Can HTC Desire's dialer be installed onto Nexus one? Without rooting?
I am deciding... which one to buy.. Nexus one or Desire? After a lot of thinking and reading, HTC's smart dialer is the only thing I will truly miss on nexus one. After using touchflo/sense on WM for years, I have grown tired of HTC's eyecandy...but their dialer is just too..hmmm...smart!
PS: okay.. may be Desire's black theme too.. can nexus one theme be changed to black? without rooting?
PPS: I don't have anything against rooting... I will do it soon..but I want to first get comfortable to the jargon of android world and figure out things.
This is about the third or fourth thread in this forum asking exactly the same thing. The answer is no. None of the HTC apps will run on stock Android; they depend on HTCs framework, which is proprietary. The only way to use the HTC apps is on an HTC ROM, like Desire. But you CAN start with a Desire ROM, and push all the stock apps to it, and morph the statusbar back to light-colored, so it feels aaaaaalllmost the same as stock, but with HTC apps. You don't have to use touchflo (Sense, as it's called on Android) just because you're using a Sense-based ROM. Make sense?
yup. thank you.
Is there any other smart dialer available? one that can be installed?

Try Dialer One from the market
My vote goes to Nubdialer from the market...
"Dialer One" better than HTC.

+1 it acts just like the HCT dialer but looks more stock eclair (better imo) and is more customizable.
+1 NubDialer ! Jk, Dialer One is pretty awesome too .
I have the EXACT same problem as the originator of this thread. It's just that I already have the Nexus and I really don't like all HTC eye-candies, as @arkavat is also saying. I just want the dialer which, in my opinion, is better than the Dialer One or NubDial that are available for Nexus.
But if this means installing an OS with all other HTC crap, I'd rather live with Dialer One.
I also used several htc phones, after using nexus, i am now using the dialer one, it's better than the htc dialer.

How is it better?
I can tell you how it may not be:
T9 filtering in HTC dialer works not only on the first word/letters but on any part of the name. Can Dialer one do this?
T9 filtering in HTC dialer works on both contacts and call history in the same box. Doesn't Dialer one use different tabs?
When I scroll down contacts in a T9 search, I see call history and immediately below the other contacts in alphabetical order. Aren't these on different screens in Dialer one?
HTC Dialer is fast, I seem to remember Dialer one being slower
I prefer the layout of HTC dialer, but that may just be me.
If you can find me one dialer that does all of what the HTC dialer can do, please PM me!
The lack thereof is my main reason for flashing Desire HD roms instead of CM / Nexus type of ROMS on my HD2!

Does anyone know if there has been a port done for the keyboard that the moment and mytouch use? I have searched the forum, but have not found that keyboard.
You mean swype 1.29. It has not been able to work on our heros yet. Zen is working on it though so I keep hope.

thats the stock android keyboard, and yes its available on the forums.
Looks like a modified stock keyboard.. kinda blue I like it but have not seen it around anywhere. I will see what I can dig up.
Ok cool.. I'll put my search-fu skills back to work today. At least now I know that its the stock android keyboard!
Ok.. So I just flashed darchstar's new [Rom] Darchdroid v2.6 and it is the default keyboard. Any AOSP fans have got to check out this Rom.. it's beautiful!!
Is it possible for anyone to create a landscape keyboard for the touch screen ?

I believe some of the custom ROMs already have one, at the very least. Poke through the dev forum and see if you can find what you're looking for.
There is no current ROM that has this, it is yet to be seen if this is possible, as it wasn't built in by Samsung. They thought that there was no good way to have a landscape screen keyboard on our phones. So it would take a large amount of integration and work. Anything's possible, but as of now, it doesn't exist and is very far away if anyone is working on it.
last time I tried gokeyboard it worked in landscape. but it kept trying to translate my english into chinese so I uninstalled... but try this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jb.gokeyboard&hl=en
not working for me , im gonna pm you to see if i can try to get it working
well, it used to work. you can see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15247397#post15247397 I was using it around the first of july. I tried it again today and I could not get it into landscape mode.
So, it USED to work, but apparently no longer does. Darn GO dev team for their frequent updates. (I think all go apps are some of the best btw, great/frequent updates)
Htc ime mod works in landscape I have the .apk but idk how do post it

