Why Does 2.3.3 Split Music Albums Into 3/4 Parts? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Real annoying. I try different custom roms to see if it is fixed but i think clearly it is ANOTHER BUG with 2.3.3? and the list goes on lol.

can you please elaborate on the music bug?
what do you mean by breaking the music into 4 chunks?

I thought I was clear enough. There are some albums that are in one folder than you have some that are in 3 or 4 folders instead of one
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

edit your MP3 tags
that will put them all into the same folder

Yeah you need to make sure both Album Artist and Artist are the same in your MP3 tag.. I had the same problem when updated to 2.3.3

I noted this as well. Seems to be a bug with media server. (N1 with CM7)

It splits my albums in two. The ID3Tags are all consistent and it only happens with a couple of albums, not all of them. I spent some considerable time analyzing my ID3Tags but I could not find anything wrong with them.

I have the same problem after updating to 2.3.3. I couldn't find anything wrong with the ID3 tags of the files. Things I've tried:
Cleared the music application data.
Copied the album name and artist name from one of the songs in that album to all the ID3 tags of the songs in that album.
Replaced all album art in the ID3 tags to a fresh image to all songs in that album.
Included CD numbers and track numbers on ID3 tags.
Removed composer credits on ID3 tags.
The albums are still split.

Same happened to me.
I tried importing to ipod via itunes but got the same problem.
So it seems the problem is indeed with the ID3 tags.
I tried checking the tags, fixing 1 by 1.
Nothing helped really.
Finally I just rewrote all the common ID3 tags with mp3tag (besides track name and number), and it was fixed.

Well, just found how to fix the bug.
I tried checking all the tags with iTag for android but everything was ok, so i downloaded mp3 tag for windows and noticed something interesting.
In one of those duplicated albums(Alesha Dixon - The Alesha Show) i noticed that everything whas the same except Album Artist, which was empty in the separated one and didn't appeared in iTag, i put the same artist and 1,2,3,.. for the tracks and got it fixed:
The thing is, in 2.3.2 it only reads Artist and Album but in 2.3.3 it also reads Album Artist, if it is empty or all the songs have the same artist everything is ok, but if there is something different then it will split that album

For those people on Android V2.3.3, does the Album Artist tag correctly, i.e. it won't take the album artist as being the artist of every track on the CD?
This happened on the X10 and the Galaxy S on Android V2.1 and it's quite frustrating for me.
For example.
A compilation mixed by "Artist A" (this is who I tag as the Album Artist) will cause a song made by "Artist B" to appear as "Artist A"'s song.
This issue looks like it could cause a world of hurt for my tagging method...or perhaps it will make the Album Artist appear correctly on the album when going through the library and the Artist itself appear correctly when going through the player which is something I've always wanted.

Dont know about doing it automatically but if you download the cover art off the internet and then rename and/or edit it to "folder.jpg", then place this image in the album's folder then the sense music player will use it as the cover art for all tracks in that album folder.
there is an update album art in the menu when looking at the music player. tends to work best when connected to wi-fi. has worked for all my albums.
Mike
my problem its i have lot of music alone, its not from album, its just one music from singer, and already try update in menu , even with wi-fi and dont work good!
it does give you the option to update song now playing - have you tried that?

U can do it on pc or instal this app on hd2 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687830&highlight=Mp3+tag+editor
Use Media Monkey 3 or Tidy Songs. There not free, but they have a trial for both products. I used Media Monkey cuz its cheap, $15 for Gold. You load your file of MP3, to the right click search Web for Info.. sure enough it finds all the albums to that artist. select right one if the label mp3 was unclear. now it fills in all the details and replaces mistyped. Sometime you even get a choice what quality art work you want to attach inside the tag. I had completed 1,500 songs. It cleaned up my album so an artist wasn't misspelled and in 4 separate folders in my sense player.
I use Mp3 tag, you can set all the album art and embedd it into the mp3 file, you can do albums at a time, but it does take a while. Once youve done it though, you will never have the problem again
MP3 tag its good option, but give little work to do. but already start!
thanks ★
aoakes With Media Monkey 3 and Tidy Songs update the music i have, or just its possible download from there with good info?
tidy songs i already try one time, but in few songs put wrong image and info.
thanks for help too!

THANKS to everybody!!!
if somebody have more solutions i apreciate!

