[Q] Call Recording Apps vs. ROM updates - General Questions and Answers

Hello! Last week, I flashed my first ROM and installed Twingy. So far I love it, but unfortunately the call recording operation doesn't seem to work (which is one of the primary reasons I chose that ROM). After the phone call I simply get a "Failed Recording" message and no recorded message. So, after reading up a bit I tried to installed a ROM update that would allow for recording. That didn't seem to fix anything. So I tried just using an app, such as AllCallRecorder, and so far that seems to work fine recording phone calls.
My question is: Is there a benefit I'm not seeing to a ROM update that allows for recording phone calls as opposed to simply using an app?
The only benefit I can think of is the convenience of having it built-in to the OS, but I just thought I'd see if anyone has any other thoughts or comments. Thanks!

[Q]Please Help! Microphone not working on incoming calls..

Hello, i need some serious help over here
What's the problem:
I own a galaxy 3 since June, a week ago i started noticing the internal mic wasn't working on some incoming calls.
Details:
First of all the problem began for no apparent reason (the phone works fine otherwise and no major updates / new apps were installed)
This started happening on the official froyo ROM which was an excuse for me to flash the Kyrillos 9.4 ROM (wiped all data / formatted sd card in the process). The problem still occurs on Kyrillos 9.4 ROM suggesting that this is not a ROM issue
I thought it was a hardware issue but the caller can hear me perfectly if i connect the headset or use the speaker Also the internal mic works fine on some incoming calls and ALL outgoing ones!
Upon further investigation i came upon 2 threads on other forums (unfortunately i can't post the urls as i am a new user, if needed pm me or search google for "Microphone not working on incoming calls") which point out that the same problem incurs on HTCs and XPERIAs. Also it happens on replacement phones (original unit shipped back after this problem), on different providers, on official and custom ROMs, on clean phones (only the stock apps installed).
This seems to happen when the phone is idle for a set period of time (unconfirmed). Fast Reboot app / manual reboot / removing battery don't fix this, however making an outgoing call seems to enable the internal mic temporarily (even if the outgoing call never connects)
When this happens apart from the mic not working on incoming calls it becomes also unresponsive for other apps (Tape-a-Talk, Skype, Soundhound etc.)
Conclusion:
It seems to me that there is bug in froyo that keeps the incoming call code from activating the microphone or perhaps there is a conflict of sorts that keeps the microphone blocked. It is highly unprobable i think that the microphone would randomly start to fail on different android phones in the exact same way, so this shouldn't be a hardware issue.
Question:
Does anyone know/guess or can produce a possible solution for this? If not, could you please suggest further testing steps to help reproduce 100% this problem in an attempt to solve it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a pain in the neck for me (and others i guess?!)
PS: Excuse the thread form, i 'm really bored of writing / reading long posts
PS 2: This is my first post, hello xda community!

I have the same problem. I flashed the phone from android 2.1 TO cyanogen 2.3 and from it TO ice cream. I had this problem even to cyanogen and only in incoming call, never in other situation.
Googling I found same information but no solution. Anyone here knows something?
Anyway I found a stupid solution....try switching to 2g( I know that it's not a solution but...). It works for me!
that's ridiculous! how can network state have anything to do with the microphone of the device? can this be related to service providers maybe a more techish member could tell us.
anyway i am on 2g already as i don't have a usim card and this happens even if data network mode is deactivated. glad you found a way out but is it really a solution? i mean you have to ditch 3g for the phone to be actually a phone...
Since we seem to be the only ones among so many to be having this problem i am seriously thinking of taking back the phone for a replacement and hope for the best...
just an update, i lost functionallity of the microphone completely earlier today. That is with outgoing / incoming calls and any app i can think of, so i thought i 'd try changing the network data setting to 3g only since i was already on 2g...
WOW!!! that had an instant effect,it works seamlessly now, didn't even have to reboot.fingers crossed it will last.
that is one nasty and very strange bug. Please any of the developers could you take a closer look at this?
much appreciated

