[Q] Best Kernel Out - HTC Inspire 4G

What is the best kernel out so far as in performance and battery life.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

That's not an easy question to answer as it all comes down to personal preference. I've tried a few so far and Lee's is suiting my needs so far.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I have the same questions and since it has been a while I figure more people have more input.
I keep hearing about TPC Stock ROM Optimized with Buzz OC.UV Kernel?
I am a total newb, but I really just want as few deviations from the stock as possible but unlocked, somewhat overclocked when I am working, extreme underclock on idle, and remove the bloatware.
What have you guys found?

Try Ingersoll.

On the AOSP side LordMod from the DHD section is awesome. That won't help you if you're using a Sense ROM, though.
CM7 Inspire 4G

Lordmod on cm7.

how do you know which one to use?
BFS vs. CFS

im a big fan of that guy di11igaf. Great work, good guy, and I hear he's pretty good lookin too.

hahaha. di11s work = EXCELLENT ROM, EXCELLENT KERNEL. Current uptime is 215 hours and counting. Clocked at 1036 on SetCPU.

If you notice, just about everyone gave you a different answer. There is no best rom. generally speaking, batt life is determined by clock speed and usage. plus each rom is a little unique. Just try out different roms and see what you think.

Yup... this is how I test ROMs. If they make it past 250 hours, then they are worthy. To this day, I have only had one ROM do this, and that was on my G1. It was the TMUS rom by amazinglarry311. Di11s ROM so far is going to be the second, by the looks of it.
I run Cache Cleaner NG once every other day, tho it's really not needed that often.
Still have over 211mb free when using Advanced Task Killer, and no lags.
Battery life is from about 8:30am til just after midnight. In this time frame, the lowest I've gone is 22%. Average of 225 texts a day, maybe 3 phone calls, music ALL day at work (not streaming), and check FB every 2 hours or so. Along with the occasional email here and there.

I can't imagine sending 225 text messages in one day.

[Q] Buying an Inspire when it's back in stock..

So I'll be coming from a S***sung Craptivate after it killed its own memory, resulting in not having enough room to load a back-up or a fresh ROM after a full wipe. (Phone is actually in two pieces, divided straight across the center) I had the phone flashed with a rooted deodexed and lagfixed ROM (Paragon RC6) and undervolted and stock clock speed (1ghz). I also had a different launcher, text based icons, widgetlocker, basically nothing was "stock" about it, but that was out of need, to fix the shutdown problem, the crappy GPS, the crappy sound, the crappy speed, the crappy lag.. etc etc..
I will be buying a Desire when it is back in stock locally, hopefully with tomorrow's shipment. But I have a few questions...
How much different is everything about modding this phone? I've read the guides and the stickies, and liking the Ingersol ROM (with just a battery notification mod, would like it to be white and turn red below 15% instead of the crazy colors it does.)
I only have 3 questions really... but one or more may become more. Please bare with me.
1. It looks like to root I'd have to DOWNGRADE.. what does this downgrade affect, or is an up-to-date version flashed after the root?
2. Can anybody tell me what HTC Sense is all about? Is it the launcher? It seems like a combination of apps already out there but from HTC (Flip to silence for example). What do I lose by going with a non-sense ROM? Also I take it using Desire based ROMs don't use Sense? But why would people want to use a ROM based off a different phone altogether?
3. Gingerbread ROMs (CM7 and the like) were buggier than all hell on the Captivate. Sure it looked good (but that's theming) and was supposed to be fast, but all over the Craptivate develpment forums was posts about widgets/apps not working, not refreshing, or force closing constantly with 2.3.3. A lot of the phones functionality was lost too, like the ability to take pictures, or use it for social networking (Facebook not working..). How do the 2.3.3 ROMs take to the Inspire?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanced!
You need to downgrade to get unknown sources back. HTC sense is basically a theme that designed for there phone if I'm not mistaking. The gingerbread themes here are very smooth and good. You will encounter bugs but that will always be fix from the developers

It only enables the exploit to get S-OFF (think recovery 2e from the Captivate, vs 3e which required signed update.zip's). Once done, you don't have to worry about it again. There are plenty of stock based ROM's like TPC or dilligaf for you to choose from if you so desire.

Sense is more than the launcher, it is a complete rework of the Android framework, like TouchWiz, but nowhere near as craptacular. It is actually useful. Any HTC sourced ROM will originally have Sense in it, but some HTC ROM's that say "no-sense" have a good chunk of that removed and are more like AOSP Android, but not quite all the way. Then there are other ROM's like CyanogenMod, which are based on actual Google AOSP code and have NO HTC software in them. It really is your choice which to use. I tend to flip between them. My personal favorites are CM7 and RCMixHD 5.9.4. I would flash them both to see what your preference is.

