Cold Boot" appears in the list near the top of the screens and just press and release the "Down" volume button again and let it reboot. If you own the dock be sure and do this with the dock connected.
Sorry man, I guess my sarcasm detector is pretty off today.
I tried the hard reset and the same problem persists. I will have to see how this can be fixed though (I see that many people have similar problems though).
Thanks for your help =)
might be worth giving asus a tinkle and see what they say.
Hi guys,
whenever I'm playing Fruit Ninja, or Subway Surfers for example, the touch "turns off" in a way... Let me explain: I open Fruit Ninja and select the banana mode for example. The game is about to start and the lights below the screen are on, but if I don't want to fail slicing the first fruits that show up because the screen doesn't detect the touch, I have to keep touching the screen, to keep the lights lit, otherwise the first few gestures that I make to cut fruit won't work... This also happens on subway surfers... If I'm running straight ahead for a second or two and not touching the screen because it is not needed, the lights below the screen will turn off and the next move that I try to make isn't detected... Is there any way I can fix this? :S

A few months back I changed my phones digitizer, maybe thats the problem...
Anyway, thanks for helping me
Well, even with the digitizer being the same, just flashing TheWhisp's CM10.1 fixed it

Hi all !!! Sorry for my English but I need your help
I commented what is happening with my phone N5 (which for good and evil is always stock without root or anything, with corresponding OTA updates.)
1- Yesterday afternoon at lunchtime while reading a book in playbooks, I notice that suddenly disappears one line and then appeared intermittently. I close the app and noticed the same thing happening on the screen menu. I shut down the cell and turn on again and I thought it must be an application be kidding. But still does.
2 Also yesterday I happened to change the security on the phone screen. After a while of normal operation, try to turn it on the screen with the button, nothing, the screen goes "black", with light and retrolight turned on but no picture no nothing .
Called the cell to see if it works or is turned off and the phone rings but the screen nothing. Try turning it off and on again by holding the on / off / lock button and the phone restarts, but the screen nothing. In one such attempt to do the above it is seen that managed to turn it off. And I get it on and do a normal boot, except that the picture of my screen is changed to the original. Change the lock screen which was previously using (slip). And it seemed that out or some conflict with the lock. In one of those again pressed the ON / OFF / lock as would normally and it starts all over again.
After I magically back to life, I want to make a full wipe as I think it should be an app that is doing some conflict or something. BUT ....
3I turn off the phone and then press the keys VOLUME UP / DOWN and ON / OFF is normally off, squeezed the first screen with the options but options RECOVERY / BOOTLOADER appears in red I choose RECOVERY give the ok with the key and .... andriod robot appears with the legend below that says something (I do not remember well) without or without controls options appears. So its seems thatI dont have recovery.
After that keep pressing the key ON / OFF and the phone turns off and / or reboot normally. All this I did it again to see if the error reappears and looks that I do not have recovery.
The failure of the screen is increasing. I dont know if they are separate problems or is it all the same problem.
Sorry if I was too long but I need the help of you.
UPDATE Now it seems that the screen died, since I do not achieve to turn it on as before, the light and the retrolight its ok. The phone receives calls and notifications but the screen stills black.
Thanks all.

sometimes things just "derp". itll happen more often if you dont reboot your phone often. also, your phone will be a little bit more responsive if it gets reboot once a day or two.
RMA or fastboot it back to stock, if the screen doesnt turn on afterwards then it looks like a hardware issue, open device and reconnect the display.

I think too that its a hardware issue. I already see on you tube problems like mine.
Thanks again!!
Hello! I have a stock Android Lollipop 5.0.1 Nexus 5 and for the past week or so I have been experiencing a weird issue.
The device randomly crashes. By "crashes" I mean the screen goes black, but the backlight is still on (it's a lighted black). I can push the power button and it will turn completely black (locked) and if I push it once more it turns lighted black again.
To get the device back into usable state I have to keep the power button pressed until the phone resets. Sometimes I keep it pushed for a full minute and nothing happens, sometimes 10 seconds are enough. Sometimes it will go through the "Google" logo and then stay in the lighted black state until I finally manage to reboot it again. Sometimes it crashes again right after it boots up.
It's weird because a lot of the times it's ok throughout the day and then when I go out in the evening, I take it out of the pocket and I see it crashed. Sometimes it crashes while I actually use it.
Last night it started doing something else: instead of lighted black, the screen is filled with static noise. It doesn't move or anything, it's a still image. Today, when a crash like that occurred, the screen glitched first (random lines on the screen, some parts got moved, really weird). I will get some photos if it happens again.
The problem is that I can't identify what's causing it. There is no particular app or action that I do / use that triggers this. It also doesn't seem to be movement-based, as it sometimes happens while it's sitting still on a table.
I updated to 5.0.1 about a day before this started happening, but I'm still not sure if it's software or hardware-based.
I tried a factory reset and booting into safe mode, none of these helped. I will only consider flashing a custom ROM as a final resort, because I'm not sure if it voids the warranty.
PS: the device is still under warranty, but I'm away for the holidays and will be until the beginning of the next year. And I'd like to have a usable device, especially while I'll be on the road.

I have none of your issues, try booting the device in safe mode and see if the problems still occure. It must be a or multiple downloaded apps that are causing your issues. Or try a data factory reset and restore/download your apps one by one amd try to identify the culpritt.

I said in the post that I tried both of those things. The crash occurred seconds after booting in safe mode and factory reset did not help either.

Flashing the 5.0.1 factory image in fastboot should fix your issues. Or try flashing system.img first, maybe thats enough.
Same issues with my Nexus 5

I am experiencing SAME exactly issues in my N5 with 5.01 and 5.1 . EXACTLY... you are not alone
Seems a software problem (third party app ?) , started in 5.01 and now is in 5.1 , of course system and boot images where flashed with fastboot, so no solution using
Stock, Rooted, using Nova Launcher - Smartwatch 2 - Google Cardboard - Chromecast and many apps.
But started ..if memory helps .. after installing Cardboard 3D apps.

As Russians often say. Sorry, I have bad English.)))) I also had such a problem. When I launch some games, the screen turns black. But at the same time, physical buttons work. I concluded that the problem is in the firmware. An idea came up. When the game starts, I immediately quickly press the power button twice, and the camera starts. Then I go in "recent applications" and select that game. Startup goes smoothly And a without black screen. I hope I understood your problem correctly. On a10beta1 then on the stable version it disappeared, now it has appeared again after the update.

You just have to know where to swipe but that's easy when you turning your screen around BEFORE starting the game.