Thought I would post some progress on the collaborative project between my BF (Stev-o) and myself on our Android Music Program!!!!!
*Also can be found on my Blog at DoesItPew.blogspot.com*
This program need some more rework and a UI....however most of the functions are working decently well. You can use Voice to text for searching or type it in (personally I like using my Swype keyboard). This will generate the individual songs and playlists instantly playable by your media player of choice! Please comment on stuff that just does not work or any suggestions, only been working on this for like 2 months between about 5-6 different projects and working full time (BF is a grad student).
Search for a song on your phone by any information:
This program allows you to find any song on your phone by any metadata about the song. Want to find every song made in 1974? Type in "1974" and you will see a list of all the songs sang in 1974 from your library! Can you only remember pat of a song name or artist name? Type it in and see the results when you hit search! It really is that easy and you won't spend all that time scrolling through menus to find that perfect song for that perfect moment.
Search by Humming or Singing:
This feature is enabled through the use of the NSF funded TuneBot project by Bryan Pardo at Northwestern University. TuneBot is a crowdsourced Sound-Hound alternative that is Free, Open, and Ever-Ex panding. You can contribute to the Database by playing KaraokeCallout on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and play a game too. It is free and highly reccomended. Plus the more you play, the better this program becomes and the bigger the database of songs is! You will see a VU meter pop-up when you try to hum, just make sure it does not go all red when singing as that means that you have had some clipping. This will show you the best matches from your phone music as well as best overall online results if you do not happen to have the song on your device (so that you can get it online - ie Youtube).
Search by Lyrics:
Can't remember the name of that song, but you can remember the refrain? Man, who knew that "Teenage Wasteland" was really "Baba O'Riley" ? The lyric search is provided by Leo's Lyrics and is Super Fast! Just like the searching for Metadata feature, you can type or speak your query. This will return the best matches from your Music on your device as well as the best matches online like the Humming feature.
Here is the Program: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yqg8n5
Sideload it
Background and Future Work:
Basically this project stemmed out of my boyfriend not having bluetooth in his car like I do in mine. He wanted to have voice control instead of fudging with buttons and scrolling through lists every time he wanted to listen to something. Plus, he is pretty mood-music kind of guy and never bothers to put together a playlist. In the future we hope to have voice commands added so that you can be in your car and say "Mix Country and Rap" and to will start playing all of your Country and Rap music for example. Eventally, would be very cool to have voice command dialing of phone numbers too.
Any suggestions, comments and such would be appreciated. I know it is rough and we are working on it y'all!
*EDIT NEW APK WITH ADDITIONAL FEATURES!!!!!!!*
Sounds great, but does Not install ob 2.3 on hd2 :/
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
EDIT:could install but forces closes when trying Tor Start :/
Yeah, I have only tested on 2.1 and 2.2 since we have Evo's.
This is VERY good to know - wonder why it does not install on 2.3? I will work on the code more.
Really like the idea
I'll try to install it on my desire z in a bit (also with 2.3).
installed fine on cm7 nightly 23 but f/c's a lot
Updated code. you will find that now the single song selection feature in near instantanious and works great on gingerbread. No weird closing stuff!

[Q][SOLVED] Album Art Help

Has anyone got heir album art to work properly? The album art that I have with my files are embedded directly in the id3 tag of my files, but the phone is not displaying it at all.
I CAN however place the songs in their own folder along with the image file for the album art, and it picks it up just fine. I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS.
I have a folder titles MUSIC on my sd card, and all my MP3's are just dropped right in that folder. this is how I would like to keep it,so I don't have 300 child folders.
what am I doing wrong? How do I fix this.
Using the stock player, and album art was embedded with Windows Media Player. TagScanner also picks it up as embedded.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: This has been solved with 2 different methods. Both work great!
Method 1, is pretty simple... Find the album art for your respective album, and rename the picture file to "albumart.jpg" ...The player picks it up fine. This was suggested already, and does in fact work, but not what I was looking for.
Method 2, this is what I wanted! I used a program called "TagScanner" ...This is freeware, just Google it. With this program, I was able to embed the album art right into each MP3. This way, I don't have lots of folders inside of folders.

Did that. Doesn't work. It picks up the MUSIC folder as 1 album. Just as all the other Market apps for this process. That's why I went to the PC to load the album art.
If you happen to have a song that DOES pick up the album art on the Phone, would you be willing to email it to me? [email protected] ...That way I can look at how the file and the art are encoded and duplicate this?