Word, works and looks great thanks for posting. IF anyone is wondering, i used astro to install, then went to my settings, locale and text then deactivated my stock keyboard, and activated the new one.
Does the Galaxy S have the swype or regular virtual keyboard with landscape mode? If so, couldn't it work on the sidekick? If anyone would email me those keyboard apks, I'd be a guinea pig for that.
I still don't know how to do it I'm on the xda free app but ayoteddy posted it so great way on staying on top of things I habe the same one I believe
Edit: yes i have the same one just a diff color

So something weird is happening. I downloaded the HTC IME mod and put it in system/app. but now it keeps force closing on me over and over again. Any ideas?
Edit: Nm, I figured it out.
Edit 2: Oh, man... this keyboard is sweet.
Can someone gove me step by step directions because I tried and its not working out for me

Is this the official swype beta that is now working?
My official beta would not work, but a version posted elsewhere in these forums works fine...
Swype Beta worked for me
The swype beta worked for me on my MyTouch 4G (Glacier) I will see if it works on my One S today.
Official Swype beta installed just fine on my one s stock, unrooted.
Ps, we don't have Swype pre installed, that is an HTC keyboard with Swype features.

I installed the apk from the previous post and worked then later I got a message saying there was an official beta update.installed the official and works great.

Does anyone know how to get different colored themes for the new version of swype? I realize there is modded apk's but I read a review on The Verge and it is white. I doubt a tech review site would modify it for a review.
Here's the link to the article I'm talking about, I want that version!:

I never got a message, but have now installed the official beta as well.
About 5 minutes after installing, I got a random reboot on my phone which I have hardly ever had. Hope it is not related....
Downloaded this a few days ago, working great except one problem...
Sometimes when I press the space button it close the keyboard and goes to the home screen (yes I'm sure I wasn't accidentally pressing home button ). Mainly noticed in stock messaging app, and I always get the toast notification "Swype will automatically insert a space for you".
Anyone else?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
happens to me sometimes too...thought maybe the home key was a little sensitive or I have fat fingers
I have both the older swype and the one that was offered lately running on the One S.
What i find interesting is that the new Swype seems to be very different. The layout has changed, functions have been reordered, its faster, doesn't have its terrible lag anymore. Also now its offered under the company name of "Nuance" which i never saw before. It's a bit like a new keyboard.
Also, i am not sure it is as good as it used to be. I have ambivalent feelings for it at the moment.
But to answer to the main question of the thread: both versions run perfectly well on the One S and i had never had a reboot. I am on LeeDroid. I have had it on a rooted stock ROM (1.78 base) before.

Yes I agree. The latest was significant. It improves a lot of stuff.
I just want to be able to skin it again....:-(

You can still skin it...sort of. The problem is that unless you know their private key, you can't sign it properly. If you resign it, it will still install and function as a normal keyboard, minus the actual Swype feature. Sucks too because I've skinned it to match the stock keyboard beautifully. Oh well.
can anyone pm
Is there anyone that can PM me the link to get it? Or link to a drop box dl for the apk?

Swype CANNOT be redistributed through XDA as it is considered warez. Please sign up through the proper channels.

Hi everybody, i just bought a n5 and before n5 i use evo 3d and its keyboard awesome i think im very usual to it. can anybody port htc ime for nexus 5 pls thank you now (sorry for bad english)
This will be pretty difficult because as far as I know the HTC Keyboard relies on some Libaries from HTC Sense which is not open source. So you would have to port these Libs to Stock Android which is difficult without the source code. I had an Evo 3D too and I hated that Keyboard. Try some other Play Store Keyboards (I am using Swiftkey for example). There is a Sense 6 Rom in Development right now (NexSense), but it is a very early alpha with many functions not working.
I think there are some HTC like Keyboards in the playstore too.
EDIT: You can try this port if you want (don't know if it works): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844512
Yeah that's right. On the desire, the HTC ime required nothing but from around the time of the sensation, it became framework dependant. I missed the HTC ime so much on my S3, I tried every keyboard on play to find one close to it. Smart keyboard was the closest I found and used it on my n5 too up to about a week ago. The prediction isn't great and it wore me down after about a year but it's worth a try