[Q] Microphone stopped working (stock rom / not rooted)

Hi xda,
So everything is in the title. Not long ago the microphone on my TF300T just stopped working. I recorded videos without problem, and one month later, without me installing anything, it just stopped recording anything, no matter the app. I tried Skype, the camera, several recording apps... nothing.
Tried a cold boot and a data wipe, same thing.
Z-device test detects the microphone, but it doesn't record anything. When I record a video or try to use a microphone app, I get a loud pop and just noise. I've messed a bit with the gain and I obtain nothing. Of course ASUS support is useless. I have seen similar problems all around the web but no one seemed to have an explaination or a solution, all threads were just left hanging...
Stock rom, not rooted. Does anyone have an idea about the problem ? Is the microphone busted ? Would it pop like that it that was the case ?

Best App to Record Calls?

Hi, I've tried using many apps but they don't seem to be good at recording the person on the other end of the line.
The app I'm currently using is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.globaleffect.callrecord&hl=en
In the recordings I can only hear my self speaking perfectly, not the person on the other line.
Are there any apps that record both people perfectly?

I use Call Recorder by Skvortsov. It works great for me, but your phone has to be rooted. I have tried several others but this the only one that worked. If your phone isn't rooted then there aren't any apps that work with the nexus5. Hope this helps.
I'm on lollipop. If I root it will it cause me issues receiving updates in the future?

I've been using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder&hl=en It doesn't feature any particularly elegant design, but it has worked reliably for me every time. I don't think there's any recorder that will be "good" at recording the party at the other end -- but this does catch them and, if you pump the volume a bit, they're clear enough. This one is also free.
Best call recorder
The call recorder I spoke about in an earlier thread does great at recording both sides of the conversation. There are several settings for it. The phone can either record all conversations or you can have it ask you after every call whether you want to save or delete. It is really an excellent app. I've been using call recorder apps for my last two android phones. My last one was a Note 1. The problem is Google did something to Kit Kat that doesn't allow these apps to work properly without rooting the phone. I wish they would correct this problem. The main reason I root my phone is for the call recorder. I need it for business.
You will still get updates if you root the phone, but you will lose root on major updates. There are ways not to lose root on the lesser updates like small fixes to problems in the software. But you will lose it on the major updates. I haven't updated for KitKat to Lollipop yet because a some of the apps I use a lot don't seem to be working with the update. I'll wait until it gets fixed.

Problems with call recording on XT1032!

Hi, I'll try to keep this as simple as I can, I'm having problems with calls reconding on my device.
Before updating to Android MM and N I was able to record every call made and received on my device on any ROM I flashed that was runing Android 5.1.1 or earlier.
After updating Marshmellow and Nougat I can still record my calls but there's a problem, the phone only records my voice over the mic and nothing else! It doesn't record whatever people is saying to me unless I turn on the loudspeaker. That wasn't happening on the previous versions of Android, I was even able to record with my earbuds's microphone, so I'd like to know if there's a workarround this issue.
Am I the only one with this problem? Some help would be very much apreciated.
Thank you!

Call Recording

Hi,
I am using Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android Oreo with the latest Boldbeast recorder. When I record a call, it is only recording my voice and not the voice of the person on the line. Why is that so? It used to work great prior to the update of the phone and the app. So, I am not able to figure out what is causing this. What should I do?
Thanks
Bump....
A lot of the call recorders stopped working with Oreo. Due to some google security feature. I've heard that ACR still works on Oreo, and also a dutch named gespreksopname.
does the native call record still work with oreo for those with rooted samsung phones?
The call record button in the dialer in an Oreo ROM on my S7. So that works.
I also use Boldbeast recorder. It has like a dozen different methods of recording to choose from, and another half dozen more if you have root. They keep their app pretty up to date. I'd be surprised if none of those different choices worked. When I first tried it, it took a couple tries to find a good method. I haven't yet tried it in Oreo though.