Bah sorry about that. All my files were imported in folders by album from iTunes using Easy Phone Tunes so that's probably why Album Art Grabber worked perfectly for me.

If I ABSOLUTELY have to do it this way, per folder, then I will. But I would really love to avoid this if at all possible.
Cover Art Downloader might work better. Works good for me.

Which music player are you using?

I've been trying different ones out. So far I can't see why they'd be preferred to the stock player or Google Music Beta (same thing).
I use poweramp for my own personal music collection...
I use Doubletwist. Google Music is too laggy for me, and Winamp messes up my album lists (multiple artists in some of my albums causes the album to show up multiple times).
I don't stream or sync music or any of that jazz so I usually just download the AOSP music player in the market plus cover art downloader to find any stray album art... It plays music, shuffles my songs, layout's simple and you can't go wrong with voodoo sound I usually just drop music on my sd card (about 4gb worth now) to listen to
ive tried them all and i think this one is the best "playerpro music player"
I just use the stock Google Music Player. I'll admit it sucks but I'm not going to pay for PowerAMP, got the demo and wasn't impressed. That should say something considering I have 16gb of music on my phone and use my Charge to listen to it every day
I use PlayerPro for listening to music on my Droid Charge. I don't use the stock music player since it is unable to remember what was last playing after the phone is rebooted (or the program fully exits and restarts). That means it won't remember what song was playing in a particular playlist, and won't even remember what playlist it was in. That is a big fail in my book.
When I listen to music on my phone, I use the TW music player. It has lock screen controls (which other have as well), but it also lets me control it from the notification area, so I don't have to leave whatever app I'm in just to change the track or pause it.
Pandora
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyFroyo 1.9.1
Default Sammysung player. I rarely listen to music on my phone.
Subsonic or TW Music Player. Google Music Player is my backup if for some reason Subsonic isn't working for me.
UberMusic because it is pretty.

[Q] Strange MP3 Metadata Transfer Problems

Hi folks, I come today with a bug that has been plaguing me for the past few months. I've tried my hand at troubleshooting this myself, but it's just leaving me scratching my head.
Basically I'm experiencing a very strange issue with transferring mp3's to my Nexus 5. It's persistent, too. It happens to about maybe 7% of my library. I have everything tagged as I desire in iTunes (I know, I know... still a holdout from my iPhone days). All the file names correct, song orders good, album artwork displayed, all as I want them to be. I use doubleTwist's Windows app to help me sync my music to my phone - it's integration with iTunes has been very helpful in getting my music over.
The problem is that, while everything on my own computer looks good, when transferred, about 7% of my music ends up with strange, incorrect metadata. That means the artist is often ending up as ??????, songs with Japanese characters are losing their titles sometimes to ???'s and sometimes to random keyboard mashings. The error is not consistent. Sometimes the albums are transferred with everything but their album artwork. Sometimes they're missing their artwork and artist. Sometimes the songs lose their names.
Often (though not always), when the error occurs the songs end up on my Nexus with *old* metadata. In other words, it ends up being transferred with metadata it previously had (usually artist and album name) and sometimes it takes what I currently have it tagged as. Always the songs affected end up without album artwork.
It's happened on every ROM tested, and no matter how many times I try deleting and resyncing my library via different methods, it doesn't work. I won't list out every troubleshooting method I've tried (there have been a lot), but I've tried transferring my music manually to witness it in action. Here's an example of that:

This is the same mp3 transferred by a simple drag-and-drop operation. The transfer stripped it of its artist name, album title, song title, and album artwork.
I thought it might be a bug with unicode transferring, but even renaming the file, title, etc. to use exclusively ASCII did not work. I've tried retagging them in different programs and while it transferred with different information, it still failed to transfer these songs with the proper metadata.
TL;DR... Transferring mp3s onto my Nexus 5 leads to about a 7% chance of it being stripped of its correct metadata and replaced with either old or incorrect metadata. Have tried numerous tests to try to determine cause, but cannot find any consistencies. At my wits end for the problem.
EDIT: I also just tested it on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 that I got yesterday and, to make matters more confusing, the problem does not exist there. So the problem is exclusive to the Nexus 5...