They work perfectly, with only the minorest of troubles that tend to be app specific, like the Gmail word wrap issue(which is not even a big deal at all). I haven't used a Froyo ROM in weeks.
And finally, welcome from another former Craptivate user! You will be MUCH happier with this phone.
Thanks!
In terms of stability, "snappiness" (at 1ghz clock speed), and resource consumption/management, is there a noticeable difference between Sense based, and AOSP based ROMs?
I'm also looking for decent battery life. I understand that screen on time and brightness, along with reception are the biggest consumers, but do one of the above based ROMs seem to do a better job of managing power consumption?
I am pretty weary of flashing a GB ROM just because of the numerous compatibility issues that I witnessed on the craptivate forum..
On the RCmix ROM, does it come overclocked by default? It says to use SetCPU to adjust it, so I'm assuming it runs at 1.0 ghz right off the flash? That ROM along with the theme with the white notification bar icons seems to be what I'll be flashing first. Thanks for the helpful information thus far!

The only thing about sense that really eats battery is the constant data usage of the HTC sense account, if you don't set up an account, your battery life should be rather good. As far as the gb roms they are all working very well, and you will find a small bug here and there, but all the major roms are very good daily drivers.
Most of the roms here have numorous tweaks for stability and snappiness, and you would probably be pleased with any of the major ones. I would say there is more difference between stock sense and tweaked sense than tweaked sense and no sense as far as performance goes. I ran stock for all of a few hours when I got this phone, and have been on a few roms with and without sense, and all of them have been very snappy and smooth.
Any of the major roms that support clock speed adjustments will use setcpu to adjust it, you can run at basically any speed setcpu lets you(within reason, and check the rom post for exceptions and recomendations) I currently run at a maximum of 1.5ghz on miui and my battery life is just as good as it was running 1.2ghz on android revolution.
And last but not least, don't be afraid of gingerbread here, most major bugs have been worked out and 90% of the problems posted about are due to the installer, not the rom.
Welcome aboard!

Just an add on note:
Gingerbread sense ROMs do not have overclocking right now. But really they are so butter smooth especially when compared to a captivate. RCMix5.9.3 has no compatibility issues I have found.

Yep they are GB. There is also Ultimate Droid, which I am using now. This is the best ROM I have used so far, but all of them have been rock solid as far as performance goes. I don't think you will find a bad ROM on here. You will recognize some of the devs from the captivate forums.
As for my battery life. I have been unplugged for just over 15hrs and I am down to 21%. That is with 2 push email accounts, 3 hours streaming rhapsody, 2 hours mp3 music, 30 mins of calls, and about 1 hour of browsing/gaming. It also helps that I am on wifi for 90% of the day.

And htc sense is they user interface...meaning its the over lay on top of android. Without the ui, it would be pure vanillia.sense pretty much makes the experience of using the layout of android a lot more customizable with exclusive sense Widgets, sync options, even that beautiful clock. Kinda like how ur cappy had the touchwiz interface, just a lot better.

Are there any benefits of going with the GB version of RCmix versus the Froyo version? Basically I don't feel comfortable flashing an OS not designed for the device so I'm leaning towards the Froyo based version of that ROM.

Yea, the UD ROM is really good. I've been on it for the past week or so and it is running like a champ. Making it really hard to switch to something else.

Ohh what for me

Sorry for all the new threads I'm starting, but as a new inspire user I have many, many questions. My question here is what Rom should I run? I'm looking for stock feel, but with extra features and fast performance.,decent battery life, sense, great support, popularity, and most of all, stable. I can't decide between Android revelution and rcmix or whatever. I kinna want to overclock but its not a deal braker. Also I'm looking for something with a better radio. Im an ex flashaholic who states up days on end flashing roms and really don't wanna go through the whole setup proccess 5 million times until I find a good one,i know it differed due to everything being based on opinions but if someone provides a setup (Rom+kernal+radio) for me,then maybe it will help me narrow it down. I don't have a problem browsing the thread, but I'm the type to have 50 gazillion questions behind my main question so a "quick search" usually consists of tons of searches which lead to confusion most of the time lol. Kernel: MDJ's v22
I think that CD 6.7 has MDJ's kernel by default, but don't hold me to it. I saw in the changelog that v6.8 (due out today) has the latest Lee Kernel. I used GTG's RIL flasher in Rom Manager to flash the RIL after installing the radio, but there's instructions at the link burton provided.
I have been using LeeDriod for awhile now jumping back and forth to other roms but I for some stupid reason like sense and the 3.0 lockscreen. from what I have been seeing in others change logs is that they are using the leedriod kernel of and on so he must be doing something right, as for Radios I stopped flashing the after the latest release of the stock AT&T radio, I really never noticed any difference with anyone's radio

Couldn't hurt. I have to admit my web pages are loading faster, transitions are smoother...apps seem to be loading quicker and overall I can tell a difference...but again I have to say its not a "I'm just blown away by this" difference.
Just wanted to add that after flashing this, the first boot took forever...so long in fact I thought I was gonna have to pull the battery and recover a recent backup.

Anyone using this with a Sense ROM?
I'm using with VU 2.35 sense 3.0 and it does wonders my score before at 1 ghz. Was 1800
Right after installing u.s.a.s still at 1 ghz jumped up to 2200 quadrent score.
After oc to 1.3 ghz my quadrent score was 2600
Runs very nice hard to tell difference as VU 2.35 runs so smooth but its an improvement

Went from 1991 to 2056. VU 2.35 runs very nice, but was having a small hesitation when turning on screen and this seems to have fixed that issue. Very nice work
So if I cook this in, my autofill does NOT work in messaging, but if I flash it after a rom install its fine
This is an awesome tweak my processor has never been stable over 1.3 now Im running 1.7 ghz and its crazy fast got my quadrent score up to 3000 running this fast

I came from a Droid X and can say that the Thunderbolt is a better phone. I have a few annoyances with it but mainly how it works or doesn't work with Ford Sync. The battery is depressing but I don't want the bulky extended battery. I have Juice Defender on it now and that has helped immensely through the day. I had 54% left on my battery after 8 hours at work with light usage. Before that I was at below 30% after 4 hours. I may still get an extended battery just for when I travel, but this works for me around town.
where would I find soab? Looked everywhere

Google it. You need to go on a BAMF forum. I dont think they post here.
oh, thats what I tried. Ill google it again
in short, what setup would provide best battery life based off experience amongst thunderbolt users?
Start with the SOAB with the stock kernel, so that you have a baseline then you can try Adr's test 3 or Imo's kernel to see if they make much a difference or not.
I don't think you will get a definitive answer without trying each out on your own phone and objectively seeing which one works best for you and your particular phone.
Good luck.
I agree. Ive been around android for three years and what works best for me does not for everyone else. I was looking for an experienced based answer. The bolt I bought already has soab on it.
Gotcha. I'm using SOAB with Adr's test 3 kernel. Works great for me because I can overclock now, but battery life is about the same as it was with the stock package SOAB kernel.
I've been getting great battery life on SoaB, starting with 1.02 and now on 1.03 since it was released and the kernel that comes with it. Prior to that I was using Eaton GTP, the Froyo build, and it gets phenomenal battery life. Can't wait for them to get their Gingerbread build with Sense 3.5.

They post all of their stuff on teambamf.net, and also tend to post on RootzWiki.

if you want insane battery life on soab flash the ziggy kernel beta one and set cpu low to the lowest setting andturn off gps and wifi and mobile antennas when not using them. i was getting 2% drop per hour this way. i went from 8 am to 8:30 pm with no charging and still had 72% battery life left also i overclocked to 1.2.
right now i am on miui wich is sick once they fix the mms it will be amazing. but i am using advanced task killer set to automatically kill apps when the screen turns off and green battery to do the same with the wifi and mobile anteannas.

Hi.
I think that if you want so good batterylife as possible, it all depends on what ROM and kernel you are using together.
In my opinion Matr1x and GlaDOS 2.9 are probably the best, and you should try one of them, or why not try one for a week, then try the other and then deside.

Deside should be with a c.... DECIDE!!
No, just kidding, but it is with a c. I think you're totally right! I prefer Matr1x, but GlaDOS belongs to one of the best kernels as well!

Thank you very much as I will try one up and see where it takes me too... Now with said kernels what settings are optimal for long lasting as I'm not all sure due to being slightly new to it

Can someone link me to both by chance?

Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium

I'm very surprised at this, given Pete's propensity to tweak the baked in kernel dramatically to improve both performance and battery life. I'm getting great results of both using his kernel.
Saying that, Steve Garon's plays very nicely with Pete's ROM. Either leave ondemand and deadline scheduler.
Matr1x is also very good. Same there, or use lazy for decent battery life.
As for what settings. It totally depends what you have going. If you got 25 different news widgets sucking data like there's no tomorrow, then yes, you;re going to see crappy battery life. Tell us what you;ve got going on and we'll try and help.
Well I just turned sync off most Google stuff aside from Gmail and twitter sync is off and other stuff I am not all sure what is and isn't off or on
I can almost sit back and watch my battery tick down ward
Is there like maybe an extended battery aside from the one in box can buy to assist n more juice
